Horrible place to stay and uncooperative owner Negative: The property had issues with bad smell. It shouldn't have been marketed until the issue of bad smell was sorted. When I checked in, I noticed that the property was filled with very strong, pungent bad smell. I opened windows, I thought it will go away but it was coming from the apartment itself. When I raised that with the owner through the chat, they replied that they can help if I find the source of the smell (this shows that they were aware of the smell, tried to sort it but could't find source of it), I couldn't find the source of the smell and called the customer services again, from my conversation with them I noticed that the cleaners had raised that issue as well but the owner didn't bother to get the issue sorted. They couldn't help either, my family and I were forced to live in that apartment that night as there was no time to go elsewhere. We couldn't sleep for a second, the smell was too overwhelming. Next morning, I talked to the customer services and they said they will send someone, we couldn't go anywhere because we have to wait for that person from property management. That person came around 1-1.30 and he also agreed that the smell was too overwhelming to stay, he passed that to the customer service people, the smell was 'raw sewer' like in his own words. He couldn't sort it out despite being in the property for 1 hour. We had no choice but to check out of the property. I informed the customer service and they told me that they will refund my money back. After 20 days I still didn't get anything back. My holiday was ruined and the whole experience was horrible.

Very pleasant stay with my family. I believe that the apartment could have been cleaner. Positive: The location and the layout of the apartment Negative: The lack of available parking.

Enjoyed our stay in a relaxing environment. Just outside the city walls so close to amenities. Positive: Location was excellent for walking about York. Quiet location. Apartment was clean and spacious. Negative: I know not everyone wants to cook, but I was making breakfast only and there was a very small frying pan. It would be good to have hypoallergenic bedding as my son's asthma was very bad. Can't complain because we didn't advise before but thought it worth noting.

not recommended because of awful experience in self check-in and strong new house smell Positive: new house with good facilities and kitchen equipment. Room is big enough and quite clean. Negative: The service manager didn't send me the detail address of the apartment and self checking process via email so I had to check with them on the phone back and forth to get the address and check-in guide when I arrived in the block. The most terrible part was I had to play the puzzle game to find the code and key in a so called bike store. Finally it took me 1 hour to enter into the house with the help from one neighbour. Is it difficult to post a sign on the wall or door to instruct the customer find the key quickly? How desprate when I was still looking for a key at 10:00pm with 2 kids and luggages! If you look for convenient and comfortable travel experience, I won't recommend this apartment despite it is quite new

Great property in superb location but let down by lack of care an maintenance by holiday letting company. Positive: Great location with parking just a short stroll from the centre of York. Superb for a short break with the children as so much more space than a hotel. Negative: Not very clean (hairs all over window ledge and in bathroom), 2 of 4 bedside lights and ceiling light in dressing area not working so had to buy our own lightbulbs. Balcony doors didn’t lock so property is not secure.

Beautiful apartment in fabulous location. Positive: Property is located near to centre. Apartment had everything you needed and was done very tastefully. A good place to catch up with friends. Negative: Getting into car park was very difficult as all the surrounding streets are one way or have bollards, so took a lot of time to get parked. Key safe was a little tricky for opening. There is a smell in the apartment which isn't very pleasant so maybe drains need some attention.

A very comfortable short break in historic York Positive: The apartment is spacious with the 2 bedrooms and bathrooms which is what my friend and I were looking for. The location is in a quiet residential area with hardly any traffic noise and unlike a previous review we had absolutely NO nasty smells of any sort, in fact the apartment was spotlessly clean on arrival Negative: More detailed instructions on how to operate the heating system in the information pack would have been helpful otherwise my fried and I were both very happy with the standard of the apartment

Loved the decor.everything you need a real home from home Negative: Unfortunately there was a really bad smell throughout the apartment It hit you has soon has you walked in. Surely the cleaners would have been aware. Lots of flies in ensuite bathroom too we think there is a sewer problem because it was worse when water used ie showers and toilets.

A relaxing but tiring York adventure with friends. Positive: It was ideally situated for exploring York and the location was in a nice quiet area, so the sunny evenings spent on the balcony were very pleasant indeed. Negative: The property was set out beautifully so there was nothing we didn’t like.

We had an excellent stay St John’s Mews. It’s in a short walking distance of the city where there is plenty to do. Stayed for a long weekend in Christmas markets and the location and facilities were perfect.

Positive: Great little duplex apartment set in a residential block 5 minutes walk from the Minster and City centre.. We stayed as a family group for 5 nights over Christmas. The apartment was spotlessly clean and well equiped for a self catering stay. Plenty of grocery, take-away, pub and restaurant opportunities in the immediate vicinity. Negative: As mentioned by others the key collection from the bike store could have been easier. Clearer instructions with images would have prevented us searching in the dark, around the wrong bike store. We were also supplied with the incorrect door code for the communal entrance, only resolved following both text messages and a phone call.

It’s always nice to visit York at Christmas Positive: A Modern, clean well furnished apartment in a good location. The apartment was lovely and warm which was good after a day walking around York in -2 degrees! Negative: Minor niggle, main light and lamp in both bedrooms not working and bedside table legs loose, things that should have been sorted by the house keeper

A Birthday Break for two. Positive: The apartment was easily accessible and comfortable. The location was great with the centre of York being a short walk away. The single parking bay was perfectly adequate as we only had one car. Negative: Having used a similar cooker there was no problem with the controls BUT the pans provided were totally inadequate for the hob. The one frying pan (we used it for stir frying) that worked, wobbled and only heated up once it was at a certain angle; the larger pan just didn't work. A shame both bathrooms steamed up; we've stayed at another address at the Mews and that was much better all round. We did a shop and had to obtain additional toilet paper and kitchen towels. We also had to get a kitchen "scrubber" and cloth. I didn't understand why the settee and chairs were opposite the kitchen area, whilst the table and chairs were by the window leading to the balcony. O

Was dubious about booming this place as they asked for a security deposit off site. Airbnb assured me they were reputable. The flat was lovely but I made sure to video and photo the stains already on the carpet as £250 is a large deposit for damages. Instructions were terrible. The flat was not easy to find as it us not in the main building entrance. There is no permit. The parking instructions didn't say we needed one and there wasn't one anyway. We got 2 car parking fines despite following the badly written instructions . This company has obviously never been to this flat. My short 3 day break with my partner was broken by having to call hours between companies and Airbnb and their poor customer service line that had zero idea of this flat and messages etc. Totally ruined my trip. The only saving grace is the flat is nice. And they're going to reimburse the parking fines I received. But I'll have to wait two weeks, just like I have to wait two weeks for my deposit

York adventure Positive: Marvellous location, contemporary little flat . Clean and tidy well maintained. Great little kitchen with excellent appliances. Negative: Mattresses and pillows and bit below par . But im fussy when it comes to sleep .

Positive: Everything. Very cosy, very quiet which is very important to me, and a very short walk to the town.

Great place, great location and very comfortable

We had a lovely time in York, the flat is very stylish and the living area very comfortable.There were a few things to be aware of though.There's a bad smell downstairs in both bathrooms (at it's worst in the ensuite). We couldn't figure out whether it was the plumbing or the fan/aircon. I alerted Host & Stay to this, so hopefully it will have been dealt with.The clothes horse only has 3 legs. It still functions if you prop it up, but it only just qualifies as the advertised drier.The knife set is not fit for purpose, they're dreadful - especially the bread knife, which is actually pointless. The pan set is really scratched and the frying pan doesn't work on an induction hob, so can't be used. The instructions for the hob are only in Spanish. This all meant we ended up eating out more than intended (tricky and expensive). All 3 of us have different dietary issues which is why we book self catering holidays - this property feels like it isn't intended for families or anyone wanting to be away for longer than a weekend, despite saying it is.A cheese grater and some sort of measuring receptacle would be beneficial at the property - I wouldn't agree that there are "ample utensils".There was no cupboard for guests to put their food, which if you're staying longer than a couple of nights you really need. Not enough hand towels and waaay too many texts from the host leading up to the stay.The beds were comfortable and the flat is lovely and spacious, with a nice feel to it.

Spacious, clean apartment, private. Walk to city roughly 12 mins. Great for a short stay.

Very enjoyable for us all. Positive: Comfort, cleanliness and the amenities. Negative: The fans in the bathroom and radiators in the en suite didn’t appear to work properly.

Central location, a five minute walk from the city walls. The parking spot was excellent for larger cars as next to the turning area.

Host and stay was great. It was so close to town 10 minute walk. You can see York minster is on your door step practically. The accommodation is great, nice and clear. It was a great family for myself mum and 2 sisters. We chose this place as it had packing and looked on the map to be walking distance and exceeded our expectations. The ensuite is a great addition to the big bathroom/shower it already had. I would definitely stay here again. I will be recommending it to my friends and family and cannot wait to come again.

Lovely apartment, location great, plus a balcony. A couple of 'niggles' but a great stay nevertheles Positive: Location perfect. Balcony a great addition considering the weather. Generally very happy overall. Negative: No cupboard for food storage. Bathroom bin hadn't been emptied. Frying pan wouldn't work on the hob. Large iron burn on bedroom carpet, covered by rug, but carpet should be repaired or replaced. Sheets had a couple of unidentifiable marks on them.

Perfect weekend stay in a quiet location not far from town 👌 Positive: Location was very good as we were in york for a wedding in the hopsitum in the museum gardens. So very short taxi rides but normally a short walk into the town. Recommend to anyone who is able to walk. The master bedroom was a perfect firm bed for myself. Spotless bedding and calming bedroom decor. Per Negative: A few better catering utensils would be good and the en suite shower heads need cleaning. Also difficult to find by car as so many streets have bollards across. Instructions on Host and stay are wrong about key in bike shed to open bollards, but there is no bollards. We had to ask a neighbour how to get to the building. A map of how to get through the town by car would be a help.

Thank you for the most fabulous stay in this fabulous apartment. We felt right at home and it was well designed with everything we needed. Walking distance of the centre it couldn’t have been easier. We were so at home we didn’t want to leave and will definitely be back. Perfect for couples to relax on the balcony and talk through the events of the day.

Very nice and comfortable apartment. Basically cleaned but dusty around the windows and blinds. Spacious with comfortable beds and furniture. Only had one bath towel each for a week and shared one hand towel between two. Could never get towels dry because dryer didn’t dry properly and heated towel rails turn off too soon. Great location easy walking distance to the city and walls. Only major complaint is the management company: After promising to provide a fresh set of linens and towels at time of booking, for a change-over of guests, he then REFUSED AND FALSELY ACCUSED us of breaching the occupancy limit, forcing our friends to stay in a hotel for 3 days, so second bedroom was empty.

This a fantastic apartment that is a mere 10 minutes walk from the heart of York. It is a beautiful well equipped apartment in a very quiet location. There is so much to see and do in York, and all an easy walk from the apartment. We walked everywhere including the railway museum. My car satnav let me down getting to the private carpark due to the oneway system and pedestrianisation. But local advice was to switch to phone maps and I got to the private carpark immediately.

Great apartment. Positive: Great location. Lovely, bright, clean and comfortable apartment. Really loved the upstairs living area. Negative: Was a bit of a game to find the place, but all good when we did find it.

Excellent location for York Positive: Location was excellent, five minutes and you were in the centre. Very quiet to say you were so close. All that you needed for a short stay was there. Negative: Wouldn't say it was a dislike, oven and hob were awkward to operate and no instructions in English to help.

Lovely modern apartment in a great location Positive: Very clean apartment. Extremely comfortable. Good communication with the owner. Negative: Only 1 parking space meaning we had to pay over £40 to park the second car.

Positive: The location for visiting York was excellent. A 5 minute walk and you’re there. Easy to find, clean and comfortable. Perfect for a short stay.

A clean modern apartment in a great location only 10 minutes walk to historic York and all it’s restaurants and pubs

We had a lovely stay at in York, the apartment was clean, well appointed, modern and a good location. The only issue was the unclear information provided at check in regarding the parking instructions, resulting in me receiving a parking fine. The instructions told me to park in the private parking bay, there was no mention about requiring a permit, however after complaining, it was then explained to me that hidden within a web link provided as ‘additional information about your stay’ the permit was mentioned. This information also does not state where inside the property the permit is located! This was only brought to my attention after I complained about the parking fine, and was explained in a way that made it out to be my fault. Very disappointing. I am now waiting for my parking ticket to be refunded.

St John’s Mews was a great location 10 mins walk to city. One car park space. The apartment was very homely and well laid out. Beds were very comfortable. We ate out for most meals just had snacks but kitchen looked well equipped. Oven could have done with a good clean but we never used that or the coffee machine. Only down side for us was no where to put any food apart from fridge/freezer no cupboard space at all we made do with leaving it in our shopping bag! The apartment is obviously in a residential building so we did have a bit of issue with the guy underneath who had difficulty with his door and needed to slam repeatedly when he entered late at night and exited before 8 in the morning! The apartment is great for exploring York and very comfortable. I’d definitely use this apartment again.

This self contained beautiful property is so great lovely and clean , would surely stay there again.

Positive: How comfy the beds were. 10 minute walk from the centre. The appartment was very clean and had everything in it that you needed to stay there. Negative: How cold it was in the lounge as the one radiators weren't working , the offensive smell in both bathrooms. These issues were made known to the owner who did offer to send someone out to look at the bathrooms , we declined their offer as we were out all day, both doors were kept closed during our stay

Positive: Comfy beds and good location. Negative: Difficult to find car park due to one way roads and bollards.

Negative: The place ABSOLUTELY STUNK of sewage/decaying bodies. The company gave us some warning but nothing was done about it despite it clearly being an issue for a guest the week before and them promising to try and rectify. They failed to offer any fair resolution. It ruined the whole stay as it was completely overwhelming. Do not stay here unless you've completely lost your sense of smell.

The St. John's Mews was a lovely place to stay. Easy check-in and out. The apartment size was perfect and having laundry was fantastic.

Very clean, comfortable and spacious! Positive: The property met all our expectations, very clean and comfortable and lots of space. A perfect location to explore York . Negative: One minor issue was that there was a peculiar smell to the bathroom that spread into the bedroom, possibly a drain issue. We slept with the windows open to allow circulation of fresh air which helped.

Negative: Finding our apartment was a problem, it was pouring with rain and not very well sign posted. It was made clear about putting a ticket in the window for parking resulting in us getting a parking ticket

Quiet location. Clean and reasonably comfortable apartment. Ridiculous key box almost impossible to open Positive: Location close to York city. Nicely furnished if not particularly comfortable living room furniture. Negative: Couldn’t find the property. In the end refuse collectors helped us! New bollards making driving to the place quite tricky. Great confusion over a parking space. Yes I would be able to park; no I wouldn’t be able to park; yes I would; no I would need to go to pay and display in city!! At around £30/£40 a day! Really? Finally very helpful young woman on phone said I could park in space number 9. Didn’t know there would be stairs to property and no lift - with suitcases and we’re both in our 70’s. Why was this not made clear? Then more stairs inside property. Why was THIS not made clear.

Convenient and clean! Positive: Great location for getting into city centre. Place was super clean too! Negative: Maybe a few extra pieces in the kitchen would have been useful - kitchen towel, sponge, that sort of thing.

Very lovely stay! The apartment was in a great location, just a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The balcony was a lovely addition to the flag especially in the warm weather we had during our stay. The check in process was mostly smooth, however we phoned up about parking and the woman we spoke to did not know about our parking situation. It would have been good to know there was already a parking permit in our flat. The flat was fairly clean thought there were marks on the desk in one of the bedrooms and lots of dust on the bedside tables. The outside table also wasn’t clean. The beds were spotless however and the flat was beautifully decorated. Overall it was a very lovely stay and I would recommend this place if you’re staying in York.

Absolutely brilliant, perfect location, great accessability & all the kitchen appliances you'd need. Positive: The location was great, easy to get into the city centre by walking the beautiful streets in the area. Really friendly and welcoming people. And a few little shops just around the corner so loads of convenient options to stock up available or to go out for food. I would certainly recommend staying and will be using the property next time I'm due to be staying in the area. Negative: The property itself was great, however, due to the number of bollards blocking so many of the roads it does make it a little tricky navigate to the parking area. Parking permit was in a photo frame I walked straight past at the entrance to the apartment and the bay number is different to the appartment number. The front door for the appartment is around the corner from the car park and there isn't really a path to walk round the building or sign pointing in the direction to state the direction, although there is a grass area to walk around or out through the little gate to the path along the road and down to the next gate.

Positive: It looks exactly as pictured. Lovely space, well designed. Negative: The beds aren't very comfortable and the pillows are awful.

Lovely comfortable stay in the perfect location not far from the city centre Positive: We all loved the property. Everyone got their own bathrooms. And we loved the balcony, even though it was November/December we still managed to sit outside on the Saturday evening. Negative: Parking permits. We were told we had to park in a local car park, and when I asked about parking permits which was mentioned in the facilities of the property I was told there wasn’t one and we’d have to stay in the car park. But then we found the parking permit on the hallway unit. This need to be explained better. I did ask to speak to a manager but got ignored on the subject!

Once we got in, after 45minutes and phone calls it was all good Positive: Location and how clean it was Negative: It was impossible to use the code lock to access the key safe. Also the door code to access the building was incorrect so we could get the keys or get into the building. We were told the code lock was tricky it wasnt it was broken. Video to prove it.

Enjoyable and relaxing. Would definitely stay again. Positive: Central location. |Spacious, clean and comfortable. Negative: Gaining access to the bike shed to collect and deposit the property key was problematic both on arrival and departure. I think the entry code to the shed is faulty. Even the housekeeper had difficulty with this on the morning of departure.

Could have been great. Positive: Location to city centre. Negative: Funky smell in apartment. Beds are uncomfortable. I specifically asked if there was parking at the apartment, to be told No. So we parked in a car park a few minutes walk away, which cost £45 for 2 days. Once inside, there is a parking permit for the private car park! Information given from hosts was unreliable, and their customer services is non-existent.

Great apartment, bad customer service Positive: Apartment was beautiful and spacious, excellent location. Negative: There was no hot water for duration of our stay. They didn't answer the phone, only email, which was delayed. Such a shame because apartment and location was beautiful but customer service terrible. Balcony could have done with a clean.

Had a lovely stay in York. Apartment is well situated for walking or getting on red tour bus. Only short walk to the Min Positive: Comfortable, modern and excellent location with its own parking space. Negative: Balcony area very dirty, furniture had lots of bird droppings. Bad iron burn mark on carpet in one of the bedrooms.

Brilliant location, lovely comfy and spacious accommodation with super cooking facilities. Positive: No breakfast Negative: There was nothing we didn’t like.

Place was fine for our needs - do think it was a little on the expensive side for what it was - Positive: easy walking to the city - but very difficult to find with the car , Balcony was lovely - very good appliances - Negative: We found getting in the property very confusing - admittedly we could have all read the instructions better, but quite a bit of faffing to get the key - Only 3 pillows on the double bed, the carpet on the stairs was sodden - so always had a wet foot - did smell a little due to this - and it cost a further £ 10 (non refundable ) for the security deposit .

Mooie kamer op een goede locatie maar zonder kasten. Positive: Goede locatie. Hygiëne. Mooi ingericht. Negative: Wat er erg tegenviel was de totale afwezigheid van bergruimte. Zelfs in de badkamer was er geen kastje voor de toiletspullen.

Fabulous location Positive: Location was excellent, apartment very spacious with a lovely balcony for catching the evening sun. Plenty of seating for 4 adults, comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms. Negative: Wasn't as clean as it could have been, dirty crockery in dishwasher. One bed had 3 not 4 pillows.

Positive: Lovely flat, walking distance to town center and shops, also local shops just round the corner. Negative: We have experienced some issues but it was dealt with exceptionally so not much to complain about as everything was sorted out at the end. Would stay again.

Negative: COULDNT EVEN FIND THE PROPERTY, AND WHEN WE DID COULDNT FIND NO 19. WE ASKED FOR OUR MONEY BACK AND HAD TO BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE , NEEDS A MAP SHOWING THE STREETS AS THE ROADS WERE BLOCKED WITH BOULARDS CONCRETE

Lovely apartment but the agent needs to address some issues to bring it up to a high standard. Positive: Comfortable apartment within a short walk from York centre. Negative: 4 light bulbs broken. We can see from other reviews that this has been mentioned a few times so it’s disappointing that this isn’t being addressed by the managing agent. The hall and stairs up to the living room could do with some redecoration. More specific information on how to access the car park need to be included in the information as, if you get on the wrong side of the bollards, it is a 15 minute drive to get to the other side.

Had a fantastic stay in the heart of the city! The location was perfect, but the only adventure was finding the keys. Once sorted, everything was smooth sailing.

Perfect for what we needed, very nice relaxing stay Positive: Such a great location and nicely decorated. Host is very communicative Negative: The direction to collect the keys weren’t the clearest in terms of where the bike shed is as there’s another outer bike shed. Also can be quite difficult to find when driving with dead end streets but this is not the hosts issue!

Enjoyable Positive: Very difficult to find by road because of all the restricted roads. Negative: A cooker that was easier to use. It was too clever for a holiday let.

My reason for a lower score is not because of the accommodation but due to the small print on the booking confirmation. Please note when you book, you will be asked for a deposit. I couldn't then cancel as I would loose money. 3 nights = £250 deposit. This is held 7 days after you check-out and then released to your account, taking another 3-5 days to process. I questioned this, but was advised the property would be inspected after we vacate, if so why would they need to hold the money for 7 days. If the property would then be used again by another guest, surely we vacate- the property is inspected and then the money is released if in good order? For this reason I will not book again with any accommodation which is connected to Host and Stay. I did receive my full deposit, 9 days after I checked out. £250 might not be a lot but this caused a lot of stress, I learned though. Accommodation is clean and central, parking space was taken by someone else. Advised to use bollard.

Really enjoyed the stay. From the directions, access codes, amenities to the checkout, nothing but excellent!

Enjoyed the apartment and distance from city centre. Negative: More detailed instructions as to how to find the entrance keys. Instructions on how to use appliances would have been helpful as not everyone has these at home. Happy with most things.

Comfortable and quiet stay in York Positive: Nice and comfortable flat near the center of York. Very easy to find and there is also a place for the car which is very convenient. Arrival could be done even late thanks to the key box and indications given by the owner are very clear. Negative: Nothing

Whilst we cannot fault the apartment, cleanliness, location etc & quick response from Host to queries, the shine was taken off by the failure to guarantee the free parking which was stated on the advert. On arrival the allocated space was not available, and on contact to the host we were told the only option was to park in a paid car park in the town centre, at minimum £16 per day. Its a shame as the apartment was lovely, clean and comfortable with some basics of tea coffee and bathroom toiletries provided, & location was great to walk into town in 10 minutes, but wouldn't recommend booking if parking is important to you, as no support from the host once we raised as a problem. If parking had been available as advertised then this would have been a 5 star review all round
