Great place, perfect for families.

Lovely presented property, lots of space for our famly of 8, very clean and comfortable, lots of added extras included , great location for exploring the local area, good comunication links with host, would definitely recomend to friends and family.

Positive: Brilliant location central to Alnwick's town centre. Beautiful accommodation with fab addition of a pool table to keep our three boys entertained. Negative: Lack of shower in the main bathroom was disappointing but we worked around it by taking turns using the shower in the ensuite, which is a fantastic space!

After we cleaned the ovens and shower we had a lovely stay. Positive: The apartment is in an ideal location, the rooms are lovely, spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. Alnwick is a lovely town with plenty good restaurants and pubs, the castle is superb and gardens and children’s play park well worth visiting. Negative: The key was easy to access, but only opened 1 of the 2 entry doors, unfortunately the one furthest from the car park. The ovens were filthy, we had to clean the grill trays before we could use them! There was only 1 tea towel, one thin dish cloth, no other cleaning tools, 2 dishwasher tablets, the dishwasher filter was also filthy and needed cleaning before use. There only was 1 shower in the apartment in the en-suite bedroom, but the shower head had black mould and had to be cleaned before use. There was only one hand towel in each bathroom to be shared between 6 people, and one toilet roll in each bathroom. Lastly the remote control for the Amazon Firestick was missing.

Beautiful place, clean and spacious. Fantastic location within walking distance of Alnwick and driving distance to the spectacular Northumberland coast. The apartment was well equipped and very comfortable for the 6 of us with 1 toddler. 2 parking spaces were adequate for our needs. Would definitely recommend it

Lovely apartment in a great location. Couple of issues with sub standard furniture but the host was very responsive and will hopefully address this for future visitors. As others have said there was only one dishwasher tablet, very unrealistic for a party of 6 of us for 3 nights but we just bought our own. Same goes for loo rolls. Would be nice if the host could take on board these points for future. All in all a really lovely find to celebrate my 60th birthday with family.

The apartment was well located and comfortable. It was pretty well equipped, though there is only one shower which is en-suite and the main bathroom only has a bath and not ideal that one of the beds is in the main living accommodation. Whilst it was absolutely fine, it wasn’t quite what we needed but that’s because of our group make up: we had two children with us one of whom is a toddler and that required a bit of management because of lots of toddler hazards!

Family birthday celebration weekend Positive: The property was lovely, well equipped & ideal for our family stay. The other real bonus was how central it was with everything on the doorstep so we didn’t need to use the car while we were there. Negative: There wasn’t anything we didn’t like. The only thing that would’ve made things easier was if it had a shower in the main bathroom but apart from that happy with everything.

Excellent location. Beautiful property. Would stay again. Positive: The location was excellent. A short walk into town and to Alnwick Gardens plus the park just round the corner was great for the kids and the dogs. The beds were very comfortable. Negative: 1 shower which was not based in the main bathroom was not ideal. It meant having to come into another persons bedroom to use their en suite. There were quite a few cobwebs on the beams and a fair bit of dust under the sofa.

We had a great stay here for a weekend with family. The apartment was spacious and well laid out, enough space for our party of 5 adults and 3 young children. Ideal location just a short walk to Alnwick.

Great Location Positive: It just works for us. We’ve stayed before. Our teenagers get there own space and it’s near enough to town that we can all be independent. Great for exploring the area. Negative: Lack of cleaning products. Never any spray, kitchen roll to wipe down the table, bathrooms or work surfaces.

Beautiful location and accommodation. Area was lovely with a lot to do. Perfect for family or a group of friends. I would advise that there is only one shower in the place (en-suite to the main bathroom) and a bath in the main bathroom so be aware. Didn’t really bother us.

My family had a lovely time here, it's a fantastic space in a perfect location - 2 minutes walk away from Barter Books! Would definitely return in the future.

Save your money Positive: Location is ideal when visiting Alnwick Gardens and/or Castle. Town is absolutely lovely. Negative: We couldn't get into the property initially as the lock jammed. We also did not get adequate support from maintenance. We eventually jimmied our way in, while trying to keep four kids from melting down after a long drive. For a place that is sold as premium, a lot of the basics were not in order. Pink mould in the ensuite bathroom, the toilet seat was loose, broken bedside tables, extremely dirty bathroom floors. Communications from 'customer service' has been non existent and it's absolute laughable. The place looked nice but clearly focused on looking high end than being focused on ensuring that standard basics are in order.

The Old Workhouse was a great venue for our family get together. First arrivals had a little trouble with the lock on the internal flat door but hosts were able to advise by phone and with a bit of 'jiggling' they got the knack of turning the key. Inside, the accommodation was beautiful and really lived up to expectation. Kitchen/dining area is perfect for big family meals and we loved the mezzanine games area with the pool table. There are so many beautiful walks and trips nearby. Walking down below Alnwick Castle on a summer evening was perfect and it's an easy drive to lovely beaches. Would definitely recommend and we hope to return in the future. Thanks all!

Positive: Location Negative: It wasn’t child friendly and there was no travel cot or high chair nor were the host prepared to provide one for our stay

Loved this place & the area, less than 10 minute walk into the centre, loads to do around. Very clean. Plenty of utensils, plates & glasses/cups. The only thing that was an issue for us was that there was only 2 toilet rolls, for 8 people it became an issue, however we were only there 2 nights to didn’t realise until the last day. I would definitely come back to this place, loved the character. Hosts were always very responsive & helpful.

Lovely airy space but designed for appearance rather than function, if you are good at yoga you might be able to reach the loo roll when on the loo! Only 1 shower (and in the en-suite) for 8 people, while large bathroom had space but none. No cupboard space left for food to be put in. We could not get the towel rail to work. No hooks for towels or shelf for toothpaste etc .ACCESS was VERY DIFFICULT AND FRUSTRATING as place advertised as entire property/old Workhouse In fact it was FLAT 4 WAGONWAY HOUSE and KEYSAFE IN CARPARK This had apparently been communicated on the morning we drove up there in 1of 3 emails sent that morning also 2 the day before looking for £65 extra if we wanted in a few hours sooner! The late communication and lack of clarity did significantly adversely affect our stay. After a long journey we wasted so much time we missed out on meeting up with relatives . ( the emergency number to an office somewhere did help, but there was no number for our invisible host).

Beautiful flat, beautiful area with lots to see and do we would go again. Only downside was the hoover that was supplied didnt work properly and the limited toilet rolls (2 for 8 adults staying 4 days) and dishwasher tablets (only 1 tablet for 4 days).

We had a lovely time staying there, it was lovely and spacious. The door to the flat was a little tricky to unlock at times and we had to improvise with some of the kitchen equipment. The setting was beautiful and it was a great size space for eight adults, a toddler and three dogs.

Convenient for Alnwick Castle, nice property Positive: Location is excellent and only a 10 minutes walk to Alnwick Castle. Negative: In the instructions it explained to collect the keys from the key box. What they did not explain was the key box was at the car parking space. We only found this out 20 minutes after arriving as another guest was going to their car and told us where it was. Very misleading and not what you need after a 7 hour drive. The wording needs to be changed for arrival. Then the kids wanted to play pool but there were no cue tips on the cues. We messaged the property and they didn't understand what we meant, we ended up buying some so the kids could play. The 4th bedroom is NOT a bedroom but a bed in the play room area. No privacy so the guests had to change in another bedroom and it is a very small double bed so one of our guests ended up sleeping on an uncomfortable sofa. Only one shower which is a pain for 8 people. The bathroom is huge and could easily have had another shower, poor planning.

Though apartment was pleasant and the location excellent, we would not choose to stay in any property managed by Host & Stay. We stayed for 10 nights and the small washer/dryer was impractical for use by 7 adults & 2 children. Our repeated email requests for a rack for drying clothes was never answered. We also asked for a set of clean towels for each guest half-way during our stay and we were told we would have to pay for delivery. Home Stay continue to email us about their properties but they were not good at handling what we believe to be reasonable requests based on our experience staying in other properties. Also, it would be helpful to have away to shower in the main bathroom.

Absolutely beautiful property with lots of light and space. The kitchen was particularly well-equipped for a large group, including having two ovens. Very comfortable beds and lots of nice little touches.

We stayed here with 7 adults, a toddler and 4 dogs and the place couldn’t have been more perfect! We felt right at home straight away, the place was spotless and there were so many helpful recommendations in the little black book. We were within 5-10 minutes walking distance of Alnwick Town and only 2 minutes away from the amazing Barter Books! Whenever we messaged, the host responded quickly, efficiently and friendly. We will definitely be returning!

Relaxing escape to a characterful & spacious dog friendly apartment in an interesting town. Positive: Loved the character and space, easy parking, very dog friendly and walking distance to shops and attractions Negative: didn't like having to deal with a call centre to answer queries especially on one occasion the call handler clearly couldn't understand

This was a great place 2 stay. We were 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs. We all had plenty of space and the upstairs landing worked well for the kids base so the adults and dogs could have some peace in the main lounge. Great location, can walk into town, castle and Lidl - would definitely come back.

The apartment is clean and spacious and is close to amenities in Alnwick City Centre. A 2 minute walk to the infamous Barter Books. The rooms were spacious and had enough equipment for cooking and rainy days! There are a few things in the apartment that need fixing and sprucing up. The first floor mezzanine isn't suitable as a bedroom due to the lack of privacy and open plan setting. It lacks child safety features on both sets of stairs on either side of the room so doesn't suit children or adults as a bedroom. It does make a good child play room (watch your heads adults! Low beams!) As this is a first floor apartment, I wouldn't advise taking dogs as theres no access to a garden and due to the cream carpets we were dubious to have our dogs wandering the flat much which was dissapointing. A nice stay for those who want to be in the heart of Alnwick.

A really lovely place to stay, which accommodated our group of 6 and 2 dogs with ease! All the bedrooms are clean and spacious. This property was close to Barter’s Books and a walkable distance from Alnwick - perfect to stroll in to town for brunch or dinner. The only thing I would say, is that if you’re a large group, factor in extra time if you want a shower. There is only 1 and it’s within the en-suite of the bedroom attached to the living space. However the other bathroom has a lovely big bath

The old workhouse Alnwick Positive: This is a fabulous apartment, situated in an excellent location for the centre of Alnwick. We were 3 couples and a single. It was absolutely perfect for our purposes Negative: The weather was beautiful for the days we were there. It would have been nice to use the communal garden. The residents made it clear that the garden furniture belonged to them, and we really weren't welcome. It is not easy to find as it isn't called the old workhouse. It is waggonway house. It is an apartment in the building.no clear signage anywhere.

Brilliant flat! Positive: The photos were exactly as we found the property. Excellent living space for a group of six. Great location. Negative: There was only one shower in the en-suite bathroom which was the only downside to the property. The other bathroom had a lovely bath but would have benefitted from a shower also.

Had a wonderful holiday. Positive: Excellent location and well equipped. We used the thermostat to control the temperature and this worked very well as weather during our stay was quite changeable. Good accommodation for 6 people with the mezzanine floor and pool table working extremely well for our family plus partners group. Negative: What could be improved? A welcome pack, doesn’t have to be big, would have been a nice touch, as many of your guests have already mentioned another shower would definitely have been beneficial and lastly being told to strip our beds because of Covid-19 really?! If anything it forced us to notice marks that perhaps you would prefer your guests not to see! And we didn’t have bath robes not a problem unless you think we’ve taken them and charge us £70 per robe.

A Nice Break Positive: We liked the amount of space and layput, plus its location near the town centre, ideal.There were 7 of us and we were there for attendance at a family wedding at the Tree House. The arrangements were good and we were kept advised and all went well when we eventually arrived. The only problem was trying to find the site address as we were given the name The Old Workhouse but on arrival, thanks to a friendly neighbour who said it was also known as Wagon Way House. (the welcome mat at the door also stated welcome to wagon way house). This was a small slight at the time and caused a little problem for us after a long journey. On rhe whole, nice stay at a pleasent location, plenty of room and good facilities. Well done. Woulð stay again. Negative: Confusion regarding the 2 addresses. Only one key for the 7 of us. Central heating was on occasion a bit hit and miss.

Positive: Beautiful property in an excellent location. We have spent ten days over Christmas and it has been wonderful. The presence of a large lit Christmas tree on arrival was a fantastic surprise. The property is spacious and stylishly decorated and perfect for our family.

Disappointing. Potential to be fabulous. Poor customer service provided by Host and Stay. Positive: • This is a beautifully staged flat with an open plan living area. • Clothes hanging rail provided in each room. • Pool table (but only one cue) • The three main bedrooms had comfortable beds. • There are two off road parking spaces (accessed off Park Rise, nowhere near convenience store you are directed to) • The flat is dog friendly. • The permanent residents living below were delightful and very helpful. • The location is convenient for walking into town Negative: • Asked for specific directions to the property, but despite difficulties with directions mentioned by previous visitors (see reviews) the response was still factually incorrect. Building is called Wagonway House, no mention or signage anywhere for The Old Workhouse. • Only 1 front door key and fob to enter the building provided. This caused real difficulties for our multi-generational group doing different activities at different times. A request for a second set of keys was refused point blank. • No mention in the description that this is a First floor flat with no lift. Not easily accessible to all. • 3 broken light bulbs in the open plan area, making it quite dark, and an exposed screw were reported on arrival, but was not resolved during our stay, despite being told twice to expect the team to attend. • Many of the window ledges have decorative objects on them which had to be removed so that the secondary windows could be opened in order to use the blinds, which are fitted between the two window layers. • The communal bathroom is minimalist: no shower, no shelves or surfaces to place things on, nowhere to hang a hand towel and no loo roll holder. • The only shower is located in the master bedroom ensuite, which is inadequate for 8 people and somewhat awkward. • There are numerous small saucepans, utensils and crockery but very little cookware/serving dishes etc. I was told by the Host and Stay that I should have brought my own! Odd mixture of tinny, cheap cutlery, with only 5 teaspoons. • The bed on the mezzanine is a sofa bed, which was not made clear in the description. • Advertised for eight people, but only enough seats at the dining table and in the lounge area for six people. • Only one bedside table and lamp in one of the bedrooms, despite plenty of space for two. • No basic provisions - no spare loo rolls, salt / pepper, kitchen hand towel, first aid kit, light bulbs, kitchen roll

Great trip to Northumberland for a golfing weekend, lovely house which we made our base. Positive: Location is ideal, very close to alnwick centre. Negative: The main bathroom could have a shower added.

Yearly, family get away ❤️ Positive: Having all the family together. The space was great with the pool table added to the entertainment. Negative: Only one shower.

Dangerous attitude Positive: the place was lovely. went for my Dad's 80th .He loved BUT on arrival the key didn't work and we couldn't get in. we called host and stay and got a Philippines call centre. she said she'd call back in 15mins.She called back after 90 mins with instructions on where to find the key. All this time my dad with mobility issues waiting outside. after 90mins I called and got ? Luke in Richmond. he was more helpful. called the owner who said fiddle with the key. people have reported issues there's a nack to opening the door. I was never able to open it but mum managed one in 20 times. we were then told it's a functioning lock and they wouldn't be coming out to fix it. we then managed to lock ourselves in the flat. clearly we were going to have to leave the door open for our stay. we called again and got the same response.if we called a lock smith ourselves that would be malicious damage. it was only when my mum had the bright idea of calling the council to report the fire hazard being locked in did Host and stay contact the owner and arrange a locksmith. of course the locksmith found a broken lock and couldn't understand why it hadn't been reported before. we then spoke to a neighbour who had seen a previous guest with exactly the same problem having Driven up from the home counties. For this reason alone a all the ago cause I would give host and stay a zero. of course now the flat has a functioning lock. any issues we reported following this were dealt with promptly. The flat itself was lovely. I don't feel I can go without reporting this extremely bad and quite frankly dangerous service. the attitude being it would see. to avoid any kind of call out with phrase such legally functioning lock. make sure you know the law. Negative: the issue getting into the property

Beautiful but dirty Positive: The apartment was beautiful and well located and the kitchen was well stocked. Negative: The apartment was very dusty and the shower room was disgustingly filthy to the point that we had to buy cleaning supplies and spend our first 2 hours cleaning it. There is a bath in the main bathroom and then a shower in the en-suite which made it difficult for 2 couples and 2 singles to shower without disturbing the guests in the main bedroom. Would make more sense to put a shower in the main bathroom.

This property is epic! We stayed for our wedding and it was lush, loads of space and felt like a real treat. Also found the host to be super prompt and helpful when we needed to ask about the heating. Would definitely recommend!

Lovely central location, house was beautiful inside and all very clean and tidy! Was a little difficult to get in but luckily a lovely lady from the downstairs apartment helped us out. Lots of amenities in the house and a great kitchen. Would be even better if there was more than one shower but otherwise brilliant! Thanks

Perfect apartment in good location. Positive: Really well decorated, lovely apartment. Negative: The en suite loo seat was very wobbly, and the shower and bath weren’t the cleanest I’m afraid.

Nice clean rooms. Loft bed needed to be moved slightly because the person banged her head on the beam when getting up. We moved the bed back when we left. Kitchen was very well equipped. Good location for town and restaurants.

Fantastic. Highly recommended and is now our go to property in this location. Positive: The size and spaces were amazing. The entire building and facilities were 100% spot on. Negative: Family bath could do with a shower as well but not a negative issue.

Positive: OMG ..many photos of holiday pads turn out to be a disappointment when reality hits .. not this one! We loved it.. very impressive, spacious, and comfortable... would definitely book again. Negative: It's hard to find because it isn't called the Old Workhouse but Wagonway House..the entrance isnt on Wagonway Road but off Park View. Only one key, not enough for a four bedroomed facility, also could have done with a shower in both bathrooms.

Enjoyable short break Positive: The location was excellent for what we planned to do. Barter books, Alnwick garden and Castle and town all in walking distance. Alnmouth a 10min drive. The apartment was spacious comfortable and overall well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The 3 main bedrooms were all a good size and the beds were comfortable. Negative: Cleanliness of shower (some mould in grouting) and ovens needs improvement. Other suggestions. It would have been helpful to have a shower in the main bathroom. Minor thing. Spare toilet rolls. Directions to apartment were a bit confusing. Could have been more straightforward.

Positive: Location, security and space Negative: Only 1 shower, mould in shower, shortage of consumables, lack of basics eg table and drink mats, basic maintenance, eg loose toilet seat.

This was an excellent apartment to stay. Well equipped, nice bathrooms, open plan kitchen which was well provided with plenty of crockery, glasses etc. It's in a nice area, very quiet, with very little traffic noise. The seating is comfortable. There were only 4 of us so we had plenty of space - 8 adults might be a bit different. It was very clean and everything was in good condition and worked well. My only small comment is that the instructions to find the apartment and get in made it harder than it needed to be. We were lucky because we happened to stop very near the right place and ask someone who was in their garden, to discover that they were residents of the same apartment building. I don't think it's just me because they said that they frequently encountered guests who were not sure how to find / access the property. Seems such a simple thing to fix, because the property is not even remotely difficult to locate if you had suitable instructions. Otherwise - all excellent!

Great place and location

The photos looked lovely and we were looking forward to staying in a rather elegant place. Some of the furniture didn’t match the photos- and the crockery, cutlery and glassware were not adequate for our stay. Location is great, but venue overall was disappointing for the high price .

Excellent flat in a wonderful location. I can of fault this flat, the rooms were lovely , the kitchen was well equipped and very modern, there was plenty of space for the 7 of us, and it was very quiet and peaceful with plenty to do in the area.

A great little spot with easy access to town and everything you need. We didn’t realise there was only one shower, so just bear this in mind if there are lots of you!

Positive: Location very convenient. Spacious living are was great. A Negative: Only one shower.

Could have been excellent, let down by small details and mismanagement. Positive: In many ways the property is superb: it's clean and spacious, has a great double bed, a pool/snooker table, free parking, and is just a short walk into the nice town. I'd stay here again if they were to sort out the not-so-superb. Negative: Upon arrival at the top of the stairs with our cases, the key wouldn't open the door. It took us a good 10 minutes of fumbling about with the key to get in. I reported this to the management but it was clear to me that they weren't in a position to do anything about it. No pot towel. No washing up liquid. The tip of the snooker cue kept falling off so I had to jam it with some cardboard. A poor show by the management if you ask me and it's almost a crime that such small details were allowed to undermine the quality of the place.

Beautiful apartment. Sadly for such a high end pad the cleanliness let it down. The kitchen window was dirty inside, splashes and marks all over it, the cups in the cupboard hadn’t been washed properly and some were dirty inside and out, the drinking glasses were wet and cloudy, the floor had crumbs in the kitchen and the glass dining table was marked and streaky. The ensuite bathroom had a terrible smell to it, so badly that it kept me awake even with the door closed. Something really needs to be done about that as it can’t be good for health. We were left one dishwasher tablet for 3 nights which we used on the 2nd night. If there’d been some more then I would have put the dishwasher on the morning we were leaving so the cleaners only had to unload it. I suspect this could be the reason for the dirty cups and glasses put away in the cupboard - no time to wait 2 hours for the dishwasher to do its job. Small irritations when we’d paid a lot of money but it didn’t spoil our trip.

Shortage of facilities Positive: Very stylish with 3 out of 4 lovely bedrooms, the main bedroom with 4 poster and en-suite was nice Negative: First of all the 4th bedroom was in the lounge on an upper floor with no real privacy and difficulty in others using the lounge and kitchen when the 4th was in bed There was only ONE shower, which was in the main bedroom en-suite that all 4 guests had to use on a rota. There was and still is plenty of room to install a shower in the main bathroom Cleaning around the single shower was poor including the shower head itself Lastly there was a complete mix of furniture from old and tired to modern

Very pleasant short stay in interesting town with great countryside on the doorstep. Positive: Beautifully designed and decorated space. Very comfortable beds and furniture. Pretty good provision of cooking utensils etc. Negative: The property would really benefit from a shower in both bathrooms

Will be back! Positive: The rooms were all beautifully decorated and spacious. Bathrooms both a good size. Calm and well fitted out living/dining space. Kitchen was well equipped. We loved the mezzanine with the pool table. Very well located to walk into town excellent parking. Communication was good with the hosts.

Would go again ☺️ Positive: Location was great. It had everything we needed for our stay, as well as character, comfort, and clean and spacious rooms. Kitchen was well equipped with everything, and there was a dishwasher and washing machine on site. Negative: The 4th bedroom is on the mezzanine level and had nowhere near the same privacy as the other bedrooms. There is only one shower and it’s in the en-suite bedroom. One of our party was locked in the en-suite bathroom for an hour when the handle fell off the door. We laughed about it at the time until I spotted a review from a YEAR ago which highlighted the same problem with the lock. Too many emails from Host and Stay prior to our arrival

We enjoyed staying here and exploring Alnwick. The flat's a great space for relaxing in. Everything's within walking distance, so it's easy to get out and pop back whenever during the day.

Stylish flat, great location. Positive: Location, stylish. Negative: The cordless hoover was left to use but the dust collection part but was completely full. Obviously hadn’t been emptied for a long time. I normally give a quick hoover before I leave but didn’t want to pull out old dirt and empty the hoover first. Some of the cutlery and utensils were grubby. Had probably been through the dishwasher but no one had checked for food being stuck on.

We all had a lovely stay, accommodation just as the photos, plenty of hot water for showers. Easy to walk into Alnwick for restaurants (advised to book ahead as turning people away as fully booked) and walking distance to gardens and castle.

Great property with fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, parking, and good living space. The mezzanine bed is fine for two adults. There is only one shower and this is within the en-suite bedroom. The main bathroom only has a toilet, sink and bath, no shower. Not particularly practical for a large group. Lovely area, lots to see an do in Alnwick and local surroundings. Would be useful to have two sets of keys, all be it we did not ask!

We had a fantastic stay in The Old Workhouse. The place was beautifully furnished, clean and wonderfully warm when the fire was going. We had a small issue with the washing machine, but the host quickly resolved it whilst we were out for lunch. I would highly recommend this place as a base for anyone interested in visiting Alnwick and the surrounding areas. Thank you
