Really lovely stay, could do with some kind of welcome book with local facilities etc Positive: Location, ability to bring my dog Negative: Struggled to reach the top cupboards in the kitchen. No shelf/hooks in the bathroom, no instructions on how to work the heating/hot water

The flat is brilliantly located very close to the beach, spacious and bright. The beds were comfortable and everything was clean, and it was a nice touch to provide a dog water bowl. The listing isn't joking when it says 'minimal' - this applies to everything in the kitchen, and furniture; it could really do with some storage in the bathroom especially, even just a shelf or a few hooks, so it wasn't as comfortable or convenient as we are used to in AirBnB properties. It was fine for a weekend but I wouldn't want to have stayed longer for that reason. One of the saucepans was full of rust and consequently unusable. A scratch-off parking permit was provided, which was really handy as we hadn't noticed the 'paid parking off premises' point in the listing. Noise from other holiday let flats in the building was a bit of an issue - noisy people coming and going in the hallway, and setting off the building fire alarm while we were napping, supposedly by having too steamy a shower.

We stayed for 2 nights with our baby and dogs. We all had a lovely time, great location, easy access to the property and no issue during stay. Thanks a lot :)

Perfect location to get around Whitby on foot. We were able to park right outside and appreciated the guest parking permit. Other reviews were accurate in terms of the rooms needing a bit of a refresh of paint, TLC, extra cups etc. but we found the flat to be clean and had everything we needed for a couple of nights when we mostly needed a space to sleep and base to visit family. The space is nice and bright, beds were comfortable and the heating warmed up quickly.

This was a lovely three day break in Whitby. The accommodation was ideal for what we needed. Comfortable, spacious, and it had what we needed for the time we were there. Ideal for kids and families as it’s right next to the beach and main centre, but also quiet. Parking is a nightmare! We were promised a couple of free parking passes on arrival but this wasn’t the case. It took a couple of hours to sort that out and find parking before we were able to settle. Something we could have done without after a long journey. It was eventually sorted. We also discovered the following day that there was no hot water either, but managed to find the emersion heater.. but it didn’t warm up until the following day! Cold showers for the day unfortunately. And although we didn’t need it, the apartment didn’t have a freezer, just for people to note for anybody who is looking to stay for any longer than us. Apart from these minor points, a nice location and ample place to stay for a short family break

Total value for money. The beach was 4 mins walk. Positive: The Property was exactly as in the photos. The location was excellent. The area was quite and peaceful. Negative: The cooking utensils were rusted not fit for cooking .1 Toilet tissue roll and garbage bag was provided for 3 days stay. The checking instruction was difficult to understand . It was mentioned 1,9 could not understand which was the flat number and which was room number.

Good location but that's about it. Positive: Great location, right near the top of West Cliff. I was doing a few days walking and this place is right on the Cleveland Way and just above the harbour. Negative: Other than the location the property was only ok. I'm not a picky traveller at all but there were a few issues that bothered me. The first is a general issue with Host and Stay who only communicate with you after you've confirmed your booking that you need to be "verified" and that they're going to either take a 250 pound, refundable bond - with a non-refundable 10 pound service charge - out of your account, or charge you 25 pounds to cover you for 500 pounds worth of damage. If you're only staying one night, then this increases the per night rate considerably and assumes that you're going to damage something. Also, in this case, the property was pretty grubby when I arrived. The coffee table hasn't been cleaned in years and anything laid on it stuck immediately. Makes you suspect that the rest of the cleaning has been the same. No dishwashing liquid. One coffee pod. Just overall got the impression that the owners weren't that bothered. I won't be using Host and Stay again.

Positive: Tolle Lage sowohl zum Strand als auch zur Stadmitte. Schöne helle Wohnung. Negative: In einem Schlafzimmer gingen die Fenster nicht öffnen. Für eine bessere Bewertung hätte ich mir im Bad und den Zimmern mehr Stauraum/ Ablagefläche gewünscht. Die Töpfe in der Küche waren rostig.

Good location but could go with a few home touches Positive: Location good if you could get parked on. Bit of juggling required as we arrived at 10am but couldn’t get in to the apartment until 4pm to collect the parking voucher which allowed us to park in zone W Negative: I don’t know how other guests coped in the recent hot weather but we couldn’t open any of the windows snd the bedroom was really hot during the night. There didn’t appear to be any keys to unlock the windows and there was no welcome booklet to explain how the appliances worked. Not being very ‘techie’ I wasn’t sure if the heaters also doubled up as air con but didn’t want to mess with them. There was no washing up liquid but they had left 2 dishwasher tablets but they didn’t have a dishwasher!

In a great location, well equipped, good communication with host. Couple of double lamps where 1 bulb was out & notified host who will rectify prior next occupant. Easy to get parked close to the property with added bonus of a free parking card for the duration of the stay The settee in the lounge would benefit from a clean as stains on the seat cushion . Would stay there again when visiting Whitby

Lovely place well worth booking. Positive: Lovey space and location for Whitby. So close to everything. We had everything we needed for our stay. Negative: Parking was difficult. I ended up paying around £20 to park else where. The hot water didn’t work on day two. I think there is a hot water tank but it wasn’t turned on.

Enjoyed it overall, but wouldn’t stay here again Positive: It was a great location Negative: It wasn’t clean and it’s in desperate need of freshening up. The hot water also kept cutting off.

The apartment is tired and needs some TLC but also New cleaners !. We could tell that host n stay out source the cleaning as the inside of the kitchen cupboard had grease and crumb residue, Pans were Rusty and not fit to cook in, cups and glasses we had to wash before using and the oven had dried on food & grease which II wasn't touching. We went self catering for a reason. As mentioned the shower was dirty . The positives were ,beds were clean and the position was good as we enjoyed the walk up the hill. whitby is great with lots to see and do but we wouldn't stop here or with Host n stay again as they didn't resolve the problems even after promising it would be a priority again this could be because of outsourcing the cleaning ?. We did manage to have a lovely stay for our anniversary despite this and Im hoping that the person who owns this is able to read it (as they aren't always aware of how things are run by agency's) and improve what could be a treasure.

Relaxing stay would stay again Positive: The location is great for the beach, dog walks and the pub. Negative: It’s was uncomfortable in the main, we had a problem with hot water which was sorted eventually.

Lovely apartment and very spacious. We stayed for a weekend and loved that we could bring our dog along. You also have a sea view which is lovely to watch the sunset and sunrise. The area was perfect and so convenient to go to the beach with the dog or walk down into the town. I also loved that Clara’s coffee shop was just a 30 second walk to go and get a morning coffee too. The hosts are very informative and give clear instructions and stay in touch from the moment of booking. Thank you we will definitely be back.

A lovely apartment. Free parking right outside. Would definitely recommend. Location is perfect and really good coffee at the end of the road over looking the sea. Had a few hitches at check in but that was my fault and then couldn’t find immersion heater but that’s in the cupboard in the front room. Really loved it stay. Host was in touch by messages ensuring everything was ok. Would definitely come back. Thanks for a great stay.

Lovely little apartment, easy to get the all the main places in Whitby and was affordable!

We had a lovely mini break, the apartment was in a great spot to walk into Whitby or go to the beach. The rooms were clean and just right for the length of our stay. I was very impressed with the crisp clean bedding and towels.

The location was great. However the property needs some TLC - ironic as their only concern at booking was to insist on paying additional damage waivers via their 3rd party management site (or you don’t get key instructions - paid this through Airbnb resolution page instead, they can’t argue and your personal data remains secure) The property is shared access - not a problem usually only on arrival it looked like a crack den - litter, door ajar and could barely get in for the mountain of unopened post behind the door. The letter box and lock itself had clearly been broken off at times. There were contradicting signs inside asking to keep door closed/open. Clearly an issue - unnerving start. Once in, our premises had no deadlock, chain or spyhole. Any smackhead could easily force the door. I put a chair behind it at night. Not enough characters to continue here. Management co actually need to visit and tidy this place up - could be lovely. Videos available. Location was good.

Enjoyable stay, suited our purposes as a base to sleep. Great location to facilities. Positive: Location was good... near to the beaches, town centre and other facilities. Apartment was clean and tidy and was comfortable for our short stay. Electrical heaters were available if it got too cold and hot water available when we wanted it. Good facilities for cooking etc. Parking permits included. This was an enjoyable stay... we were taking part in the events of the literary festival. We love staying in Whitby and have stayed a number of times in different properties that you run. Negative: Even though this apartment was for 4, there were only 3 cups, glasses etc. The two rope chairs were not fit for purpose and one was so badly damaged it could not be used... we used neither! I sat on a dining chair. We went out for our meals as there were only two chairs to fit around the table... we wouldn't have been able to eat together. The living room would benefit for a coat of paint in your off season. Despite this I would not hesitate to use your company again. We have stayed in other apartments in your portfolio and have been highly satisfied.

We paid for early check in but when we arrived no parking pass in the property. It’s a nightmare parking around the area and we’d got a space so didn’t want to move the car. You get 3 hours free without a permit but we wanted to unpack and head out for the more than 3 hours. Contacted the hosts and they were very quick to respond but took hour and a half for it to be delivered. Just not ideal when you pay extra. The property should be checked for permits when cleaning. Some of the dishes were dirty in the kitchen but the rest of the place was fine. No hot water on the first night but contacted the hosts and told to check immersion switch which we did and by Saturday morning was ok but then by night it was off and again Sunday was cold showers and boiling kettle for the dishes. The location was great, beds comfortable, not enough seating for 4 at dinner, hosts very responsive but took too long to sort permit and we wasted time and no hot water. Wouldn’t stay again.

Ok, could’ve been better if we had not had the original accommodation cancelled when we arrived! Positive: Location was ok. Negative: Supposed to sleep 4 but only two dining chairs! No freezer compartment, no shelf over the bathroom sink for toiletries.

Excellent location. property could do with a deep clean. Fridge and inside the kitchen drawers were dirty. Public entrance Very tired. Loved being able to download the guide book. Very handy. We have stayed in Host and Stay properties before. Altough we've had better we still had a pleasant stay .

2 bed flat Whitby Positive: Ideal location. Clean. Contents adequate. Negative: Loads of little flies in flat and entrance hall to building. Coffee machine leaked badly. Pans need replacing. Minimal crockery. Hot water took a long time to come through and only enough for one decent shower.

Positive: Good placement comfy bed Negative: Needs a deep clean,fridge shelf broken,bin broken,casserole dish cracked,pans rusty if you read reviews seem to have been like this for a number of years and nothing has been done !!! Looks like the shower is leaking as the lino in the bathroom has big dark spots I did message booking.com about the pans and they said they'd try sort it obviously rusty pans are still there so I was limited to what I could cook i could only use the oven I paid over £500 for a 4 night stay waste of money Windows dont open very well either Maybe the owners are unaware of the issues or just dont care Cups and cutlery stained too

Very sad that these property agents have such low standards. Positive: Location as expected Negative: 2 out of 4 heaters not working. Portable electric heater smoked and was removed. Flat for 4 but not enough plates. One wine glass and 2 flutes only. 2nd set of door keys didn’t work. Not enough space to continue!

like previous reviews. only one toilet roll provided for three guests over two nights. Dish Washing Liquid was not provided, yet there were two dishwasher tablets provided but no dishwasher?? it's a pity there are no shelving units, towel racks or robe hooks provided in the bathroom or shower cubicle.

Decent little place, enough for a couple days away

Place was lovely & clean. Spacious. Beds very comfy. Short walk to the sea front. Everything we needed for a short break. Had no issues with parking. Scratch card worked great. There was no washing up liquid but dishwasher tablets, but no dishwasher. We had a problem with the hot water. Hadn’t realised the immersion was not switched on & then when we thought it was in found there were 2 other switches below. Only writing this so it helps future guests. Good, timely & helpful responses from owner.

A few minor things but otherwise really good! Positive: The apartment was lovely! Spacious and the shower was great. Fantastic location. I would recommend it! Negative: Getting the right code for the key box would have been useful. I waited over an hour for someone to get back to me. The oven hadn't been cleaned since I don't know when and smelt of dead pig. Only one toilet roll for 4 nights? The electric radiator in the cupboard is a fire hazard. It smokes... I mean seriously smokes.

Great location Positive: Great location; by the beach and within walking distance from all the attractions, restaurants and bars. Negative: Few little improvements could make this apartment 5 stars.

Awful This was not the property we booked to stay in but due to an agent's admin error we were booked in here. We were asked to pay 2 different accidental damage waiver fees and spent hours on the phone trying to sort this out, we eventually got a refund for one of them. Communication with Host and Stay and VRBO was poor, we kept getting passed from one person to another and were often put on hold or the line went dead. The double beds were against a wall which meant climbing over each other to get in and out of bed. The TV did not have normal channels such as ITV, BBC etc so I guess the property owner did not have a TV licence. The pans were dirty and unusable, the table was too small and did not have enough chairs for 4 people. The sofa was uncomfortable and the 2 basket type chairs were damaged and falling apart. The shower did not have a grab rail or non-slip mat. There were no cupboards, drawers or shelves to put anything in, you had to put your clothes on the floor when you went to bed. The front entrance door was insecure and often left open by guests in the other flats. The location was OK as it was only a short walk into Whitby town centre.

Mould in bathroom. Very cold. Tv weird channels- crime, horror, animated cartoons. Pans burned food ground into them and plates, mugs very badly stained. Parking nightmare in that area too, all permits only other than seafront where £3.60 for 2 hours. To top it all bad storm on day we arrived- big leak appeared in two rooms on ceiling and wall. Positive: The location and general design of the apartment. Negative: We never got the promised scratch card for parking nearby even after repeatedly asking for it. The front door key did not work. Hot water was not available. The contact person at Host Stay kept promising to solve the issues but nothing happened. We spent considerable effort re parking the car and were less able to relax.

Excellent location, clean and well presented. Parking permits supplied which made parking much less stressful. Communication in advance of and during the trip was excellent! Some essentials were not provided very generously - could only locate one toilet roll and a tiny amount of washing up liquid. We had to buy our own washing up liquid and scourers. Couldn't locate cleaning spray to clean the kitchen after cooking. Overall pretty happy!

Brilliant Positive: Location was great close to all amenities great for shops pubs and restaurants fish shop. Negative: I didn't like having to leave the front door unlocked as we were on the first floor but the key we were given didn't work in the lock

Parking permits where not left as they where stated to be on the website so we had to pay to park after waiting for 3 hours for them to turn up as promosed after 2 phone calls to booking.com

Disappointing. Positive: Good location for the town. Negative: No parking permit left so we had to pay to park the first night. Nobody was bothered about sorting this issue and have still not been reimbursed for it. So many letters behind front door we had trouble getting in. Not a great cleaning job done throughout. Shower only had hot water once all week. Felt very much like converted student digs.

Positive: I liked the location, I really like the apartment. Had a great stay would definitely come back. Negative: The sofa was a little uncomfortable. But apart from that everything else was fine.

The lock doesn't work properly. And there's hair on the pillows. The boiler is switched off,and I didn't know it takes time to heat up for hot water.

Positive: Very nice apartment, open plan and spacious. Two decent sized bedrooms spaced well apart. Negative: Being hit for insurance 9 days before arrival. This should have been mentioned when paying for apartment months earlier.

We had a lovely stay for a nearby event. Positive: I received an email giving the location of the lock box, the code and a telephone number if needed. It was easy to access the property after a couple of attempts to open the box.

Dirty, insecure property. Would not return Positive: The location Negative: No parking pass left. When raised with the company, 20 minutes on the phone, received a message the following day at 11am to say left in lock box, but parking is free after 6pm so it didn’t matter. (No apology) The property was filthy. Cooking utensils and equipment were unusable. Dishwasher tablets left (with no dishwasher) The shower grout was black. You have to walk into the shower to turn on. Took around 30 minutes to heat up. The lock to the front door was used by guests in other properties. Was locked out at one point during the stay. Some times the lock was left open. The property felt really insecure, particularly as a ground floor property. Have submitted a complaint (will respond in 7-10 days)

Loved the location, bedrooms a little smaller than expected and a freezer box in the fridge would be helpful as couldn’t make ice for our drinks! Would still highly recommend though!

West cliff view Positive: Position and decor were lovely. Negative: No light bulbs in bedlamps. No hooks, shelves, antislip mat in bathroom. No small hand or face towels. No washing up liquid or pan scrub (dirty cups in cupboard). Not enough loo roll for our short stay. Not enough dining chairs. Not enough storage for clothes. No icebox in fridge. As it was cold the heaters needed to be on and did not come on as mentioned in the guide. I had to sit on the floor and mess for ages to get them to work. One I just couldn't get on. Dusty areas under sofa and beds, in corners and blinds really dusty. No battery in clock (mum with dementia commented constantly about it being 10 o'clock) Difficult to locate keyboard which took 5 attempts to openas i think the buttonsare worn (i use same type on my aunts house). If I had been paid £60 to clean that apartment (as was stated) it would be immaculate. So that aspect was very poor value.
