Nearby towns: Hillsdale (7mins), Hudson (15mins), Chatham (20mins), Great Barrington (25mins), Catskill (25mins), Millerton (25mins), Kinderhook (25mins), Rhinebeck (30mins)

Set on a serene mountaintop, Lockwood Lodge is a striking modern chalet thoughtfully designed with both comfort and sustainability in mind. The home features a pool, an expansive glass façade, vaulted ceilings, a covered lower level patio and a wraparound raised deck, providing multiple seating areas to take in the sweeping views of the Berkshires and nearby Catamount Mountain.

The bright, open-concept living space showcases a warm, modern Scandinavian-inspired design with natural materials, a dramatic vaulted ceiling clad in rich wood paneling, and expansive windows offer an abundance of natural light. Step back in time and enjoy your favorites with a restored vintage record player and curated vinyl collection.

A welcoming dining area where a rustic wood table offers seating for up to ten guests is perfectly positioned near large windows for a relaxed, sunlit dining experience while a bright kitchen presents white cabinetry, a breakfast bar and a sliding glass door with direct access to the spacious deck. A powder room and laundry area are conveniently located just off the main living space, while upstairs, an open loft provides a peaceful spot for reading or working remotely.

The primary bedroom, located on the main floor, features a king size bed and an en-suite bathroom with dual sinks and a walk-in shower. Sliding doors lead directly to a deck with seating and access to the yard and pool.

On the lower level, three guest bedrooms share a bathroom with a shower/tub combo. Two guest bedrooms on this level each offer a queen size bed, one of which includes a laptop friendly workspace while the fourth bedroom, ideal for families or groups, feature four extra long built-in bunk beds, a TV, a cozy couch and direct access to the lower level covered patio.

The spacious wraparound deck is complete with Adirondack chairs and a solo stove for evenings under the stars. The deck, yard, and pool area offer surrounding views of the hillside and valley, leading towards the Berkshire and Taconic Mountains.

Lockwood Lodge offers a memorable stay in a truly special setting, ideal for a quiet nature retreat, a stylish weekend getaway, or a base to explore the Hudson Valley and Berkshires.

The area

At Lockwood Lodge, you’re surrounded by some of the region’s most beloved restaurants, trails, and small-town gems, many just a short drive away.

Start your morning in Hudson with coffee and flaky pastries from Le Perche, or head to Bartlett House for a relaxed, locally sourced breakfast (closed Mondays and Tuesdays). If you’re stocking up for a picnic or a cozy night in, we always recommend Talbott & Arding for exceptional cheeses and prepared foods, or a stop at the Hillsdale farmers market on Saturdays in season.

For lunch or dinner, Hudson and the surrounding towns deliver. Feast & Floret is a standout for handmade Italian and a lively atmosphere. For something historic and beautifully done, book a table at Stissing House. In nearby Great Barrington, Prairie Whale is a longtime favorite for seasonal American fare. And for a sweet treat before heading home, don’t miss Fortunes Ice Cream.

Outdoor adventures are part of daily life here. Explore waterfalls and woodland trails at Bash Bish Falls State Park, wander the art-filled landscape at Art Omi, or catch a mountaintop sunset overlooking the Hudson River at Olana State Historic Site. Cyclists love the scenic stretches of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, easily accessed from Hillsdale.

For a little adventure, spend the day ziplining or skiing at Catamount Mountain Resort. Then wind down with a local pour at Suarez Family Brewery or Roe Jan Brewing Co.

Lockwood Lodge is just 2.5 hours from New York City. A car is essential for getting there and exploring the area. The main access routes are the Taconic State Pkway, Sprain Brook Pkway S and I-87 S. We strongly recommend a 4x4 or a car with four-wheel drive, especially in winter, to handle snow and gravel roads.

Notes from your host

The pool closes every year seasonally just around mid October and reopens typically around early May.
