Welcome to Hubbell Hill Saltbox, a classic Catskills saltbox style home, tucked into the hills above Margaretville, with views across the valley and plenty of room to spread out. The location is an outdoors paradise, with easy access to Belleayre Mountain and the Slide Mountain Wilderness, home of the Catskills' highest peaks, hiking, biking, fishing, and more. Back at Hubbell Hill after your adventure the house is all set for slow mornings, long dinners on the deck, and starry nights by the fire. This spacious but snug 3 bedroom, 2 full bath home sleeps up to 8 guests.

When you come in the front door, you’ll step into a mudroom that doubles as the laundry room, a handy spot to drop ski gear, hiking boots, and wet jackets. From there, walk into the large, well-equipped kitchen, which opens right into the open concept dining and living room. This layout is great for groups, cooks can take orders from kids on the couch, cocktails can flow from room to room as you settle in for a relaxing weekend in the mountains, and everyone can gather around the table or settle into the living room after a day outside. Three sets of doors lead from the main living space out to the large deck that wraps around three sides of the house, bringing the views and fresh mountain air inside.

Also on the first floor is a bedroom with a king bed, along with a full bathroom with a shower/tub combo. It’s a great fit for guests who’d like to skip the stairs.

Upstairs, you’ll find two more bedrooms under skylights that fill the rooms with natural light by day and give you a peek at the stars at night. One bedroom has a king bed and the other has two full beds, which works well for kids, friends, or a second couple. Both upstairs bedrooms have a TV. A full bathroom with a shower/tub combo serves both rooms.

Outside, the decks wrap around the house, so there’s a spot for every part of the day. On the side deck, the hot tub is set right into the deck, with comfy lounge chairs nearby for warming up between soaks. The long back deck has a propane grill and an outdoor dining table with chairs, made for summer dinners at sunset. On the side lawn, the fire pit is ready for s’mores and stories under the Catskills sky.

Whether you’re here to ski Belleayre, paddle the Pepacton, or just unplug in the hills, Hubbell Hill Saltbox is a cozy, comfortable place to come back to. We can’t wait to welcome you.

The area

Hubbell Hill Saltbox sits in the western Catskills, just outside the village of Margaretville. Stroll Main Street for antiques, coffee, and dinner at the Binnekill Tavern, then catch a scenic ride on the Delaware & Ulster Railroad in Arkville. Skiers can reach Belleayre Mountain in about 15 minutes, with Plattekill Mountain a short drive further. The Pepacton Reservoir offers miles of quiet shoreline for fishing and kayaking, and the trails of the Catskill Forest Preserve are right at your doorstep. Spend a Saturday at the Pakatakan Farmers Market in Halcottsville, explore the shops and restaurants of Andes, or head to Brushland Eating House in Bovina for a memorable meal. In fall, the surrounding hills put on one of the best foliage shows in New York, and every season brings a new reason to return to this corner of the Catskills.

Hubbell Hill Saltbox is about 2.5 hours from New York City and guests should plan to travel around by car as it is a rural area with limited public transportation. The main routes to access the town are NY-17W to NY-30N or the NY State Thruway (I-87N) to NY-28W.

In the winter, we recommend a car with four-wheel drive that can handle the snow and gravel roads.
