Unfortunately, we had a gas leak from the boiler. Made them aware of this and there responses were very slow, so was sat outside in freezing cold for just under an hour before their maintenance person came (fair enough as soon as they realised the severity they sent someone who was only 10 min away). Was told from the maintenance man that gas engineer needs to come out but we will be told as soon as it’s safe to go back. We never got a call - it was freezing, we had a small dog with us, and were out for around 5 hours (trying to contact to see if we could go back) until we decided to contact them to let them know we are collecting our belongings and leaving. It was late, it was dark, it was cold, we couldn’t wait any longer and decided it would’ve best to just head home as we wouldn’t feel safe in there. It was not cleaned to a good standard with salt and other things on furniture, bedding was stained and duvet cover ripped. Lovely location but our trip was ruined.

This was the worst trip to Whitby by far, we go every year and have stayed in host & stay properties each time. The apartment itself should have been considerably better but what we found totally let it down. Positives- good location, car parking space (although it is tight not helped by renovations going on at the house across so work vans in parking spaces), bathroom was nice. Negatives- access instructions vague due to 4 lockboxes it wasn't the one directly behind the parking space. Door to the apartment was unlocked as the lock wasn't working. Apartment was not clean, it was dusty, dirty floors, cobwebs and dead insects. It had not been cleaned recently. Outside furniture & space was covered in bird poo. There was a baby seagull living there with attacking parent, we could not use the outside space or let dog out. This property should therefore not have been rented out. All reported to H&S. They sent a cleaner and maintenance for the lock but we had to stay in to deal with this.

Perfect Positive: Loved everything about this apartment it was a fantastic location 2 minute walk to the centre of whitby apartment was lovely and a great wee side garden for are small dog that was well secured. Will definitely be booking this apartment again. Negative: There wasn't anything I didn't like.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this apartment. Very easy check in. Given lots of information by the host before arrival. Apartment as described in the pictures, lovely very comfortable. Well equipped had everything you need to cook a meal. Spotlessly clean and tidy. The outside area was great for the doggie. You can tell the owner looks after this property just like a home from home. In a fantastic location just 2 min walk to the harbour. Whitby is beautiful lovely little seaside town with everything you need. Great pubs and restaurants, lovely shops selling lots of local products. The people we met were so very friendly and welcoming nothing was too much trouble in the bars and restaurants. Co-op on the door step no need to drive out. The beaches and harbour are stunning. The only things we felt would enhance the experience was maybe a TV in the bedroom and a curtain across the patio doors at the kitchen end. We would highly recommend this apartment and will definitely be back ?

Lovely Apartment 5 minutes walk from Whitby Town Centre. Onsite parking. The accommodation was well furnished and extremely comfortable to stay at. Private Garden which is Dog Friendly. Great for a weekend in Whitby. Beaware that the host will want a further payment for damage waiver which wasn't advertised at booking.

Very cosy apartment at close proximity to the lively town centre and port. Good sized back garden for our pet and well equipped rooms and kitchen. strongly recommend for a break at beautiful Whitby!

Positive: Good location. Nice outdoor space. Negative: No coffee pods available as described in the literature. Only one toilet roll for 3 days for a family of 4.

We had a very comfortable two nights at Shipwright Lodge. This new build flat is within 2 minutes walking distance of the town centre. It was clean and uncluttered and had with everything we needed to make our stay with two teenage girls pleasant. We will definitely return. Whitby itself if a wonderful place to visit with so much on the doorstep or just a short drive away.

Wrong keys in box couldn’t gain entry took two and half hours to resolve after a 4 hour journey, I was very disappointed that a comment was made saying NEVERMIND it was just a missing key, once we gained entry even the head of housekeeping was shocked to see no Christmas decor had been added , no welcome pack was added either , The apartment is very modern but no attention to detail on cleaning, I had to put all crockery and pots into dishwasher before I could use them, extraction fan was dirty and had cobwebs inside, the vacuum had not been emptied or cleaned for some time,the double mattress was so uncomfortable we had to put all the available pillows under to give some sort of support, low quality mattress protection and no pillow protection under slips , There was no bin store key so was told to leave rubbish inside property, Although responses were received prompt there was no offer of Christmas decor or wine or anything to soften the situation

Apartment was clean with all mod cons, well positioned for town centre unfortunately the internet was not connected so I couldn't use the wifi this was a big problem for me as I needed to work from home on 1 day of my stay. Also the parking space was very difficult to get into.

weather was good, apartment was well located Positive: no food was included, location was very good, very quite until the last night Negative: internet connection was down, so we were limited on television programs, one television did not work at all. there was no hooks on doors and no shelf in bathroom. only one hand towel and one tea towel. No shower gel. Had to do some washing of the crockery before we could use it

Great Stay Negative: Parking was great but wasn’t told keys for the pole were in the key safe box. Gentleman from the building come down and told us where they were

Positive: The location with parking space was great. Out door court yard great. Negative: No wifi for our whole stay which also ment NO tv apps or channels other than basic tv stations. 1 bedroom tv which ran on wifi only so we couldn't use at all ( my mother hardly sleeps so this was not good). I Called info adviser who contacted owner who knew internet was down before we arrived but didn't notify us. I run an online booking system for my business.... Also it states ground floor apartment but has over 10 steps to get up to the front door from car parking bay. My mother has severe breathing problems so I had to dismantle her mobility scooter and put in the car each return which we limited out goings so not to cause her distress and breathlessness.

Nice short break in an interesting old fishing town Positive: Modern studio style flat with a really good location and parking. There are some nice touches to make it feel more homely, and there were things like an air fryer and Nespresso that we hadn't expected. There are some nice outside seating areas with night lighting. Clearly, some love has gone into it. We enjoyed our stay. It was generally clean, warm and comfortable. Thanks very much! Negative: Annoying that we were told the WiFi was broken only after booking. Apparently we can claim a discount, which is being handled by Host & Stay, but not great when you don't have unlimited mobile data! It also meant the TV in the second bedroom was useless because it was only connected to the internet. On the other hand, there are some maintenance issues. The bollard for the parking space has been run-over (not by us!) and is lying under the outside staircase. The bathroom fan doesn't work, and because the window doesn't open it's getting damp. It probably explains why the radiator is getting rusty. Some of the paintwork needs re-doing. The toilet was clean, but the underside of the seat is stained brown. Could do with being replaced. The large hairdryer didn't work and smells burnt-out. There was a travel hairdryer that did work, however. Probably ought to remove the large one for safety. Whilst rummaging through the appliance manuals in one of the kitchen cupboards, we found two letters for the owner. I suspect mail isn't getting back to the owner and may explain why the internet was turned off. This probably sounds a bit negative, but it's mainly to let the owner know how well it's being maintained. It's obviously cleaned regularly, but could do with occasional deep cleaning to make it top-notch.

Weekend in Whitby Positive: The apartment was lovely. Also the outside space was ideal for the dogs. The kitchen was fully equipped. The only thing we thought was that a booklet or something should be there to explain how to work appliances, eg the coffee machine. Would stay there again. Negative: Unfortunately the WiFi wasn't working - again! This is the third Host and Stay property we have stayed in that promised WiFi throughout and it wasn't working. Obviously this also meant we weren't able to take advantage of all the apps on the tv. Eg Netflix. I would have given it a 5* rating if the WiFi had been working.

Nearly very good Positive: Close to town centre. Quiet backstreet location. Reserved parking available but not secured by a collapsable post and sometimes taken by neighbouring properties. Property clean, well fitted kitchen (including coffee machine, dishwasher and washing machine though none needed in our short stay). The block has five other properties but we experienced very little external noise. Easy to access on arrival. Bathroom clean. Negative: Property advertises wi-fi internet, netflix. The Internet connection did not work (thus no tv also) and was reported within the hour. Nothing was done to fix this during our entire stay. There seemed to be a lack of interest from the management company. The QR code provided to go to the online property guide is not correctly formatted either. No toiletries were provided in the bathroom.

Convenient for town and a comfortable apartment Positive: The location was perfect, only a five minute walk to the harbour and train station. It was comfortable and had everything we needed and more. The check in and check out were easy and communication with the owner was good. There was a dedicated parking space which is a bonus. Negative: Nothing to dislike

Positive: Loved the outside space, it was lovely to have two seating areas and being able to est outside. The location is fantastic, short walk into the city centre and the parking space in a bonus. Negative: There was no WiFi in the property, it took over 24 hours to get a response from host & stay and I had to contact them multiple times before getting a response, even then it was to say that the owner was in contact with the supplier. This issue was not resolved during our stay. When we arrived their was dog hair all over the furniture and we needed to hoover the chair and settee. The double bed was lower than expected.

Positive: Loved the location Negative: I think the owner needs a new cleaner i had to clean the kitchen units and window doors and hoover was really smelly when hoovering needs cleaned out apart from this its a lovely apartment I have stayed before and will stay again and hopefully it will be alot cleaner

Positive: The excellent location, the furnishings and the patio. Negative: We had difficulty locating the flat on arrival at Spa Well Court.

Great location Positive: Location is excellent and the apartment was very clean and comfortable Negative: No toilet rolls when we arrived and only one hand towel for accomodation for 4 people. The outside area us not well kept and the outside furniture was broken. When a message was sent to Host and Stay re toilet rolls and towels they did not respond

Positive: The location was good. But I wanted a ground floor flat because the friend I went with struggled to get up the stairs Negative: The stairs leading up to the property

Would not hesitate to stay again all mod cons washing machine dish washer micro wave coffee machine avail for use. Positive: Location and having outside enclosed garden for dog and car parking. Negative: Nothing we didn’t like about it inside amazing outside garden furniture needed perhaps replacing and garden needed to be weeded. Loved the garden lighting it was peaceful.

A lovely three night stay and a perfect location for visiting Whitby. Positive: Great location and very clean and comfortable! Negative: We had no problems at all with the apartment but one cause for concern was the living room rug.Looked very nice but kept slipping when we walked on it which we thought could be a bit dangerous(needs sticking to the floor).Everything else was great and excellent facilities in kitchen and all very clean !Loved the low lights in the hall !

Great location very clean and lovely would stay again Positive: It was self catering Negative: Hard to identify the correct key box as there was a big sign over one of them which said shipwright lodge so we thought that was ours- it wasn’t and our one had no sign and no markings. I think this could have been made clearer.

Fabulous experience Positive: Shipwright Lodge was just perfect. Flat was in a nice quiet spot, parking was a great bonus. Only 2 minutes walk to the harbour. Plenty variety of eating places. The Angel was perfect for a drink and to watch the world go by. Trenches for a fish tea was delightful.

Had a few issues as the lats on the bed were cracked which made for a few uncomfortable nights. Maintenance wanted to come out at 2030 which was late so had to wait for the next day. Good location Clean flat

The flat was in a great location and having a designated parking space was a huge benefit given the difficult parking in Whitby centre. We had all the amenities inside the flat that we were expecting. My biggest issue was with the comfort of the beds. The mattresses were awful - either very cheap or very well used! Not good at all for anyone with back problems.

Shipwright Lodge is in a great location, just a short walk from all that Whitby has to offer. We arrived a little later than expected and I was in need of a coffee fix. The Host & Stay website mentions that they provide Wonky coffee pods for the Nespresso machine. Unfortunately this was not the case for us, not a coffee pod in site. I have had many short breaks in Whitby over the years and we also usually get a welcome hamper of some sort. We did not receive anything at Shipwright Lodge, not even a bottle of milk. Maybe my expectations are too high, but it would it would have been nice just to have a few essentials. We also had what sounded like a herd of elephants in the apartment upstairs, I know this can't be helped and this won't always be the case but please bare this in mind of you don't like noise. All in all it was a great little apartment that requires a few improvements.

Really enjoyed staying here as surrounding area quiet with parking but only 120 seconds away from Whitby so very walkable. The flat is clean and well looked after felt like a home from home and we really enjoyed our stay. Easily recommend and will hopefully return in the future it’s a brilliant base to explore surrounding areas and loads of places to eat/drink etc

Loved Whitby but not our lodge Nice looking modern flat, excellent location very near town centre. Also, private parking which is a must for Whitby. However, on the downside; bathroom had no curtain or blind for privacy and the door didn’t lock. Also, no hooks or rail for towels/clothes. Only one hand towel between 4 people, not good enough. Mattresses were shocking, felt every spring on all three beds, God knows how old they were. Patio area & seating. Disgusting! Bird poo everywhere. We complained about this and were informed it would be cleaned ASAP, needless to say, no sign of the cleaners during our remaining four days. Also, we had resident seagulls & large chic living in patio area and were attacked whenever we attempted to venture out. Therefore, outside area was off limits. We were never warned about this prior to arrival, otherwise we wouldn’t have booked. I don’t tend to write reviews but felt it necessary on this occasion. Though, restricted by character length.

Amazing apartment with lots of space. Bright airy and really well equipped. Everything you would need! From clothes dryer to airfyer! Lovely court yard wrapping around the apartment with sun all day. Come the evening- beautiful solar lights entice you back into the card for a little nightcap. So close to everything but tucked away so quiet at night time. Great communication and easy to find. Whitby itself is beautiful and worth a visit.

We had a great stay at Shipwright Lodge, the place was clean, comfortable and in a great location for accessing Whitby. There were a few issues locating the car parking space and keys, which would be improved with some better signage. Communication with the host was friendly and efficient.

Positive: Great little ground floor apartment , nice modern decor. Parking space which seems to be rare in Whitby! Added bonus was a nice wrap around garden/ courtyard. Location was perfect, 5 minute walk to the harbour. Negative: The builders working on another property right outside the bedroom window ( started at 8am every morning !) They parked their work van next to our car which made it a very tight squeeze to get into the car. Obviousley no fault to the owners of Shipright lodge. It wouldnt stop us staying here again , we loved the apartment.

Negative: Mattress in bedrooms all need replacing you sit on them and the mattress collapses . Also bath is very very slippy need either a handle or a slip mat or both could be very dangerous for an elderly person. It also said cleaning products and bathroom products would be provided there was none and only 1 toilet roll for 6 days we had to buy washing up liquid and clothes etc toilet rolls and bathroom products….. would of brought them with us if we had known .

Positive: Modern well equipped Negative: Uncomfortable beds, freezer not cleaned after last guest rubbish and food remnants left, patio furniture filthy needed to be washed down before use, ovenshelves with burned on food, covering by silver foil doesn't cut it. Parking requires black taxi turning circle.

The apartment was exactly as described. Facilities were excellent. Beds very comfortable and plenty of bedding. Plenty of kitchen equipment and all very well set out. Outside space large and private. Added bonus a good parking space. Could not fault anything at all and will definitely recommend to friends and family. Very easy access to central Whitby and harbour.

A lovely little stay in whitby! the host was so responsive- replies in 10 mins and gave a great recommendation for lunch. The place is a nice 5 min walk from the centre of whitby and has a lovely outside area. Inside was absolutely spotless and very cosy vibes inside with blankets and a smart tv. We enjoyed our stay so much it was perfect- thank you!!

Had everything could think of to stay for a number of days. Great to have a parking space very easy to walk into town. Love all the modern equipment and furnishing with added bonus of a decent size out door area. Be nice to sit outside if weather was sunny. Would definitely stop again

we arrived in the dark,and rain so it was harder to find the apartment. But once found and easily parked, was a great location. the apartment was lovely inside. Nicely decorated, modern. Everything we needed was supplied . warm and quiet also.

Great location in Whitby. Apartment was perfect for the weekend. Charlie was very helpful and answered any questions quickly. We will definitely re use this apartment if visiting the area again

The flat was clean and cosy with a good location and all the amenities we needed. It was disappointing that the agency had a hidden 'accidental damage insurance' fee that was not advertised in the listing and was a requirement of the stay. We also had several particularly tricky encounters with the agency and their unfriendly and inflexible service before we arrived. It is a real shame that the agency was so difficult to deal with as the flat itself was exactly what we wanted.

Could do with a mirror next to a socket only 1 in the bedroom tucked behind the door , apart from bathroom one which obviously no socket. Only criticism

Ideal location, clean and well furnished. Could perhaps provide more of a welcome pack, rather than just 4 thimble cartons of milk for 4 guests, on a minimum 2 night stay basis and no biscuits.
