What an amazing place! Very remote with beautiful views and lots of animal friends nearby. Andrew was also very friendly and welcoming - we felt right at home! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.
We enjoyed our get away here, lovely views, nice & clean. Andrew was very helpful as it was snowing the day we were supposed to arrive. He helped with getting there & also met us to guide us up the track due to the snow. He also gave us sledges to use for our toddler. Very very kind host and an absolute gorgeous place to stay! Plenty wildlife, and plenty walks for dogs.
loved our stay at Andrew's just a shame it was only 2 nights. Beautiful location and cute little cottage. will definitely return for a longer stay and to do some walking in the area.
Perfect for a rural escape. Very remote location which was ideal for us. Limitless walking opportunities around the accommodation. We were treated to snow on our final morning which made the surrounding area even more spectacular (and even more remote!). Andrew was a great host.
Very responsive host and checks in via the app, to make sure all is okay! Stunning location if what you like is a secluded and peaceful area with great views! No light pollution making a clear night sky brilliant. Great for walks (weather permitting). Would definitely recommend as a great experience overall, short or long stays.
A small but very peaceful little cabin in the north of England. It’s on a small farm near Roman ruins. There’s no better place to get away from the rush of life!
Andrew’s place is brilliant- remote and tucked away in a farm well away from the noise. It was a great and refreshing getaway. Farm fresh eggs, waking up to the songs of birds and the blessing of sheep-getaways don’t get better than this.
A very peaceful and scenic location- loved waking up to the sheep, chickens and ducks! Really friendly hosts, lots of stunning walks nearby and other attractions- enjoyed cosy evenings with the wood burner, owls hooting and fabulous starry skies!
Positive: Amazing location, walks from the front door, nature and birds everywhere: lapwings, curlews, swallows, barn owls... Free range hens (and eggs), electricity from the wind, cosy wood burning fire. Helpful, approachable hosts, and genuinely dog friendly. Comfortable bed. We were able to really relax here.
Such beautiful and peaceful surroundings. The Red Brick cottage was so perfect for our Christmas getaway. The sheep and ducks greeted us as we arrived. We were able to walk around the property with our dog Blue, plenty to explore and great views. Andrew was a very friendly and proactive host. The kitchen was well set up and had all we needed. We had a lovely getaway and enjoyed exploring the area!
Just back from a short well needed break. Andrew is a very attentive host right from the off. He was very welcoming to our two dogs who also enjoyed meeting Rudy and Covi. The property was perfect, secluded, and peaceful just what we were looking for. The dogs loved exploring his land and running freely. I even discussed booking again with him before we left however the dates we were interested in were taken. But we will definitely be back. Thanks Andrew for a wonderful and relaxing stay.
Absolutely beautiful area, very private with stunning views! Waking up to rabbits chasing each other just outside the window was lovely, let alone the friendly sheep or the birds that live there. Make sure to bring a torch as it gets very dark at night! Was thrown off by not having a tv but the log burner made up for it by creating such a comfortable and relaxed space. Left here with a very clear head and a very happy dog Massively recommend this place
Positive: Lots of wildlife around accommodation Friendly sheep, ducks and hens Very accommodating for the dogs. Walks from the front door. Quite close to attractions and history of the area. Negative: Rain 🌧 🙂 Take wellies if rain forecast
Fabulous location and wonderful host. Andrew is lovely- definitely the best host we’ve had! We really enjoyed our long weekend (and so did our pooch). Would stay again.
picturesque Positive: The location of the property was beautiful with ducks and chickens walking around, there was a large field just outside where I could let my dog roam. Negative: The beds were clean but I felt that carpets hadn’t been hoovered, there were cleaning products for us to give the place a wipe down ourselves.
Andrew was incredibly hospitable and welcoming, and the barn was in the perfect location up on the hillside in a stunning part of the country. So quiet and incredible views.....beautiful starlit skies at night and we were treated to lovely sunlit skies in the daytime too, even in the middle of November! Ideally placed to enjoy the dramatic landscapes of the area. We were meeting up with friends, and there was plenty of space for the four of us and our dogs to get together, with incredible walks from the door and a very cosy lounge with powerful wood burner to come back to at the end of the day. Exactly what we needed.
We are just back from a very last minute weekend away. Andrew was very accommodating and made us feel welcome in our home from home. The Red Brick Barn is roomy and cosy, and set in a quiet, peaceful location with amazing views of the valley. It really is a walkers paradise, ideal for dog walking or simply a lazy, peaceful few days away. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you would need for cooking pretty much any meal. The gardens are so pretty with a range of colourful plants, plus there are the resident ducks and chickens about....if your lucky you may just find some eggs which Andrew was insistent we keep if we find. There is a seating area at the side of the barn with a fire pit which got used throughout our stay. If you want lots of shops, pubs and restaurants nearby, this isn't the place for you, however the location means it is a great place for being able to get out and explore wild county Durham. All in all, we had a very good experience, loved the barn and the surroundings, Andrew was great throughout and I have no hesitation in saying we will be back in the future.
We had a great stay at Andrew’s place - stunning location and scenery and a lovely cosy welcome. Dog friendly - would recommend!
What a wonderful place - peacefully nestled in the hills and moorland and a great antidote to stress and busy lives. Andrew and Jane are brilliant hosts and completely made our stay at the Red Barn even more enjoyable. Welcomed by lovely ducks and chickens at our door each morning - waiting for our boys to feed them. Plenty for families to see and do within 30 minutes drive including the majestic High Force waterfall and a wonderful, small but brilliant sci-fi museum (Doctor Who, Star Wars, daleks etc!!) curated by someone who clearly loves everything sci-fi. Lots of walking, rivers and places to explore. Could not recommend more highly. We'll definitely be back.
We had an amazing two nights at the red brick barn. Andrew accommodated us extremely last minute as our other place cancelled whilst we were driving there. The place was everything we wanted from a peaceful country retreat. We loved indoor and outdoor fire place and it was great that all logs were provided. Our 3 year old loved collecting fresh eggs and chatting with the hens, duck and goose. We enjoyed exploring all the lands and loved the fact that there was no TV! The barn had everything we needed and we would love to return soon!! A fabulous find ❤️
The Red Brick Barn is a great little place, providing real “home from home” comforts, very clean, with exceptionally comfortable beds. (Best sleep in months!!)We went for a couple of days as an escape from the day to day pressures that crop up from time to time and it was a great place to unwind and is very reasonably priced. A real gem in a beautiful part of the world!! Andrew is a great host and very attentive without being intrusive. Thanks again Peter & Family (inc Brillo)
All love it kids love animals Positive: Location is very nice countryside views quite Negative: Nice old barn conversion
Great place for a quiet weekend away. Great communications with Andrew throughout and Andrew was in a general just a super nice guy. Location is both remote (which is nice), whilst also being close to places of interest (30 min drive or so). We were surrounded by all kinds of animals which our 2 year old really liked. Very comfortable for 2 couples as both bedrooms have their own bathroom. Well equiped kitchen with all the basic and equipment, comfy beds and sofas. Do note the central heating and one room's shower are heated by the woodfire stove, so good fire making skills are a plus. Bring some indoor shoes to prevent cold feet.
Fabulous for a relaxing and peaceful holiday, but equally perfect for cycling and walking. Positive: The cottage is in a fabulous location, with a very different way of life, but easy to travel to the east coast or the Lake District in about an hour. The cottage is comfortable and reasonably well equipped. Negative: A larger fridge with freezer compartment would have been a useful upgrade but this is a minor point,
We had a lovely stay at Redbrick cottage. Communication from Andrew was great, especially directing us to a place on his land where we could wild swim!
Red Brick Barn was an amazing place to come and retreat. My friend and I were on a trip to do some writing and Andrew was super accommodating / enthusiastic about our creativity, which made everything super special and focused us way more. Thank you!
we had a wonderful long weekend in this remote and peaceful home. exactly what we were looking for to enjoy the countryside, peacefulness, character and nature. communication was fantastic and we felt so at home in this idyllic little cottage. would absolutely recommend.
Fantastic rural retreat in a stunning location, equipped with everything you need to detach and relax. Andrew was a fantastic host, incredibly friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!
We had a great couple of days at the barn and found it very relaxing. Great location. Would return.
Amazing stay at Red Brick! Wonderful kind hosts, beautiful location. A thoroughly lovely stay.
an amazing place, such lovely hosts, we cannot wait to come back x
Amazing accomodation, great location, Andrew (host) was absolutely phomenal, highly recommend
Had a wonderful stay and felt right at home. thank you so much
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the red brick barn. We found the host to be most accommodating and the location of the Positive: Fantastic location Negative: Noisy heating system
A truely fantastic little place made all the more superior by a superb host. Comfortable, everything you need, with a real sense of what the north Pennines is all about both through the property itself and its position in the dales. Just getting there over the passes, added to the immersion, of being away from city life, and immersed in something all the more meaningful and worthy. Old fashioned values and friendliness, a day ruled by the weather and time of day, limited distractions and good food. I fully recommend Andrew’s place to reset and perhaps even reevaluate what one holds important.
A last minute booking and a brief stay. Safe travels
It’s really a nice and a peaceful place to stay.10/10
A beautiful hideaway in the hills. Andrew was a generous and approachable host who clearly loves where he lives, and cares about the experience of the people who come to stay.
A comfortable remote stay within close proximity of the owners farmhouse. Quiet and peaceful with exceptional views from the outside space area. Unfortunately didn't get to meet Andrew as he was away so maybe missed out on local walking and access knowledge . Woodburner a real positive with an endless supply of logs to keep the heating and hot water constant. Water pump in kitchen and upstairs bedroom very noisy. The drive up to the property may faze a less confident driver but certainly worth it.
Countryside experience with all it's quirkiness Positive: The location is stunning! Negative: Noisy water pump
Positive: Beautiful location Negative: Showers were very variable - struggled to get consistent heat. Oven position is poor - you have to step in towards the wall and then the hot oven door closes on your legs. Not the cleanest property despite a cleaning charge.
Lovely property with stunning views. Andrew was a lovely host and we really enjoyed our stay! Thank you
Ondanks grijs weer heel goed bevallen Positive: De landelijke ligging. Uitzicht vanaf terras. Rust.
Amazing place in a wonderful location with very friendly and welcoming guests.
Great place to unwind and enjoy stunning scenery. Really friendly hosts. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. thank you xx
Peaceful bliss Positive: Excellent location, clean and comfortable. Negative: Nothing
Positive: Cosy barn conversion in a beautiful rural location. Fantastic view over the valley and a short drive to all the local beauty spots. Owner made us feel very welcome.
This is the most idyllic and peaceful place to stay and worth the drive! We were blessed with blue skies and sunshine but regardless of the weather the cottage was lovely, heated up very quickly with the wood burner on and had everything we needed. We will definitely visit again, next time for longer
Highly recommend nice and cozy place
This was our second stay with Andrew - the house and it's surroundings were as lovely as we remembered. The weather wasn't particularly kind to us but what better excuse to snuggle down in front of the wood burner with a good book and a warming glass of something. There's plenty of places to explore nearby when you do head out and I would thoroughly recommend this place for anyone just wanting to get away from it all.
Andrew was fantastic. Lovely house and a well needed break from city life.
lovely spot with beautiful scenery, nice hosts, comfortable and very peaceful Positive: location was great, lovely scenery. Really nice to have the animals on the farm wandering around - chickens, sheep, ducks. Negative: the tiled shower (electric) in one of the bathrooms - the tiles need re-grouting/replaced asap. The solid wood worktop around the sink in the kitchen needs sanded down and re-waxed/varnished, it was discoloured and not in great condition which was a shame.
Cosy cottage with stunning views and outside space Positive: Lovely cosy property in a beautiful setting. We were very unlucky with the weather but it was still a great place to relax for the weekend. The host was lovely and brought us fresh chicken and a goose egg. incredible views! Negative: N/A
Beautiful location if you love being away from it all. We loved the field in front of the barn and the view.
Positive: Rural location, plenty off farm animals, nice and quiet. Excellent views although the windows in the barn are on the wrong side would have had brilliant views from the living room possibly a planning issue. Plenty off books and board games supplied. Nice log burner make sure you take extra logs can be chilly off an evening. 2 bathrooms and a toilet downstairs. Nice court yard / garden to the side with picnic table so you can enjoy the views can be a bit windswept though. Negative: One bedroom floors very creaky and doors wouldn't shut properly. No tv but has good WiFi so take a laptop or similar if you need to something to watch. No windows over looking the views, possibly planning issue shame.
Great place, middle of nowhere which was incredible!
Skønt sted - meget smukt og Andrew er meget gæstfri
Cute cozy cottage.
A pleasure to host these lovely people
Tremendous stay. Would love to return. Cozy and stunning surroundings. Thank you.
We really enjoyed our stay here - the barn is very quiet and the little courtyard where we sat and watched the sunset was very special and private. Lovely place to stay to explore the surrounding countryside
A delight to host for their music writing retreat!
Lovely stay, unfortunately to short
This is a fabulous place. Weardale is so pretty and this secluded little part of it is stunning. The welcome could not have been more welcoming. The house is a wonderful place for a quiet retreat. Great walking, lovely pubs around and lots of local history. Highly recommended!!!
A lovely retreat set in beautiful country side. WH Auden countryside at its best. The dogs loved the area for walks and runs. Totally snug and warm with the wood burner heating the whole house. Lovely secluded area to sit and soak in the views and the warmth of the sun
