This beautiful home is set deep in the country and completely private. Very clean and comfortable. A nice location for hiking, and seeing the Berkshire towns. The wonderful The Old Inn On The Green is just down the road and is a special treat for dining. Several things to note: the notes did not tell us that the GPS might default to the neighboring town so both myself and our guests drove around and around lost on a long dirt road...and were directed by GPS to enter in on a road that is very rocky and long as apposed to two other entrances that are much more driveable. This should be spelled out clearly before arrival. Our two GPS can't be the only to have this happen. Also, the door to the bathroom and one bedroom would not close shut. Very inconvenient for privacy to say the least and it took 2 of the 3 nights before it was fixed. This should not have been an issue at the rate paid. Also, as a VRBO owner myself I have a fully stocked cabinet of spices and there was not even salt and pepper at the house. Most people do not think to buy s&p at a travel home. And no baggies, foil, etc. These things would upgrade the home experience as no one wants to buy supplies. Lastly, the bedding was quite nice but the pillows on the beds are enormous and everyone woke up saying they were too thick and had a stiff neck...maybe have one of each type instead of "fat" only. Thank you though for a beautiful home with a wonderful setting!
Great house in a quiet, secluded location in walking distance to trails at Steepletop Reserve.
We had a great experience. The internet was down during our visit but the hosts were very responsive and tried their best to troubleshoot. Ultimately we didn’t ask for more than that, since it wasn’t a necessity for our time there, and helped us unplug.
The location was great, but the cottage was dirty. We found broken glass on the floor which was extra terrible as we were traveling with 2 toddlers. We also double checked with them the day before arriving that there was a bbq available and they said yes. However, we arrived at dinner time and couldn’t find one, and when we contacted them they took two hours to look into it and confirm there wasn’t a BBQ. One of the worst managed Airbnb’s we’ve stayed at.
Wonderful stay—our family of 4 (two adult children) loved this house. Beautiful, quiet spot in the woods, lovely interiors, lots of space to gather together or find solitude. Hosts were very communicative and helpful. Bottled water is nice to have due to slight sulphur smell of well water. Overall, a very restorative family getaway. We would love to come back.
What a beautiful spot. In the middle of the winter with below freezing temperatures it was a little hairy getting there but we were prepared and were given great advice ahead of time by our contact. The house was warm and toasty and we were about 20 min away from Butternut and downtown Great Barrington. The view was incredible and so incredibly quiet. We saw multiple dear during our visit which is always fun. If we head back in that direction we will certainly be staying again.
The house is spacious and well equipped. It is in a beautiful, remote location.
However our trip did not go very well and I am not sure I would recommend this place.
1) During the very first night my bed collapsed. It's wooden frame came apart and the right side collapsed to the floor, making it impossible to sleep. It was just me sleeping on that bed - a normally sized adult male. The bed frame is old and looked like it has been fixed with screws before.
2) At some point during the first the heat went out. It was 15 degrees outside that night. We all woke very early because it was too cold - 50 degrees in the house. The management responded quickly. Heat was restored within 4 hours. It took 4 more hours for the house to warm up.
The house just ran out of gas. How do you not check the level of gas in the winter, if you use it for heat?! That is just negligence.
We had to spend many hours in the cold. And the communication while quick, was very impersonal and indifferent.
Frustrating
Wonderful place. Very comfortable beds and decorated in a west elm style. Water has a sulfur smell so bring bottled water. We really enjoyed the space as we could spread out comfortably. Door lock was a little tricky but need to lift handle up fully then turn bolt to left. Beautiful screened in porch. Bird watchers delight. Would definitely stay again.
Peaceful natural oasis, great for my family get together
What a fabulous home! Comfortable in every way and artfully designed and cared for. The kitchen is a delight to anyone who loves to cook. Everything you need is there! We’re already looking forward to a future visit!
The house is beautiful! Very private wooded area. We brought two grandchildren ages 6 and 8. We used the ping pong table everyday and the treadmill. We cooked all our meals in the stocked kitchen. We enjoyed being together in the same room while preparing meals. Lots of light from the large windows. The house was very comfortable without air conditioning. The windows and fans did the job even during a heatwave.
Our only problem was the master bedroom had a terrible sulfur odor. We had to move to the downstairs bedroom. The odor never dissipated. Maybe a whole house filtering system would help. We did that in our own home to fix the same problem. Before that we would purge the pipes with a mild chlorine bleach solution and had filters for our drinking water.
Otherwise, we had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the house. The outer screened room was very comfortable and we ate dinner and breakfast out there several times.
This is our second visit to this place. And we’ll be back again. Attractive. Comfortable and spacious.
The home is beautiful and comfortable. Red Cottage was very efficient and stayed in close contact. We plan to book a return visit in the Spring.
The home was beautiful, however, as a matter of personal taste and due to the fact that it is a modern design, we found the home to be cold and not inviting. The description did accurately state that the fireplace was outside, but we were surprised to find that it had no windows and useless. Also, though the description says there is a TV, it should sat that the only TV is in the finished basement and there are no TVs in the living room or any of the bedrooms. Further, there were no instructions on how to operate the TV and that you had to log in to the WI-fi account to get reception. Not a big deal, but an inconvenience.
Most importantly was the walkway up to the house. Some effort was made to clear the walkway but it was still covered with snow and ice. We used the poker the wood stove poker to chop away the ice. Very dangerous and an inexcusable oversight.
nice place
We had a great visit & the Red Cottage. The space was beautiful and calm and we always enjoyed coming home after a day in Great Barrington, Tanglewood, or longer excursions.
Absolutely lovely. Spacious. Clean. Tasteful. Light with beautiful scenery.
Fantastic location, and a wonderful stay!
Lovely surroundings and comfortable, spacious interior.
