Positive: Really comfortable house from bed's to the lounge. So easy to cook a meal, everything is there in the kitchen. Easy walk to Whitby. Room for two car's to park easily in front of house. Great for a family get together ❤️ Negative: Finding a washer & dryer not connected, it would have been really useful, having children who got wet everyday
Would definitely recommend for a family stay. Positive: Great location for the beautiful town of Whitby. The beds were super comfortable and the house was warm and welcoming. We had 2 cars and were able to park both on the driveway.
Overall a pleasant stay in a spacious house Positive: Excellent location- parking a real bonus! Enough space for a large family trip. Negative: Not as clean as it could have been- certainly not filthy but definitely not spotless. Yard could have done with a tidy too, it was a little overgrown.

We had a fantastic family weekend thank you we will come back Positive: Location is perfect being able to walk Into Whitby in 10 minutes a pub and fish and chip shop 2 minutes away and views of Whitby just across the road couldn’t ask for more. It’s ideal for a dog and children lots of nice walks and a children’s play area at rear of the property. Negative: This is not a criticism but one of our party is a wheelchair user and the downstairs bedroom and bathroom were perfect also entry to the property but as she couldn’t come upstairs to the lounge and kitchen she was a bit cut off we were very lucky with the weather so able to eat in the garden but it would be a bit isolating if the weather was bad.she also couldn’t use the shower as it was in a bath but she thoroughly enjoyed it anyway. Maybe a small TV in there would be nice.
Fairly standard property in the middle of other housing . No views etc other than of other properties and a bridge . Parking for 2 cars on the drive was a bonus. Host&stay caused a minor panic with message on the day saying we could only get in from 7pm but was resolved pretty quickly to the correct time of 4pm. Nice space inside for us . 2 families totally 8 people . Nice little kids playground immediately behind the garden . 10 min walk to the town centre. Negatives were poor water pressure in upstairs en suite and shower . £40 insurance on top of the cost of the booking . Usual Whitby early wake up call from the 1000s of Gulls 😄 Would we return ? Probably but more likely to try another property In Whitby first .
Excellent location for Whitby Positive: Excellent location; close by to Whitby centre and beaches - just a 5 minute walk. On site parking was really helpful. The property was comfortable and spacious for our party (4 adults and 4 children). The kitchen is modern and well equipped, perfect for family style home cooking. There is ab outdoor play park with slide and swings just outside the back which our kids loved. Negative: The flushing systems were a bit faulty and needed attention after each use of the toilet. The curtains and blinds let light through so it was difficult to make the bedrooms dark enough for sleep before sunset. Some basics in the kitchen, like salt and pepper would have been helpful.
Fantastic accommodation for large family or group looking to explore Whitby and surrounding areas. Positive: Nicely sized townhouse style property for a group of 8 people. The 2 double rooms have ample space with ensuite bathrooms. The 2 twin rooms are a little tight but the space around the rest of the property is great for 8 people to stay comfortably (6 adults, 2 kids). The location is about 20mins walk from the town centre but has a handful of pubs for a pitstop pint or 2 along the way. check in /out was simple with the lock box very visible at the front door. Clean bed linen and enough towels were provided. The kitchen was stocked with plenty of kitchenware to prep and eat meals. There was tea/coffee/sugar and sachets of UHT milk for a welcomed cuppa after travelling. a couple of dishwasher tabs and bottle of dishsoap also provided for your first day. Communication with the property agents was great in the build up, during and after our stay. They sent a link to install a little app with lots of info and guidelines about the property. We didn't need to get in contact the agent during our stay, but had there been any issues I'm sure their reps would be able to communicate anything quite quickly. Overall had a great stay and already looking to book again with them later in the year. Negative: The family/communal bathroom should have a shower installed. 2 twin rooms have to share with the ensuite bedrooms or run a bath. Not recommended for those with mobility issues as the lounge and kitchen are on the first floor. Another allocated parking space would be helpful as group of 8 people are likely to come with at least 2 cars..Recommendations not complaints.
Perfect location, great views and parking! Positive: Absolutely wonderful stay at this beautiful, well-equipped holiday home. Everything was great from the booking process, communication, arrival, comfort to the location. Our group was family of 8 adults ranging from 20-74 and a 12 year old dog! We all felt the house suited our needs and was in a perfect location of about 10min walk into the heart of Whitby. Would definitely recommend this home and would love to visit again. Negative: Told couldn't park 2 cars but ample space and the neighbouring house did have 2 cars parked on their drive which was smaller. So definitely can park both cars - a house for 8 it's unlikely that you wouldn't need more than one car so don't be put off as the 2nd car was pulled on on our 2nd day and it didn't obstruct the path or inconvenience anyone in the slightest - and meant no car park fees!
Recommended Positive: Location was great, only a short walk into the centre. Room/bed set ups for a group like ours was perfect (a mix of couple, family and friends). Good amount of bathrooms for this also Negative: There was a small problem with one of the toilets but this hasn't affected the overall rating
Great family long weekend break in Whitby Positive: Excellent location as only a short walk into town. Well equipped and comfortable. Own parking space. Quiet surroundings. Negative: Creaky floorboards (a nuisance if someone up and others trying to sleep). A working plumbed in washing machine would have been useful.
Property fine but would never book via Host & Stay again Positive: Property was nicely presented. Well-equipped kitchen and comfy lounge. Around 20 mins stroll to the centre of Whitby. Small play park for young children just behind. Negative: The worst part by far was was dealing with Host & Stay. Despite paying extra for free cancellation the deposit was deducted straightaway. The balance was deducted early. The online system to pay £25 damage insurance (actually £27.50 - some sort of extra admin fee l think) would not work. Finally got details to pay manually over a month before holiday and paid the same day but less than a week before the stay we were being chased for payment. Only got confirmation of payment and check in less than 48 hours before set off. Property had some minor issues - dirty sock in wardrobe, marks on some walls, jets not working in downstairs bath and no washing machine
Good stay for a large family group. Positive: Great location and plenty of room for us as a large group. The beds were also really comfy and it was nice to have a bit of outside space. Negative: Parts of the house could have been cleaner e.g. there was a lot of dust on the banister. Also the downstairs shower wasn't great and the kitchen could do with an upgrade in terms of utensils etc.
Positive: Local to the town, clean and comfortable with everything we needed. Beds very comfortable, bedding and towels very good. Negative: Parking for more than one car is an issue, 3 storey house, 2 flights of stairs. Also front room was quite small for 8 people. But still would suit lots of families.
Great location and fabulous accommodation for a larger group. Parking on site is great. Positive: lovely house, good location, great that it has parking. Beds were really comfortable and it has everything you need for a short stay (needs more teaspoons!) Negative: There were some slight issues with the cleanliness, Microwave was dirty and cobwebs in the twin rooms. The batteries needed changing on the remote, which we did, and it was very cold when we arrived, took until the second day to warm through.
The house was in a great position and well equipped for a family of 8. 4 adults and 4 children. The crabbing waa excellent fir the children and only 1 minute from the house, as was the children's park. There was enough room at the front of the house for our 2 cars. The walk into Whitby wasnt too bad. About 15/20 minutes. Overall, a great house in a great town and would recommend.
Scuttlebutt house was perfect for our group of 8 with ages from 8 to 60 plenty of room for everyone. Positive: Location far enough from the town centre for some quiet time but close enough to walk down to the town centre. The property was large enough for all 8 of us plenty of room. Negative: Some small things Squeaky floor boards, no washing machine/dryer, couldn't get the tv to tune in ( a problem for the kids) some instructions for the kitchen equipment (dish washer, oven etc). and defrost the freezer.
Good stay, had to pay damage deposit but other than that was great. We all had a great weekend
Quiet location, short walk to town, shops and abbey. Good accommodation for 8 of us, enough seating, 3 bathrooms. Kitchen very well equipped with everything we needed. Driveway actually fit 2 cars rather than the 1 the description states so this might be useful information to update as when renting a house for 8 people there will usually be 2 cars. Would stay here again

We were a party of 6 ladies, the accommodation suited us, was really comfortable and the location was perfect, just a short walk to the centre with a couple of nice pubs on the way. Great location to explore Whitby. We felt the check out at 10am was a little early. We appreciated the tea, coffee & sugar but it would have helped to have some milk as well.

We had a wonderful weekend stay at Scuttlebutt Cottage for a family wedding! The location couldn’t be better—an easy walk to all of Whitby’s attractions and local amenities. With a group of six, we were thrilled with how spacious the cottage felt. Having four double bedrooms meant everyone had plenty of room and privacy, and the place had absolutely everything we needed. Check-in was completely seamless, and having a dedicated parking space right outside (plus extra parking nearby) made arriving stress-free. The host was fantastic—super responsive and full of great recommendations for local spots to eat and explore. Highly recommend Scuttlebutt Cottage for any large family or group visiting Whitby

Property overpriced and poor value for money Positive: Location. Childs park close by Negative: Uncomfortable beds. Property was not cleaned properly. Used clothes and toys under beds. Stained sheets used on beds. Dirty walls, bannister, chairs and settees in the living room. Courtyard overgrown and uot pleasant to sit in. Dustbin overfilled with rubbish.
Reasonable value for money but not luxurious Positive: Lovely location. Plenty of room for our family of eight. Facilities were adequate. Well furnished. Negative: Layout of property - would have preferred all bedrooms closer together and en-suite for two of the bedrooms. The floor and carpet were not particularly clean - looked like dog hair. Dishwasher didn't clean very well - needed salt and rinse aid. Insufficient glasses of similar size for everyone's requirements.

Good, clean, spacious, well equipped accommodation. We enjoyed our stay. Positive: The house was spacious, clean and well furnished. The kitchen was well equipped. The location was pleasant but it was quite a walk (for us) to Whitby town. It was very nice to have tea, sugar and milk on arrival. The beds were clean and comfortable. Plenty of towels and two clean tea towels - very handy. The key code was sent in plenty of time and there was a lot of useful information provided. Negative: We were not able to use the dishwasher as it had run out of rinse aid and salt. We did feel that there was constant pressure to include add ons. Paid approx £45 extra for insurance to cover any damages othewise there would have been a £250 bond :(

House in great location Positive: Great house in perfect location to everything in whitby. Spacious and comfortable house with nice enclosed garden for the dog. Negative: On arriving the kitchen had a smell of old grease and could have been cleaner.
Lovely stay - thank you Positive: Location - and the table in the kitchen. Negative: The garden needs a little tlc. The garage is being used as a store room - this would make a brilliant games room with such things as darts or table football. Thought the charges were expensive if you wanted early entry. especially as it was available anyway.
Positive: Nice and clean and everything we needed was provided Negative: There was no heating on and the instructions to put the heating were out of date. When we reprted this I was told to access the boiler. When i did locate the boiler the heating was off as there was no pressure. Fortunately we managed to re pressurise the boiler and the heating came on,unfortunately we had spent the day in the house which was only 11 degrees. Also there was a leaky radiator which had a plastic dish under it. On arrival the dish was full and throughout our stay we had to keep emptying it.

We enjoyed our stay at Scuttlebutt, fairly close to centre of Whitby, easy 10-15 minute walk. House was relatively clean, including towels and beds, however some floors appeared to not have been cleaned sufficiently. Overall we had an enjoyable time away.

Positive: Size of property, location and overall quite clean in main areas. Negative: No mattress protectors on 2 of the beds - 1 had a very small sheet so it was uncomfortable and worry re hygiene. Lovely house, about 10-15 mins walk from the town centre. There was just about parking space for 2 cars on the front. The house was nice and clean and looked just like the photos. Perhaps a shower in the shared bathroom would be a useful addition, but other than that everything was great.

Overpriced stay Positive: The kitchen table was nice Negative: On arrival there was rubbish and cigarettes all round the front, side and back of house, the house itself is filthy never seen a cleaner in there cobwebs absolutely everywhere, all over the side lamps, sofa was very sticky like it needed a good clean the floors where sticky and the stairs hadn’t been vacuumed, the bedding had what looked like yellow crust or dried food all over the pillows and bottom sheets. Because only the stairs have carpet everywhere else is hard flood the whole house echoes it’s so noisy so if one person is up at 5am everyone is getting up I did make host and stay aware with a response of shall we send a re clean well actually it shouldn’t have to be re cleaned it should of been right from the beginning and it was an inconvenience to us
Great house, great location Positive: Spacious, clean, excellent location. It was really easy to check in and out aswell. Negative: I would have preferred a slightly later check out and a slightly earlier check in time. Or at least the option of paying more to check in early. The sound proofing is terrible. If someone is washing up in the kitchen it sounds like someone is banging pans in your ear. Any sound can be heard anywhere in the house.

The house was lovely, a short walk from wonderful Whitby. Well equipped with some consumables provided. The parking is useful too since it can be a little tricky in Whitby. Was a bit put out being asked for insurance a couple of weeks before the stay. But in all other ways I can't fault the accommodation or location.

Positive: Lovely big house, in a quiet area, clean, comfortable beds, lots of utensils and stuff available for use, a real home from home, just a lovely 15 minute stroll along waterfront to Whitby centre, loved our stay here, we would be happy to come back.
