We enjoyed our stay in Whitby and The Spirit Negative: Lighting in the living room very poor - Not possible to read! Turning off the lights in the stairwell at night. The switch for the hot water tank should be labelled and could easily be turned off by mistake. Dusty corners and the vacuum cleaner had not been emptied. Cleaners not doing a thorough job.

Great stay, though had to wait at check-in as host had not sent the lock box code to enter

A lovely idiosyncratic place right in the heart of the old town. Close to lots of amenities, steps up to the Abbey just round the corner. The stairs are quite narrow and twisty, so if you have any mobility issues it might not be for you. Busy outside on the street during the day, but quietens down later and we had no trouble sleeping.

Lovely stay Positive: House full of interesting objects, art and character. Amazing location in the centre of the town on a busy cobbled street. Great communication. Negative: Small second room, fine just for sleeping but very tight for two people to be in there at once.

The Spirit is a wonderfully atmospheric place to stay. It's absolutely dripping with history and character and is in a great central location with shops, restaurants, the beach and Abbey all nearby. The accommodation is well furnished and has everything you'd expect, albeit it is on the small side; the listing says 'cosy', which is fair, but with four of us in the house I probably wouldn't have wanted to stay for more than a few days (it'd be fine for two, or if you had small kids). It's absolutely worth making that compromise given how atmospheric it is, though – it's one of the most characterful places we've stayed in. The only drawbacks to the location are that we found car parking to be very difficult – it took us a long time to find a space and we ended up being a bit of a walk away – and that there is a fair bit of noise from the street. These didn't detract too much from the trip, though, and if you want a lovely home in the centre of Whitby it's highly recommended.

If you would like to stay in a period property in line with the history and drama of the area, then this is the place to stay. Perfectly placed to enjoy the town and beach with lots going on.

Absolutely amazing stay so many beautiful touches

We had an absolutely amazing time here!! The Spirit is adorable and its decorations are fantastic and give off such whimsy!! The beds were extremely comfortable and made for a great nights sleep. This cottage is a pefect distance from the Abbey too! We will definitely be staying here again!

it's a good place just not my style. Ceilings are low and the space around you is límites. Location is good though, very easy to find and near the abbey which is awesome if that’s the reason you're at whitby

We absolutely loved our stay here. The location was perfect! On the most beautiful street with walking distance to anything and everything you could imagine. The place felt like a cosy home away from home and although we were on a busy street as soon as you close the door it’s pretty quiet. It looks ok on the photos but in person it’s even better. So enchanting and lovely. We had the best time and will absolutely be back.

We had a lovely time at The Spirit, it's in a fantastic location and was kitted out for all our needs. We loved the decor and the beds were extremely comfortable. can't wait to visit again.
