This is a perfect location from York, easily walkable in 20 mins and close to a bus route. The property was clean and tidy and perfect for a couples getaway. Would definitely stay here if coming to York again. Many thanks for a brilliant stay
Our stay was amazing, the house was beautiful, perfect for two people, as well as a great location to go into the city! overall we loved our stay, would definitely return and recommend!
The coziness and almost historical portal into an old York families home. exactly what you need for a shirt stay in a city. my only issue was the distance from York city centre. I may have missed something but on the description it said 10 minute walk to city centre. It was more like 40. I don't mind a long walk but my partner wasn't happy which became a daily thing. A lot of Uber was needed. But the stay itself was everything we needed
Lovely little house, had such a lovely time staying here with my boyfriend. Lots of local shops nearby :)
Lovely house for a couple Positive: Location was very central and the house was nicely decorated and comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking and it was lovely to be able to eat breakfast outside in the garden. Perfect size for a couple's holiday. Older reviews mentioned the lack of smart TV but the house did indeed have one when we visited. Negative: The duvet on the bed was too warm for the season, could have done with a thinner one for summer as it was 30c when we visited. There were no instructions on how to work the dishwasher so we were unable to use it. There were no pods for the coffee machine, but there were instant coffee sachets.
really gd stay for 2 people!!!
Good value stay Positive: Compact but fully functional cottage style accommodation in a terraced street, nice walk into town if you walk along the river, not as nice if you walk by road.
Lovely property and good value for money. Location was one downside, slightly further from city centre then we first thought however there was a nice walk along the river into York. Please bear in mind this is not lit at night.
Really good value for money! A lovely home with a fantastic, responsive and helpful host. Will definitely be booking again!
Good value, nice place, just needs a new mattress to make it a 10 Positive: Nice overall place for the price (against York prices at Christmas this was a little cheaper than most hotels) Can walk into the city in 20 mins And could park easily outside the house which was handy Negative: I really am not one to complain , however on this occasion I feel if the hosts read this they might save future complaints: The bed was so uncomfortable you really can feel every spring in the mattress! If this is updated the stay would be much better! Can’t complain with much else it is just as it looks on photos.
Really enjoyed our stay here we felt right at home. Loved the addition of the Christmas tree. Would definitely stay here again for our Christmas York trip.
Good location if you want to be close to the city. Loads of parking in the area too, which was what we were looking for mostly. The townhouse is beautifully designed and decorated, made it feel very home for the two nights we spent there. Since we were there close to Christmas, they put up a Xmas tree which was really nice and cosy. TV could be connected to YouTube casting. Just be careful with the stairs if you have balance or mobility issues. They are very steep, can feel a bit unsafe if going up and down fast. Also the front door does allow people outside to see in if they wanted to. Although it is quiet residential area and something unlikely to happen - this is something to be aware of in case you are concerned about your privacy or safety. Main issue we had was standard of cleaning. There was dust in radiators and ceiling. During our stay there was dirt coming out of shower drain. Hoping this is an issue resolved by the time anyone else stays.
We had a great time staying with Host and Stay. Loved the extra detail of the Christmas tree and that the house was decorated. We would definitely stay again and recommend it.
Had a lovely stay for my partners birthday, walking distance from the city centre which was perfect!
It’s grim and if you leave anything behind you’ll never get it back Positive: There isn’t much good about the property unfortunately. The area is quite run down, although it’s close enough to York centre if you don’t mind a 20-30 min walk. There is mostly everything you need here. The bathroom is clean and fairly modern. Negative: Where to start - The WORST - I left an expensive electric toothbrush in the bedroom, and on asking the next morning it could not be located to be returned. I know I left it in the bedroom, unfortunately we were no longer near the property when I realised. It’s a shame it was either stolen or more than likely binned by their housekeeping. THEY ABSOLUTELY DID NOT CARE AT ALL. THE BED IS THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE BED IVE EVER SLEPT IN. If you want a good nights sleep, don’t stay here. The rest - Cobwebs across the front door suggest no one has been in the property for a while and you could tell with the musty smell. The sofa is small and barely fits two people and it has faded stains. The kitchen is okay, it has a microwave and other general appliances. The coffee machine wasn’t working properly and judging by the crushed coffee pod inside hadn’t been for some time. The stairs are very steep and the treads narrow, difficult for anyone with any sort of mobility issues. There are patches of new plaster on the walls up the stairs and in the kitchen that have not been decorated over.
This house was great. It is ideal for what I wanted. Everything was clean and tidy. The furnishings were modern and comfortable. The bathroom was a highlight with a roll top bath. It felt like luxurious and spacious even though the house was small. The only real issue I had if at all was parking. Most of the time I could park right outside the house but there was one night where I had to park a little way away but I could still see the car from the bedroom window so that fine. It’s ideally located for the city centre but far enough away that you’re away from the hustle and bustle if you need a bit of quiet. And I thought it was really reasonably priced. I’m definitely going back. It was excellent for a little getaway.
Great stay for a family of 3. Approximately 25 minutes steady walk into the centre along the stunning river. Fully equipped kitchen. Easy self check in and out. Would stay again if visiting York.
Amazing flat decorated to a high standard Positive: Gorgeous flat, beautifully decorated with everything you could need for a great stay, amazing bathroom with old fashioned claw bath, back court with table and chairs for the good weather, very quiet area far enough away from the busy city centre but not to far out, excellent pizza place a minute away Negative: Noithing not to like
We loved our 3 night stay! We were hoping for a little more on the amenities side of things just for that extra special feel but I overall we had everything we needed! The home itself is comfortable, clean & welcoming. We found a direct route to walk into the city centre and enjoyed the sites along the way. Took us about 25-30 minutes and became an enjoyable part of our experience! Definitely felt like a home away from home. We would stay again.
Everything was great, felt like a home away from home, lovely setting. Just two little things that weren’t really an issue but more preference. One being the shower would be nicer being able to get it a bit hotter. The other was the bedroom radiator was locked on 0 so wouldn’t warm up when changing the thermostat. Wasn’t a massive issue and we didn’t enquire about it to see if there was a fix, as the bedding was really warm, but for somebody else staying there you might want to enquire about it.
The house is very nicely presented - spaces are compact (except for the bathroom), well-organized, clean, and comfortable. The host was in communication with us before, during, and after our stay. We were briefly confused about the wi-fi access - there were two different networks and passwords given, but that was sorted out quickly. The house is in a quiet neighborhood not far from the center of York. On-street parking is available (first come, first served). We made simple meals, but the kitchen is supplied with equipment to make just about anything, and the washing machine came in handy for food spills on shirts! The only difficulty we had was with the heat. It worked, but the thermostat seemed to be set quite low, and any adjustments only overrode that for a couple of hours. That was fine downstairs, but the bedroom upstairs was hard to keep warm on cold nights. We put the wooly blanket from downstairs on the bed, so we slept comfortably, but the room was generally on the chilly side. It wasn't enough of an issue to keep us from enjoying our stay, though. It was nice to be able to make our own meals, to have a living room to unwind in late in the evening, and to be away from the hustle and bustle of York. It's a great place, especially if you're planning a leisurely, slow-paced vacation. I thoroughly recommend it.
lovely home, good for our 2 night stay
Great place to stay in York - really responsive host and everything was spotless
I loved my stay in York! The place had a warm and cozy vibe which made us settle in super easy. I especially loved the lighting, no harsh or blinding lights just warm and adjustable ones, loved it!! The surrounding area was very industrial but there were plenty buses to get past these. I would absolutely stay here again, it was a pleasure!
We had a lovely time staying here for a weekend visit to York; the bed was comfortable, bath was a good size, the house was stocked with everything you may need when staying somewhere. I'd recommend this to others as a nice place to stay, the hosts were responsive to any and all questions we had and very helpful overall. Thank you for having us!
We had a great stay here! Not too far of a walk from the railway museum, around 30 minutes walk from the centre. There was parking outside which was an important factor in our trip too. We were able to enter the property easily and the place was immaculate, it had everything we needed for our stay, and had no issues whatsoever.
We stayed at The Railman's House for a weekend stay in York. The house was exactly as described in the listing, easy to find, plenty of parking, a quaint little townhouse. It was immaculately clean, lovely and warm on arrival (middle of January), and had everything we needed for our stay, even a dishwasher which we appreciated. It is a 30 minute walk into the city centre, but there is a bus stop around the corner, which had busses (number 59) running into, and back from York every 20 minutes, if the weather is too bad for walking. A local corner shop on the next street was very handy for anything you may have forgotten, or to top up on essentials. Overall, we will definitely use the property again if we return to York.
The railman’s house was the ideal location for our weekend away and away from the busy centre, it’s only an 8 minute drive or 30 minute walk away. The bedroom was cosy and comfortable, we didn’t want to leave. Our favourite feature was the bath, which may take a little while to fill but is definitely worth the wait to relax after all the exploring in York. Should we return to York in the future, I won’t hesitate is rebook again!
Such a lovely place to stay, clean and tidy and modern with touches of character
The location is within walking distance (15-20 mins) of York city center. I stayed for 3 nights, but I didn’t know that I needed to bring absolutely everything with me. Having a coffee machine doesn’t mean they provide a few days’ worth of coffee pods, and having a washing machine doesn’t mean they give you enough detergent to use it even once. I only found this out after I arrived. According to the host, this place is a self-catered home. If this is written in the description, then not reading it carefully enough is my fault, but when I saw these appliances listed under amenities, I naturally assumed that coffee and detergent would be provided. Since my stay was short, I was able to manage, but people planning to stay for a longer period may want to take this into consideration. However, the house was very nicely decorated and it was pleasant to spend time there. The sheets and towels were spotless. The host replied quickly to every message I sent.
Very nice Positive: Good location. Short walk into town Negative: Heating wouldn't stay on and was very cold in the living room, could do with some blankets and some heating instructions
The Railmans Cottage was what we had expected however it was a bit impersonal. Other Air BNBs we've stayed included things like fresh tea, coffee and sugar. Even a pint of milk. For nearly £600 for two nights we expected a smidge more comfort. Where as it felt very commercial and something you might find in a chain hotel. The area was quiet and it is walking distance like other reviews say. However, I would offer that to get to York city centre you're looking at 25 to 35 minutes walking. Considering there was obvious cleaning supplies in the house, it felt as though things had been missed. For example very obvious cobwebs and some crockery and glasses needing cleaning before use. Also there was cutlery left in the sink. The big selling point is the bathroom with the four footed tub, rain shower and almost immediately hot water. Everything else was fine.
Great place, was about 20 minutes into town, it’s a Beautiful house, well kept, had what we needed for the weekend. Would strongly recommend
Beautiful, clean, and tidy house in a lovely area, and so close to York city centre, a really nice 20 minute walk along the river. Thank you for such a nice place to stay.
We had a lovely stay! The property was spotless and exactly as pictured. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept well. The walk into the city centre took around 25 minutes and was beautiful along the River Ouse — we were lucky with the weather, which stayed dry and mild throughout our stay. A couple of small points to note: our car’s satnav struggled to find the property due to some local road closures, but the link the host sent us worked perfectly. The Wi-Fi connection was a little intermittent, and the heating was quite noisy when it came on early in the morning. The shower didn’t get very hot, but we enjoyed relaxing baths instead. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit and would happily stay again.
A lovely stay, in a clean and tidy home.
We had a lovely stay at this gorgeous house in York. It has everything you need for your stay. Just take note when booking it’s a 4pm check in and 10am check out. ☺️
The house was ideal for a short stay in York. Parking right outside the door, very quiet neighbourhood and a 15-20 minute walk along a path running adjacent to the River Ouse into town.
The house has been decorated very well and has a modern feel to it inside. Very clean. The only reason we didn’t give top marks was because the duvet cover was too small for the bed, also the shower water was warm at best and not very hot. Host was quick to respond to comms and we had a great time in York. Thank you.
We loved our stay here so much. The home was beautifully presented, with all the amenities we could have needed during our stay. The bed was SO comfortable! Wonderful host who was always so quick to respond. Would recommend staying here for your trip in York! Just note you’re around a 10-15 minute drive from the city centre.
Beautiful apartment! Positive: We loved the interior!!
The house was exactly as shown in photos and was perfectly located to make travel into York Centre easy. The host was very helpful and we felt right at home!
Not as described / reviewed Positive: Short walk from the city centre Negative: Mattress like a brick supposed to be 'comfortable' Weird stains on walls Rough area the local was a dive Frying pan bottom was bowl shaped Shabby paint job Bath hot tap makes terrible noise Bathroom sink tap loose Could do with a curtain over the front door to have increased privacy
Check in and location was very good, but unfortunately there was issues with accommodation which included general poor house keeping with cleanliness and stains on furnishings including bedding and sofa. We would like to stay again if the current issues were fixed as the area was nice and close to where we wanted to go
It was a beautiful little place with easy access to York city centre! Really comfy place!
Lovely stay would definitely recommend Positive: Lovely property decorated very modern Negative: Hot tap not working on bathroom sink
Loved the Railwayman's cottage - very cute. Perfect for a short stay. Not a fan of the immediate surrounding area. But found a lovely river-walk into town which more than made up for the more direct route (via BR station). Facilities & decoration very good. Thanks for the pleasurable stay. I would fully recommend.
A comfortable house within walking distance of York centre along the river. Check in was smooth with the lockbox. It’s in a quiet area. Host was responsive. We had a lovely stay in York.
We loved the decor of the house, with its homely feel, which helped us settle into our weekends stay in York. Ideal location that it's within 20 minutes walking distant to the city centre. Would highly recommend to anyone who's looking for a place to stay for a few days in such an amazing city!
The house was in a peaceful area and we were able to have the windows open at night. Bus service into York good. Service 59 stopped around the corner. Parking was very good we were able to park just a few spaces away from the front door. I would have liked to have known how steep the stairs were…no mention of this in the initial information. There was limited space in the bedroom for clothes to be hung just hangers on pegs. No drawers for jumpers/tshirts/smalls. So they had to be left in our bags or put on chairs. Green and orange grime in the shower which I now see was mentioned in a review back in April but hasn’t been acted on. Cups were right at top of the cupboard!?? Good job my husband could reach them! Very odd as usually near to the kettle and tea/coffee. Did not use garden or front room.
Really enjoyed our stay – the location was super convenient for walking into town - around 25 minutes. The house was clean, tidy, and well-equipped with good amenities. Very comfortable bed. Communication from the host was also really fast & helpful. A few minor issues, the water in the shower didn’t quite get hot enough, very cold downstairs even with underfloor heating on & some DIY bits that needed attention - made parts of the house feel a little worn, but overall we had a good experience and would stay if we were to come back to York
The place was very homely and cosy
The Railmans house is a warm, comfortable, clean and tidy place. The kitchen is well equipped , but all the cupboards are full and there is very little space to store food. The bed is very comfortable, but there is a lack of wardrobe/ drawers. We had to put our folded jumpers and smalls etc on the chairs in the bedroom. Easy to find and is close to the railway station and the Railway Museum. It is approximately a 20 minute walk into York centre. There is a regular bus service, , the number 59, Park and ride bus. Will recommend The Railmans House to friends and family.
4th time visiting York.. This was a great find in a new location for us. We loved the location and the walk into the city along the river (especially in the sun). The place is lovely, with a few tweaks, I would’ve given this 5* all day long! Despite this, I would recommend and would book again - thank you.
We really enjoyed our stay at Dales place in York, very stylish and cosy! also a short walk away from York train station (ideal for us 😊) would highly recommend, thanks again!
Such a lovely place, we really enjoyed staying and would definitely recommend!
The house suited our needs perfectly and we had an excellent stay. Positive: Location was great . A quiet residential area and just a 20 minute stroll in to the city centre and rail station
We had such a great time staying at this Airbnb! The place was exactly as described—clean, cozy, and thoughtfully decorated. The location was perfect, close to everything we needed but still quiet and peaceful. The host was super responsive and friendly, and made check-in a breeze. I especially appreciated the little touches like fresh towels, local recommendations. We would absolutely stay here again next time we visit!
This property boasts a modern and clearly recently renovated interior, which was appreciated. The cleanliness was okay. However, there were some noticeable issues that detracted from the stay, including peeling paint in areas and obvious green and orange grime in the shower. The shower didn’t get very warm at all. Although, the bath was lovely and hot. Addressing these maintenance concerns (described previously) would greatly improve the overall experience. The property is 10-15 minutes drive into the centre. The area is quiet which was lovely.
Lovely stay, clear instructions and fast response times
I had a really enjoyable visit. The accommodation was lovely and cosy. It’s ideally located far enough away from the city centre to be quiet but not so far that you can’t get there easily. Definitely going back.
Lovely place, we really enjoyed our stay
Spotless, nicely decorated house. comfortable couch & bed, and the bathroom was lovely, especially the bath. Walkable to york city centre along the river, takes about 25 minutes. The staircase up to the second floor is steep but managable, just wanted to note. The place had everything we needed for a short stay in York, thank you to the host. 🙂
A nice little place with just a short walk into York along the river. Easy check in and clear communication.
Lovely quaint cottage, well decorated. Comfortable stay, not too far from the city centre. We had a lovely stay!
Good Positive: The property was furnished well and it was clean. Tea, coffee and milk was provided and we were easily able to access the heating and the Smart TV. A taxi to the centre cost us about £7, so the location was good overall. Negative: The bed was really uncomfortable.. you could feel the springs in the mattress and the pillows were very lumpy. We weren’t able to sleep well for the three nights we were there. Also, the shower wasn’t very warm even on the highest setting which was quite disappointing in late December.
Impressed Positive: Lovely break in a convenient location. Great facilities and bed. Compact and beju, very glad we found. Negative: The shower needs to be a little warmer.
Great location but the heating downstairs was not very good.
Really good space. Comfortable and had all amenities needed. The bath was great. Would book again.
Very nice house. Well kept apart from rubbish bags in bad yard and dish washer was blocked. The person on the chat was not helpful. But once called the person on the phone was very helpful. Amazing location. Short Walk in to centre of York by the river.
Ok for the price however I feel that I do not have an option with their insurance because the other option is deposit with admin fee. With the insurance I thought it’s gonna be well kept and maintained house but there are obvious wear and tear and damages to the wall. The shower leaks to kitchen wall hence we could not use it the next day. They sent plumber however we were not informed before going out hence we could not leave the key. The back door is broken and can’t open hence the bin is full and even has some bags on the side. Good thing the staff (online & phone) are responsive and friendly.
Lovely comfortable house within walking distance of the centre of York.
York made the trip worth while, but the house was bit of a let down. Positive: The house was clean and tidy, the area it,s in is very quite, and there is a local pub with a cafe also attached to it, also a small corner shop near by. Shower worked fine as did everything in the kitchen . Negative: I thought the house was a bit shabby, and the fixtures and fittings were not of much quality , hot tap in upstairs bathroom, turned on both ways which was strange, both bathroom and bedroom door stuck in the frame , bedside lamps you could not really use as the bracket was worn and would not stay were you wanted it to. Also i could not get the heating to work, how ever much i tried to use either box. wall paper very worn in places going up the step stairs.
Lovely cottage, the furnishings were lovely and a generously sized bathroom. The garden was a little sun trap and such a perk being able to park right outside. Thank you, we will be back!
beautiful home and location Positive: Beautiful home. Clean tidy and all the facilties you need. Quiet area no issues with parking. Close to city. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning. Negative: No negatives
very easy to find and friendly
Exceeded our expectations- very happy and would stay again
Walkable location to a lovely city from a nice home, but we left feeling very let down. It took more than 1.5 days to get a response about a possible security issue, there was compulsory damage insurance with details about what we'd paid for held back until we'd paid, and many bulbs needed replacing / fittings were wobbly and needed tightening. For what we paid it didn't seem worth it.
The terrace house was very tidy and organized. Everything was clean and ready to use. There weren’t any shops or eateries nearby that I could tell, but within a 30 minute walk you found everything. The plumbing in the bath was a bit wonky. Flushing the toilet took practice and turning off the faucet and shower completely was a bit of a challenge. But it was a well kept property otherwise and very suitable.
The railwaymen house york Positive: Nice and quiet ,very clean Negative: 4 pm booking time
Positive: The house was clean and the location was very good Negative: It was very cold, the under floor heating did not seem to work
Very nice and cosy house
Thank you we really enjoyed our stay, the place was homely and clean. The Airbnb was also very close to York city centre which was convenient.
We really enjoyed our stay. It’s a lovely apartment in a great location for the city centre. We will definitely be coming back!
This was one of the best places we’ve stayed without a doubt! It was really easy to get to when arriving and going to and from the city. Very clean and tidy house - as well as being so beautiful! Only downside I’d say was that the bed was not the most comfortable one ever, but it did the job at the end of the day. Would definitely stay there again!
Lovely place to stay in York. Beautifully presented and very clean and tidy. Be aware there are some extra insurance charges that come after you have booked on the Airbnb site .
The home was as described with a few extras such as a hairdryer which was not listed. It is a beautiful space and very well firnished nut coukd donwith some upgradesbin regards to the tv. also, there is a coffee machine but no pods available. There is a lovely shower but at our time of visiting there was no available hot water. The very nice bath did manage to appease this. I found the constant emailing and text messages from the host annoying. I feel £50 cleaning fee is excessive when A. you are asked to leave the place clean on the leaving message and B. there was dust and cobwebs throughout the property. We also asked for early check in by one hour but this could not be accommodated because of a cleaning schedule. Overall, the property did what it said on the tin but I wouldn't be in a rush to rebook.
The property was beautiful, we had a lovely stay. We would happily stay again. The transport isn’t far from city centre and there are multiple restaurants and little pubs around.
Good location, fair price, lovely interior and decent parking.
Nice stay, neighbourhood was quite and walkable into York.
Overall very nicely done air BnB Positive: Very well furnished and decorated, was a very cosy stay. Good location not too far from town. Very comfy bed Negative: A smart TV the would make a big difference here. You have a washing machine and a coffee pod machine so a couple of washing tabs/coffee pods would make these usable. Also the shower didn’t go very hot? Dishwasher handle falls off ever time you try to open the door. Overall very happy with stay though
Convenient location for the city centre. Pleasant walk into the city along the river.
it’s was ok as a temporary stay Positive: it was clean Negative: no heating anywhere down stairs toilet didn’t flush properly hot water tap in bathroom didn’t switch off properly
An excellent weekend spoiled by a issue that should have been resolved prior to our stay. Positive: The property has been renovated to a high standard. Although there was no designated parking, I was able to park outside the property. It is very easy to get to York city by public transport. Negative: There was a major safety issue when a handrail on the stairs came away from the wall. A previous review reported the issue but nothing had been done to make it safe. THIS ISSUE MUST BE RESOLVED BEFORE A SOMEBODY IS SERIOUSLY INJURED!!
Positive: It had a washing machine, cooking facilities. The bathroom was incredible. Negative: Steep stairs with a hand railing that had come off the wall I was left feeling nervous when I had to go up and down them. Bed was uncomfortable, there was a lot of flies when we first came in. Hot tap in the bathroom was faulty. Could of done with a tv in the bedroom. The pillows were uncomfortable!! It wasn’t the cleanest.
