We stayed in this delightful cottage as a family of four in the autumn and thoroughly enjoyed it. The location was perfect for daily hikes and exploring the local area; Matlock Bath, Bakewell and Chatsworth. The communication from the host was great and we found the cottage to be a cosy home from home, with all the amenities you could require for a short break.

We stayed at ‘The White House’ for 2 nights during October half term. A little tricky to find as the W3W location wasn’t accurate and took us too far out of the village, but check-in to the house when we got there was simple. The house itself was beautiful inside. It felt so cosy upon entering and we soon felt right at home. The fire was lit both nights, giving us a real country feel we are not used to at home. As other reviews have stated, there were spiders (and lots of ladybirds!), but that didn’t bother us-it’s an old house in the countryside! Lots of books and games available to use, so we definitely didn’t miss the TV! The Three Stags Head pub nearby has wonderful food. We left the car overnight and walked to retrieve in the morning which took less than 15 mins. Beautiful surroundings with lots of walks nearby, we would definitely stay again if in the area, and would recommend to others. Thank you Host and Stay 😊

What a gem of a find. Everything you need and more. I stayed here with my 2 teenage sons for 2 night break and we loved it. The cottage is immaculate with a wealth of charm. Location is perfect. Hope to book again soon.

This property is exactly what it says it is. Great location and very homely. Communication with Charlie has been amazing. All our questions answered in a great response time. Nothing was a problem and even recommended taxi services. We don’t have anything negative to say about the property. If we were to be really picky there was a quite a few spiders and webs but it’s in the country and to be expected. There is no TV at the property but my partner missed this the most. The games cupboard is a much more positive interaction facility provided. My daughter and I certainly didn’t miss the tv.

Comfortable but needs cleaning Positive: Comfortable and reasonable price. Well equipped kitchen. Negative: Found quite dirty and needed a lot more cleaning on basic surfaces. Kitchen table was dirty and tables in the living room. Empty boxes in the kitchen from cling film etc.

All was ‘all white’, but doubt would stay again as it was also for sale! Positive: Location, detached and small area for free parking. Staff had left us a bottle of wine and crackers. Negative: Needs more attention to detail on the cleaning side of every room.

Perfect peaceful get away! Positive: Cosy, comfortable & perfect for a little get away! Negative: Only the parking was difficult due to overgrown bushes/weeds.

It was an excellent location, but i was really disappointed with the state of the property. Positive: The property was situated in a nice area, easy access to Matlock, Matlock Bath and surrounding areas (Bakewell/Buxton/Chatsworth etc) Negative: The house was very very unclean. There was an infestation of spiders, the cobwebs were every where. Some clearly had not been cleaned away for sometime as they had layers and layers of dust on them. The cutlery/ saucepans we embedded with dirt. the actual kitchen cupboards and cobwebs in them as well. We actually had to clean before we could use anything.

We booked this Airbnb last minute, when our originally planned booking was cancelled, so the host didn’t have much time to prepare, but the flat was incredibly dusty and filled with cobwebs. The location was also very difficult to find, as the three little words location wasn’t correct, but calling the help desk for the postcode was helpful. Otherwise, the flat was really comfortable and also had a lovely little garden that wasn’t shown in the pictures.

The living room furniture is very tired and sofas are dirty, maybe due to the log burning stove. In general the room wasn't inviting to sit in but it did mean we used the lovely private walled garden to sit out in. Upstairs rooms all clean and comfortable. We reported a few minor things such as greasy bakeware and a few spots where more attention was needed to cleanliness so hopefully these will be resolved by hosts. The microwave being one as it has a very rusty patch on the interior of the door. Parking is very helpful and the location is perfect for visiting local walks and attractions. We had a lovely meal at the Square and Compass at the bottom of the hill.

We had high hopes for this place despite reading some negative reviews from previous visitors, as we thought a short two-night stay would be fine. The space itself was adequate for a group of four, but the biggest disappointment was the lack of proper cooking facilities. We had planned to cook during our stay, but the pans were old and unclean, and there was no extractor fan meaning even frying something simple like bacon set off the fire alarm. This made cooking impractical and was frustrating given the price we paid. Cleanliness was also an issue. The sofa appeared dirty, and there was a wet patch on the armrest that had been covered with a blanket. Overall, it did not feel worth the cost, and even paying the optional damage fee seemed unnecessary. Finally, we are quite environmentally conscious, so it was disappointing to find no recycling facilities available. It gave the impression that the property is run primarily for profit, without much consideration for the environment.

Positive: The location, the cottage was lovely, great facilities and clean. Negative: Nothing

Great place but sadly falls below standard Positive: The house was lovely and had good facilities. Beds were comfortable and the bedding was clean. It's in a good location and has free parking. Nice touch having tea bags, milk and a bottle of wine. Also had ground coffee but I would never use an opened bag in a house other people had used. A coffee machine and pods would be more hygienic Negative: I read the reviews about the spiders and thought "how bad could it be?". They were everywhere. I got a face full of web on entering the house and there had to be 5-10 spiders in each room. This is definitely a case of not cleaning regularly/properly. The kitchen floor and skirting boards were filthy and tops of sockets dirty. I sat outside one afternoon with a cuppa to read and was joined by the biggest rat I've ever seen. Good job I hadn't left the back door open. It's a shame as the owners probably pay the cleaning staff a lot of money but for me that really let the accommodation down and I wouldn't return

We had a lovely few days in this comfortable little cottage, which had all the fundamentals covered. Some good walks straight from the front door, though the nearest pub is slightly further than we expected.

GuestAirbnbAug 2025

We had a really lovely stay at the cottage which was beautifully decorated, clean and really well equipped. We'd recommend a walk down the hill to the three stag pub for great food.

Stereotypically Cute Cottage Positive: The house was just such a characteristic cute cottage that you would expect in England. We had a lovely first dinner outside in the courtyard garden. It was just so perfect. Negative: There were a few cobwebs in the house.

Negative: Directions could have been clearer - location sent was 0.5 of mile from cottage at other end of village
