Positive: Excellent location. Nice view. New carpet. Friendly helpful staff answered questions promptly. We had an enjoyable holiday. Negative: Too many communications- very confusing. Bombarded with messages, emails and a phonecalls before our stay. Ok I understand you need to do advertising but I've decided and told you when I'm arriving and leaving and I don't need a chef and if I want gin and tonic I will go to a pub! The 'guide' gave inaccurate information about WiFi connection. Having a web page with the info isn't great if the WiFi is mediocre! Bring back paper! I've never stayed anywhere where toilet paper wasn't provided before! If we must have a chandelier above the bed (not enough space), it would be good to have all the light bulbs working! It would have been sensible to give more advance warning about steep stairs. We were ok with it this time, but there have been times in our family's history when the stairs would have been problematic. There's a ridge just inside the front door that I tripped over and came close to falling down the external stairs. Painting a white or yellow strip would help make that safer. The key safe is very high up and difficult to reach.

Absolutely filthy!! Stains everywhere. Plants were dead. Dusty and just pretty disgusting. Parking permit wasn’t provided as advertised and the cot which we thought wasn’t included after speaking with the host, turns it was there so didn’t have to purchase our own. The host and stay team was also shockingly bad at dealing with this. We were moved in the end but only after we escalated to management.

great functional place. Well maintained and modern. good location. Positive: great location. lovely, well maintained property. very modern. Negative: consider changing the cream carpet in the living room. the stains on it from previous guests don’t look pretty. a stair gate at the top of the stairs for children. central heating on in summer. needs turning off.

Positive: Location of flat really good and close to the main beach at Whitby and the harbour. Flat was clean and comfortable with good views of the Abbey. Though a parking space was difficult to find and you didn't dare leave it, this isn't the fault of the owners. The scratch card parking systems was easy to use and much appreciated. Negative: The stairs, 5 flights to go up and the last set would be difficult of some and if you have some large luggage. We did find the location of the single bedroom a little close to the stop of the stairs for younger children like ours, but there wasn't any problems.

Never Again Positive: The location wasn't bad, the living room was OK. The bedrooms had a good view of the Abbey Negative: The stairs we were right in the attic 4 flights of stairs last ones were awful for an elderly disabled person, we didn't book this apartment, but somehow they decided to change it, one of the towels was not washed properly and had faeces on it, the windows were difficult to open and although we asked on arrival (as really high temps and couldn't breathe) no one came to help, after an hour or so struggle opened some, but couldn't then close them all. Also although it said parking ticket provided and we asked prior to arrival to ensure this, as we had disabled person with us, there was none.

The area the apartment is in is a simple walk from the main pier and has a nice view from the bedrooms. However, the carpets are stained in nearly every room, it was severly dusty and it clearly needs a deep clean aswell as general upkeep for the paint on the walls. Also, this apartment is hard for people with mobility issues and anyone who's older due to how steep the stairs to The Nest are. The kitchen and bathroom were perfectly clean aswell as sleek and easy to use thought and beside the stains, etc, the decorations are very sweet and give the place an almost homely feel.

Excellent location and beautiful views Positive: The views from all the windows were exceptional, the location was brilliant for my partner and friend who both have mobility issues. We found the apartment comfortable and easy to find. Negative: My only issue was rhe number of stairs due to the afore mentioned mobility issues within the party.

Positive: The lounge had stained sofas and carpets. Kitchen not that well equipped very small freezer. Negative: The fact that it was not stated in the advertising that we had to climb 4 stair cases to the apartment my friend has a hip problem and is 78yrs old.9

Free WiFi was Not Available Positive: New carpet, great location. Negative: Did not have free WiFi although advertised as having it. WiFi was important as I was travelling with my teenage daughter. The Network IDs and Passwords provided did not appear to exist. Put in the Network ID and Password on the Router which led to a screen asking us to sign up to a monthly payment plan. Tried but was unable to resolve this during stay.

When we arrived there was no heating, we had our dinner as we have a small toddler who needed feeding we then rang the company who look after the property and eventually at approx 10pm the maintenance man arrived. This was fixed with little trouble. However, the place isn't safe for a toddler to have a small single bed in the first bedroom at the top of what I can only describe as the most dangerous staircase I have ever tried to navigate. I am 34 weeks pregnant and we had a 2 year old. I warn anyone with little ones not to stay here. Not only was the child's bedroom a problem but the carpet was disgusting, I didn't want to take my shoes off and certainly didn't want my little one picking stuff up off the floor. We did our best to spend as little time as possible here. I urge the company who hosts this to get a stair gate, to re do the carpets and ensure the flat is safe and well maintained before anyone's arrival.

Positive: Breakfast was not included. Negative: The Keys were in a lock box. We could only see one at first, which said Host and stay on the box. We were out in the middle of a thunder storm trying to get the key out of the host and stay box. We did realised we weren't going to achieve this. we got out of the rain in a nearby hotel. The box with the keys in was right up at the top of the boxes. too high for us to get the key out. We found something to stand on. then eventually got them out. we had to climb 64 steps from the steps outside the property right up to the apartment. All though the apartment was really nice, the carpet was really badly stained. The view were stunning too. My friend and I have Asthma, and other chronic conditions. On booking I had not realised about the steps until after I had clicked on pay here. I straight away asked if I could swap to a ground floor apartment. This request was not possible. So I asked if I could have a refund. That request was refused too. I will most probably not stay with Host and stay again.

Good location and clean property but other issues let it down . Positive: I really liked the location of the property being close to the beach and the shops . I really enjoyed the bath as I have had a lot of tension and this has helped with that. I really enjoyed the area and exploring all the little villages nearby with my dog. Negative: I had issues with the water heating and also the internet not working the heading water was fixed the following day but was not nice to arrive to a property without that and also the internet not working whilst I was here due to my health I need regular contact with people and this was an issue I did struggle with the stairs in the property being so high up and the sofa and bed were uncomfortable and needed extra duvets as the other ones on the bed were very thin so this affected my sleep especially when I travelled all that way to try relax which I feel this didn't help with all of that.

Good location, basic provisions and bad plumbing Positive: Good location for exploring Whitby Negative: Noises - whenever someone in another apartment flushed the loo or had a shower there were loud rumbles for about 15 minutes, the smoke alarms went off for no reason and floors were wonky. Mean on loo roll and nothing to wash up with.

Adequate. Positive: The parking permit was a welcome bonus. Negative: Sorry but you need a new cleaner. The carpets needed hoovering, bits everywhere. Also inside kitchen cupboards dirty and no cleaning materials to clean them with so couldn't put stuff inside. The pots and dishes also dirty and needed washing before use. Stains on headboard of the double bed, food encrusted on the placemats, glass dining table greasy and smeary. The whole place felt a bit icky. Bedding and towels were clean though. The bedroom curtain is hanging off the runners It looks a mess and wouldn't close. Also the water/ heating pump seemed to fire up randomly (does it serve the whole building?) with a deafening noise and woke me several times. It would have driven me nuts if I'd stayed any longer.

Positive: Lovely apartment , very comfortable and a fabulous view out of our bedroom window of the Abbey lots of stairs as the apartment was on the top floor, no good for anyone who struggles with stairs , but we were fine , we would stay again Negative: Everything was fine

Stunning view and apartment Positive: Beautiful location, beautiful apartment Negative: 1 bedroom window wouldn’t open and it was extremely hot, the only other downside was all the steps up to the apartment room, my parents ave back and leg issues so between them they struggled slightly

Nice and good location, let down by a few important things Positive: Fairly good location with a parking permit provided which was helpful with a small child with us. 5 minute walk from the beach and town centre - if you don’t mind a steep walk. Apartment is nice and modern overall. Negative: It is much smaller than it looks on the pictures. It says pet friendly but there isn’t much room for anything bigger than a small dog. One very frustrating experience was the endless messages and emails I received after booking. TEN MESSAGES. Sometimes several per day. Really not necessary and quite annoying. I didn’t read a single one fully and still managed to check in fine. The WiFi doesn’t work at all so it shouldn’t be advertised as having any. It didn’t work once in the 3 days we were there. When I did want to message the “host”, I couldn’t. Or had to wait half an hour to send one basic reply. Bedroom is missing a curtain so bright sunlight blares into the room at 5am as the blinds aren’t black out and only one half of the window is covered by the single curtain. Half the windows don’t open and there isn’t aircon so it was cooking at times. There’s a firestick remote but no actual fire stick. But wouldn’t have made a difference if there was one because the WiFi doesn’t work. Not ideal when the phone signal is awful too. No dishwasher (not the end of the world) but supplied with dishwasher tablets… bizarre. Mostly clean but bathroom shower is mouldy. It’s on the top floor of a block of apartments which was fine but would be good to know beforehand. The apartment is up some stairs once in the room door too which are extremely narrow and difficult to carry bags up - again, unavoidable but useful to know for some ahead of arriving as it would be hard to get up if you’re not very mobile.

Clean, comfortable and pleasant. Positive: Lovely modern flat and charming character. Comfortable beds and great shower and bathroom. Decor was nice and in keeping with the location of Whitby. Negative: The stairs are a challenge, probably best suited for younger people as there are 4 flights. After walking up the Whitby hills it was like an endurance test climbing the stairs to the top. Flat was extremely hot in the heat wave and some windows didn’t open, the ones that do only open a small amount, it was stifling hot at the top of the building and a fan or 2 would be a nice addition in hot weather. The Tv only had 5 free view channels and no streaming Netflix, probably because the WiFi is terrible and weak at best.

The sink was dirty with food debris. The bedside lamps were very dusty. The nest had clearly not been cleaned prior to our arrival.

Would not stay again. Positive: The view of the abbey from the window Negative: There was no WiFi. The WiFi you are given a password to did not exsist. The connection was terrible. Everytime the below apartment ran water it made an awful sound in our apartment. The apartment is right at the top and you have to climb a number of flights of stairs. This is not made clear on the advert. The last flight of stairs is extremely steep. I am pregnant and was very difficult. Things were left under the sofa from previous guests. The noise was so loud from the below apartment we could not sleep.

Disappointing Positive: Location. Negative: It was not clean. Very dirty bathroom and everywhere needed a good scrub.

Loved Whitby Host and Stay not so good Negative: The property hadnt been cleaned when we got there. The cleaner arrived 20mins after our timw of arrival. We went out while she cleaned. When we git back there were empty water bittke in bedroom, kitchen, kitchen bin hadnt been emptied. Carpets hadnt been hoovered and dinung table hadnt ben cleaned. Wifi did not work despite sending nessage. Overall did not think the price reflected the above.

While the property itself is clean, comfortable and well furnished the contradictory communications regarding a late check out time was infuriating and farcical. There seemed to be a concreted effort to upsell and too many automated messages that contradicted alternative check out arrangements that were paid for. Lessons need to be learned here. The location is fantastic. The flat could do with a welcome pack with instructions on amenities etc.

Positive: Apartment was clean and tidy ..excellent location .. Very easy ..code provided before we arrived Negative: The 4 flights of stairs up to apartment ..some of the blinds were broke ..curtains were hanging of in certain places ..Asked about parking permits was told they don't provide them and you can't buy them .Parked at least 20 mins away or would have cost over £20 .Even though ther was WiFi you could access it would not connect at all .

Negative: the location was great the apartment was good but the biggest problem for us was the amount of stairs we had to climb to gain entry this needs to be mentioned in the details of the apartment so people are aware of this before they book had we known we would not have booked

Really Happy with the Cosy Nest, comfortable stay and relaxed. Positive: Overall the property looks very homely and definetly loved the decorations and effort of cleanliness. Negative: I didn’t like the steps to the last floor, I was prepared for them as I had seen previous reviews. The 2 problems I had with the property was the wasn’t dishwashing liquid to wash the plates and only provided a small shower gel. way to small for 3 people. I also noticed that the bathroom and kitchen had other areas that was not so clean otherwise we were happy with our stay.

Lovely modern apartment Positive: Its a lovely modern apartment. I booked this apartment after a few glasses of wine amd so didn't see the negative reviews until later. I was so apprehensive, but upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised. It was a modern apartment with good facilities. Negative: The stairs to the apartment are very steep and narrow. The bathroom could have been cleaner, as in the floor needed a mop, but overall OK.

Decent place to stay for a few nights. Carpets had stains and bathmat had black mould. No bottle opener or corkscrew in kitchen. Very narrow steep stairs into property. Great location for accessing Whitby. Paid car parks nearby. Beds comfy and clean.

Great location and nicely decorated. A good size place with a well equipped kitchen. Great views over to the abbey.

Positive: Location was good. Fairly comfortable beds. Negative: No WIFI, and no response from the property owner so was not resolved during our stay. There was a note from the previous bookers, saying the kettle was leaking and unsafe to use. Again, no resolution from the agency or owners. Apartment was pretty grim throughout with pet hair in the cutlery drawer, numerous stains around the property and marks on the walls.

The Nest Positive: Great situation with view of Whitby abbey from window. Good size and well furnished, we had everything we needed. Comfortable bed and property was warm - much needed as weather was freezing. Prompt response from host when we asked a question. Negative: Lots of steps up to apartment. Curtains in bedroom let in light. Also think the batteries on the TV were almost out as it was difficult to change channels.

Was disappointed as the property was great last time we stayed Positive: Been to property before and in good location and was very modern Negative: Was not clean and decor getting grubby. Couldn’t get the shower to work. The lights in the hallway stairs out snd extremely dark on returning home at night

Fair Negative: It needed a good clean , it was tired dead plants and dirty carpets . I understand it's a place used frequently and they do not alway get the time but don't sell yourself short for an extra nights money. It's wasn't ridiculously priced but wasn't cheap at the same time.

A total nightmare, arrived at 4pm check in time, no key in key safe. Phoned and got through after about 10 minutes,. After 15minutes a lady arrived and said she was housekeeping person. her team had reported they couldnt get in earlier as key was not eft by previous occupant. so apartment not cleaned. Home Stay knew about this earlier in the day. They have no spare key. She contacted head office and they said they would send a maintenance guy. We then went off to await further info , Just round the corner lo and behold another group on the steps of a property with the same lady trying to get them in. Again no sparer key but fortunately the previous occupant was nearby and gave the key. About Said they would despatch Someone then called from Hartlepool and said there was someone on their way but not expected for 2 hours then the place would need cleaning. So here we are on the busiest weekend and no idea if we had a bed . Then they cancelled on us . Shambolic!!

Very friendly host, easy check-in & a nice clean and tidy flat. Tastefully furnished and quite modern. Easy to find, great location close to the town and beach, with a view of the abbey from the bedroom windows. One point to note for those visiting by car - as with other reviews there was not a parking permit, luckily we had a local family member's driveway to use. However, parking near the flat is basically impossible as the street parking is full at all times of day, so the lack of permit was really a moot point. If you go past the flat with it on your right, then turn left immediately before the small church, about 50yds down the narrow lane there is a pay and display carpark which is handy to use for unloading (it uses the JustPark app). Overall I would definitely stay again and recommend it

Great location shame about the apartment 🫤 Positive: The location was the best thing about this property Negative: Lots. From pavement to apartment 66 steps to climb. The last stair case is spiral and although there is a hand rail it’s still quite easy to fall. Shower was over the deep bath which was hard to climb over, no hand rail. Lots of dirty stains on the lounge carpet. We had a dirty mark on a hand towel as well. In my opinion this apartment is not suitable if you have mobility problems.

Nice location on top of the cliffs, sweet little flat with views to the abbey and onto the back yards. Decor is a bit tired, carpets need cleaning. Beware the extra fees - the cleaning and the parking all adds up.

Good location but grubby apartment Grubby apartment, hadn’t been cleaned well. Dead plant in a pot in the lounge, a bit of toilet paper on the bathroom floor, stained carpets, filthy baking tray in the drawer. Some of these issues have been reported before but haven’t been sorted. Parking permits no longer given though was told they were by the owner, when we contacted him to ask about parking. A very kind neighbour gave us a permit. Steep narrow stair to the apartment, makes it difficult carrying suitcases and shopping.

Disappointing Positive: Lovely property but not clean Negative: The standard of cleaning was poor - dust on skirting boards, dust on window sills and hairs in bathroom. The property was supposed to provide a parking permit but housekeeping forgot and I was told I’d get one the next day but didn’t- this caused huge stress and meant we couldn’t unload our luggage near the property and had to waste valuable time looking for a parking spot and then trudging our luggage to the property.

Comfortable stay in a cosy flat situated close to main strip in Whitby, cafes, restaurants and arcades all close by. Rea Positive: The location of the property was excellent, the main strip in Whitby, cafes, restaurants , arcades, shops etc were accessible in less than 10 minutes. The flat was very quiet considering it was located close to the centre of Whitby, there were no seagulls to be heard and this helped us to stay rested. The beds were very comfy and rooms were cosy. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and free tea, coffee, sugar and milk sachets in fridge were a bonus. Iron and hairdryer were also available. Parking permit was a bonus especially when we finally got it. Negative: We enquired prior to visiting if a parking permit was available for W Zones. After several enquiries, we were provided with one the following day. At the time of writing, we were assured we would get reimbursed for what we had to spend parking elsewhere for a day. It was inconvenient but we got there in the end. Also it wouldn’t hurt to run a duster over the paintwork but it was mostly quite clean.

Great location and great place to stay for a long weekend.

They need to get a new cleaning company as the property wasn’t clean. Past people hair all over bathroom and bedroom floors. £60 cleaning fee is added on when you book but everything needs a good deep clean. They send out the cleaners again the day after but still felt unclean. Great location

Positive: Great location Negative: Grim at best needs new carpets and sofa discussing.the whole place needs a really good clean.

The decor was lovely and just like the pictures but small things needed cleaning better, the bin smelt bad, there was old stains all over the carpets, there was a hole in the wall, there were scuffs all over the walls, the pictures showed the nice decor but maybe not how small it was. There was also no pictures of the hall way you must walk up to get to the flat which doesn’t match the decor at all and only one light worked from the bottom floor right to the top.

Bright top floor apartment Positive: Great location and bright and breezy top floor apartment in a lovely old victorian townhouse. Comfortable bed and good to have the kitchenette which was well equipped (although no washing up liquid which was a bit annoying for a 2 night stay). Negative: There were hidden fees for cleaning and a damage waiver which were not apparent on booking. Little information was provided about location and the key box code was not provided- I had to call to get this. The apartment was advertised as having parking but the parking permit was not there and no one responded to our call to locate it. The flat was decorated nicely but pale carpet was stained making it look a bit grubby despite everything else being clean.

The location is great, quiet but only a short walk into town for restaurants, bars and views of the Abbey. Apartment clean but carpets and sofa could do with some attention, rather stained. Could also do with some washing up liquid being provided and spare toilet roll. Overall, would recommend for a long weekend in Whitby.

Don't book with Host and Stay. Positive: The flat itself is light, bright and prettily decorated in calm colours. It is quiet (save for the pump for the hot water, which you get the noise of even when it is the flat below using their shower). It has the potential to be a lovely place to stay. The bed is very comfy, and the heating on the north-facing side is brilliant (it was less predictable in the bedroom, but we ended up leaving the bathroom and bedroom door open overnight to let the heat circulate to overcome the issue. The heating in the small (single) bedroom didn't work at all and the thermostat on the radiator is unmoveable). Negative: Host and Stay are frankly awful to deal with. All they care about is the damage waiver. The parking was a fiasco and they couldn't have cared less. Unfortunately the Flat was really quite grubby. There remained bacon grease on the baking tray in the oven from a previous occupant. The floor in the kitchen was sticky and dirty. The cutlery draw was filthy. There were coffee rings on the side table in the lounge, and crumbs and receipts from previous occupants on the dining table. There were layers of grime on the lunge windowsill. The skirting boards were dusty. The bathroom floor and bath still had other people's hair in it. The bins were filthy. The carpet in the lounge in particular was covered in stains. The lighting up the communal stairs in the building does not work save at ground floor level (dangerous in the dark). The other thing is that given the cost of the accommodation, you are given the absolute bare minimum. There was no washing up liquid or sponge. No bin bags. No hand-soap in the bathroom. 5 teabags for the two of us for the 3 nights, and 6 milk sachets (very environmentally unfriendly!). One toilet roll. No kitchen roll. A 30 ml sachet each of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner.

Very clean and in a great location - only a few minutes away from the beach

Positive: NA Negative: unable to collect keys after a five hour drive and very difficult to park which took further hour and a half. uninviting front garden and entrance hall and front door again uninviting, had to contact host and stay to report situation regarding keys so had to wait another half hour for representative to arrive. we were not told about the bond or the insurance until we had had paid for the booking. overall cleanliness of apartment was poor. there was no stickers on wall for fire escape instructions which is very poor in my opinion and surely with it being a top floor attic apartment there should be fire escape instructions.

Great location for the beach and shops/ cafes - we had a great weekend. However not as clean as we would have expected for the host taking a £250 deposit 2-weeks before the trip.

Apartment in great location. Within walking distance to everything. Parking permit included which was great. Rubbish left behind from previous guests and surfaces dusty. But otherwise a nice place to stay.

Whitby - Gorgeous, Host & Stay - Shocking Positive: The decor Negative: The property was filthy, clearly the cleaning team hadn’t been cleaned properly, soil in the windows, tea stains on the bin, stains on the carpet and sofa and to top it off there was a long brown hair left in the bed, obviously the sheets hadn’t been changed. Also; there was damage through out, they ask for £250 from each guest to cover any damages, clearly just pocketing the money themselves. I am currently trying to get a refund for the cleaning fee as it was a disgrace, waiting on hearing back from the ceo, the staff were extremely unhelpful over email, I would not recommend this company and they should be removed from this site. UPDATE: The Host & Stay Complaints Team were on top of this pretty sharpish, after the guest services team quickly shut down any idea of a refund for the cleaning fee the complaints team were more than happy to reimburse this so thank you for this, it's very much appreciated. I would recommend to anyone who has had the same problem with this property to reach out to the complaints team. I will say though, expect to pay for parking when you arrive.

A great time, let down by inefficiency of Host & Stay agency. Positive: Location was ideal. Beds were very comfortable with a great view of Whitby Abbey. Would have been even better with Juliet balcony so we could sit out and look at the view. Kitchen and bathroom clean and tidy. No dishwasher (although tablets supplied!). Negative: Biggest problem was no parking voucher supplied. As it was Whitby Regatta weekend, this was even more of an issue that it would ordinarily have been. By the time the 'chat' facility on Host & Stay (managing agency) had responded we had had to pay full parking for the duration of the stay - and further away from the property than we would have had to. The timeliness of response was very poor, and we were left out of pocket by almost £20 as a result. Not the end of the world, but frustrating. It will make me reluctant to use Host & Stay agency again. Lounge carpets were old and rucked up and in need of cleaning / replacing. Again, not the end of the world, but property felt a bit bashed around. Also, there are *a lot* of stairs - not a surprise for Whitby, but be warned!

Unpleasant and wouldn’t book with host & stay again Positive: Bathroom was clean and tidy and well decorated. Negative: Entrance was dirty and smelled the entrance stairs was way to steep. Stains on carpets dirty walls throughout the property. Nothing like the photos on the site. Bird poo on windows and curtains that didn’t go fully across in bedroom.

Very good location for a short stay in Whitby - Skinner Street in particular feels hidden away from the hustle and bustle with nice cafes and bars. Also close to the beach. Lovely view from the abbey from the bedroom.

Nice cosy appartment close to centre with train station and supermarket, park with childrens play area, and tourist hotspots.

Ideally placed, everything you need for a couple of days away. Whitby is nostalgic . Positive: Easy to enter, though the 64 steps may not appeal to some people, especially when you are load bearing. However, lovely views because of the steps! Negative: The stain marked carpet.

Negative: The carpets where very worn, stained and when we got there the property looked liked the carpets hadn't been cleaned. I had to get the hoover out dust on the skirting boards.

Positive: Spacious .had everything that was needed, great views Negative: When you opened the windows there was lots of dirt on the inside of frames. Lots of noise from the water boilers in building.

The photos of the appartment look lovely but it needs new carpets and an inspection for cleanliness Negative: Apartment had not been cleaned or hoovered hairs all over especially the bathroom it was disgusting. Black footprint on single bed sheet, dining table dirty and dusty living room carpet covered in stains and front steps to the entrance of the building were dirty and not cleaned .Also the windows were dirty and did not look like they had been cleaned in a while.

Positive: Lovely and clean, fresh and bright. Rooms were spacious, and the kitchen well equipped Staff and owner quick to a boiler issue and very helpful!
