We had an amazing stay here! Dave was so lovely, he met us when we arrived and showed us around the house and shared all the amazing history! The house was perfect for a big group of us, and it was in the perfect location to explore Knaresborough!

GuestAirbnbOct 2025

Overall one of the best air bnb stays ever. The majestic nature and historical value of this diligently restored home is something we will cherish in our memory. The 7 of us who stayed couldn’t find one fault between us. Highly recommended and very much worth every penny!

Quirky and spacious house. Really great space to relax. Very comfy. Friendly and helpful host. Dealt quickly with a dripping tap. Knaresborough lovely place, lots to do with plenty of pubs and restaurants. Quick journey by train to Harrogate. Walks in the Nidd Gorge and to Brimham Tocks from Pateley Bridge were great.

A wonderful stay for our family of five (with three small kids). The house is absolutely full of history and charm, almost regal! It has a great layout with plenty of space to relax, dine and unwind. The location is perfect! It’s just five minutes from town with really easy access to York, Leeds and Harrogate by train. There’s also a friendly dog, Leo, on site , whom our kids loved. Dave and his family are lovely and super helpful. Easy to recommend.

This is a unique historic property. It was beautiful and it worked very well for our extended family visit. Dave, the owner, was very helpful and very kind. We loved staying here and we’ll look for a reason to stay again.

Lovely house within easy walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and short drive to attractions such as Knaresborough Castle and the famous Viaduct over the River Nidd.Easy drive to nearby towns such as Thirsk, Ripon, York, and Harrogate. The house was very spacious for our group of 5 with a large kitchen, 2 separate sitting areas, and updated bathrooms, 2 with extra roomy bathtubs. The beds were very comfortable as well. There is a beautiful rose garden in back and a side garden. A bonus was Leo the dog greeting us every day, and Dave the landlord next door who gave us a fascinating history of the house, and tips on local places to see and things to do.A total 5 star experience!

Very spacious and comfortable property - ideal for the family get-together we had - private parking for 2 cars a bonus - central location but very quiet at night-time - full of character with furnishings and decoration and Dave explained the history of the building as a family home

Lovely old fashioned house with décor in keeping with its old fashioned ambiance. Actually larger than expected, unlike lots of places that are smaller than they look on the photographs. In a good position for walking around Knaresborough.

Lovely accommodation, with great amount of space and comfy beds. Overall we had a great stay and would recommend the accommodation. Communication with host and stay was poor - it seems to give a generic AI response to queries. We had a couple of minor issues - requested to check in an hour earlier as have a baby and left a coffee flask at accommodation. Host and stay were unable to help but on direct contact with Dave - who I thinks own the house for which host and stay are contracted to manage - he was able to find this flask to facilitate collection. There is also a dog that we think is owned by Dave who is very friendly but when arriving in the dark is a bit concerning with babies and we were concerned he may escape when we entered the driveway - some warning about the dog would have been helpful !

Positive: We were met with warm welcome, and guided tour of the house with it's historic memories. The house is in its own grounds and parking for 2 cars, this is because room is need for the other accommodation that owner let's out. Each room is decorated to a high standard, bedrooms are large and airy. The location is very central for shops and restaurants, the railway station is only a short distance away. The kitchen is well equipped, the thing we would make comment on is for the lack of bowls for cereal. We were greeted with a gracious reception and a guided exploration of the dwelling, replete with its historical recollections. The residence is situated within its own grounds, offering parking for two vehicles; this is due to the space required for other accommodations the proprietor rents. Each room is adorned to an exemplary standard, with the bedrooms being expansive. Its situation is highly central, convenient for retail outlets and eateries, and the railway station is a brief distance away. The kitchen area is comprehensively furnished; our sole observation would bowls for breakfast cereals. We highly recommend this lovely property. Negative: Nothing not to like.

A beautiful house in the middle of a lovely town. Positive: The house was beautifully furnished, it was in a great location and every need was catered for. Negative: Nothing.

Positive: Beautiful Victorian house furnished in the same style. Highly recommend. Negative: There is room for at least 6 cars but only allow 2, don't understand why? All the crockery in the kitchen needs updating, 4 bedrooms 8 people only 3 cereal bowls, food left from other guests way out of date and needs throwing.

Fantastic house. Would definitely stay there again and recommend. Positive: The house was amazing. Exceptionally clean and well maintained. The host met us on arrival and gave us a guided tour of the very historic and interesting house. Helpful noticeboard with local takeaway & restaurant menus. Negative: Just a few minor niggles with how well the kitchen was equipped. But we were able to work around it.

Positive: The owner was kind and accommodating. The house was larger than expected and immaculate. Negative: There were bowls in the kitchen, but it had everything else.

Thorneville House is a fabulously decorated and furnished home. We really appreciated the two en-suite bathrooms and the third shower room which was very convenient for the other two bedrooms. The kitchen was large and well equipped with a large table with six chairs. The dining room was adjacent to the kitchen and had a serving hatch. A lovely room for eating dinner. The middle lounge was my favourite with two very comfortable Chesterfield settees. The other lounge had a large smart TV. The house is very well situated near the centre of Knaresborough. Dave and his wife are lovely people and make you feel very welcome.

Dave and Leo were great hosts. I will recommend Thornville to my friends and family. Loved the experience!

GuestAirbnbMay 2026

We had a fantastic stay, so thanks to Dave and his partner. The house was exactly as described; beautiful, spotlessly clean, and very welcoming from the moment we arrived. You can tell they really care about their guests and take real pride in the property. The location, comfort, and overall atmosphere made for a brilliant stay, and we wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend it to others. Just one small point of feedback, and only meant as helpful advice for their future guests. This is the first Airbnb I’ve stayed in that didn’t have a small ingredients cupboard with basics like herbs, spices, cooking oil, dry pasta, all left behind by previous guests, which is always really helpful when cooking simple meals. We ended up having to buy a full bottle of oil when only needing a drizzle. Not a major issue at all, but something that could make an already excellent stay even better. Overall though, a superb Airbnb with wonderful hosts. Best wishes to them both.

We had a lovely few days really impressed with the communication before and during the stay. Lovely house and great location.

No.12 was the perfect location for our family get together. The house was spacious, in a beautiful setting and had plenty of amenities. The host was very friendly, welcoming and a wealth of knowledge about the house and the area - recommending some great pubs. We were a big family group so the four double bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, dining room and 2 lounges were perfect. Would highly recommend for a comfortable, relaxing break!

An impressive house in a great location Positive: The location was perfect for exploring the area, with plenty to see nearby as well as longer walks. The town itself is nice, although showing some signs of decline in places. There are plenty of pubs left though, serving interesting and varied beers in a great atmosphere. The house was impressive but cosy, with lots of history behind it. Dave explained the history of the house and some of the contents. Everything was spotless, and the facilities were well maintained. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Ideal stay for adult group. Short walk into Knaresborough and a very handy supermarket 5 mins walk away. House is large with tall ceilings and a feeling of space. All the rooms are sun traps in the morning - beautiful. Very clean and lovely thick, white towels. Having available parking for 2 cars behind gates is great; the house is situated on a small residential lane where parking could be an issue otherwise. I hasten to say though that it is very peaceful. Dave, the owner, is very friendly and on site if you need anything. We had a lovely stay.

First the good things. The house was beautifully kept and very clean inside. It was perfect for us to all get together abs had plenty of space. It was a short walk to town so perfectly located for us. The beds were comfortable, and the house warm. There were books and TVs for entertainment if needed. The host was easy to contact and was happy for us to leave our car at the house after check out so we could explore for a bit longer. Outside I’d say only one parking space is usable, I wouldn’t have wanted to try and park on the other one. The outside grounds were marred by the piles of dog poo which were visible from the kitchen window, I would recommend these are cleared up regularly. There were also random tin cans on the lawn. On the subject of the dog, we all were dog lovers but it could have been ofd putting for a large Labrador to run up to a non-dog lover or child. Luckily he was very friendly with us all. Whilst we did have everything we needed, sets of glasses and crockery would have been useful, we felt a bit worried about using the posh ones from the dining room. I also felt a book of instructions would have been helpful for appliances etc., the online guidebook has the incorrect WiFi information. Some of the decor is quirky and some really reminded me of items my parents had. I would have liked an earlier check in and later check out as an option but I could see that the house was very big and cleaned to a high standard.

We stayed as a group of 6 friend's and this was a central location for us all. The house is beautiful with plenty of space. Each room is full of antiques which are so in keeping with the period of the house as well as all the mod cons. The kitchen is well equipped for large groups/families. Two of the

It was such a big, beautiful and clean house. The vibe of staying in an old English home but equipped with all the necessary utilities. Very very comfortable and feels homely.\n\nA large private parking place. Very friendly neighbour with adorable dog.\n\nPrivate neighborhood but just a walk away to stores and others.
