My family and I had a great time at the library retreat in Pine Plains! The property was gorgeous and great for our large family. There were a few things that could be improved -- there were several wasps nests around the property and a few of us got stung! The rental team was very responsive and someone came out the next day to spray them. We also noticed there were some bats living in one of the chimneys! Luckily they didn't get into the house, but it was a bit unsettling. The listing also stated there were 4 queen sized beds and 2 doubles, but we found out there were actually 3 queen sized beds and 3 double sized beds, which was difficult with the number of and height of our fam! Accurate information in that regard is appreciated. Another suggestion is to install curtains/blinds to all the bedrooms. Some bedrooms did not have any kind of coverings. We also wished there was more outdoor furniture to enjoy. The scenery was beautiful but there were no tables or chairs on the patios. Otherwise the houses were all beautifully decorated and maintained. The rental team was very responsive to any questions we had, which was great. Overall it was a great family vacation spot!
Kids loved the playroom and hidden rooms behind the library wall. Furnishings were cozy and look like the photos. Kitchen clean and easy to cook in! Great for two families. Beds were very comfortable. Thank you!
We spent Thanksgiving at the Library Retreat, and enjoyed a nice family reunion there. Red Cottage was always extraordinarily responsive, especially when the water pump failed unexpectedly over the holiday weekend — they were able to send people out to try to address promptly. We appreciated how Red Cottage went out of their way to ensure they did what they could given the circumstances. We would recommend an updating of the sleeping arrangements that are described/listed, and what is found at each of the houses, so guests can better prepare to bring what they need. We also highlighted a few cleanliness considerations that Red Cottage ought to address. But overall, we were grateful to spend the time there and very complimentary of Red Cottage’s management.
Amazing place! Absolutely beautiful! Perfect for large family gatherings with young babies and/or toddlers! Including great hill to roll down! So many toys and books! Great sleeping possibilities. Perfect heated pool. Would love to return!
Nestled in idyllic surroundings, the Library Retreat proved to be an oasis of tranquility for our Mother's Day Weekend getaway. Accompanied by two other families, we found ample space to relax and unwind. The kids absolutely loved the playroom in the main house and exploring the expansive grounds. The breathtaking views from the Red House added to the charm, creating a picturesque backdrop for our shared breakfasts. It’s also the perfect location—just a 9 minute drive to the Main Street in Pine Plains and ~20 minute drive to Millbrook and Wassaic. We can’t recommend enough!
We had a wonderful two night stay at the library retreat, just wish we could have stayed longer! It was a unique set up with the three houses and that worked well for our family gathering. The children’s room had an abundance of toys and books and was a big hit for the grandchildren Communication before, during and at the end of our stay was prompt and helpful. An idyllic setting with lots of space for everyone to spread out provided an enjoyable visit for us all. Thank you, Shernaz
