We had a great time in Thornton le dale & surrounding villages, absolutely love Yorkshire. Positive: The location was perfect, The village of Thornton le Dale is just gorgeous.. The cottage is lovely, very homely & comfortable & furnished to a high standard, garden area & patio ect are great Negative: Housekeeping was disgraceful, on arrival most of the kitchen had not been cleaned, the white sink & draining tray were filthy the tray had dead insects on it & slimy, the microwave had smears & fingerprints on the outside & the glass plate on the inside was filthy, the toaster still had breadcrumbs sitting on top of it & was dirty.. The toilet/shower room, The wash hand basin area was splatted with toothpaste & soap over the surrounding walls, the ledge above had soap smears & hair, the toilet looked like it had been cleaned with a floor cloth with hair & marks, there was no toilet roll but a roll of kitchen towel was left! The owner can’t be contacted there is no phone number or email, however I sent plenty photos & emails to Booking.com .. on our last day I was sent an email to say someone was coming to address the cleaning issues & would I leave a key but I didn’t see the email till later that evening ( I wouldn’t have left a key anyway ) so when we got back later we realised someone had been in the cottage when we were out, This made me really angry & uncomfortable & caused me great anxiety, I really just wanted to go home.. & on checking what the cleaner had actually done when we were out.. The inside glass plate in the microwave had been cleaned but not the smears on the door, the toaster was cleaned, the sink was cleaned but not the drainage tray on the bunker it was still slimy with dead insects.. The toilet was cleaned & they had attempted to clean the ledge but it was still dirty & the DNA was still splatted over the wash hand basin area!! Oh & she left a toilet roll.. This is a lovely cottage but the owner obviously isn’t checking on housekeeping & it’s a massive letdown!!. I wish I could upload photos.

We spent a week in the cottage. On arrival it was spotlessly clean. The cottage has been tastefully modernised, is well equipped and is within a few yards of the village’s shops, pubs and restaurants. It has a nice outdoor space and we enjoyed sitting in the dining area by the French doors with a coffee when we couldn’t sit out. Without a parking space, we were concerned about being able to park on the road, but this wasn’t really an issue, although sometimes we had to leave the car in the 1 hour parking and move it when a space became available, but there was always an overnight spot. The kitchen was well equipped and the king size bed was very comfortable. Great location for exploring the local area and a trip to the coast. We would happily stay at Wind’s Croft again.

We had a great stay at Winds Croft. We stayed at the cottage due to days at Flamingoland and Go Ape at dalby forest. Absolute perfect location for both attractions. Spacious home with a beautiful kitchen and seating area, very clean and easy helpful instructions to enter the property. Thornton Le-Dale is a lovely village, good chippy round the corner and pizza shop, and delicious ice cream 5 mins away from the door step. Thanks for having us !!!!!!

A really nice, recently renovated/built place at the centre of the village. Spaciaous kitchen-cum-dining, which also had space for small sitting room, looking at the backyard through the French doors. It was perfect for me and two kids. We loved staying there. I would rate this full 5 starts if following two things were different: 1. the communication came mainly through the company handling the admin and not from the host. They used unrecognised numbers - if I had mistaken them for scam/spam, I would have missed check in information (this did not come via emails). It was also odd that around 5hr before check-in, they called me and asked me to fill a manfatory insurance form in order to release check-in info. It cought me while travelling and this was not mentioned during the booking. The insurance form was a new thing for me despite having used AirBnB regularly. 2. The (only) bathroom/toilet needs a lock! Also, having a shower curtain would keep the toilet/sink area dry.

Great location in the centre of Thornton-le-Dale, with a playground behind the town, lovely walks and quant shops. All very walkable and accessible. House is comfortable and bright. On-street parking is very limited and majority is limited to 1 hour stays between 8am-6pm. We were able to move the car in the late evening to directly outside (no parking restrictions). A perfect stay if wanting to explore North Yorkshire and the East Coast.

Positive: The location was ideal. Small village with lovely eateries and a local shop. Situated not far from a well stocked farm shop with an excellent cafe. Close enough to Pickering, Dalby Forest and Flamingo Land to provide ample entertainment for children of all ages. Property was well laid out, very clean, light and spacious. Also very comfortable with all the appliances, TV, refrigerator and freezer, washing machine, dishwasher etc. My 5 year old daughter asked me if we could live there permanently on our arrival. Loved it! Negative: There was nothing we majorly disliked. Couple of suggestions we would make are, more waste paper bins, particularly in the bathroom. Second one relates to the garden area. It is very nice layout which just needs a bit of work + colour. Had I been stopping longer it is a project I would've loved to get my teeth into!

Thornton le Dale has an excellent choice of eateries and a couple of pubs. We had delicious cakes from Munch, and coffee every morning from the tea shop on The Green. The pizza from Pizzaland was good, lasagna was nice and the chilli I had was insanely hot! Scampi and chips from the chippy was good too. Close to the cottage is a well stocked hardware shop selling pretty much everything you need or might have forgotten, as well as the Nisa across the road which has a brilliant selection of food, and also GF options too. Whitby Abbey is a must see, and if you can see the Dracula performance, it’s incredible. While also in Whitby, Captain Cook’s museum is well worth a look too, the guided tour is so informative. We’ve also seen Romeo & Juliet at Scarborough’s Esplanade. Staithes & Robin Hood’s Bay are a must but both steep walks! The cottage is amazing, with everything you could possibly need. Comfy beds, compressive kitchen! Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Positive: Very modern but sloping roof in bedroom and beneath the stairs caused a few headaches. Decor and fixtures and fittings very nice and lovely to have somewhere to sit outside in the sunshine . Very comfortable bed. Negative: Advertisement said several times there was private off road parking which was the main reason we chose this property and I specifically requested this when booking. However after payment (non refundable) had been made we were informed that the property had no parking and there was only street parking (limited) or public car park ( not overnight!!) which caused problems. Also lack of information regarding access to the property and key box code was only given after several phone calls and when we were literally standing on the doorstep of the property. On entering it obviously not been cleaned/prepared correctly as the floor had not been hoovered and there were dead flies lying around. 2 messages for the cleaners and a set of keys were also in the property and should not have been left for tenants. Very disappointed with the communication after we had made payment. Would not recommend.
