Excellent stay for a friends birthday, great location and plenty of space in the property Positive: Property clean on arrival, plenty of space for socialising and excellent location (if you don’t mind a steep walk) Negative: No flute glasses, limited baking trays and pans for socialising with 12 people
The whole place needs a deep clean. Can sleep up to 12 - however the kitchen is small and only one of the ovens can be used at any time, otherwise the electric trips out. I thought the fridge was small for the size of the property. The dishwasher did not work and whilst there we found some dirty plates, glasses etc - probably because it was not working for a while. Only one tea-towel at the place too. We had a broken shower which we reported but no-one came to fix whilst we were there. There is no washing machine so it would. be difficult to stay for long especially if you have children and need to wash stuff. Richmond is a wonderful place and would go back but unfortunately the house just did not work for our family gathering - the largest room - the dinning room was great but we couldn't all sit in the evening. The whole place need a deep clean and feels a little unloved - which is a shame as it could be a really lovely place - but feels like somewhere to just sleep.
Whilst we all very much enjoyed our stay, the bedrooms and bathrooms were great as was the accommodation in general. However, given the house is to cater for a large group there could have been more kitchen utensils and pots and pans. Also locating the bins was a challenge, when it could have been so much easier with a gate into the bin area from the courtyard. Outside was not used due to weather however we would have been very disappointed with the state of the outside had we needed to use it.
Great location for families and furry friends in the shadow of Richmond Castle. Positive: Great location looking up at Richmond Castle. Perfect for walks with the dog, close enough (all uphill!) to Richmond Town Square where there are loads of pubs and food options. The house is very well equipped but a little bit tired and in need of some maintenance. Don't let that put you off, it's quiet and has plenty of room for 12 people and pets! Beds are comfy and the big table in the dining room is great for family board games. Negative: Outside tables were a bit precarious - glass tops were loose. The hot water in the showers is a bit hit and miss but the water pressure is high.
House is a good property to hire for a large group for a few nights stay. Booked for a family wedding at Middleton Lodge. Some of the bathrooms and ensuites aren't very well equipped and need more attention. Furniture drawers in one room were broken. There are no closets, so there is minimal room to hang clothes although hangers are provided. Kitchen is a very small space compared to the rest of the house. Downstairs bedroom has a wet room which isn't very practical and also the toilet needs attention. The Pool/games room was a nice feature. Beds and linen were of good quality. There were some basics in the kitchen such as salt pepper and some milk sachets which was helpful. Some better cleaning products would have been helpful such as a sponge and more than one tea towel. Location is perfect ( if you don't mind a steep hill climb to town) which has loads of pubs and quaint market shops and good walks are on your doorstep. House design is overall stylish and functional.
The Old Brewery was a great venue, size and location for our mixed age party of 12. Very comfortable, with everything we needed. The games room was a real plus and was used every day. We found the sink in the downstairs bedroom's ensuite far too small and unfortunately inaccessible for our 2 older members who were downstairs due to accessibility reasons. The listing could perhaps add that some bathrooms have steps down into them. host and stay kindly gave us the code to the bin store but didnt tell us where that was, again this would be handy in the 'welcome' instructions. We were made aware that parking was a 1st come 1st served basis, however, once all spaces were taken, the only option was a pay and display carpark - adding costs to our stay. Perhaps issuing guests with a parking permit is a thought for the future. Finally, not all windows opened which made hot evenings uncomfortable sleeping! That said, we enjoyed our stay immensely. Plenty of space and so much to do in the area.
Enjoyed our stay. With work to the outside area and more thorough cleaning it would have been better Positive: Location was good. Bedrooms were good. Cooking facilities were good but there were no large pans to cook for our large party number (11). Negative: 1st floor balcony and spiral stairs were a disgrace as was the patio area. Dead flowers in tubs and on flower beds. The table was filthy and the glass tops were all unsecured. Several of the chairs were rusty and one chair had “raffia” unravelling. Windows were very dirty, particularly the rear porch. Cigarette ends on flower beds. Cold shower only in master, mice droppings in kitchen cupboard, leaking waste pipe from master bathroom and weeds at the front door. Dishwasher dirty and smelly and needed the filter cleaning. Freezer also in need of defrosting. High chair filthy. Considering all of this the cleaning fee of £350 is excessive!
We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Dales place, 11 of us + 1 elderly Pooch celebrating my husbands 60th Birthday [age range 26-80] we had such a fab time. The accommodation was perfect - clean, warm cosy and tidy with everything you would need - we spent a lot of time around the very large dining table playing games and having many laughs - was a great location lovely view of the castle, the town was lovely with lots of pubs, and cafes . Big shout out to Little Drummer Boy Tearooms where we pre booked breakfast and they also provided us with a pre ordered buffet for our celebrations. The Artisan market was on whilst we were there too.- just to add that there is a very steep hill going into the town so not ideal if you have elderly or infirm guests or pets. Taxis were available though. We also had a little trip to Thirsk Races which was a great day out especially as the sun was shining. We would most definitely stay again recommend to anyone.
Great location and lots of room for 8+guests. The large communal table was ideal. Games room provided excellent entertainment. Sitting out area was lovely. Instant heat and hot water was fab. All the bedrooms were lovely and comfortable. Only 2 dishwasher tablets for 3 night stay was disappointing. Didn't get a reply to question about the bins. A physical book in the house with information, eg. the location of the bins, would be really useful. Would definitely stay again and have already recommended to friends and family.
The most gorgeous stay for our group of 12, lots of communal space & so clean! The perfect view of castle from the front door & short walk into the village - highly recommend!
Great house for a family get together. Comfortable beds and large table . Very dark ( darker than pictures) and paintwork needing some TLC. Small conservatory had mops/buckets and hoover stacked plus a broken chair which wasn’t great. Very dusty Venetian blinds and windows quite dirty .Cleaning fee steep for standard of cleaning. Kitchen cooking equipment not suitable for 12 ( no large cooking pot etc) Overall good stay

The Old Brewery in Nov 2024 Positive: This large house was well equipped, had 6 bedrooms, 4 of them with ensuites plus another bathroom. There was a great sociable dining room. Comfy beds and lovely linen. We managed to get our 5 cars parked around the green. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs in the town and some lovely river walks. Negative: Although the house is located in a picturesque setting the only way into the town centre is via very steep streets. If you have children or a member of your party is disabled you'd definitely struggle.
Disappointing as it would have been perfect had it met expectations Positive: Location was great and the house itself could be great for a large group Negative: I was disappointed that the sofa was broken and propped up on jigsaws upon arrival, particularly as the company contact you on numerous occasions to pay for a damage waiver or deposit. The property was also in relatively tired condition (marks all over the walls, scuffs in the paintwork, etc.). Normal signs of wear and tear but pretty poor given the photos and the price. The property smelt damp and some windows could not be opened properly to ventilate it. The property was also unclean - floors in the bathroom particularly dirty with clothing tags and hair on the floor, also dead flies around lots of the windows, dead spiders and webs in the bedrooms. It was just disappointing overall. which is a shame as with a bit of care and a good clean, it would have been absolutely perfect.

Not what it seems The Old Brewery is im the beautiful medieval market town of Richmond. There are numerous walks in the area, several delightful pubs amd restaurants, and it is a great base for exploring North Yorkshire. The property itself, though, needs some work. The kitchen and dining room are beautiful. The living rooms are extremely comfortable (with the exception of one chair). The bedrooms and bathrooms each have their quirks and drawbacks. We had to repair one bed during our stay. Several doorknobs were loose and one of our party briefly got trapped in a bathroom. There is no key to the rubbish bins (and one neighbor stated thst she had called the property manager numerous times about this issue). The biggest issue for our party of 12 international travelers on a two week holiday to the UK was that the washer and dryer were not in operation. The dryer only blew cold air and the washer wasn't even hooked up to water. The laundry shed was filthy. We ended up spending over a hundred pounds at the local cleaners to have our clothes washed and dried. We notified the property manager of this issue two days into our stay, and despite numerous assurances that a maintenance team would come and look at it, no one ever arrived. I now have to fill out more paperwork in order to get any compensation from the company. Host and Stay is not a good managemeny company and they do not do anything to help their customers or their properties' neighbors.
Had a brilliant weekend in this lovely house. A couple of little issues but soon sorted. Positive: Beautiful house. Great for 12 ladies Negative: Two of the showers didn’t have hot water The key to open the Annexe to put the rubbish in didn’t work.
Fantastic location and great property for 12 people. Lovely bedrooms and seating areas. Positive: Not applicable Negative: No opening windows in 5 of the bedrooms. Very uncomfortable during the night. Patio furniture and outdoor space needs some attention, including windows . All were very dirty. Kitchen utensils particularly serving dishes required for 12.
We went with family, there were 8 adults 2 children & a baby. The house was like a tardis, the layout took a bit of getting used to. The bedrooms were very comfortable & clean & the large dining table was the main gathering space as the living rooms were too small for us all to fit in together. We did have some fun around the table with card games etc & was great for meals together. The walk into the centre was a very steep one & not ideal for our elderly parents so had to get them a taxi each time but for the younger members was manageable. All in all we had a lovely 4 night stay & would book again. Thank you
The house was great for our group (10 people + dog)! We loved sitting around the large dining table together as a family and all of our rooms were extremely comfortable, other than the issues already mentioned by others with the showers being hit and miss. Some days you'd have a hot shower, the others lukewarm. The living spaces are great for the group, especially with the addition of a games room. The location of the guesthouse is great with access to the market place and many walks around, word of warning that you have some fair size hills to walk up to reach the market place. All in all, a lovely family stay.
Fantastic home for larger groups, we stayed as a family over Christmas. Beautifully decorated in a peaceful area of Richmond. Had issues with the showers and the hot water as alluded to in another review so hopefully this can be rectified. Apart from that, cannot fault.
Beautiful house, lovely location with lots of walks and nice pubs and restaurants within walking distance. We had plenty of space for a big party - all the bedrooms are a great size with comfy beds and most had en suites. Feels homely with amenities you could need.
We enjoyed our stay in Richmond. From the property we could walk into town (although up a very steep hill!-not a problem for us but good to know before booking!) \nThe communication with the Host was always very quick and helpful. Although lacked personal touch as the property is managed by a company. We were offered an extra night each side of our stay for reduced prices which we were unable to do, but when asked if we could check in earlier than 4pm (knowing the property has not been used the night before) we were told it would cost over £100 for early check in! \nThe property was plenty big enough for 8 adults and 2 children. The bedrooms were comfy and cosy. \nWe were let down by the shabbiness of the property. It really needed some maintenance and upgrading, and it did not feel clean. There were cobwebs everywhere and the bathrooms were dirty. Very poorly equipped kitchen and everything such as cutlery, cooking equipment, plates etc felt cheap. \nOverall an OK stay.

Lovely house in a stunning location. We had a great time staying for a family get together, it's our second time staying here as we loved it last year.
A great choice for a long weekend bringing family together. Positive: The property is excellent and easily accommodated a large group of 11 plus pet. Rooms are large with the games room an added bonus. The overall facilities are great with everything you need for self catering. The location near the river is great and you get plenty of steps in with the hills walking to town. We all loved the property. Negative: One of the en-suite showers wouldn’t run warm but the bath was easily used as a substitute. The ground floor bedroom had a draught which made the bedroom feel cool.
The house was lovely and well furnished. The kitchen had everything we needed, well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery etc. We all loved the huge dining table, great for family meals. The bedrooms were also really nice and comfortable. Location wise there was a very steep climb up into the town but it was also perfect for walking to the river and waterfalls.

The Old Brewery is a large and well located property for a family gathering in Richmond. The rooms are large enough to relax in without feeling cramped and the furniture comfortable. The dining table was perfect for 12 of us to eat and celebrate together. On the downside, the kitchen is a little small and the cooker and hob was unreliable. There were numerous areas in the bedrooms that were not only unclean, but actually very dirty with cobwebs and even dead insects. The games room was a particular draw for us with 6 children but the pool cues were broken. We actually bought 2 new ones from a local shop to use and left them at the property. There is a socket falling away from the wall and the front door latch was hanging from its screws. The bins were overflowing when we arrived so we had to leave black bins next to the bins. It is clear that it is a well-used AirBnB property and looking a little tired if you look beyond the nice photos.
We had a great stay here, the house was ideal for a family get together and the location is stunning, a lovely spot with beautiful surroundings for walking and some good local pubs and restaurants. I would definitely visit again.

Nice location. House needs some TLC and cleaning. Positive: Good location. Plenty of space for the numbers we needed. Good number of bathrooms. Great, large table for family dinners. Negative: Shabby in places. Needs a coat of paint everywhere. Smelled a bit musty and damp. Dusty. Kitchen equipment not cleaned well. Bins not emptied outside. Games room nice to have but in reality can’t play billiards / pool properly as the space around the table isn’t big enough for the pool cues.
Pros: Great place and location for a family get together of 3 generations. Plenty of space. Clean, and comfortable beds and furniture. Kitchen and facilities good but lacked a large mixing bowl,(we had a baker with us). Con: We did have a problem with the downstairs en-suite shower, unable to get hot/ warm water. We were advised to run it for 10-15 min but once warm was not consistent enough to have a shower.
We had an amazing few days and spent time with family in lovely surroundings, making memories. Positive: It had everything we need. It was beautifully decorated and cozy. Didn't want to leave. Negative: Nothing
Richmond is such a lovely town and the Old Brewery was a great base for our two families to enjoy everything that area has to offer.

We enjoyed our stay at the Old Brewery, A family gathering for a wedding. The house is spacious and the dining room table was perfect for everyone to eat together. The beds were comfy and the whole house was clean and in good condition. It looks just like the pictures! The games room was a great success. It is in a lovely spot down by the river in Richmond. A steep walk up to the town which has all the amenities you will need.

We booked this Airbnb for a family get-together for a birthday, and it was an absolutely beautiful place in a gorgeous location. The Old Brewery is modern, beautifully decorated, and has plenty of space for 9 adults. We really appreciated the two lounge areas so we could do different things or come together as a group. The games room was a real hit. The table was a beautiful addition for us all together for a feast. The biggest downside is the showers, the baths, and hot taps heated up really fast. However, the showers were never more than lukewarm. We contacted hosts through the app multiple times, and although they responded quickly at a later hour, we did as they advised but no improvement. They did offer to send maintenance round to look into the issue, but later, they just advised again to run the shower longer, and no one was sent round. Overall, we did really enjoy the stay, and Richmond is beautiful, shame about the showers.
Ok there is some good here & some opportunity for improvements. First off the house is great for large groups. Lots of bedrooms. Great dining table for 12. Perfect for our family get together. Location fantastic. Opportunities for improvement. Bed broken in bedroom. Housekeeping were aware but being aware & fixing are two different things. Sheets had blood stains. They changed them quickly but obviously not nice. The house was listed with washing machine which won’t matter for many but did for us as we were arriving with no clean clothes after 10 days on the road. Anyway. It doesn’t have a washing machine for guest & the operators seemed confused on this. Washed everything in the sink by hand. Now the showers. Prior reviews note that there is no hot water in showers. Running a nearby tap on cold helps as it drops the cold water pressure letting it run warm. Lots of pots & pans but nothing non stick. Ungenerous check in 10am & out @ 4pm. Surprise £25 charge breakage?

Although we had a few issues with the cleanliness of the property, the property itself was great for what we needed, in a really good location and great dining area for a big group. We did have an issue with the oven which we discovered on Christmas Eve. Andy the maintenance chap went out of his way considering it was Christmas Eve and helped us to resolve this. Would stay again if cleanliness was improved.
Lovely cosy house in an excellent location, just 5-min walk to the town centre. The dining table was perfect for our large group, and the lounge areas are small but nicely situated near each other. The bedrooms were all spacious, comfortable and clean. If you are planning to cook meals during your stay, I would advise contacting the host for a detailed breakdown of what will and will not be provided, so you can pack appropriately for your culinary needs.

Wow wow wow! Obviously we chose The Old Brewery based on the photos shown, price and area but the house was much much nicer than the photos depicted! Friends and family who arrived before me sent me messages saying how gorgeous it was and my daughter just said “stunning”. It really was a treat for all of us and incredibly comfy! Set in beautiful countryside meets a busy market town - everything you would want for a getaway weekend!

A beautiful home! We all stayed for a friend's wedding and had the most fantastic time - loads of room and beds with lots of bathrooms. A great location for staying in Richmond too which is a lovely little town
The house and location were lovely! We loved going walks into the town and seeing the waterfalls and castle. All communal areas were modern, although for a group of 11 the living rooms were on the small side. The dining room and kitchen however were a great size, and we had lots of fun in the games room! The bedrooms were well-presented and really spacious. The only downside were the showers which, although very modern and set within lovely and spacious bathrooms, were really temperamental. At times some worked fine but most of the time the water was really cold in all of them, even after running the water for a long while as advised. I think if this wasn’t an issue it would’ve really improved our stay. However, apart from the showers, I would recommend this property as it was a great space to catch up with friends and provided a great base to explore the local town which has lots of local cafes, shops and pubs :) *one final thing to note is that the company require additional forms and info to be filled out in order to buy damage cover (which I’ve never seen before on Airbnb). This was £25 to purchase £500 worth of damage cover and was compulsory.
This is a great property and suited our family gathering perfectly. Despite my concerns about cobwebs to the hosts prior to my arrival ( I read previous reviews) - it still had cobwebs. We arrived to a very cold property also - would have made such a difference if someone had gone in before we could to turn the heating on. The accommodation is perfect for large families. Although there is no private parking for the property all four cars managed to park around the green, very near to the property.

My friends and I stayed here for a wedding at Middleton Lodge and it was so lovely! Perfect location and brilliant house, so much room for all of us to get ready and socialise before the event. We stayed here to attend a friends wedding near by and had the most amazing stay. The house was perfect for what we needed and surpassed all expectations. The house was clean and had everything we needed. Each room had its own character and style - there was no “short straw” in the place!

Great place to stay. We were a group of 6 couples and found the place suited us well. Plenty of space and an amazing dining room table for us all to sit around. The house was warm and cosy and in a great location. Parking was easy and we didn’t need the cars as everything was in walking distance. (A steep hill up to the town that kept us fit). Would definitely recommend.

Really lovely place. Interior was great, lots of space, heating and hot water was perfect and easy to use and check in experience was great. Plenty of plates, bowls etc in the drawers. The area is stunning, quiet, lots to do in the little town, and we are at the fleece pub which did a wonderful roast dinner. I’d give the whole place a 5/5, however it dropped a point as the bathrooms could have done with a deep clean and there was a bottle of gin along with some dirty tissue in one of the dressing room drawers. We had no idea where to take the bins to either as instructions were given about where the bins go (communal bin) but no instructions on how to find where the communal bins are kept. Overall though we’d give it a solid 4/5 and would return again :)

Nice property, good location, comfortable bedrooms, bathrooms and dining room. It is however in serious need of some TLC, better management and cleaning. There were issues with Host and Stay who wanted an additional £500 deposit or £60 deposit waiver together with all my personal details(on an external link)which Airbnb advise against. This culminated in them withholding the keycode on check in day, until I made the payment, which was contrary to the information they provided earlier. Not a great start to our stay, but more importantly, if they had been transparent and honest during our initial contact, then I would definitely have cancelled the reservation. The kitchen equipment is poor. 5 wine glasses,few utensils, not even a teapot. The oven,cups,cutlery were dirty as were the toilets and shower screens. Some blinds were broken and there was also a pile of cleaning mops etc in the conservatory. All in all, not worth the money or hassle and sadly my worst Airbnb experience.
Holiday house in good location Positive: The property is beautifully renovated. It can sleep lots of people and is in walking distance to the town centre and the castle. A digital welcome booklet is available and an agent responded quickly to our queries. Negative: The property is lacking warm personal touches and items are not provided such as a welcome basket, a corkscrew, a dish sponge or a washing machine. Most windows do not open for ventilation. No toys, games nor a child safety stairgate are offered. A few old puzzles and books were in the dining room. No recycling is offered, the garbage collection was unclear. One roll of toilet paper per bathroom for our pricey 4 night stay was insufficient.

The house was beautiful, lovely decor, spacious and from the description as expected. The area is lovely plenty to do. However I would have expected the £250 cleaning charge, the reflect the cleanliness of the house. Which we don’t believe it did at all.
