Ladycross plantation is a very nice site, great dog field and woodland walks. We stayed at Simon Howe booked via airb&b. Considering you pay an added cleaning fee it was very disappointing. I had to clean the floors and wash the bedding on arrival as we found someones worn pjs in the bed and the floors had sticky stains. The windows had sticky hand marks on them and the outside furniture is filthy. We had no heating for 24hours until maintenance came to fix it. We were told the fire had not worked since 2023, although still advertised in air b&b as a property feature. Although we stayed in May evenings and mornings dropped cold. We payed over £500 for 3 nights and have not been offered a refund for cleaning the property for them. I wouldn't book Simon Howe again and would check reviews for the others before booking. Shame could be a great spot. Host and stay communications were polite but never offered to bring clean bedding or even remove the last guests pjs.

The accommodation was very clean and had everything you need for a home-from-home stay. The location was excellent and is ideal for families, with walks close by. If you have a dog, this is even better, with Whitby and Sandsend only a five-minute drive away. The local pub was very accommodating and friendly, making it an excellent place to stay.

We have used this site numerous times. However, this was our first time in a lodge and it won’t be our last. We loved our stay in the Simon Lowe lodge. So peaceful and comfortable. Everything you need and a wee bit more. We had a couple of wee issues that were quickly dealt with by host & stay, but issues that shouldn’t really have happened to be honest. Apart from that, the property itself needs a little TLC due to use. One disappointment was the fire feature, I understand it has not been in working order for some time, but even though it’s not itemised it’s part of the images. once the fireplace is back up and running I’m sure the lodge will be back to its full awesomeness. The lodge was toasty warm even without the fire on. We will be back as there’s nothing better than a visit to Whitby and this wonderful setting to recharge. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Even the dog was chilled !!

We have a lovely stay, really nice clean and tidy lodge. Only downside was the initial confusion from host about number of dogs staying. Throughout the booking i stated we would be taking two dogs. However, we received a message the day before stating that only one dog is allowed to stay. I replied and the issue was resolved and we took two dogs. We were also disappointed the log fire didn’t work. Apart from that it was a lovely stay and we could book again.

We did have a huge worry the day prior to or stay. we were initially told we were allowed 2 dogs to be told the day before arrival that we could only take 1 dog. this panicked me but luckily the owner of the site sorted out the issue and it was fine. but please make sure you double check before you go

Simon Howe lodge Beautiful lodge at Whitby, it was so peaceful surrounded by the woodland. Everything was comfortable and clean with so much space. It was great for the dog too, we didn't want to leave. Would definitely recommend

What a beautiful lodge well Equipped! Loved loved it. EXCEPT THE HUMAN AND DOG HAIR ON THE BED!! Also the heating woke us up every morning! Not sure what was wrong with it. It came from the loft. We were refunded £30 for this which I thought was so unfair. We would have loved to have gone back but we won’t as I don’t think they handled our complaint fairly. For personal reasons this break was so important for RR. I felt it was spoilt because of these issues we had.

Great location, lovely woodland setting, very relaxing property. Positive: The lodge was in a lovely woodland setting, it was quiet and a nice caravan park. The location was ideal as it was really close to get to Whitby and the coastal villages for a great day out. And then close enough to get to York! Negative: Nothing that the hosts could do, but nature can sometimes be a bit noisy - some scratching from wildlife at night woke us and our dog up, but, this was nature so not within the hosts control!

Location was beautiful, lodge was laid out nice. Awful smell in the main bathroom of sewage which we weren’t made aware of. Stiff bath tap which we were made aware of. Security of location was great and ideal for local walks or to Whitby. Quite a late check in considering it’s made such an early check out when you feel rushed to get out by 10am. Was sent a text at 9am with a fairly to the point text making sure we were out on time. Over all lovely place that’s pet friendly with a homely feel.

Me and my family had 3 nights here and really enjoyed it the place was one of the best air b and b’s we have stayed in high end finishings, kitchen had everything we needed, shower was great in the en-suite, managed to use the fire which was nice in the evenings just have to google the remote and we got the instructions easy, the WiFi was really good no issues, I would say there’s one thing that stops it from being the perfect getaway I could do with a hot tub as the decking is massive and could easily have one round the Side of it, would highly recommend staying here with family

Lodge was lovely. I asked if there was a cot and a high chair and got told there wasn’t. Had to go and buy both and opened the cupboard when I arrive and both were there. We turn up late as got stuck in traffic. Satnav took us to the road before the site. After driving past in the dark we couldn’t see the sign at first as it is only visible from one direction as it’s in the bush. Location is very pretty but could do with a little park for the kids.

Great cabin. Perfect size for our family, 2 adults and 1 child.

Thank you for our peaceful and pleasant stay. It was fab to be lost in the woods away from the normal hustle and bustle of life. Cabin had everything you needed for the stay. Comfortable beds, and TV that had all channels and on demand applications. Thank you

Beautiful cabin in woods

We had a perfect stay. The location couldn’t be better as the lodge is surrounded by trees and very well-placed for trips to the coast. The area was really peaceful and full of wildlife, we saw a deer on our first morning and chickens, hares and toads around the site. The lodge had everything we needed and the enclosed communal field on the site was great for our dog to run around in.

Lovely lodge in lovely place. Feel so peaceful especially during Xmas time. The lodge is very spacious, have all you need in the kitchen. Very bright in lounge and in the kitchen which is excellent. Sofas could be changed as they proper worn out. Loads of books which we used for kids. Excellent WiFi speed as we used it while we were working for 2 days. The only thing which upset us was that the fire place which was on pictures didn’t work. They could at least tell us that this is not working, because it was one of the reasons we booked this place. Apart from that I do recommend this lodge to anyone 😊 We have had a great time.

So pleased we booked this beautiful lodge, we had a lovely relaxing Christmas. The lodge was immaculate and very comfortable we thoroughly enjoyed it. The site was well maintained and access was extremely easy with the instructions provided.

We stayed here for a long weekend for my husband’s 50th, a lovely lodge set in private grounds and very peaceful and somewhere we could bring our dog along. The park was great for walking our dog at 7am and felt very safe on my own. The lodge was well equipped with everything you’d need for a stay, really modern bathrooms and well set out throughout, underfloor heating as well. We even got the fire working while we were there, which on previous reviews this didn’t look to be the case for others.

The Lodge is set on a wonderful site. Easy to find. The Lodge is well equipped. Many a hot tub would have been even better as we saw there was space for one. A little pricey for 4 nights but not so bad split with other guests. Very open and lots of room.

Fantastic location and facilities, the lodge is beautiful inside and is extremely modern. Loved the fire and it’s a perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire coast!

Did not live up to the spec! Positive: Location. Size of property. Negative: Smoke alarm was disabled! Fire was not working so it was cold in October whilst having to wait for the set heating times to come on. No WiFi. When we asked host and stay for help we heard nothing for the rest of it stay. Cobwebs and dust. Sheets stained and had holes in. Many mentioned in the visitor book about these things months ago. Clearly not been rectified!

Great lodge. Very homely. Good location for traveling to the coast. Very peaceful. Be a great lodge spoiled by poor cleaning. We had to clean it on arrival. Layers of dust. Sticky kitchen. Dirty crockery. Cobwebs. Toilets bleached but not cleaned. Sofas very dusty and dirty. Very Disappointing as its such a lovely lodge.

Wedding weekend stay Positive: The lodge was spotless. The setting was so quiet and peaceful just what we needed. Negative: There was nothing really we didn't like. If we had to pick one thing it would be the sofas that could do with replacing we found them really low and not particularly comfortable. But that said we would definately stay again

Relaxing retreat Positive: Set amongst the trees, this lodge was perfect for a relaxing week. It was spotlessly clean with all needs catered for. Negative: Nothing

We all had such a lovely time. It was so very peaceful and relaxing. Everything as expected. The fire worked perfectly using the remote control. The Walks around the site was a favourite of our pup. 🐾

Simon Howe Lodge was Good overall . BUT I would not recommend Host and Stay. I messaged back and forth with Charlie to request that we had the access instructions 24 hrs before as we would be travelling on check in day. I was assured several times that this would happen - it didn't! I rang on 28th after 4pm, the day before, to ask why and was told by Honey that Charlie was not on duty. Honey then sent the instructions to me. I had previously asked Charlie several questions about the property and was told "Yes" to everything. NOT true. No written House instructions, No spare keys, various items such as trays were not available. I was told that all appliances etc. were in working order - again NOT true. The coffe machine did not work properly - just dribbled small amounts of water! The fridge was difficult as there are no storage compartments in the door!! The lodge itself was functiuonal, clean and comfortable. The caravan and lodge site seems well run and is claen and tidy.

Perfect location and facilities Positive: Superb home; spacious, luminous, modern and clean. Instructions to check in and out were clear and timeline. We had a small issue with a light switch which got fixed within 24h of reporting it. Can’t speak highly enough of thi property and its hosts.

Amazing property with beautiful scenery. The lodge has everything you could possibly need. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the log burner to work even with hours of reading manuals and youtube. Underfloor heating managed to make up for the warm cosy feeling. Also had a bath which was a nice surprise.

Great park. Very clean and peaceful. Chalet was clean and tidy with lots of space and nice outdoor area. Lacked a house book with instructions on how to start the gas fire so i had to download a manual online. Also no instructions for the cooker/heating system and the host never replied to an email i sent. Not ideal.

Dissapointing Positive: The lodge was spacious and modern. The location was nice. Negative: The lodge had many faults and was generally unclean. Walls had stains on them,the windows were smeared and not clean,the sofas were old and stained,the fridge had shelves missing and the log stove/ fire didn't work.When reporting these problems terms and conditions were quoted saying they needed time to put things right but no one came and a complaint form was only sent after several requests.

The Lodge itself was lovely and spacious however the non functioning heating system meant the lodge was too cold to stay in for even 1 night. We checked out after 3 hours. Fix the heating and it would be perfect.

A really well appointed lodge on a beautiful, serene site. The kitchen was probably the best equipped of any place we've stayed and the space was brilliant. The external decking area looking through the trees was a huge bonus. The neighbouring lodges were well spaced and we never felt our privacy was invaded. We'll definitely be returning to this place.

The lodge was excellent and the location was just what we wanted. The only downfall was the lodge alarm went off at 06:00 in the morning and the code had not been given to us! We tried calling Host and Stay but had to call for over 30 minutes before someone answered, they then said they would get back to us with the alarm code. We waited 5 minutes and they did call back but gave us an incorrect alarm code. They then asked us to contact the site to get the correct code! The site arrived after 45 minutes and reset the alarm. I don’t think we were flavour of the month with the neighbours! Other than the alarm and a few minor niggles we LOVED IT!!!!

Very nice. Negative: The gas burning stove wasn’t able to be used. The settee seats seemed worn.

Sadly had to contact Host & Stay and sent them pictures of uncleaned glass & touch points. Kitchen was not clean, cupboards had visible marks all over, oven was dirty, bin had drip marks down it. Splash back area was all marked. Placemat had dried in egg on it. Bedroom was really dusty all along skirting. Check the top of the bathroom cabinet as dust was so think you could write in it. Chips on plates in kitchen. Paint work could be doing with a refresh. Cupboard for cleaning at the front door really smells - not very nice. Cleaner cane out and cleaned windows of all the dirty finger mark's from who had stayed previously, wiped touch points but still did not clean oven or bin or dust. Very poor.

Lovely lodge, but sleep not guaranteed. Positive: The lodge is in a fantastic location close to Whitby. The immediate surroundings are lovely and peaceful in amongst the trees. The lodge is a really good size, nice and cosy and well equipped. Negative: The heating is incredibly noisy as it is located above one of the bedrooms, there was constant knocking sounds from the ceiling on the first night as the heating had been left on all night, got no sleep at all. They sent a maintenance man out the following day, which was great, and he put it onto a timer so at least it wasn’t noisy all night. However it was still banging until about 11pm and started again at 6.30am, which woke us up. This has been a complaint from previous reviews and not addressed, which is disappointing, especially when you have chosen such a peaceful location to stay in, you expect to be able to sleep. The gas fire also didn’t work the first night, but the maintenance man fixed this for us the following day.

Positive: The lodge certainly has that wow factor when you first arrive ! It's very comfortable, clean and in a beautiful location. We hope to return and enjoy another break at the lodge, highly recommended.

Wonderful relaxing stay, would definitely recommend. Positive: Facilities and comfort of the lodge, well equipped, quality fixtures and fitting (with the exception of the blinds) books, dvd’s etc for entertainment. Negative: I contacted host and stay to ask if we could leave our car somewhere on/near the site before check in time, however the call handler wasn’t very helpful. However, when I contacted the receptionist team at the site they were brilliant. Also, lack of wildlife, particularly birds.

Until 8 years ago, my parents had a seasonal pitch at Ladycross. It was lovely to return this weekend to see what a great job has been done of the lodges. The whole site remains peaceful and unspoilt, the perfect place to relax and unwind. The lodge itself is one of the best I've stayed in. Spacious, with lots of natural light. Although the neighbours are nearby, the lodges are not overlooked and feel private. There was a good choice of essentials in the kitchen and bathroom - no need to pack washing up liquid and hand soap etc, as it was all provided. Typically, it was unseasonably warm for October, so we didn't use the log burner to full affect, but I couldn't think of anything nicer than to cosy up in front of it on a chilly evening. My only slight gripe is the check-in and check-out times. 4pm and 10am seem quite late/early. I appreciate the work involved in turning the lodges round, but 3pm and 11am would be a little more palatable. We will definitely book again

Simon Howe Lodge is the perfect home from home, it’s exactly as pictured, in a beautiful surrounding with a lovely walk around the grounds and less than 10 minute drive to Whitby centre. It’s the most well equipped lodge we’ve ever stayed in, it has everything you could possibly need unlike other places we’ve stayed before! Would 100% recommend to anyone.

Negative: One of the single beds had damp bedding with a dirty stained towel on it. Probably an oversight?

Everything was spotless, well appointed, with everything we needed for our stay. The only complaint is that an amount of £250 deposit was removed from our account and we were charged £10 (non refundable) for the privilege. I have never come across this before and it felt penny pinching considering how much we paid for the accommodation.

The only slight let down is the property wasn’t thoroughly cleaned throughout, minimal things like dust, hairs, dirty mirrors/hob etc which for what we’ve paid could have been avoided. Would still strongly recommend.

Great space.

Positive: The lodge was very nice Negative: The bath was out of action and the woman who came out due to getting through the car barrier was abrupt, as I hadn't been emailed the barrier code, probably not what you need after a 2.5 hr car journey, and 1st impressions, apart from that the lodge and whitby are really nice places to visit.

Lodge is great, location ideal and all the furnishings, information and equipment provided was excellent and we had a great stay. The management company added a sneaky £10 fee for damage deposit separate to all the booking fees so just be aware of this
