Lovely stay at the Beacon in Goathland. The lodge is decorated, furnished to a high standard. The beds are very comfortable. The water is hot. The only thing that was missing for me personally is a bath robe/dressing gown. The area is stunning! Great for walking, or visiting nearby Whitby/Staithes etc. We will definitely go back in warmer weather as we missed the steam train. Thank you for the lovely stay, clear directions and easy straightforward check in/out.

We did have a few minor issues when we first arrived, but they did not detract from our stay at this lovely cottage. So on the negative side, no heating or hot water on arrival due to a boiler fault. The microwave and some crockery had been left dirty by a previous guest. On the plus side the cottage is beautifully decorated and very comfortably furnished. Its in the perfect location with views of open moorland from the bedroom windows, and walks straight from the door. Its a few minutes walk into the village centre and 10 minutes to the steam railway. We wouldn't hesitate to book this cottage again.

We visit Goathland multiple times per year, and this is one of the nicest places we’ve stayed. Pubs all in walking distance, cafe, bus stop across the road. Great walks on the doorstep. Amazing views, and a gorgeous cottage. We didn’t want to leave. All the rooms were decorated beautifully, modern, but a cottage feel. Had everything we needed. We’d definitely stay again. Highly recommend. Oh, beds were so comfortable too.

If you are looking for a base whilst visiting Goathland or the surrounding areas this property is perfect! The views from both bedrooms are stunning. There is everything you need in the property and the location is just across the road to start the walk to Mallyan Sprout Waterfall and it’s a 15 minute walk (max) to the train station.

The lodge is beautifully decorated and furnished, comfy bed, great deep free standing bath. Moorland walks 2 mins away. Great pub meal at the mallyan spout 2 mins across the road. Lots of amenities provided in the lodge. Goathland village is a 15 min walk away. Ample private parking. However as we were the 1st guests to stay in the lodge there was a few minor negatives. The blue sofa is not very comfy. A blind / curtain is needed on the entrance door for privacy on an evening. A larger mirror is needed in the bedroom. Otherwise we had a brilliant stay.

Great location, clean inside and nice facilities inside. Great for a small family, we would definitely stay again.

Lovely place looks exactly like the photos. Gorgeous inside felt like 5 star. Very clean, all that let it down as the kitchen appliances I.e pans weren’t very clean so probably just need a check when it’s cleaned as can’t rely on previous guests to clean them well! Otherwise spotless and gorgeous throughout. Bed very comfy. WiFi did keep dropping at night which was an issue as we have an owlet sock monitoring our baby and it didn’t work , also couldn’t watch TV. It was windy one night but wasn’t the best service throughout. However Goathland is a no signal zone which we appreciate. Perfect location for exploring the moors and enjoying the railway. 5 stars would stay again

We loved our stay at the lodge. Beautiful peaceful location - our little boy loved waking up to the sheep at his window! Great base for exploring the areas

Fabulous location and beautiful residence. The quality of the fixtures was very high and confortable the bedrooms were Positive: Beautiful decor - very high end quality. Negative: 3 tea bags provided and only 1 tea towel, which didn’t appear clean. A small welcome pack including a little fresh milk would have been appreciated. I know it’s self catering but for such lovely accommodation, I think this would go a long way with visitors.

We stayed for short break. Dark when we arrived so was a little difficult to find (our fault), but easy access. Lovely interior, comfy beds (slept brilliantly). Lovely, peaceful, scenic area, ideally located for walkers, cyclists, attractions/places to visit.

A very peaceful break A truly lovely accommodation and we found it to be spotlessly clean. Very well equipped with light, moder with all high end fixtures and fittings throughout. Gorgeous views from both bedrooms. The TV as mentioned in other reviews is not that straightforward as all we needed was live BBC or ITV, we could only find Iplayer or ITVx, plenty of TV apps though. That said we weren't desperate to watch the TV anyway. We were a party of four adults all in our 70s and had booked just a two night break, we would gladly return but would have preferred a walk in shower as the bath (with overhead and hand held showers) is quite high and deep with no hand rail to help to assist with climbing in and out along with glass screen doors we all felt it was possibly an accident waiting to happen, that was our only negative but had we been staying longer it would have proven to be a very big negative. Great parking, nice to have the outside table and chairs too! We were met on arrival by Ben the owner who just happened to at home next door we were greeted very warmly and told if we needed anything he would be only to happy to help. All in all a great place, sadly not having the walk in shower was our only reason for not returning in the future.

Had a great weekend in Goathland with a fab walk. The cottage was the perfect size and location for us (2 couples) for 2 nights - Goathland has 3 pubs and a couple of cafes so is well catered for. Nice touches were phone chargers in the bedroom and lounge and a smart tv. Kitchen had what we needed (although we didn’t cook) and shower was perfect. Plenty of parking out the front. Everything was clean and tidy and access was easy with clear communication from the host.

A beautifully decorated comfortable and cosy cottage, right in the centre of Goathland. Opposite Homestead Kitchen, which was perfect for our visit. The bedrooms and space were very comfortable and the kitchen had great facilities. Our only small bump along the way was that there was no salt or oil left to cook our dinner, so we would recommend taking a small hamper of basics to use in the kitchen. We would very happily return! Thanks for having us!

We really enjoyed our stay at the lodge. The accommodation is clean, tidy, warm, with comfortable bedrooms and modern facilities. The kitchen is well stocked. The fixtures and fittings all feel premium. The rooms heat up quickly if you need a heating boost. The surroundings are quiet and it is a great place for walkers to base themselves. The only thing I would have liked is some outdoor furniture as the outside is a sun trap and a great wind break. We had perfect weather so this little extra would have been most welcome. However, we would stay again and recommend it to others.

Lovely house in a great setting. We had a snowy weekend but that didn't stop us as the roads were really well cleared. Lovely breakfast in Goathland and a pub just across the road for dinner. Everything as described, comfortable and cosy.

Was beautiful - Hotel with pub across the road, lovely village shops, tea room, amazing views out of bedroom and living room, the decoration was amazing, lovely body washes, soaps, all the attention to detail - everything you needed in the kitchen to cook meals.. short drive into Whitby - and amazing sunsets!!!!!

Beautiful little cottage in a tranquil location. Unfortunately the property was not very clean- dust and cobwebs were the common theme throughout which was a real shame.

Disappointingly dirty Positive: We loved the location and the beautiful village. The cottage has been decorated to a very high standard and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. Sadly what let's the owner down is the management company host and stay who manage the property and the cleaning. The day before we were booked to go the village was closed due to the snow and no access possible...it made the national news. The company did kindly contact the owner to ask if we could change the dates if it was still inaccessible but we did manage to get there thanks to having a 4x4. And there sadly the positives end and I fell terrible for the owner having to write all the issues but it is clear that host and stay simply are not interested. Negative: We stayed for 2 nights and the accomodation was filthy. I spent over an hour cleaning before we could settle in for the weekend. a real disappointment when the cottage is so beautifully decorated by the owner. I did not ring the company on arrival as has been suggested that I should have done by them so that they could send a cleaner out as I just wanted to get it clean and be able to relax. No cleaner could have arrived at that time and under such short notice to be enable us to try and enjoy the weekend. Plus what kind of employer would put their team at risk travelling to such a location late at night in such terrible weather conditions...snow and ice. List of issues... Bathroom Dirty cloth, dried and musty on the window ledge Dirty toilet brush Dirty toilet seat Shower pipe black Pubic hair in the bath Dirty toothbrush holder Kitchen  Coffee grinds left in cafettiere Dirty utensil drainer Dirty drainer Dirty sink Dirty worktop near sink Dirty oven trays Dirty frying pan Dirty crockery and cutlery and cups.  Had to wash everything we were going to use No instructions on how to use oven, dishwasher and washer/dryer Room Dirty throw Hall and 1st bedroom  Dirty rugs .. had to roll up and put to one side they were so filthy  Everywhere ..... Cobwebs.  I hope the owner is able to read this and can arrange for a deep clean andy advice....get a different management company as host and stay are really letting you down.

Modern, clean and beautifully decorated cottage in stunning surroundings. Walks in all directions from the front gate and walkable to local pubs and tea shops. We only stayed a couple of nights but could see there being an issue with the lack of food cupboard space in the kitchen for longer stays.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Lodge. The property was modern, clean and well appointed. Any questions we had prior to our visit were answered promptly. We loved the peace and quiet and the location was excellent, a 10 minute walk to a few shops and a bit further to Goathland train station. We would definitely return and would recommend staying here.

we had slight trouble with the location. when booking the property was called The Lodge, on checking in before leaving home it was called Memorial Cottages and on arrival when we finally found it, it was called The Beacon. all very confusing. we had a problem with no water one night, and Host and Stay were very helpful in getting a plumber to come out at 11pm to help. he managed to get us cold water and then we had to wait until the next evening for a heating engineer to come and sort out the hot water. all not ideal but at least it was dealt with.

Positive: Location and very cosy property Negative: No internet/TV first night. Cobwebs in bedroom, and cleaner showed up at 9.30 when check out wasnt until 10. She didn't enter the property but parked outside getting her things out. Which added pressure to vacating the property

If I return to Goathland i will happily book again. Positive: Location is great with a short walk to village/train station. Close to Mallyan spout hotel which had fantastic food if you don’t fancy cooking each night. Decor is great and has been well thought out. Negative: Steps to bathroom could be an issue at night for some but I think the sensor lights being implemented in the hallway is a great solution. T.V not the most user friendly, Aerial/sat signal if possible for live channel switching instead of internet/app signing in to watch. Can be an faff/issue for non tech savvy guests. Not a end of the world issue

Lovely weekend getaway Positive: Lovely location as not far from village centre , and close to what we wanted to do, very clean and tidy Negative: No cupboard space to put supplies, had to leave on counter tops, maybe could have used cups and glasses shelf by moving things around, found one sofa a bit uncomfortable and struggled to get tv to do what we wanted, but think that was our issue as we are not the best on technology things.

Lovely accommodation in a beautiful location but beware the steps! Positive: Comfortable, clean, spacious. Goathland is a hidden gem! A surprisingly busy town with some lovely restaurants and cafes and amazing to see the. Sheep grazing everywhere! Negative: The steps! There are three separate pairs of steps in the property and there is not a way to not have to use them. As soon as we arrived we knew they would be dangerous for night time visits to the bathroom. Sure enough, night 2 half asleep going to the bathroom I went flying down the steps landing hard on my knees and hitting my head. Definitely was concussed. Thankfully ok now but beware of this if you book here.

The perfect stay in a great location. Pubs and beautiful walks right on your doorstep. The decor was lovely and it was clean and tidy. Would definitely recommend a stay if you are looking for a wholesome little trip away.

Lovely peaceful retreat Positive: The accommodation was in a peaceful location on the edge of the village. It was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The decor was beautiful and modern. Negative: There was no telephone signal at the accomodation so all communications were on WiFi. One of the bedrooms was quite dark so great for sleep but difficult to do other things.

We had a lovely, relaxing stay at The Beacon in Goathland. It was easy to find and access. The place was well furnished and had everything we needed.

We had a great time at the Lodge. This is an excellent place to stay and is ideally situated to enjoy the coast and surrounding countryside. The accommodation is to a very high standard and is well equipped. The courtyard is sheltered and a good place to soak up the sun with a table and chairs. We would thoroughly recommend the Lodge and look forward to returning for another holiday. Anthony

Beautiful place, excellent position, lots of walks from the property. Private and very quiet.
