Our stay at The Whitby Pearl was fantastic. The communication from the host was excellent in the run up to our stay, which made things so easy. The apartment was lovely and exactly as described. It had everything we needed for our trip. It was really clean and fresh looking. The pay and display parking to the rear of the building was free as we stayed during February, but disc cards were left should we have needed them. The apartment is in a great spot, close to the centre (about a 10 minute walk, if that). Being right by the West Cliff beach suited us well too. It was brilliant for rockpooling and fossil hunting with the kids. We would happily stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay in Whitby. The location of the apartment was great, with easy access to walking routes, beach and cafes etc. The space was cosy and comfortable for our needs (although fridge/freezer is small.) We were a bit disappointed with communication about parking. In the property description, the house guide pdf and in individual messages sent on Airbnb, a parking scratch card was confirmed. On arrival, it wasn’t there. I found someone to speak to quickly, but was told there wasn’t a scratch card and needed to move car. A bit stressful on evening of arrival, with a small child! Found free parking in the end (due to time of year), but would advise owners to revise the info they give on this topic.

Should have been great but some poor service and the door lock were a real concern Positive: Good location Negative: Bathroom sink was very small - would have been easier to use if only a mirror above it, not a shelf - maybe put small shelves next to the shower Only one toilet roll, nothing in the cupboards to make us feel welcome - usually there's a bit of tin foil, washing powder, welcome pack...... There was an error with the parking permit where we only had 4 days of permit for an 8 day stay. This took endless communication over 5 days to resolve - we gave up on day 5 having followed their instructions to remedy the situation, to no avail - only to find a pass had been placed in the lock box on the Thursday or Friday at the end of our stay - with no communication to confirm that this had happened. As a result we had to pay 4 days of long stay parking - not great! By the end of our communication it was apparent that we were talking to AI as words like 'parking pass' were not understood. Re health and safety: the carpet on second stairs from the flat is coming loose. Also, we discovered that if you lock the flat door using the key anyone inside cannot open the door! (some of our party went to bed early while others went out for a walk, locking the door behind them for the security of the family who were sleeping. We consider this a serious and issue that should be remedied immediately.

Overall good, but with a little effort, could be improved. Positive: Great views. Central location, with easy access to the beach. Nice touches, such as plenty of tea and coffee. Price was reasonable. Negative: Key safe wasn't marked as either flat 5 or Whitby Pearl. There was some very faded writing, but in the dim daylight, it wasn't legible. This created a bad first impression and a small amout of anxiety, which could have been easily avoided. The flat is on the top floor - a fact not made absolutely clear before booking. Great for getting the cardio in, but a tad inconvenient with a dog. I was aware it was top floor later in the process - but pehaps making it more overt at the outset would be better?

Positive: Good location with free parking Negative: Bedroom drawers had hairs left in them in both rooms and dusty behind wardrobes and drawers Window in double bedroom was only on one hinge, so definitely unsafe to leave open when we tried it, so room was too warm to be able to sleep properly. The bedroom with the single beds had a blind on the window that was so light in colour that it didn't make the room dark at all, so made getting to sleep difficult . One small toilet roll only for 3 guests for 4 nights! Was not made aware that the apartment was on the 4th floor but they knew we were bringing a dog. He could get down the stairs but had to be carried upstairs every time by my son!

Positive: Great location, close to the sea, main bedroom. Has a sea view. Had everything you need. Quiet and comfortable. Lovely apartment. Negative: It was up 4 flights of stairs ( which I hadn't realised when booking) a bit of a killer as I have Stage 3 COPD and my friend has not long had a knee replacement. Bit of a nuisance having to keep taking the dog out for the toilet. Apart from that no other issues.

Would not return Positive: Bedrooms a good size Negative: Bathroom very small. 6 flights of stairs before reaching the flat and no lift. Outside key pad difficult to open. Only 2 slice toaster would have liked 4 slice toaster. Walk to the river/sea difficult for anyone with mobility issues

Heritage style loft apartment with gorgeous view over the sea to watch the sunrise and sunset. Positive: The view of the sea was stunning! The walk to the Pavilion is close too which is lovely. Close car parking Negative: Unfortunately the bathroom was far too small, the size of our downstairs toilet at home. My husband and son are both well over 6ft and found it very tight. I didn't realise it was on the top floor with all those stairs, with my bad hip I found it a bit of a strain after walking up and down the Whitby hills. A heads upon the booking page would best as I didnt see anything.

Comfortable Positive: Heating was nice when you came in from the cold Negative: No wi-fi working all holiday, needs a refurb, especially shower room, sink so tiny could hardly have a wash in it, up 6 flights of stairs which was not mentioned, do not book if you have mobility problems as my partner has. Kettle dented, only 1 cup out of 5 not chipped. Just little things but you expect breaks to be home from home or better. Didn't let it spoil our holiday tho.

We enjoyed our stay here for a weekend in Whitby. The apartment was in a great location and walkable to most attractions. There is street parking, though if it's busy in the summer you may need to park further away, however, you are provided with parking permits for your stay. The apartment is a good size for three friends - it's a top floor so keep it in mind if you struggle with stairs. We would definitely recommend to stay here if you're in the area for a few nights.

Positive: Good location, and offered parking vouchers as it seems parking is an issue in the area. Negative: The hosts offer absolutely minimal facilities really, no hand soap on the bathroom, the tiniest piece of jay cloth to wash up with, two drops of watered washing up liquid. It all felt rather mean and makes a short stay just more hassle. The bedding is cheap/low quality, which sapped any sense of a cosy stay, the duvet was very thin (a problem staying in the winter as no blankets were provided) and too small for the small double bed provided. The mattress was cheap and uncomfortable, could feel every spring. Overall just a bit more investment could make this a much much comfier place to stay.

We had a great stay , but was cold in the apartment due to the heating cutting out all the time and no blankets for the Positive: Apartment was lovely , clean and well equipped . Ideal location for exploring Whitby. Close to town centre and easy parking in winter. Great views from top floor after 4 flights if stair. Well equipped flat for our needs. Shower room small but adequate. Cold weather but heating worked well. Easy to check in and out with key box.

Positive: Beautiful sea view and well located, in the town centre. Very well equipped for cooking. Negative: The bed was not comfortable. Unfortunately there was no scratch card for free parking, despite being part of the deal. The host did not try to give us one the following day.

Lovely, warm homely stay with magnificent views. Positive: The property was lovely and homely. Very clean and perfect for our stay. Lots of kitchen utensils which is often lacking in apartments like this. The views are incredible, particularly from the main bedroom. We loved it, a proper home from home. Negative: There are 6 flights of steps, but we were happy about that because it gave the fabulous views and made it part of the adventure. For those with mobility issues however it may be a problem.

A very comfortable apartment and a perfect location for the Pavillion. Positive: The location was great for going to the gig in the Whitby Pavillion - just 5 mins walk away. It was also pretty handy for walking down into the town centre - only about 10-15 mins away. The kitchen was well equipped with a decent oven and gas hob, toaster and microwave. All was beautifully decorated and clean on arrival (and when we left too!) It was also nice and light, being on the top floor and was well lit electrically too. The heating worked efficiently with a modern combi boiler and remote contol unit / thermostat. The parking perrmit was much appreciated although there was a free car park just around the corner - parking outside the door made it so much easier for loading and unloading though. Negative: The key box was rather awkward - there was clearly a knack I didn't possess! Our clearner arrived at the fromt door at 10.00 am whilst struggling to put the keys back. She had NO problem with the box!!! Typical of many properties that are left unoccupied for a while, there was an itermittent 'drains' smell in the bathroom.

Negative: Internet code wouldn't work No toilet roll on arrival A heads up on the severe lack of parking would have been nice. You need to find somewhere and then carry luggage, etc. A head up on the 4 flights of stairs would also have been nice - a pleasant surprise after carrying luggage 200m from the nearest car park Couldn't get heating working either, guide said controls were in living room but after a couple hours found the boiler tucked in a cupboard in the bedroom

The flat provided a good base to explore the coast and the moors. Positive: The main bedroom was especially nice, with a great view of the ocean. The apartment was clean and functional. It was easy to walk to the front, and meander along the promenade, and was only a 10 minute walk to the middle of the town. Negative: Parking was tricky, as we were there at the height of the season. The day we arrived, we had to drive around for 10 minutes before we found a spot, a 15 minute walk away. The system in Whitby is odd. During the daytime, tourists with parking permits can only park in one place for three hours. This is not the fault of the property, though, as it’s the same for all holiday accommodation here, except places which have their own car park. The day we found a parking spot in front of our flat, a neighbour told us we were taking spots from people who lived in the area, and threatened to call the police, even though we were parked legally!

Worth considering a stay. Positive: Nice location with sea view, good size room except bathroom. Free parking ticket Negative: Stairs if on higher level. Small bathroom. Free parking nearby is a bit hit and miss, especially weekends but plenty of padded parking if needed.

We enjoyed our stay . Positive: Good location Negative: The bathroom could do with decorating and the radiator was rusty.

Lovely place to stay in walking distance of everything we needed. Clean and tidy on arrival. Clear instructions for check in etc. good app gave us options for parking and things to do in the area.

Beautiful weekend in a lovely property in a great location. Would highly recommend. Positive: The property was clean and well presented, also furnished with everything you would need to make your stay feel like home. Negative: Previous reviews mention the stairs but the view more than makes up for it and we didn’t have any dislikes.

Positive: Bedrooms were fine with good views front & rear Negative: Parking was an absolute joke, Took the enjoyment out of the holiday a little because it's such an issue trying to find somewhere to leave our car within sensible walking distance from the apartment. Did not appreciate the four flights of stairs to the apartment situated at the top of the house, will not be staying in that particular apartment again!!

Would very much recommend. Lovely property. Positive: Location was excellent. Property was comfortable, plenty of sleeping space, very clean and has everything you need for a short stay in Whitby. Negative: Glassware was a bit dirty so needed to be cleaned before being used. Bathroom was a bit of a squeeze but still very nice.

Positive: The view from the master bedroom was super Negative: The ad coyly mentions "some steps" what it doesn't make clear is there are 52 of them after you get up to the front door. The bathroom was absolutely minute, you couldn't bend over to clean your teeth without having the door open. There was a fat filled , dirty pan in the oven. The double mattress was lumpy and hard.

Ok for a short stay Negative: We were on the top floor so this apartment would not suit anyone with walking difficulty or health problems. Taking our luggage up to the top floor was certainly a chore

Comfortable and relaxing stay in the heart of Whitby Positive: Great location, everything you need in flat, and on top floor so secluded Negative: It didn’t smell the best, some air freshener would of been good. The single beds were very comfy, however, the double one wasn’t.

Positive: Location, parking permit, nice bedrooms. Negative: Didn't realise this was on the very top floor. Some decorative repairs needed. You need blankets/ throws for the beds, it's cold at night and we didn't want to leave heating on as boiler is in main bedroom.

We had lovely stay in the Whitby pearl which is ideally situated for all of Whitby’s attractions.

Good location but needed better cleaners. Positive: Location was good Negative: We could have been told that it was on the 4th floor with no elevator and that the bathroom was so tiny you could hardly move in it. the property was tired and run down probably because it was on the market for sale.

Stayed in Whitby to go whale watching which was great.Had a lovely week-end. Positive: good location. very clean ,comfortable and well equipted. Negative: could have done with a parking permit. Even though apartment was next to a large car park ,unless you got there early there were no spaces left. Parking in Whitby is a nightmare !!

Money takers Positive: Property was ok. Very small bathroom Negative: The property added a security deposit of either £200 with a £10 handling charge, or a £25 charge, non refundable AFTER booking a non refundable stay and with a clear notice on booking that all charges and fees were included. The management only tell you of these charges two days before arriving, making it very difficult to change or cancel. I’m sure this is illegal and I will take this up with BOOKING.com

Positive: The location and sea view was lovely. Negative: The fact there was no parking so we had to pay for daily parking, there was no lift so after a busy day those 52 steps were hard going especially with cases and bags in tow.

Positive: The location is amazing, stunning sea views from the master bedroom and good view of the church from the 2nd bedroom and sitting room windows! 10mins walk to Whitby Harbour area Negative: Flat was on 5th floor, 6 flights of stairs, it was very clean but needs some basic improvements to decor, such as rub down to plaster on ceilings and repaint would make it perfect.

Very enjoyable, close to pavilion and amenities Positive: Key safe not clearly labelled, had to work it out from numbers on other safes. If you are not familiar with a key safe you would struggle to get in Negative: Toilet and shower room were too small and nowhere to put toiletries

It was pleasant and we enjoyed the flat. we like Whitby. Negative: There was only 4 tea sachets and 1 toilet roll for the three day booking

One to remember Positive: A good central location with an excellent sea view. Negative: Climbing up all those stairs. Lol! And the mattress was a little hard, we are used to a softer one.

Positive: Nice clean apartment. Negative: Really not happy about the insurance excess you have to pay, this was not clear when booking the property and to top it off I was charge a £10 admin charge for the reimbursement. 👎

Well equipped apartment with goods utilities, need more attention to cleaning. Positive: Sea view was beautiful, two single beds were very comfortable but the mattress in the main bedroom very hard. Apartment had everything we needed. Coffee, tea and sugar already there nice touch. Negative: I didn’t like the amount of stairs and the apartment needs a bit more attention to detail with the cleanliness. Found a plate of someone’s sausages in the microwave and it was also a little dirty. A few areas looked like they could have done with a wipe down.

Positive: Location was great. It was very clean and had everything you needed. Loved Whitby, accommodation was in a great spot to explore local area. Negative: No parking permits were left as per instructions so had to phone up to request them. Was provided conflicting advice over the phone and then on email. They were delivered the next day after we had left for the day so only had a permit for the second night. Luckily didn't get a parking ticket. We also had no hot water. The staff were very unhelpful, literally reading the instructions for the boiler which we already had. I had to boil kettles to have a wash in the sink. Was not happy! After a few frustrating phone calls they sent someone to repair whilst we were out so we were able to have showers on the second morning before we left to go home. Such a shame as the apartment was lovely and this ruined what could have been a comfortable stay.

Overall, a good holiday Positive: It did have sea view but from bedroom window which was disappointing. The flat was very clean and everything we needed was provided Negative: 1)The flat was up in the attic up so many flights of stairs, if I had known I would not have booked . I am elderly and can manage some stairs, but this was exhausting. It really should state this. 2)Shower room was extremely small, even wash basin was small. 3)The lack of communication regarding check in and having to phone to get instructions. 4)E mails could not be read until I had got back home 5) I could not access the app as my phone does not have this facility. A laminated set of instructions in the flat would be useful. 6) It was not until after verification of booking that I was told a deposit was also to be paid, this should be made clear before verification

Careful Positive: I liked the property, it was all I expected Negative: I didn't like getting stung for £25 when I got there or the fact I had to pay for parking despite being promised a permit. The property is run by a company who are in it for the money. As I've said before the property was great it's the letting agent that is the problem

Perfect location for a break by the beach. Positive: The location is perfect: only 200 yards from the steps down to the West Cliff beach and a couple of hundred more to get to the Whale Bones and the steps down to the quayside and town. Great views out to sea from the main bedroom and over the countryside inland from the others. Negative: There are three flights of stairs up to the flat (52 in total). Also, the parking is not ideal. You have to use a scratchcard that is left for you in the flat that allows you to stay on any of the streets in the W zone, but these are very popular. I had to drive round several times before eventually finding a spot. I don't think that's described clearly in the property details. My serious bug-bear however, is having to pay a £10 administration fee for the collection of my security deposit. I have complained and am still chasing a refund as I do not believe this was explained before I had booked.

Positive: Everything was brill. Negative: Only down fall was smoke alarm placed above cooking hob so alarm always went off when cooked so stopped cooking.

Excellent. Positive: Excellent location and views. Negative: Just nit picking, but the bathroom is tiny and the steps could be a problem if you are infirm in any way.

Schöne Ferienwohnung, in guter Lage mit Abstrichen Positive: Die Wohnung war sauber und die Ausstattung war gut. Die Lage der Ferienwohnung hat uns auch sehr gefallen. Negative: Negativ war allerdings, dass keine kostenlosen Parkplätze zur Verfügung gestellt wurden. Was neben der Zeit für die Suche auch viel Geld gekostet hat. Es liegen im gesamten Bereich nur öffentliche, kostenpflichtige Parkplätze vor. Auf Anfrage zur Regelung beim Vermieter, haben wir keine Antwort bekommen. Die Möglichkeit bestand, dass uns der Vermieter eine Sonderparkgenehmigung für die Zeit der ausstellt.

Lovely flat - small but quaint with high standard of decor. Would highly recommend.

Enjoyed location Negative: The stairs

Positive: The location, working tv, well equipped kitchen, big enough table, WiFi, clean towels and bedding. Negative: We visited last year. Compared to that visit we noticed there were more damp patches on walls, bathroom wall furniture needed repairing, there were too many dog hairs covering the carpet and furniture, the kitchen floor hadn't been cleaned properly because it was covered in bits, the sink hadn't been cleaned and a towel from a previous visitor was hanging behind my bedroom door.

Exactly what we needed, perfect location extremely quiet will definitely be returning :)

we wont use a Host & Stay preoperty in the future Positive: location Negative: Will Never use Host & Stay property ever again The apartment was nice but will never use any accommodation run by Host & Stay ever again. Absolutely peppered by dozens emails before and during our stay. Wanted £250 bond but, if we didn’t damage anything they’d be good enough to return £240 of it a keep £10 themselves. Accommodation included Free Parking for the duration of our stay through a scratch card system. We scratched the card perfectly and parked exactly where informed. but still ended up with a parking ticket because they’d provided us with the WRONG scratch card. I phoned up and they admitted their mistake, sending a new one over to our accommodation (a little to late) and told me to email the ticket to them. I emailed it over to them and the squirming started. Apparently T&C’s state I should know it was the wrong permit and inform them. I have no idea how I should know its the wrong permit as I’ve never used one before. Basically they made a simple mistake but refused to do the decent thing pay the fine. Never again.
