Wood Street Cottage Positive: We stayed at Wood Street Cottage for 4 nights and We had the most wonderful time catching up with family and the cottage had everything we needed, it was clean, cosy and was very central. Town centre was very close and access to all restaurants were very good, including Capri Italian restaurant at the bottom of the lane. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Wood Street Cottage and well definitely be back. Negative: I couldn't see anything we didn't like.

Great location with everything needed for a comfortable stay. It suited our little family perfectly.

We were in Barnard castle for my sons cricket festival at Barnard Castle school. Positive: Everything Home from home Negative: Nothing

Fabulous cottage in a great location. Easy walking distance to shops, pubs and some great countryside and riverside walks. Didn't need to use the car at all during our stay. Was a little disappointed that the rear garden was not very private and only has a small gate which a medium dog could easily jump over. Would have appreciated a bit more of a welcome pack as we've always had at other cottages. There was only one dishwasher tab, one toilet roll, a few sachets of milk, about 5 teabags. No kitchen roll, tin foil etc. Also only 4 coat hangers per bedroom. I would happily stay here again but would pack more of the essentials (and coat hangers!). Would be happy to recommend this place to friends and family.

Lovely break in an area we hadn't visited previously but would definitely return Positive: Location was excellent for walking into town and surrounding areas. Very comfortable and a good size for a cottage. The outside area was also a bonus having a dog. Negative: Could have provided more everyday cleaning products and the bin in the kitchen didn't have a lid. The approach to the cottage was a little tight and as the next door neighbours cars were there permanently it was a bit difficult for us to reverse into our spot so we left the car on the main street close by.

Very good overall. Positive: Excellent location in the centre of Barnard Castle. Everything we wanted to do was within walking distance. Negative: We hadn't really noticed that the property was dog friendly, so sofas etc pretty basic and not comfortable.

Great location in Barnard Castle Positive: Lovely, comfy space, very quiet location yet almost in the town centre. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. There was both a bath and a shower, the former being something we really appreciate as we don't have one at home. Communication from the agents was excellent and very helpful. We come up to the area once or twice a year to see friends and we love Barnard Castle (Barney to the locals). It is small and friendly with quite a lot to see locally and some lovely walks. This let is perfectly located for us We would definitely book again Negative: The road where the cottage is located is very narrow and not all the neighbours parked well. There is only 1 toilet and it is in the bathroom. Not an issue for the 2 of us but we'd like to bring another couple with us and then it could be

Lovely, warm space in the perfect place for all the shops, Witham and our friends' house. Positive: The facilities at the cottage were excellent. No complaints at all. In addition, the rooms were lovely and warm. Plenty spaces for toiletries and clothes. We were there as a couple, but cottage was spacious enough to house 4 people very comfortably. Negative: A washing-up bowl would have been handy. In the bedroom at the side with the window, there appeared to be a hole in the floor under the carpet.

Everything we needed for a relaxing break. Positive: Although parking is provided, the lane is very tight and would not suit larger vehicles. We just got through. I liked the eco-friendly features, although these were slightly confusing where the guide book prides itself using who gives a crap but no other rolls provided. The owner was great in answering my query but I found Host and Stay's reply rude as I am very aware these places are self catering. I wanted to ensure I was following the ethos of the owner. The location was perfect.

Great location, great value, fabulous stay! Positive: Room sizes and layout, especially the kitchen/dining room into the courtyard was perfect for our three-night stay. Was perfect for me, my pal and my two dogs. Negative: It was all good!

Super comfy and well Located

We had a lovely couple of days staying in this cosy and peaceful accommodation. It was just as described and offered every amenity needed for a comfort stay. In a perfect location for walking into the town and also visiting the Bowes Museum.

The cottage was perfect for our requirements.

The house is lovely as you walk in and they supply most things that you need, but we had some issues. In one of the bedrooms the bed was very old and every time you moved it made a noise, very uncomfortable. Also the bed broke when we sat on it after the 1st night, and when we asked for it to be fixed, they said they would send someone. After 6 hours with no communication, I chased it up and they said no one could come until Monday. We were staying Friday-Sunday and it happened on the Saturday morning, we had to beg them to come and fix it as we wouldn’t have had anywhere to sleep that night. There was also mould on the ceiling in our bedroom. There was also some basic things missing, very small tumbler glasses, limited cutlery and no cooking oil, and the dishwasher was awkward to use as the compartment to put the tablet in was broken. Overall it’s an okay place but it could be better if they fix the mould, put a new bed in the smaller room, and add basic things are needed.

Will definitely book the property when we return to Barnard Castle. We were extremely comfortable Positive: We felt at home immediately and loved the property Negative: Nil

Prooerty is spotlessly clean and well equipped. There is a parking space and the town is a few minutes walk, it's very well located

Had a great stay here. Place was clean and tidy and fully equipped with everything you need. Very nice house to stay in and would definitely stay here again.

Positive: Cottage is located down a narrowish lane, parking could be difficult if you have a big car, very quiet area, but within easy walking distance to local shops & eateries, spacious kitchen dining area, comfy beds, neighbours either side friendly & helpful, Negative: Nothing to dislike, altho maybe a better welcome pack ie: pint of milk, loaf, & butter would be great

This was a lovely property and we very much enjoyed our stay. The house is located in a very quiet street, so no traffic noise or noise from neighbours. It is a short stroll to the town centre with its castle, shops, pubs and a few restaurants. You can also walk easily to The Bowes Museum. The house itself is excellent. Very well decorated, modern, well-equipped and well laid out. It is spacious and we had everything we needed and had we wanted to cook, that would have been easy to do in the great kitchen. There is a small, pleasant back yard with a table and 4 chairs for evening drinks. We liked the personal touches such as shower gel and shampoo which we used instead of our own and it was very nice. There was also a selection of cleaning equipment, bin bags and a dishwasher tablet to start you off. The safety lights in the electric sockets were also a great idea. Overall we thought this was an excellent property and would definitely return.

Lovely stay. Positive: The facilities in the cottage it had everything we could need,it was in a good location. Negative: If I had one tiny thing to say it is the sofas whilst comfy for a short sit down they weren't very comfy on the night when we relaxed to watch tv, we would normally relaxin bed and watch a film but as no tv upstairs had to watch in sitting room.

Lovely place in a great location

Really enjoyed the stay, excellent property. One thing I would mention is the off road parking isn’t the largest so if you have a large vehicle like we do, it’s slightly tight, this however will not put me off returning.

Lovely, bright, cosy cottage Positive: Lovely cottage and a great location, really easy access to the town and the hospital where I was visiting a family member was 2 minutes car journey up the road. Would highly recommend. Negative: The only down side was the cooking hob didn't work so had to eat out, however this was reported and should now be fixed.

Very pleasant stay in a beautiful town Positive: This property is centrally located. It takes just minutes to walk into Barnard Castle, with all its lovely restaurants and cafes. The cottage is spacious and well appointed. The bed in the main bedroom was gigantic and both beds were comfortable. We found everything we needed for our stay and more. The neighbour in the adjoining property was very friendly. He came straight out to meet us on our arrival and gave us some restaurant recommendations and maps of the local area. Negative: The sofas in the lounge were a little on the small side and not the most comfortable. I don’t think this would be a problem if you visited during the warmer months and were out and about most of the time. However, the weather was very cold so we’d planned lots of cosy nights in at the cottage and would have appreciated a bit more comfort.

A very enjoyable and comfortable stay Positive: Nice spacious modern cottage with comfortable furniture. Very close to the town centre and free parking in front of the cottage. Negative: Some of the flooring at the top of the stairs and in the large bedroom is in need of repair The walls have alot of marks on them and are in need of a fresh coat of paint. The carpets and rug pretty stained and could do with being cleaned. We arrived in the dark and there was no light to see the keysafe/number.

We had a pleasant stay. The neighbour was very helpful on our arrival. The cottage is nice and cosy Positive: The keys were a bit difficult to find. At the back door but around the side of the wall Negative: There was no information on how to use the heating. It did say there was information in a drawer but it was not there. We found the controls for the TV a bit confusing at first.

Great central location but felt pricey for time of year Positive: Location, easy walking distance from all Barnard Castle tourist sites and facilities. Good kitchen, nice to have seating space in there. Clean and tidy. Negative: Small bedroom bed was very creaky and not very comfy, small bedroom was also very small, OK for a night or two, but any longer probably better suited for a couple and child, rather than 2 couples.

Positive: This accommodation was really nice and comfy. Really liked this property. This is a property that you don't meet the people renting. Collect the key from a safe box. Not a problem for me. Negative: Driving into the accommodation parking was tight . The bathroom window was a skylight an extractor fan would have been easier. Cooker instructions were needed.

A great stay in a lovely cottage. Positive: A really nice cottage, located in the heart of town and yet it was so quiet. Great location to visit the Bowes Museum, Castle and shops. It was perfect for our weekend stay to visit relatives.

Great location and property Positive: Would book again clean and parking is the main reason I booked this place.

Nice clean place exactly as described unlike the extra hidden fees. Shame they couldn't be transparent about this in initial description. Nearly three weeks later and still waiting for a substantial £250 insurance refund or some communication as to why it hasn't been refunded. Extra cleaning fees at check out and an extra £10 random fee. Never had this on any other booking anywhere else. All these extra fees and we still had to chase up a code for entry. Couldn't fault the property, quiet, clean and well equipped.

Ideal location, generally clean but small maintenance issues let it down Positive: The cottage is centrally located in a quiet back street. The town centre is only a short walk away, as is the Bowes Museum, the Castle and the river. Cleaning and the amenities offered, are of a good standard. Host and Stay are very prompt in replying to email queries. Electronic Guide book. Negative: The overall cleanliness is let down by the stairs, living room carpet and rug being dirty and stained. The freezer was still in a largely unusable condition (as per an earlier review). No oven gloves (also as per an earlier review) and the rug in the main bedroom is a trip hazard as the corners curl up. Only 5 mugs and 5 tumblers. The shower – a tepid shower or a warm dribble. There is a security deposit charge which was not mentioned prior to booking. A £5 charge for transacting a security deposit of £200 on a credit card or £25 for deposit insurance - it has to be either or! Too many emails from Host and Stay We did contact Host and Stay while we were on holiday regarding some of the above, who said we did not give them 'enough' time to rectify the issues. Given there had already been ample time for them to put right some of the previously reported issues and they had not done so - how long would be 'enough'?

A comfortable stay in an exceptionally clean and perfectly decorated property... Negative: The area at the back of the property was poorly maintained in comparison to the rest of the cottage it was quite scruffy and in my opinion let the property down.. Despite the cottage having very good facilities being decorated to a high standard the lounge was quite small and I do feel the cost for just 2 nights was rather high...

We loved Wood St Cottage. It's in a great location in centre of Barnard Castle, with the bonus of a parking space. Easy walking distance to the Bowes museum and restaurants. Cozy and tastefully decorated, with a spacious kitchen diner. Cute courtyard garden and the benefit of being able to admire the wonderful flowers in neighbouring garden! Super comfy beds. Would recommend and love to come again.

Very nice house just out of the town, so quiet, but everything is in walking distance. Perfect for what we needed and would recommend.

A beautiful, cosy cottage in a great location! Positive: A beautiful cottage in an excellent location, close to the centre but off a lovely quiet street. Very comfortably furnished and we loved the sunny garden. Definitely recommend a stay here and we'd love to come back! Negative: Please don't stint on loo roll, and it was very cheap quality, plus there was no hand soap in the bathroom so we had to buy our own of both items. The freezer needs defrosting, as you could only open one drawer with some difficulty.

I think not allowed into property until 1600 and having to get out by 10.00 on leaving day, with a few text warnings fro Positive: property was fine. Negative: power cuts a few times, but due to energy supplier to be fair

Nice enough place and very convenient for Barnard Castle and shops. Booking let down by two main factors, additional fees not described prior to booking and access to parking, very narrow road with vans parked making it almost impossible to get past, and parking really only enough for one car not two as advertised. Could have been a little cleaner as well with rubbish under sofa left from previous stay.
