HOT TUB COMING JUNE 15th!

Stonehaven Catskills, just 2 hrs from NYC, is a charming 3 bed, 2 bath, 2 powder room home with access to the Delaware River and Narrow Falls Brook.

About this property

You can see the Delaware River from almost everywhere at Stonehaven—from the 14-foot window in the great room to the lawn, sauna and cedar hot tub. Built of local bluestone, the house sits on a private stretch of riverfront with its own beach and wooded grounds. On cold nights, light the stone fireplace, put on a record or play the Steinway. In warmer weather, try the River Ritual: sauna, cold spring-water shower, hot tub, then fire pit at sunset.

Stonehaven Catskills is a breathtaking property with a rare English Tudor-style design presenting unparalleled views of the Delaware River and the forests of the Western Catskills and Pocono Mountains. Built in the 1930s using local bluestone, the property boasts 1000 feet of river frontage.

The River Ritual
The River Ritual is our take on a hot-cold circuit. Start in the outdoor sauna. Cool down under the cold spring-water shower, or just stand outside in the fresh air for a few minutes. Then get into the cedar hot tub and look out over the river. Do it two or three times and end up at the fire pit.

The House
Stonehaven is built from local bluestone and feels more like a European country house than a cabin. Most of the time is spent in the great room, with its vaulted ceiling, huge stone fireplace and a 14-foot window looking out at the river and the hills on the Pennsylvania side. There's a wall of books/boardgames, a Steinway baby grand, an acoustic guitar and a vinyl record collection that guests often mention in their reviews.

The kitchen has hand-painted tiles, a butcher-block island, and it's stocked for real cooking and baking. The dining table sits by the windows, so you can watch the valley over dinner.

Bedrooms
Primary suite: king bed, French doors to the terrace, and a bath shared with the adjoining guest bedroom
Guest bedroom: two queen beds, the shared bath, and a home office with a desk, monitor and printer
Guest bedroom: two queen beds and its own bathroom with a walk-in shower
There are two full bathrooms and two powder rooms, one of them off the terrace.

The Grounds & River Beach
It's a short walk down the hill to the river beach, a wide, flat stretch of shore on the Upper Delaware, which is part of the National Park system. Swim, fish, put in a kayak, or just bring a book down to the water. Life jackets are at the house. The rest of the property is woods, good for a morning walk. A family of bald eagles lives in the trees next door, so keep an eye out. Up by the house, the bluestone terrace has an outdoor sofa, a dining table, lounge chairs and a grill. The gazebo and the fire pit both face the river.

Every Season
Summer is for swimming, kayaking, fishing and eating outside. In the fall the whole valley turns color. Winter is when the sauna and hot tub are at their best, and it's a good time to spot eagles over the river. In spring, trout season opens on the Upper Delaware and things are quiet before the summer rush.

Comfort & Connectivity
Fast fiber internet and a home office with a monitor and printer
Whole-house generator
New central air and heat pump
Level 2 EV charger (first day free, then $30 per stay)
Sonos sound system
A set of dumbbells and several yoga mats are on hand

The area

Stonehaven is quiet and private, but good food, shopping, the arts, and more outdoor activities are all within a short drive.

Narrowsburg (10 minutes). A small river town with food that holds its own against the city: The Heron, La Cigogne, Bridge & Main, Big Eddy Brewing, and coffee at Tusten Cup or Two Queens. Main Street is easy to spend an afternoon on, with Maison Bergogne, One Grand Books, Project Weekend, Madame Fortuna, Wise Peony, River Gallery and Moon River Interiors. The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the region’s arts hub, has exhibits, concerts, films and events all year.

Barryville and Eldred (10 minutes). Fewer visitors find their way here, and it’s a gem. We love the summer farmers market, art and ceramics classes at Sullivan Public, records at River Town Sound, Cottage Wines & Spirits, dinner at the Eldred Preserve, and Tokyo Drift, a new Japanese restaurant.

On the river and trails. Rent a canoe or kayak from Lander’s River Trips and paddle a longer stretch of the Delaware, or hike the Tusten Mountain trail. The river is known for its fly fishing, and in winter you can often spot bald eagles over the water.
Day trips. Bethel Woods (25 minutes) hosts summer concerts on the site of the original Woodstock festival, plus a museum and seasonal events the rest of the year. Callicoon (25 minutes) is another great town with shops and restaurants. Woodloch in Pennsylvania (25 minutes) has a well-known spa and golf course. In winter, Ski Big Bear is 7.5 miles away and Elk Mountain is about an hour.

For longer stays. Narrowsburg also has a supermarket, the gourmet shop Narrowsburg Proper, the Chi Hive gym, The Highlands Salon and a FedEx, so a few weeks of remote work here is easy.

Drive times: Narrowsburg 10 min · Barryville/Eldred 10 min · Bethel Woods 25 min · Ski Big Bear 7.5 miles · Port Jervis bus and train 30 min

Stonehaven is about two hours from New York City by car. You'll want a car once you're here, and all-wheel drive helps after a big snow. Coming by bus or train? The Short Line bus and NJ Transit both stop in Port Jervis, about 30 minutes away.

Notes from your host

The home is equipped with a Level 2 Tesla EV charger for guest use. A $30 fee applies per use. Please request access and complete payment prior to using the charger.

Weekly stays are 15% off and monthly stays are 20% off. A longer stay works well if you want a quiet place to write or work remotely for a few weeks.
