A cosy cottage for a weekend get away. It’s a short drive to Bakewell and the Greyhound pub is across the street. We enjoyed a lovely weekend with the dog who loved the log fire. We managed to get an estate and a SUV parked outside (albeit tight but they both fit). Great value for money.

Thank you for a wonderful stay, the place is really great, the place creates a wonderful atmosphere, we felt like we wer Positive: Thank you for a wonderful stay, the place is really great, the place creates a wonderful atmosphere, we felt like we were in the 16th or 17th century because the house makes such an impression. It's a perfect place for exploring the area and walking the dog. The owner is a nice guy, helpful and explained everything where and what to see. I recommend this place and wish others a nice stay as well... Adam

I am familiar with the area so was aware the property was just off a main road. I was surprised how quiet the bedrooms were although the downstairs is a little more noisy. The cottage is full of character!! And very cosy! Secure area for dogs to toilet but no garden.....but fully aware of this pre booking.

The property is really well looked after and is in a position to easily access the local pub and surrounding areas Positive: Really lovely, clean and nicely decorated . Owner lives next door and was very friendly . Negative: Position near road , very noisy, not enough safe, outside space for dogs. And windows were painted shut so unable to open .

Lovely location as easy access for Ashover and Woolly Moor. Lovely having the option to bring the dogs at no additional Positive: Beautifully decorated and very clean. Cosy and just what we were looking for ⭐️ Negative: Nothing

Quaint cottage not for pets or mobility issues Positive: Beautiful cottage, well presented and opposite a fabulous pub, the Greyhound, who were very helpful and friendly. Perfect for young couples with no pets, children or mobility issues. Negative: The original instructions received via booking.com with a map location did not direct us correctly and we had to call the Host and Stay phone number listed to get more precise instructions. For a so called 'dog friendly cottage' we were put off when first stepping into the cottage to see a sign limiting the dog to downstairs. We have a non allergenic SEN dog and highly allergic family members. It was obvious that pets had previously been upstairs and not cleaned well as we struggled with our allergies. Lesson learned for booking a dog friendly cottage on our side. Due to the cottage being on the main A61 road to Chesterfield the traffic noise was horrific, especially at night, and I had to sleep downstairs on the sofa with the dog in his bed. We were disappointed 😞 by our stay as we were looking forward to staying in a quaint old cottage like we used to own. For the location it needs better sound insulation/secondary glazing. Take earplugs! Not recommended for pet owners or anyone slightly immobile. On one recommendation to the cottage owner - we have stayed in cottages/rentals all around the world - adding that extra bit like handsoap in the bathroom, a set of extra bedding in case its needed, and better communication, could make a huge difference. Be honest about pet rules in terms and conditions/information when booking, as well as mention the narrow stairs and high sided bath/shower..

The property was lovely but unfortunately it was on a main road! Positive: Cottage was lovely.beds were extremely comfy.bathroom was spotless.lounge was cosy and kitchen was big& a place we spent most of our time. Negative: The stairs were extremely narrow and even though they had handrails on either side it was difficult for my parents to get up& down. The gate needed chicken wire or something to stop small dogs getting under however when I spoke to the owner it was already on his list to do! It’s a pity it wasn’t already done as the garden area was lovely with seating area and bbq& we couldn’t make use of it!

We didn’t stay in the end. We had to find alternative accommodation due to it not being adequate for our needs Positive: Looked good on paper Negative: Exaggerated photos and didn’t have private outdoor space which I would say is essential when taking children and dogs with you. Stairs very steep and small treads which make it quite tricky when carrying and baby or toddler up and down them.

We had a great family break at Well Farm Cottage, a real home from home with everything we needed… We visited Belper, The Great British Car Journey, Matlock Bath and walked in the Amber Valley with our dogs Ollie and Oscar. There are supermarkets nearby, Aldi, Tesco in Clay Cross and the same plus Lidl in Alfreton just a short drive away. The Fat Panda was a great Chinese takeaway… We also visited the Horse and Jockey pub in Washington for a meal out, very friendly, welcoming staff. A real privilege to stay at this wonderful property, we’d love to come back. Thank you.

Excellent location, beautiful cottage Positive: We stayed at Well Farm Cottage as we were attending a wedding at Stretton Manor Barn. The cottage is superb - very comfortable, clean & has everything you could want/ need. There are some beautiful walks with amazing views straight from the cottage and a lovely pub across the road, serving great food. The host was excellent - very helpful and kind. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cottage to anyone either visiting the area (Matlock/ Chatsworth close by), or going to a wedding at Stretton Manor Barn. We would love to stay again and spend more time walking with our dogs. Thank you!

Beautiful Positive: The property was well equipped comfortable and exceptionally clean and the outside exterior is stunning to look at Negative: The property is situated on a very busy road with heavy traffic flow especially lorry's due to the age of the property there is no double glazing so can be very noisey but you do get used to it, also even tho the property accomadates up to 5 people there is only seating in the lounge for 4 and also at the kitchen table in addition the stair to the upper level are very steep almost vertical and while this is part of the original structure of the property which is 15th century and is quirky being not advertised on the discription may well lead to difficulties for some one with mobility issues

Lovely accomodation. Perfect for our girls weekend away. The accomodation was clean and warm. The host went out of his way to make sure we felt comfortable and enjoyed our stay. Would highly recommend. We hope to return next year :)

Dan was great to talk to and very helpful. Perfect place with no issues and a great pub opposite. Positive: Location was very good for us on our motorbikes and I picked it for the good secure and safe bike parking, which turned out as hoped. The cottage is very nice. Beds were comfy. Good cosy feel to the place. Shower was hot and good pressure. There is a fine pub opposite with decent food and good beer. The breakfast starting at 9a.m. was a bonus and enormous for around a tenner. Negative: It did not bother us, as still mobile and fit, but I think it should be mentioned that the stairs are the steepest I have ever had the pleasure to climb! They would be very difficult for older people etc.

We enjoyed our lovely brief stay for 3 nights. Dan our host was very helpful in directions & helped with any accommodation issues. He also directed us to a public path that leads down to the railway bridge, much fun waving to the train drivers at approximately 6:45pm onwards. Great walk for a dogs. The let is a beautiful cottage & it accommodated us & my cousin who has health issues. However, I will mention the stairs are steep which was a bit of a struggle for anyone with has problems. We went and had a lovely pub meal & brewery ales at The Poets Corner in Ashover, nearby. Recommended by Dan & it didn’t fail if you like old fashion country pubs & don’t forget to take the dog!!

An excellent base from which we could explore our ancestral connections to Derbyshire. Positive: Good location. Very good pub just across the road. The property was very well equipped. The kitchen had everything that we needed. Negative: The property was close to a main road.

Our second stay here as a family with our two spaniels. A real home from home and great base for a weekend getaway. We enjoyed morning walks in the fields of the Amber Valley with our spaniels and day trip up to Matlock Bath. Close to shops and amenities (short drive to Clay Cross or Alfreton). Thankyou for another great stay 🙂

A lovely cottage, in beautiful surroundings. The owner was extremely helpful with advice about the area and Derby. Thanks

GuestAirbnbMay 2026

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It was beautifully appointed , the kitchen is very well equipped the bathroom was spotless. Great location for so many lovely villages and towns. We easily found our way round the beautiful local area. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the cottage, who lives next door, and he certainly made us feel extremely welcome. He had good knowledge about the area, good recommendations from him about what to do and where to go. We have never stayed at an Airbnb before where we have felt so comfortable and well received. He’s is an absolute gem .

GuestAirbnbApr 2026

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful cottage in Higham, Derby. It was spotlessly clean, cosy and very comfortable, with thoughtful essentials like washing-up liquid, hand wash and toilet roll provided. The bedding and towels were immaculate. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, sharing helpful local tips. A highlight was the breathtaking valley behind the cottage, where the kids loved waving at passing trains and hearing them beep back — such a special memory. The cottage is very family-friendly. Although the stairs are steep, the stair gate and secure doors at both top and bottom made us feel safe, and our little ones managed well. Perfect base for exploring Derby we had great day at Chatsworth House and Bakewell. Also, a supermarket nearby and a lovely pub opposite serving good food. A peaceful, charming place we’d happily return to and highly recommend. Thanks for a wonderful holiday!

A lovely family week away - the dogs loved the access to rolling hills and surrounding countryside and the humans enjoyed the cottage and having a pub in walking distance! It worked really well as a base for long walks as well. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you

A beautiful little place… as the other reviews mentioned you do hear traffic but it’s really not offensive in anyway. Pub across the road was perfect for our first night for dinner (food quality was actually very good) and the house is 30 mins drive from prettt anywhere you would want to be in terms of walks hikes etc. The overall stay was simply perfect for what we wanted.

GuestAirbnbDec 2025

The property was lovely and clean and exactly as described. The host was very helpful during our short stay providing extra wood when asked. Lovely part of the world with stunning walks close by. Thank you.

Great house, had everything we needed. Good if you're driving around to explore the area. Nice pub in walking distance.

SharonBooking.comNov 2025

Lovely stay and very welcoming by the owner who lives next door. Positive: Lovely cosy and warm cottage Negative: The stairs but that was also part of the quirkiness of the place too being the original staircase. We navigated it well but if there was some less able or older people in could be a problem.

GuestAirbnbNov 2025

Easy to find, however the traffic at night was extremely loud with big Lorrie’s driving through at speed.

GuestAirbnbOct 2025

Host Danny was a really nice guy, very helpful. Lovely cosy cottage, good location.

GuestAirbnbOct 2025

The bnb photos are carefully imagined, especially the stairwell & not having a downstairs toilet highlights this even more. The place hasnt been occupied fer some time and you could easily tell with the dark & cold environment when entering. The location is close to a busy road, so getting in/out safely is quite the task. We incurred issue after issue in the place & the 'Host & Stay' management were unable to help & thats being polite. We left within an hour of weighing up the issues, despite the owner next door arriving home next door. This place is a summer only accommodation and the stairs are like climbing the Eiger, even more frightening in descent...look elsewhere

GuestAirbnbOct 2025

Our stay was amazing. We booked last minute and was such a beautiful house. Very relaxing, very clean and everything we needed. Even though it’s on a main road you can’t hear traffic all night. We would definitely come and stay there again. We really enjoyed it and enjoyed the beautiful scenic walks close by. Just what we needed that weekend and the open fire was so cosy. Close to shops and restaurants. Thank you for having us and we look forward to returning

A comfortable, charming and cosy stay. Positive: The location was great for visiting Chatsworth. Charlie our host was very friendly and willing to help. There was a well equipped kitchen and the cottage was in walking distance of a lovely pub with great food. Negative: The busy road near the cottage.

A very last minute booking due to being let down, and such a fantastic response from the host. We were lucky to find this place available and it did not disappoint. The cottage is delightful and beautifully appointed. Comfy Beds, spotlessly clean, exactly what we were looking for. Supermarkets, village pub, takeaways all very close. The owner was on hand for any queries and was knowledgeable about the local area, giving us directions to admire (or walk) in the valley behind. A fantastic few days in a lovely home from home.

Beautiful cottage in an ideal location. Positive: The cottage was warm, inviting and comfortable. Easy to get to Matlock, Bakewell and surrounding areas. If you did not have a car there is a bus stop close to the property. The local pub served good food, it looked like it was always busy. Behind the property was a gate that took you along a path where you could see some amazing views. We booked last minute and stayed Thursday to Sunday but wished we had stayed longer. I am sure we will be back but will plan our time better on our next visit to take in more of the surroundings

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The location was lovely and cottage was warm and cosy. We did have a few problems like not being given the code for the key box. Overall though, we loved our stay and the cottage was mostly very clean. Thank you!
