Great stay in the Peak District! I loved this place. It’s right above the pub, nights were quiet and restful. The staff were extremely friendly, and the validated parking was a real bonus. Our room was spotless with all the essentials provided. The location couldn’t be better—on the town’s main road with two other pubs a short stroll away and a mini supermarket nearby. Perfect base for exploring, with comfort and convenience wrapped into one. Most of the walking trails can started from the pub itself. Would happily stay again.

Superb location - could feasibly walk from the pub to Mam Tor and back in 4-5 hour loop, Win and Lose hill are around 2 hour round trips for hiking. Very quiet overnight, easy check in process. Room was reasonably clean, slight smell of smoke which quickly resolved after opening windows (likely from previous guests). Clean linen, tea and coffee facilities. Not particularly flexible with later check out times (10am). Smashing, affordable breakfast in the pub in the morning. Reasonable value for the price. Hosts were very polite, helpful and no issues (unlike some previous reviews on google).

A great location for walking in the Peaks or visiting Castleton/ Hathersage and surrounding area. Twin Room was lovely with comfortable beds and good shower. Was quiet even though room was above a pub. Could have done with some teaspoons and a hairdryer but was very pleased with oatmilk for hot drinks in room. Several good cafes directly opposite. A great place to stay and would recommend .

This was a gem of a find! Perfect location for the hikes which we had planned and it had everything that we needed for our stay. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. Check in and out couldn’t have been easier. We will definitely try and book here again on our next visit!

Nice room above good pub, beds were comfy, on main road but wasn’t too noisy, clean, bathroom super modern with monsoon shower and provided toiletries plus tea and coffee, easy check-in by simply speaking to the bar staff and getting key, only issue was we had no hot water the following morning, but good comms in getting this sorted by the time we got back from our walk.

Loved our stay here, super friendly and helpful staff, especially the young girl behind the bar!! Would stay again!

Positive: The pub and atmosphere was fantastic. Negative: Food wasn’t great but OK. Lots, I mean lots of small flies and DEAD flys in the room and bathroom. A massive amount of dead flys on the window bay, which clearly hadn’t been cleaned. Really spoilt it for us.

Good location to explore Peak District. Rooms have been refurbished. Ensuite shower is very small. Rooms are above pub, music finishes around 10.30/11pm. Once pub closes access to the rooms is via external fire exit staircase, which you have a key to unlock. Housekeeping was not good; we found a pair of bed socks tucked in the bottom of the bed which made us think that the bed linen had not been changed since the previous guest. Cleaning in the ensuite was average.

We expect more on this room rate. Positive: Excellent location. A few good choices of cafes for breakfast are available near the hotel. Overall the room is well decorated, tidy and comfortable. The interior is pretty new. But toiletries need big improvement. We were given only one small piece of soap for each.

lovely pub unfortunately we booked the twin room and got the one bed room. it could not be changed before the next day. which was unfortunate in our case. the people where very nice and friendly.
