We had a great stay! Excellent location, very clean and host was helpful with all questions. Perfect hub for a couple to stay in Whitby!

We had a really lovely stay. Very central and perfect for exploring all of Whitby. The apartment was a perfect size for the two of us and our dog. We felt right at home, had everything we needed. It was clean and nicely decorated. I would definitely recommend and would love to stay there longer next time. Great value for money too.

Don’t stay here. This apartment was filthy. My partner and I came to stay for one night. The main entrance was unclean and smelled of severe damp. We entered the flat to find disgusting floors, bins that hadn’t been emptied from the previous guests, bodily fluids and pubic hairs in the unchanged bed, a disgustingly dirty bathroom, SO much dust and a floor that hasn’t been hoovered for months. We contacted the host who said they could arrange a re-clean “tomorrow” which was the day we were leaving. We spent the night searching for alternative accommodation but in the end, had to turn the linens inside out and stay. Our “relaxing, fun” night away was replaced with a stressful one. The hosts were initially responsive but have since gone radio silent regarding my complaint. If you book with Host and Stay, you get hounded before your stay with calls and emails asking you if you want to pay for an early check in/ complete check in forms etc. Just not the usual Airbnb experience. Don’t book.

Pros- Fantastic central location with excellent views across the bridge. Modern nicely decorated flat. Perfect size for 2. Parking permit provided- see below Provided dishwasher tablets, black bags & cleaning cloth. Cons- Uncomfortable bed.. sinks on either side with a lump in the middle where been slept on less. Noisy toilet and water system. Cleanliness could be a bit better, pot drawer full of crumbs/food and skirtings dusty. On street permit provided however does not mention how difficult it is to find a space or that there are very limited close to location (due to pedestrianised) and if used are on main busy street. This is not a reflection on the accommodation however due to the location, the noise of the seagulls is extreme and will disturb sleep-take earplugs!

Really handy location. Seconds to the bridge, harbour and amenities. Perfect size for two people. Clean and tastefully furnished, well laid out. Great access to all amenities. Easy access to the harbour and the beach for walks. Easy access to public transport to get around Whitby or up and down the coast. Good communication and clear instructions for entry.

Avoid ‘Host & Stay’ management company at all costs Positive: The location of the apartment was brilliant. The decor was nice, but very tired Negative: Dealing with the accommodation management company; Host & Stay, was a joke. One of the main reasons we chose this property was the location and the fact you got a parking pass included. We arrived at the property and there was no parking permit. I called the agent multiple times with no answer, so had to find and pay for parking for the first night. I eventually got an answer via message at around 11pm on the first night with silly suggestions. I was given no helpful response or solution. I had to follow up again the next day with no solution until around 4pm, but we eventually received a parking pass. It was also agreed that the £11 for the parking would be reimbursed to us, which was the least they could do for the stress caused. We thought the drama was done with, but 2 weeks later, I had £195 taken from my bank account by Host & Stay with no explanation or pre warning. I was 6 months pregnant at the time and the whole ordeal was becoming too much for me. My husband called them and they said they had refunded us £206 but it should have only been £11 for the parking. So rather than letting us know, they just charged us the difference. The issue was, I hadn’t received the refund yet, so was £195 out of pocket, with no knowledge of when the refund was going to hit my account. I’ve never dealt with a company which has such poor customer service and lack of communication, who also think they can take money from your account without making you aware first. I really feel for the owners of the apartment, as it’s not being managed well at all.

Definitely would stay there again. Positive: Perfect location. Nice & cosy. Really comfy bed. Negative: Couldn't close the bathroom door properly as i was on crutches. Was hard to open & close.

Positive: Lovely clean and warm apartment. Great location! My daughter and I loved it. Also loved the underfloor heating. Negative: The flooring felt wobbly to walk on. I was worried I might damage it. It looked like it had been having repairs done, so we was careful.

Perfect location, right in the middle of Whitby and easy to self check in. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. Very noisy apartment block, thin walls and creaky stairs. The bathroom was filthy when we arrived and it didn’t seem to have been cleaned very well, barely any toilet roll either, it’s a shame to say you can’t check in until 4pm and check out is 10am next morning but didn’t seem to be cleaned in that 6 hour gap. To be honest I don’t think it is worth the money, especially with the waiver on top but as they accepted pets we were able to bring the dog.

Perfect location to explore Whitby, comfortable and modern. Shame about the WiFi. Positive: The location is excellent with a view of the swing bridge and close to everything you could need. Really nice craft beer bar called The Esk Vaults is a couple of doors up. The bed was very comfortable and bathroom/kitchen well equipped for a week away. Even a dog bowl provided. Would definitely stay there again if not for the WiFi. Negative: The WiFI was pretty much unusable. It's a 4G mobile router in a cupboard and was too slow for use (I was working while staying). There's a smart TV but it wasn't possible to stream anything on the slow connection. If you want a break from WiFi - not a problem but something to bear in mind if you need it. The hallway/communal areas were a bit smelly but not a problem once you were in the apartment.

Superb and central spot

Only thing going for the property was the location Positive: It was very central, property was nice and warm Negative: Not very clean . Bathroom door broke. Very uncomfortable sofa and dining chairs .Hall way to property very dirty.All windows very dirty.

We had a pleasant stay overall. The location was perfect for us, and the hosts were great at keeping in touch throughout. Access to the apartment was also really clear and straightforward, which made arrival very easy. The bed itself was very comfortable, although the duvet was quite lumpy and could probably do with replacing. The apartment would also benefit from a little more care and attention when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. In particular, the shower could have been cleaner, there was a noticeable damp smell, and the windows could also do with a good clean. Overall, it has a lot going for it, especially the location and communication from the hosts, but a little extra attention to the apartment would make a big difference to the stay.

Great location. Small but practical flat for a couple. Some snagging repairs but didn’t negatively affect the trip.

Absolutely loved my stay! In the centre of everything so there was lots to do. Check-in was easy and simple to follow and Charlie was excellent with any questions I had and always responded! Will definitely book again!

Lovely 2 night stay in whitby Positive: The location was good very central. Had to drive up to apartment to unload car . Get keys I couldn’t unlock the key press. My friend was able to do this. We then parked the car using the parking ticket. We were able to get a place just round the corner. Loved Whitby and apartment will be coming back. The seagulls were noisy but didn’t get any other noise from anywhere which was good. . . Negative: Enjoyed our stay didn’t use kitchen facilities as we ate out all the time. Would be good to park outside apartment but it is town centre and knew this before we booked.

Superb comfortable apartment Positive: Location was fantastic with views of the famous Whitby bridge. Very clean, modern and comfortable. Easy to access and great communication with host & stay. Negative: Noisy seagulls! So glad I bought my ear plugs!

Positive: Location is superb. Negative: The click flooring is ill fitted and is lifting and coming apart. The may cause H&S issues ie sharp edges and corners if not fixed.

Good location, ideal place for a couple of nights

As described, clean and clutter free with all the essentials for a good nights stay. Central location with everything on the door step. Just a little noisy on a night but that is location. Had a lovely night away. Thank you .

Excellent location.

Positive: Great location and well appointed apartment with all you need for a self catering staff in the heart of the town. Negative: The views from the bedroom windows was really bad I would suggest they put a transparent film on them as they spoil the great quality of the apartment.

Very poor communication and facilities Positive: Location and shower. Bed was comfy Negative: Facilities....cooker didn't work.....no microwave even though listed. Toilet black in flush ring. Cobwebs on ceiling..very poor communication regarding the cooker not working...they did nothing. Checkin time very late 4pm !!!! Actually left the property 1 day early due to cooker issues as I have specific dietary requirements and couldn't cook my own food.

Strongly recommend this place it’s in the middle of town, easy to access, and dog-friendly. The bed is very comfortable, and everything you need is there.

Would definitely come again Positive: All key codes to the accommodation were sent a couple of hours before our arrival. Super easy. The apartment is dead centre of Whitby so very easy to access everywhere we needed to go, the place was cozy and just off the Main Street, would definitely recommend for a cheap short stay at Whitby

When it rains it pours through the window Positive: Whitby as a place is lovely people are lovely to, out of season the restaurants shut early 8pm. Negative: No wardrobes in the bedroom so you're clothes are hung by a window that leaks so clothes were soaking wet every time it rains, Smelt of damp in the stair way. When you have a shower, in the middle of the night the shower empties itself, very freaky if you're a light sleeper.

Amazing Positive: The room was brilliant, really clean, had everything we needed and more, great location right by everything and easy to get to. We really enjoyed our stay. Negative: The instructions on how to get the keys should be a little more clear, we didn't know we had to put our palm on the screen to type the code, maybe explain that to future stays.

- The location is amazing! Couldn't be better. - The flat itself is really beautiful! But it could do with repainting/ freshening up. - The communication related to late checkout was poor but all other communication was great and really friendly. - It was sparsely equipped, there was only 30ml shower gel/ only two mugs/ no washing up liquid/ only one coffee for the coffee machine (really good coffee machine though). Overall I would recommend! It's a lovely flat in the perfect location and Whitby is incredible.

Cosy yet contemporary apartment right in the centre of everything. Super clean & modern, perfect to come home to after a day on the beach & arcades. Comms from the hosts were first class, pre-empted anything i might need, thank you.

The location was perfect, generally clean and modern property. There was a bit of an odour, not sure if former smoker or recent cooking, but a few candles or room freshers is just needed and the bathroom door was not working and reported it, they said had been reported before us but could not get the parts… had to move to the lounge at times for privacy reasons . Over all good stay and as needed

Good location but a long list of long standing faults. Can't be arsed.. NO DOOR ON TOILET Positive: Good location. Negative: Prefer a door on the toilet from the bedroom, privacy. Sliding door was broken and couldn't be fixed. waste bin wasn't emptied and smelt. Pan had food stuck on. Dangerous 12th step and no light.NO microwave.Dirty

Lovely stay! Perfect location! Only a couple of small issues, the bathroom door was very difficult to shut but apart from that was a lovely stay.

The apartment is perfectly situated in the centre of Whitby, easily accessed and with great facilities. The check-in process was clearly explained and easy to use, and we were pleased with the modern furnishings.

Perfect place to stay. Will definatly return to Golden lion appartments. Positive: Breakfast not included. Location was perfect as it was right on the front so no need climb up to the back end of the town. Also right next to pubs shops and places to eat. Great location, tidy and clean.

Overall a good stay. The flat was located right in the centre of Whitby so it was a great location. There was a lot to do in the area and the views were perfect for people watching. The flat was clean and tidy and a fair size. There was a good sized television with access to all streaming apps and 3veruthing you need for self catering. The CO-OP was a 10 minute walk so again perfect for self catering. We were concerned about noise, as the the front of the flat is in a busy area of Whitby by the bridge, but the bedroom is located at the back so it was not a problem at all. We slept well. The host left a few things such as dishwasher tablets, towels and toiletries to make the stay more comfortable. A few negatives were that the flat had some wear and tear. The floor in the bedroom is damaged and could do with being replaced. We couldnt get thevtowel rail in the bedroom to work, even after watching the handy video.

Didn’t really meet expectations, the main problem was the issue with the water, every time you used the tap, flushed the toilet or used the shower it made a really loud drilling type noise. I saw this on a review a few months ago so can see it hasn’t been fixed. We prepared for the noise outside with it being central and on a bank holiday, however the worst bit was noise from upstairs overnight. There was an issue with the front door not locking behind us that other guests in the apartment complex highlighted to us, which was a concern as it is in a busy / rowdy ish area - also made worse by someone throwing up right outside the front door. Also thought the £50 cleaning fee was quite steep especially to say it wasn’t exceptionally clean, some surfaces were dusty, the floors near the sofa hadn’t been swept and the furniture had some stains on. It’s decorated nice and the bed was comfy, the location is great for exploring Whitby it’s just a shame it could do with some maintenance

Unhygienic Negative: It was unclean, pubic hairs on the toilet and in the shower, long term dust on towel rail and skirting boards, crumbs and hairs and old hair clips in the drawers, the flooring had gaps in, very unpleasant.

Very tired property. Positive: I liked the location and having cooking and washing facilities Negative: From the pictures it looked lovely, in reality it is very tired looking. Cushions on bed all stained. Bathroom is filthy, dust all around the skirting boards, shower really dirty. The floor boards are all coming apart and on 2 hangers in the property. Not worth the money in my opinion. Also the property managers make you pay an extra £25 in case of damages, something that isn't told before booking. The entrance is also not exactly welcoming full of letters as you walk in and light doesn't come on as you are walking down the stairs which is a safety issue as you come easily miss your step. All in all not very happy.

Perfect place to stay. Close to all attractions, restaurants and bars as well as parking. Very handy having the parking permits available when we checked in. Everything was clean and tidy. Only thing I would add is to have some blankets/throws available but that’s just me being picky and I’ll bring one with me next time. Thank you for everything!

The location was impeccable, right at the heart of the town but quiet enough to not be disturbed. Easy to find, easy to access and really comfortable. Would recommend.

Enjoyable, but not as pleasant experience as previous. Positive: Location, accessibility. Negative: We have stayed at the Golden Lion apartments on many occasions and enjoyed each trip. This time we hade the feeling that the apartments are getting tired and less well stocked. Only 2 mugs for example, less cushions on the sofa than previously, less knives / forks / spoons. The laminate flooring in the bathroom is starting to split.

Still enjoyed our week in Whitby, great location but wouldn’t use again Positive: Lovely modern apartment comfy bed Negative: Very dirty entrance , staircase filthy no floors in apartment had been washed , dirty skirtings and window ledges, cobwebs everywhere and dust, under sink cupboard and bin dirty , plug holes dirty , tv had very dirty screen, wifi hopeless, on the hole needed a very good clean .

Needs a bit of TLC and better cleaning to bring up to scratch. Positive: Well located a and quite well appointed Negative: The internet and TV were not working throughout our stay we reported the fault on day 1 it was day 4 before someone came to turn it on and off again, which had already done and say they would have to contact the owners. No progress by the time we left. We were told they wouldn’t give us any compensation but we could get a discount if we stay again. The shower and sink plugs over flowed. The maintenance guy had it on his list from a previous client apparently but turned up without warning at an inconvenient time so it never got fixed. Various annoying things.. only two towels for a week no hand towels, only two mugs! Generally needs a bit of TLC. They used to give a parking permit but don’t anymore. Not good value anymore.

Positive: Good location. Comfortable settee and bed. Good shower. Kitchen had everything needed to holiday self catering (once cleaned and able to use.) The seagulls outside were very noisy, we heard a bit of noise from the Irish pub opposite on the first night but that was it and the stairs to the apartment were narrow and steep. - This was all in the description of the property on booking.com and I liked the honesty in this description. Negative: Although the original decor idea is nice and modern the decor was very tired. It needed paint work, repairs where hooks etc. were coming off of the walls. No wardrobe or anywhere to hang clothes in the bedroom, hook that could have been used was hanging off of the wall. The sink didn't drain water well at all making it difficult to use and in constant need of cleaning. The apartment itself and glasses, cups, pots and pans etc. were not clean at all which was the most disappointing part of the stay. We wouldn't stay here again.

Not happy Positive: It was small , very unclean !! It was cleaner when we left Negative: It was unclean and unkept , you felt like you might fall through the shower, the toilet was wonky and felt like it might fall off the wall, the hangers in the walls just fell out , not worth the money

Positive: Location as it was right in the centre by the swing Bridge. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom modern. Negative: It wasn't very clean. Had to wash the glasses out the cupboard before using them. Could clearly see the dust on the low level lamps. Floor was dirty.

Lovely central apartment Positive: Excellent location right by the swing bridge. Beautiful modern and clean apartment. Very comfortable bed. Lovely shower. Bedroom had windows on two walls which enabled a nice cross breeze. Negative: As with most places in Whitby, you need to park away from the apartment which is a minor annoyance when carting bags.

Excellent location to explore Whitby, comfortable and all basic needs are catered for. Positive: Very centrally located, so great place to have a base. The facilities are basic but the bed was comfortable. The parking is far away, so for those with dog crates or heavy food, drop it off close by and then park. Negative: There are steep stairs, so if you have a mobility difficulty, this may not be the best rental for you. Unfortunately when we went the Lion pub was renovating so early noise from the builders, but that is a short term issue.

Nightmare Positive: Not much Negative: Dirty lounge was dirty and had crumbs under cushions suggesting it was not properly cleaned. Pots were not clean. They said the parking was nearby however we had to walk for 15 minutes in the rain from our nearest parking. The place had a sewer smell and all the shower, dishwasher and toilet were not usable because water backed up through the pipes and would have flooded on to the floor if used. Finding the door to the apartment was a nightmare and we had to keep calling for directions as it was not obvious. On arrival we were slugged with another charge of non refundable 25 pounds for insurance which should have been included in the up front cost when comparing charges on booking.com.

Great location but not clean and there are hidden costs. Positive: Great location and good size apartment. Negative: After paying in full and before they will send you the door codes you have to pay a damage cover payment of either £25 or £500. Like everything else you think you will get a partial refund if no damage, but you don't on the £25 fee. They should tell you this on booking, not after paying in full. You get a bombardment of emails about damage to the property and fees if you are not out by 10 a.m. The main problem is that the apartment was dirty. A few points were that the rug was covered in stains and crumbs. Bathroom not cleaned properly, kitchen sink not clean. Stale smelling communal hallways. Not a good impression. You get the impression from their web site that the property has parking. It doesn't. They give you a ticket to park in the town. Be prepared for a walk with your luggage. We packed expecting to park beside the property. It is only on the day of your arrival that you find this out.
