Great for family getaway!

Excellent location, walking distance to the center of Callicoon. Back deck and surroundings were lovely. House was clean. Layout is quirky, but it worked for our large family in town for a wedding. We would come back again.

The Gables house was all we expected for my family of 10 to spend the holidays. Everyone from 1 - 65 years old enjoyed the spaces within the house. There's even a room with children books and toys which kept the kids busy. Enough bathrooms and showers for all. The house was roomy and clean. I loved the wooded area behind the house and its proximity to restaurants and other local happenings in the Callicoon NY area. Red Cottage was very timely in responding to my text and voice messages. I would consider coming back if my family needed a big house like The Gables again. I have 2 complaints I shared with Red Cottage & Airbnb. The house was listed for one price when I reserved it. My reservation was denied until they adjusted the price and re-posted it for almost $500 higher. I had no choice but to accept it since there was nothing else available in the area. It snowed the day before we arrived. We had to shovel the big driveway though RC said someone was on their way. No one ever came.

What a wonderful find! The house has oldschool charm but designed in a tasteful modern way and the land is full of entertainment for kids and adults alike. The playground, the campfire and the creak made the stay really fun. And the neighborhood deer provided entertainment for everyone. The kitchen is small but very well equipped and unlike most airbnbs, there were a lot of spices and condiments to make life easier. It is in such a great location - you can walk to multiple restaurants in Callicoon and drive to nature trails. Unfortunately I have to voice the same con that other already did - there were no curtains or blinds which made is slightly weird (bathroom windows) and annoying at night (street lights). Sounds also carries a lot in the house and so if you're a group going to bed at different times, you'll hear a lot of walking and talking. But, overall for the price it was an absolute hit and I would recommend it to anyone.

The house is charming and cozy - we had a great time as a group of 3 families! Plenty of bedrooms and beds, great shared space, lovely backyard and a stream.

The house and surrounding area was beautiful. It was a very cozy home and provided the perfect amount of space for our large family and kids to run around. Everyone had their own room and the common area was nice when we all wanted to gather. The backyard was great for the kids to explore and for us to take in the scenery. The beds were so comfortable and the toiletries and shower was amazing. The only con I would say is the nearest grocery store for big shopping was about 30 min away in PA and there weren’t any curtains on the windows so the lack of privacy when using the restrooms or showers was a little uncomfortable. In regards to our specific stay, the heat had malfunctioned before we headed up there but the management company supplied electric heaters and blankets and the fireplace actually kept the home pretty warm. There were a couple times the power went out due to the breaker but that might just be because it’s an old house. Overall it was a great experience.

We had a wonderful weekend here. Peaceful and beautiful scenery, conveniently located to nearby attractions. Very spacious home with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone. Layout worked out well for several couples and a few young children. Our group has stayed at several homes in the Catskills and Finger Lakes, and this home was a universal favorite! Host was very responsive and accommodating. Home was clean and had all necessary amenities. Would definitely stay again/recommend. Would consider bringing portable baby gates if we stay again (fortunately our little one is still slow enough to keep an eye on 😂).

My family and I stayed for the weekend to attend a wedding in the area. The home was beautiful, spacious, and perfect to accommodate 9 of us. We travelled with 2 children and an infant, and the home was very kid friendly, which was perfect. The one thing that we felt was missing from this home were curtains/blinds on the windows. We appreciated the natural lighting during the day, but felt that there was no privacy, and too bright early morning when we tried to sleep in. Other than that, we had a great stay.

This house is a delight Our family stayed here for a family wedding and it was a joy. It was clean with the light from many windows. The great number of bedrooms allowed for a space for everyone, the teens were upstairs and the adults elsewhere. there is a delightful porch and I love the little swing, and a large deck with different levels. The kids enjoyed the firepit and smore's. You can hear the stream flowing all night and it is a very restful and calming sound. You can even see a little waterfall and deer. The house is close to Callicoon, a very quaint and yet lively town with enough places to eat and shop and roam around. It is within easy walking distance. Overall the house affords a lovely vacation. And the owners are extremely helpful and pleasnt and respond immediately. I highly recommend a stay at the Gables.

We really enjoyed our stay. We were a large group with toddlers, and the space felt safe and comfortable for families. The home was simple, spacious, and kept beautifully warm. We also loved the clean, modern décor. A wonderful retreat—we’d happily return. We’d also love to visit in the summer months. The town is an easy walk to restaurants like Black Walnut, coffee shops, breweries, and a fun tapas & wine bar that we really enjoyed. We visited the Seminary Hill which was just a 4min drive and Villa Roma. Really great location and home, I recommend for group trips.

Overall, this is a charming and spacious home with plenty of room for our group. The fireplace was a highlight, WiFi was strong, and the tucked-away TVs helped us disconnect. We acknowledge that this might not be great for all guests but we took the opportunity to play games; thankfully we brought them. However, I’d rate it 4/5 due to a few issues. The unpaved, icy paths made entering dangerous, especially for children, and no salt was provided despite being advertised. The lower-level toilet didn’t flush properly, possibly needing septic maintenance, and there was mold in the third-floor shower. The propane tank for the grill ran out on the first day. While we understand that grilling in February is uncommon, we did use it and ended up replacing the tank ourselves. Additionally, the hot water turned off multiple times during our stay, which was inconvenient. Despite these concerns, the home has great potential and could be even better with some maintenance.

The space was very nice and well stocked for staying with a group. The location was easy to get to and served as a jumping point to a few other areas while still having some nice shops and food options in town to enjoy as well. Would definitely look to stay again.

We stayed here with a group of friends and had a wonderful time. The house is spacious, charming, well designed, and very well appointed. It’s prepared with every detail we needed, especially in the kitchen, which was great because we cooked most days. Very clean, with great quality sheets and towels (albeit soft mattresses). Be aware that not every bedroom has an AC unit if travelling during a heatwave. Houses in this area traditionally don’t need AC, but sadly they are becoming more and more needed. I would highly recommend this place and would surely like to come back.

Great place to stay for a wedding in Callicoon!

We booked this for friends for our wedding nearby and they all loved the house! They had a great stay and especially loved the gorgeous backyard!

7 couples from across the Midwest came to Callicoon for a wedding. this house, a 7 bedroom, served our needs well. Due to weather, we were unable to use the outdoor amenities. inside was virtually everything we needed. I would suggest coffee cups be added to dishes....think there was only one. All seemed to have a good time and make positive comments about the house. would rent again if occasion arose.

The perfect place for my group of 16 girlfriends! Everything was super clean and there was more than enough space for everyone. The coziest stay, couldn’t recommend enough. Wish more Airbnbs were just as nice as Red Cottage!

Had a great reunion at the cottage. Spacious, beautifully decorated and everything we needed. The hosts were very responsive and described the place perfectly. Hope to come back!

Well equipped. When we mentioned a lack of tea towels they were delivered same day. Very well kept and good quality furnishings. Lovely place that met our needs as an extended family group.

We had a great stay at The Gables house in Callicoon. The house was clean and organized, some parts of the house were even nicer than the photos, the beds were comfy, and the house clean and spacious. The kitchen may be the most well-stocked we have seen in terms of lots of pots/pans, knives that actually cut, large bowls, dishes, gadgets, cookies utensils, etc. Red Cottage was very responsive and informative. Do note the listing says there is A/C in every bedroom, but there were a few rooms without a window unit. However there were *tons* of fans throughout the house that really help. It was also great to be able to walk into town.

We had a good time overall and we would stay there again. The house is huge with large bedrooms and a bathroom on each floor. It has character, but there were a few negative things that I have to get off my chest: - no curtains or blinds in the whole place. it makes you feel exposed. There are houses nearby. - no dressers in most bedrooms and not enough hooks on walls in bathrooms or entryways or bedrooms to hang anything. - electric tea pot had green mineral deposits inside. In general, the kitchen was actually in good shape and they had some nice things there, but some of the stuff felt like it hadn't been cleaned in a bit. - no bathroom or bedroom locks. We couldn't even get the door of the bathroom on the first floor to close at all, but none of the other bedrooms or bathrooms had locks. no privacy. - no firewood on porch as promised. - House felt a little lifeless. Nothing on the walls in the main dining and hangout area. Decor in rest of house felt random or bland.

This was our second time staying at the Gables, and it was just as great as we remembered it! Spacious and clean home nestled in beautiful and private surroundings. Several cool attractions and eateries nearby and lots of wildlife to admire. Hope to be back again!
