A beautiful little cottage in very peaceful surroundings. Perfect for a short relaxing break. It had everything you needed in the cottage. All very cosy and comfortable and great value. The milk, wine and chocolate was a lovely welcome gesture - thank you!
The bed was also very comfortable.
It would have been a 5 out of 5 but the shower had a noisy periodic drip and the tiling could do with a little TLC in the shower. There was also a slight dog smell in the property. We need to say these are minor issues in comparison to the overall experience and didn't detract from our stay. We would happily return one day. Thank you so much for being great hosts.

Peaceful, comfortable and enjoyable
Positive: The bed was very comfortable and the location was good, only a short drive away to lots of different destinations.
There was attention to detail to make the place have a homely feel.
Negative: Upon arrival, we realised it wasn't as private as what we had first expected. We were informed by an information sheet inside there would be free roaming pets around the property which we would have liked to know before hand as we were travelling with a reactive sighthound.

Beautiful location
Positive: The location was amazing. So quiet and not far from Alnick where the amenities are. The bed was very comfortable and the bedroom very spacious. Parking was good and the patio area made it nice to sit outside.
Negative: There was not enough storage for underwear ect in the bedroom.
I found the shower very slippery which was a hazard.
The furniture in the living area was shabby. Broken sideboard door. Tatty table and well worn sofa.
Although the place was clean it did smell of dog.

Bedroom was great. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was excellent. However main room deceptively small, with tiny fridge and poor cooking facilities. So difficult to be able to cook .Garden should have been fenced off , which would be really easy to do, especially as you wanted the dogs on a lead outside. Orange stony path along the side of the property and the entrance pretty unpleasant. No initial visit from the owners to welcome us. Felt like it was just a transaction to them.

Positive: Peaceful location, easy access to dog friendly beaches and walks
Negative: Cooking facilities are limited, dripping shower

Cosy base to explore Northumberland
Positive: The Pepper Pot is a great base for exploring the Northumberland coast with Alnmouth, Embleton Bay and Warkworth within 20 mins drive.
The property is well maintained and has everything you need for a self-catered stay - including a starter pack of milk, a toilet roll, chocolate and bottle of wine!
For dog walks, there’s a bridleway just a few metres from the property - check this on OS maps.
Negative: Not really a dislike, but to note that the postcode will direct you to a neighbouring property. The Pepper Pot is the next property along on the opposite side of the road if coming from the south. What.3.words is useful for sharing location with others.

A Perfect Getaway.
We had a wonderful stay at this charming cottage, just outside of Alnwick. From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home. The cottage was spotless, beautifully presented, and had a lovely cosy atmosphere. It was the perfect balance of modern comforts and rustic charm. The bar of chocolate and bottle of red that greeted us was a nice touch.
Tucked away in a peaceful location, it offered a true escape from the hustle and bustle, yet was still conveniently close to local attractions and scenic walks.
We couldn't have asked for a better place to relax and unwind. If you're looking for a clean, homely, and private retreat in Northumberland, this cottage is a fantastic choice. Jen, Bella the Spaniel and I will definitely be returning on our next visit to the area!

Lovely barn conversion, with everything you need for a few nights stay. The postcode/address sends you to a house just down the road but clear instructions where to find pepperpot which is a few 100yards up the road. Pet friendly, garden not enclosed enough grass area to walk on the lead around property. Nice and peaceful location easy drives to everywhere you need in northumberland.

A very enjoyable week
Positive: The location is excellent quiet and no traffic noise, superb bathroom, and very comfortable bed.
Negative: Some of the crockery was chipped, the frying pan was useless all the non stick surface was ruined.
As a dog owner it would have been nice if the garden was enclosed.

I will book again perfect for a short break
Positive: Great location for exploring the area. Perfect outside space for our dog.
Negative: Blackout blind in bedroom would have been useful.

We both had a fantastic stay at the Pepper Pot.
Very easy to find, signposted and easily accessible.
The cottage itself had been renovated to include modern features, great heating and shower and a wonderful comfy bed.
Lovely part of the world where we both found lovely beach walks, places of historic interest and a cosy local traditional pub serving great food.
Great communications from our hosts must be mentioned.
All in all, a wonderful weekend break was had in an incredible part of the country.
Definitely will return in the near future.

Came here with my girlfriend for a few days of peace and tranquility in the English countryside & the Pepper Pot was the perfect spot to do that in. We loved how off-grid it felt whilst still being so close to the town. The space suited us perfectly, reasonable sized kitchenette, large double bed & a lovely modern bathroom. My girlfriend especially loved the vanity nook in the bedroom, what a lovely touch! We would love to come back in the future and would definitely recommend to friends & family.
GuestAirbnbApr 2025
My fiancé and I had a lovely stay. The pepper pot is perfectly located, only 5 mins from Alnwick and with a lovely quiet outside area. The pepper pot is beautifully decorated and we would definitely recommend.

We had a lovely weekend at the Pepper Pot.
We found it fairly easily, place was lovely and clean and situated in lovely quiet farmland about 3 miles away from Alnwick. It’s a good base to explore Northumberland.
Inside the cottage was pretty spotless with a nice big bed and a lovely shower and bathroom.
The kitchen could have had a slightly better layout, there’s no proper oven
It’s a large microwave sized thing, so worth bearing in mind for longer stays but we managed to cook up a lovely steak dinner no bother. Plenty utensils etc.
Would recommend for a couples weekend. 👍🏻 Thanks again

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Pepper Pot for a celebratory weekend and we had a lovely time. The cottage was clean and warm and located so close to everything we wanted to see in Northumberland. The host was proactive with their communications and even stopped by as we checked in to make sure there was nothing else we needed. We would absolutely stay again.

We had a fantastic time away staying here! everything about it was just right. we stayed with our 8 month old boy and cocker spaniel and was just perfect.
There was plenty of privacy, the area was stunning and very close to Alnwick which is a lovely town with good food and drink!
The property was clean and relaxing. it's clear that it has kept the original character of the building without any compromise in comfort. would highly recommend and will definitely be back there in the spring/summer next year!

Good location for exploring bonny Northumberland
Positive: Location was great for exploring the area.
Comfortable bed.
Good towels and bedding.
Peaceful spot.
Good parking.
Pet friendly.
Welcome pack.
Negative: All minor but worthy of note :-
There were a few cleanliness issues.
Noisy drip from overhead shower.
TV set a tad too high on wall when seated for comfortable viewing..
Clicking heating system.
General need for a little refresh.
All issues have been relayed to host who invited honest feedback.

Really lovely cottage in a beautiful setting local to Alnwick and only a 10 minute drive from Alnmouth beach, this was the ideal place for a few nights away with the dog in the north east. Had everything you would need as well as being a cosy layout for evenings in! Would highly recommend!
GuestAirbnbOct 2026
Lovely little barn, everything you need. good location outside of the busy areas but a short drive to most things! If you do a but of running I’d recommend the park run on the Saturday around Alnwick amazing location for it, Bamburgh and holy island worth the drive beautiful spots ! Overall Would definitely stay again.
Only downside was the water for the shower on the lowest temperature is boiling, was hard to last more than a minute without having to get out.

GuestAirbnbOct 2026
Having stayed at Pepper Pot it is a lovely little place. It’s highly decorated inside and large bedroom with an incredibly comfy bed.
I do have to be honest and advise even though dogs are welcome, I would say it’s not dog friendly. There is no security for the dogs and the main house is not closed off from you so if you have dogs who like to wonder they can easily walk to the main house. The place also doesn’t have a secure gate leading to the main road which large Lorrie’s drive down and could be dangerous for them. A notice was provided to advise that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times when outside which is slightly disappointing.
We were provided no sugar, a few tea bags, only 1 toilet roll to last for 5 days, no detergent tablets for the washing machine and no kitchen roll. It very much felt things did not get replenished before we arrived.
You will also share parking with the main residents.
Overall the house is nice but please think twice before you bring dogs.

For anybody looking for an affordable, comfortable and cosy stay in Northumberland, the Pepper Pot is a MUST. Perfectly situated within the beautiful countryside - the short drive to Alnwick, Bamburgh, Alnmouth, Cragside, Craster, Seahouses and much more, make The Pepper Pot THE most ideal base camp location. The property itself has everything you could need for your stay, an amazing shower, comfortable spacious bed and a cosy living room to relax in after a long days exploring. We had the most amazing time visiting (almost) everything Northumberland had to offer and it would not have been possible without The Pepper Pot. 10/10 and we WILL be back.

ColinBooking.comSep 2026
Positive: We liked the location - quiet but easy to get to lots of places - sunsets and stars were amazing. It was very cosy and styled well.
Negative: We weren't keen on the internal sliding doors, especially the one between the bedroom and bathroom. This was because if you needed the bathroom in the night, the door didn't block the light or the sound of the toilet flushing at all. A little more storage would have been helpful. There wasn't really anywhere in the bathroom for toiletries and the space taken up by the ornamental tree in the bedroom with its lights, whilst very pretty, could, more practically be replaced with drawers. A smallish quibble - we didn't appreciate the dust on the lower ledges of the lovely sleigh bed.

GuestAirbnbAug 2026
Lovely private area on a farm.
Driving distance to nearest beach and town 10-15 mins.
The property had a very comfortable bed and quality bedding.
There is a two ring hob for cooking and a microwave that acts as a grill and oven. It worked fine for us.
Lovely hot water and heating works well.
Our stay was generally comfortable, but there were several things that future guests should be aware of to make life easier before arriving.
For a one-week stay, only one bin bag and one tea towel were provided. When we contacted the host to ask if an extra bin bag and tea towel could be provided, we were told that what was supplied on arrival was all that was available.
Although there is a washing machine, no washing detergent or pods were supplied. Instant coffee was left but it was hard and old. There was a welcome gift if a bottle of wine and chocolate and that was very appreciated.
GuestAirbnbAug 2026
The Pepper Pot was delightful.
In a great, rural location but very convenient to Alnwick and surrounding locations, all within the immediate vicinity. Being so close to the A1 also gave easy access to locations further afield such as Holy Island, Bamburgh, Warkworth, Amble.
Nearby restaurants were very good. The Tree House is not to be missed, but also Dunstanburgh Hotel, and for excellent fish supper Carlo’s in Alnwick High Street.
However, most important was the cottage. A well and tastefully adapted farm building, with plenty of space and solitude. A great stay which will be repeated

I absolutely loved my short stay at the Pepperpot, such a lovely and tastefully decorated barn. It’s within reach of many fabulous attractions and days out, yet has the peace and quiet to chill away from a busy life! Positive: This property was an ideal couple's hideaway. Very comfortable with all the necessary equipment to hand. Very thoughtful welcome gift from the owners.

GuestAirbnbApr 2026
We were very disappointed with our stay at this property, particularly given the expectations set by the damage waiver fee. Upon arrival, there was a noticeable lingering smell of dog and visible dog hair, which triggered allergies. Cleanliness overall was below standard, for example the artificial tree in the bedroom was heavily covered in dust. The bathroom was especially concerning, with poor finishing including a badly fitted shower tray, gaps in the flooring, poorly finished baseboards, and a wobbly, incorrectly installed sink. The tap also had rubber seals out of place. More importantly, there was visible mould on baseboards, around the shower, in grout, and around taps, which could be easily wiped away, suggesting a lack of proper cleaning over time. We raised this with the host but were only offered 20% off a future stay and told we hadn’t given time to fix it; however, mould that comes off to the touch is not something that should require fixing by guests.

Absolutely Perfect! Clean, Cosy & Comfortable, 5 Stars!
Positive: Absolutely stunning little cottage with beautiful views and kept to an impeccably high standard! It was a perfect location for both Alnwick Town (Castle, Gardens, shops etc.) and for countryside views with only a 10 minute drive to a lovely little coastal spot with a beach. It was very comfortable, and when we struggled to figure out the hot water a mobile phone contact number was easily accessible (front of the guest book) and our call was picked up straight away by the lovely hosts. Positive: Quiet, well situated, lovely place with private parking, no problems whatsoever
Negative: The booking process. Had to pay another £10 which I’m sure was not explained before I booked. Was told I would then have to pay £250 insurance, this wasn’t actually taken in the end but I was expecting it to be taken at anytime. The booking company sent a link that they said would take me directly to the home. This link took us to another farm down the road, very poor. Use what3words, ///never.diamond.rejoined to get you to the property. On booking.com it said check in was 3pm, the booking company said 4pm. Lots of emails going on about breakages all the time, which I didn’t care for.

Positive: Not very happy with Host & Stay, why do I book through you and then they take over.Firstly they emailed exact details of location and key box # 2 hours after our expected arrive time.Because of this we spent nearly 2 hours trying to find the place,as we had it down as Denwick, where as when we eventually found someone who gave us directions it was Long Houghton. If they had give us the details the day before it would have enabled us to go straight there. They were keen enough to send at least 2 emails to try to get me to spend £25.00 for their insurance,a complete con,but not to email direction until after or agreed arrival time.I would never book a property that involves them again. They took the original deposit from my Spanish credit card, then refunded it,which cost me £17.60 in the exchange rate, then too, 25% from my English card, they also took the balance of 75% at least a month before date we booked from. All in I feel they are money grabbers, even the own doesn't like them.We enjoyed our stay after the initial frustration of 2 hours driving around asking people where it was.Never will I use Host & Stay again.
Negative: Owner very nice,cottage good,location excellent,loved the area,people helpful and friendly,which is a good job,as we didn't have correct address details,as above.

Good location for exploring local places
Positive: The location is perfect for visiting Amble, Alnwick, Craster etc. It's great for exploring. The bed was super comfy
Negative: The postcode takes you to the wrong property. I had a really stressful start to the holiday as it was difficult to find the property. The man whose driveway I ended up on said it happens all the time. So I'm surprised this hasn't been rectified by the host to provide adequate directions to the property. When you do go further along the road the sign is very small and impossible to see at night so this could be improved for sure.
