About this property

The Scuttlebutt Townhouse is ideally located for exploring the wonderful seaside town of Whitby. This tastefully decorated holiday home sleeps up to eight guests across four bedrooms . The property has ample space for families or groups of friends looking to enjoy a break on the North Yorkshire coast. Featuring a cosy living room, separate dining room and fully equipped kitchen, The Scuttlebutt Townhouse is the perfect home from home.

The area

Wander along Church Street and you’ll wind up at the East bank where you’ll find narrow medieval streets dotted with boutiques, pubs and fish restaurants. Climb the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. You can also discover the renowned ruined Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’.

Walk over the swing bridge which sits over the River Esk and you’ll find yourself at the West side of town. It’s here you can discover cosy pubs, fun arcades and even more fish restaurants! Continue along the lively road until you reach the beautiful, blue flag West Cliff Beach which is lined with idyllic beach huts.

Step outside of Whitby and you’ll uncover a haven of woodland and moorland. Whitby forms part of the North York Moors National Park so it’s the perfect place for long walks.

The centre of Whitby is a short ten-minute walk from The Scuttlebutt Townhouse.

Whitby train station is less than half a mile away so villages and towns along the North Yorkshire coast can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.

There are plenty of bus routes throughout Whitby. Hop on the X4 and you can visit beautiful coastal villages like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes. The X93 travels along the coast to Scarborough. The 95 route features plenty of quaint villages, such as Grosmont and Lealholm.

“We had a wonderful weekend stay at Scuttlebutt Cottage for a family wedding! The location couldn’t be better—an easy walk to all of Whitby’s attractions and local amenities. With a group of six, we were thrilled with how spacious the cottage felt. Having four double bedrooms meant everyone had plenty of room and privacy, and the place had absolutely everything we needed. Check-in was completely seamless, and having a dedicated parking space right outside (plus extra parking nearby) made arriving stress-free. The host was fantastic—super responsive and full of great recommendations for local spots to eat and explore. Highly recommend Scuttlebutt Cottage for any large family or group visiting Whitby”
