Really enjoyed staying in this location, its absolutely perfect. We had two children and two dogs and its was great! Amazing chip shop only 2 minutes walk away. Having a car park space too was absolutely fabulous as there was no faffing with finding parking. Absolutely will be staying again soon!

Very disappointing and poor customer response to our concerns, would not recommend Positive: Location Negative: Hot water in the shower was far too hot and the children were not able to shower as it would have burnt them, we phoned up to report it on the first day and they said someone from the maintenance team would be in touch but never heard from them . Beds were old and sagged in the middle, very uncomfortable and parking was a tiny space and we got blocked in by a car not in a designated space and were delayed leaving by 2 hours and only managed to leave when the residents from number 5 left

Ideal location Positive: Very nice property and a great location Negative: While our stay had its highlights, there are a few areas that could use improvement. Firstly, one of the mattresses felt quite worn, with noticeable sagging in the middle and the springs becoming uncomfortable due to its flatness. It’s clear this zip-lock bed has experienced some wear over time and might benefit from replacement. Secondly, parking was a bit of a frustrating experience. We parked in the allocated spot, marked as A4, but on our second day, we found a note on our car windshield indicating we shouldn’t park there. This was confusing and unpleasant, especially as there’s only one "Number 4" spot in the small back car park, and we parked as instructed. Lastly, the shower presented a challenge—it runs excessively hot without the option to adjust to a colder temperature. This isn’t ideal, particularly for families needing to bathe children. However we would recommend Host & Stay and would return in the future.

Perfect Location - Clean and Comfortable Positive: The Location of this place is perfect! I came with my 2 boys (aged 3 and 7) and it was perfectly placed to just walk into the main center. No tired little legs! The places itself is lovely. Clean, modern - what more can you ask for! Negative: I have two niggles (I don't want to call them complaints!) The first is that because this is a ground floor flat, there were occasions in the evenings where the upstairs neighbours were a little noisy - nothing major but you can hear chairs moving and people walking around. The Second is that as it is located on the main road, you can hear the traffic outside. Neither of these can be controlled, and it wouldn't put me off staying again.

After a long journey 400 miles we arrived late at night to an unserviced apartment will no clean towels, dirty bathroom & kitchen, bins full of rubbish, personal belongings of the last resident, towels with fake tan on, beds that had been slept in and more. It took an hour to contact the host and then we were given another unit for the night which was about 20mins drive away in the pitch dark, not ideal after a long day travelling with a child under 10 who needs to go to bed. The other unit was lovely but did not excuse the one we booked not being clean, I filled out the complaint form and sent messages but no further contact was made or compensation offered. The unit was nice and had a good location, the beds and sofas were small though and not comfortable. The parking is down the rd under an archway & the space not well marked. Nice enough flat but not worth what I paid, especially after arriving to it dirty. I don't recommend Host & Stay. Whitby itself was lovely though!

Great for a short break for a young family as walkable to Whitby and Abbey. Has everything you need. Double bed very comfortable, but list a star for the twin/double as you couls feel the springs through the mattress and wasn't comfortable. So better for a couple only needing the one bed until the mattresses on the twin are sorted.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my wife and our dog George. Host was perfect from start to finish. Excellent communication and nothing was too much. The Old Sweet Shop is a beautiful place located perfectly within walking distance to everything you need in Whitby. Spotlessly clean and spacious. Would highly recommended

Good location and handy having a designated parking space. Clean flat and excellent shower. Lacking in hangers which hopefully have been delivered for next guests. Found the king bed uncomfortable as could feel the springs, fortunately there was just the 2 of us so moved to the double bed which was very comfortable. Would book again as long as the king mattress had been replaced.

I would stay here again if I was in Whitby Positive: Location was great. Property was very spacious and had everything that we needed for a 4 night stay. Negative: The drainage in the shower doesn't work very well. Would be good to supply more toilet paper and some washing up liquid (no point putting the dishwasher on for 2 people).

Great place to stay and the location was excellent. Just a couple of snags. As in previous reviews the sofas are like something from a waiting room…very small and uncomfortable. The shower control wasn’t working properly so you couldn’t regulate the temperature. It was fine for my wife but it was too hot for me and I couldn’t turn it down. Car parking was an issue to start with we tried to find our space but couldn’t as the number was worn away, this did get resolved once Dale sent up a map with the parking space allocation on it however. Great place just a couple of niggles which if addressed would make it an outstanding place to stay

Host & Stay probably spoilt our trip before we even got there . I would say ok for a couple of nights but any longer Positive: Handy for town nice bedrooms good shower kitchen well equipped. Well decorated Negative: Busy road lot of traffic noise could be herd right through property even in bedrooms . Front room not adequate heating only one radiator cold when sat watching tv not very cozy at all sofas looking very tatty not very nice to sit back & Relax on .Problems with host & stay about booking very unhelpful & poor attitude .parking was a shambles’s

Excellent stay, place is just lovely & in an ideal place. The hosts are also contactable easily & were helpful Positive: Property was ideal for our little get away with friends. Great location, everything you need including parking. Nice luxuries included such as coffee machine, tea, coffee & UHT milk plus toiletries. Will definitely look to book here again if we stay in Whitby. Negative: There was nothing really any of us could say we didn’t like. The only things we all said we would maybe advise would be the mattresses in both bed rooms all be it we slept they could probably do with being upgraded as one was soft if offered no support & the zip & link were 2 separate singles together that were completely different in height when in bed due to one dipping in the middle. Also as we were a party of 4 adults the sofas just weren’t big enough to sit comfortably on a night after our king walks, but as said above these did not make are stay unpleasant we really loved the littke apartment and it had everything we needed.

Positive: Can't really think of anything. It was modern and fresh, I guess. Negative: The hosts need to spend a night or two there to snag the property. They need to try and have a cozy night in front of the TV on those tiny little dentist-waiting-room settees. Or to see how long one toilet roll lasts 4 people (inc 2 teenage girls). Or to be a grown man who has to get dressed in yesterday's clothes to go in his daughters' room in the morning to get today's clothes out of the only chest of drawers, which is in their room. The problem really is that the hosts are just a business. The property is run purely as a money-making venture. There's none of the personal touch you get when it's owned by people (who care) and go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and comfortable.. a pint of milk maybe, some tea bags perhaps, a pack of biscuits is always nice. More than just 3 Nespresso pods? I could snag the property itself more but can't be bothered. In short it was over-priced and not a very comfortable experience (or sleep).

Unenjoyable, as I’m disabled and never once has my slotted parking space. Positive: Lovely kitchen, Negative: Dirty shower, quilt has urine stains, parking is not as promised, driving streets looking for parking was a nightmare as I didn’t have parking as promised.I wrote to owners sending pics, I thought they would give some compensation but just got a sorry so here I am now writing a review they could have avoided.

Positive: The location, that is all. Negative: Firstly I suggest you change the photos to reflect what the accommodation looks like now? Both sofas were filthy with stains, so we had to use towels to cover them before we sat down!! The microwave didn't work properly so we couldn't use it for prepped food we'd brought with us. (I have a video proving this) Then the bathroom, mould on the ceiling in the corner above the shower. Black mould along the bottom of the shower. Sink plug broken and filthy.with scum. Cobwebs on walls in lounge and bedrooms. Walls marked with scuffs. I have attached photos to reflect my points above. We were utterly shocked with the standards of the accommodation. We certainly will not be returning!!

Positive: Was in a great location, the Kitchen was well-equipped and clean, parking at rear was handy. Negative: Seating area in lounge part was very uncomfortable n hard, and sofas wer dirty and cushions wer grubby too and needed a wash. TV not in great position causing neck ache. A dirty mop n bucket had also been left in kitchen area by the cleaner 🤢 Beds wer terribly uncomfortable, could feel the springs...we both woke up with backache each morning. Bathroom very small and not much space for toiletries and shower water too hot. A handle or rail near steps to front door would be helpful for anyone unsteady on their feet.

We had a lovely time staying at the property. It was a perfect walking distance into Whitby town. The flat was really spacious and had everything we needed. The only problem was that we couldn't close the bathroom door as it would lock completely. The Host and Stay Team were responsive though and called a locksmith to help us open the door.

Location was perfect for our family holiday in Whitby. A 20 minute walk up to the Abbey, a 15 minute walk into the old town for shopping and food. A 25 minute walk to the sea front and beach... Perfect! Car parking space was a great asset to the property. Only negative was the beds, the beds were uncomfortable.

I was surprised, after reading other reviews from the last couple of years, that the mattress was still lumpy and hadn't been replaced and also the 2 sofas were the most uncomfortable I think I've ever sat on!. The heating turned itself on one evening and it was sweltering. Despite information saying there was a hand held thermostat to control it, it was nowhere to be found. It took almost 45 minutes of trying to figure out the high tech wall thermostat to get it switched off! On the good side, the rear bedroom was comfortable and the shower was hot and powerful. It was an easy flat walk into the town. I would not stay again unless the furniture was replaced.

Was a lovely little apartment. So happy with the 1 private parking space. 10 min walk into the town for the bars/restaurants and beach. Only downside was the sofas were very uncomfortable and the beds were too small.

Spacious apartment within walking distance of the main town. it's on the main Spital Bridge road, but good double glazing meant noise was minimal and bedrooms at back of apartment, so very peaceful, with good blackout curtains. Car Parking space at the rear of the apartment in a private car park, we have an SUV type car and found sufficient space for parking in the allocated place. The apartment is modern and as described. Photos are accurate. We stayed 4 nights and were very comfortable, and stayed in one night to cook as everything we needed was provided. Bathroom is a small space with a shower you step into. All clean across all areas of the apartment. host very responsive to any query and very polite and friendly. We would recommend this apartment and would stay here again when coming to Whitby.

We had to ask someone how to get in the car park but otherwise good. clean, comfortable and in a great position for amenities and very close to a nice pub, Middle Earth! woukd definitely stay again.

The old Sweet Shop was a lovely, clean apartment. It was very well stocked with complimentary tea, coffee, milk. The shower was good, again with complimentary shampoo and body wash. We used the bedroom at the back of the property and the bed was lovely and comfy. I found the microwave in the kitchen rather challenging. Maybe I was doing something wrong but it heated one of our meals and then refused to work for the second meal unless it was fully turned off for ten minutes or so, and then turned back on again! The location of this apartment was perfect and the private parking space was a brilliant added bonus.

it was everything I expected. I would come again. constructive criticism: a. the king-size bed seriously needs a new mattress. b. the shower needs scrub more than a wipe c. the coffee machine isn't working properly.

The property overall was nice but did not really live up to expectations as it was described as luxury accommodation but was not cleaned to a very high standard. A bit more attention to detail and the place would be lovely.

Dissapointef Positive: Clean and modern, beds comfortable Negative: 1. It is definitely more than ten minutes walk to the centre, unless your young and fit, as an elderly couple and their disabled daughter it was at least double this which meant getting taxis, as the bridge was closed these were £8 to get into town twice a day and no busses. 2. We booked as this was all ground floor but its no good for people with mobility problems. Three steps to get in with no rail, all the door thresholds were a trip hazard as they were uneven. To be fair it does not claim to be for the disabled. 3. Lots of little things. No shower mat, complicated TV, no bins in the bedrooms, no teatowel to dry dishes, no clock, drawers in one room but no wardrobe. Wardrobe but no drawers in the other. No plugs near the mirrors or anywhere to sit and do makeup etc, nowhere in the bathroom to put anything, like a shelf or shower caddy, soap dish etc. 4. We had to contact host and stay as no instructions on how to use the heating, guide said a handheld thermostat but there wasn't one, its actually a dial on the wall. 5. The sofas were awful. Gruby and so uncomfortable, unable to sit on them for any length of time. 6. None of the nice touches like teabags, toiletries (despite saying there was) etc. We've stopped in many whitby apartments and this wouldn't take much to make it much better. Maybe if the owners spent a night there to 'snag it' they'd see all the little things

The old sweet shop is located in a lovely part of town, not too far to walk into all the amenities including the Abbey. It has a well specified privately located car parking space. The access into the flat is easy and the amenities within the flat are all good quality. The flat is clean, bright and airy. It was a warm weekend, but when necessary the heating was very effective.

Great location Car parking Is very conveniently located. Well equipped Walking to the town centre was flat enough for my mother to walk there and back. A very good option for a Whitby style break.

The apartment was lovely, very clean and well located. It was excellent to have a parking space provided.

The hosts were not flexible in the check in time despite telling me and in their description that it would be possible for just a hour early check in time despite telling me on the phone it would be possible. The place is not clearly marked where the parking space should be. There is no number in the space as described there is just a plaque on the fence. Might have been at the time but no longer exists. The place is in need of a deep clean. Floors sofas and bathroom all felt grubby. It is in an ideal location but the parking is terrible as someone blocked us in when we were trying to exit. Not the hosts fault but it was the second time an instance occurred like this. So if you did want to go out for the day you would be blocked in. The place served its purpose for the weekend and had all the amenities you would need for your stay, apart from tea bags. Make sure you bring you own. Other than what is mentioned it was an okay stay.

Loved this place, very central and 5 minutes walk from the main.It was lovely, warm and clean in arrival and had a great range of kitchenware, including nice wine glasses!

Brilliant stay. It’s a lovely location a few mins walk into the centre of Whitby. Easy to find and the parking space was also easy to find. The flat was clean and tidy, well appointed, everything worked and the internet was fast. Before, during & after the visit, communication was friendly, helpful & quick. Nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay here again.

The flat is a great place to stay about 10 mins walk from the harbour it’s very peaceful and quiet which is nice after the hustle and bustle of the centre of Whitby

Good location on flat ground so no hills or steps to get into the town or beach. lovely modern kitchen with everything you need. Nice comfortable, soft beds. very noisy from the road and is in need of a fleshing up with paint throughout.

The Old Sweet Shop in Whitby is ideally situated to get in/out of the centre with ease. The parking for one car is found through the archway at the rear of the property and marked clearly. The accommodation itself was clean, light and airy and comfortable. The beds were very comfortable. A slight mixed message in communication in check out times in messages we received. One saying 10 o clock check out another saying 12 o clock? Overall a lovely place to stay.

Had a relaxing long weekend, location was great, apartment just needs finishing touches Positive: Good location and layout of apartment Negative: No drawers in the bigger bedroom and only 2 coat hangers. No hanging space in the smaller double bedroom. Shower could do with regrouping as black mould present. Only 1 hand towel between 3 adults.

Uncomfortable living space. Very small bathroom, with toilet seat lid that didn’t stay up. Marks on mattress cover.

Charming, modern apartment Positive: The apartment is charming and welcoming. It was easy to feel at home. Negative: A few of the kitchen utensils were very old (rusty sieve) and not clean (some pots); I left them out on the worktop for the cleaner to hopefully deal with it.

Only one toilet roll for 3 people for 5 days. Parking space taken when we arrived, but fine once the greedy people with 3 cars went the following day.

We had a lovely weekend break in this cottage. Would recommend Positive: Beds were really comfy. Cottage was clean and well equipped. Contact with host was good. Parking was a real bonus. Negative: Sofas were a little uncomfortable. The bathroom is very small with a few issues that could be easily fixed.

Great apartment right in the heart if Whitby Positive: Location is brilliant, shirt walk to the town centre. Apartment was nice and well equipped. Yes as mentioned in other reviews the sofas aren't the biggest/most comfortable but didn't travel to stay in all day/night. Negative: The parking was a great bonus considering the location however it's not as clearly marked as described in the welcome info and someone else had parked in it when we got there. Maybe clearer signage could be used with a strict warning as to who is allowed to park there.

Stayed here for a few nights away. It's a great location for walking into Whitby. Perfect for a simple base to explore the area.

Great location. Nice kitchen, lounge and bedrooms. Positive: Location. Private parking. Nice kitchen and spacious. Negative: The bathroom let the property down. Cracked and loses tile. Grouting cracked and missing. Shower cubicle needs redoing(stained tiles and felt quite tired).
