This is an absolutely beautiful house in a perfect location in Staithes. The only problem is the upkeep, which is an easy fix and would make all the difference. We are a family of 4 that stays in Staithes a few times a year. This is a beautiful home with all the amenities needed and has been done to a lovely standard. However a few significant upkeep issues did impact our stay. The mould in the bathroom shower head was disgusting. The oven was broken and did not work. Window Blinds in multiple rooms were damaged. The dish washer was rusted on the inside, making it appear very unclean. Would recommend based on location and overall facilities but some cleaning/upkeep would be helpful.

A great place to stay in the heart of Staithes. The sea views from the bedrooms were fantastic. A very clean and comfortable cottage with spacious rooms, ideal for a family of 4 with a dog ! I would definitely like to visit again.

Lovely location but needs some TLC Positive: The location is beautiful and the property is spacious for families. Negative: It needs some TLC. The home wasn't as clean as we would have liked. The walls are all marked, rugs dirty and missing handles on wardrobes and cupboards. We found dirty plates and pans also. It would have been much nicer if it would be better presented by the owners.

Good property, great location and reasonably priced Positive: Perfect location, good size property for a family of 4. It was good to have two bathrooms. The views from the top room were spectacular. Negative: The property was naturally too hot for us, there was no heating on and even when it was cold outside the property was boiling. The dvd player didn’t work and we couldn’t find the outside bins. I didn’t like how host and stay try to get more money for a deposit/deposit waver, after you have booked. This might make me think twice about booking with them again.

Poor first impressions due to poor hosting company! Positive: great location but on arrival first impression not great - cold and dirty -see below other than issues below well laid out cottage, nicely furnished and good kitchen bathroom and en-suite facilities -the owners has refurbished it really well - the host company they use needs attention on maintenance and cleaning standards. Negative: 1. the OTT extra charges for damage waiver or breakages - it’s a money making con 2. poor cleaning and maintenance by host company 3. inflexibility of check in / out times and the traffic chaos 10am creates for residents and guest when cleaners can only clean one house at a time - the excuse used to get out by 10! in detail so you can improve: dirty windows on ground level could’t see out the kitchen door - or lounge windows - took us 10 minutes clean so we could see out - basic stuff that on the ground level the cleaners could easily reach as it’s the first impression it creates- the lounge floor and carpet was filthy - dirty stains and not hovered - the TV cupboard with CD snd books was a mess as was the kitchen sink cupboard - no dish cloth , or cleaning materials and one tea towel - no hover to clean up either for longer stays with kids in and out but this may not bother others it did us as we like things clean and tidy and expect it when we pay for a holiday home of this level and rating. The bed in the top bedroom kept collapsing - the slats from the bed kept popping out despite us putting back in twice - the loo seat in en-suite needs tighten up as it was hanging off - simple fix maintenance issues and the bottom of the wardrobe was full off untidy kept spare bedding for change over in a ripped bag - just shoddy.

1 Barras Square was a truly fantastic stay, very clean and Beautiful sea views from each bedroom. The house was right next to the harbour and the beach a 1-2 min walk away, fully equipped with everything you need for your stay and even some extras. Very well presented and the photos are a true representation of the house. It was peaceful and lots to do in the village of staithes would 100% recommend staying here :) we stayed with 3 dogs and 2 kids and had plenty of space.

Fantastic place to stay, charming cobbled streets, lovely harbour and clean beach. Positive: Location was amazing, the sea harbour/beach was on our doorstep. Weather was sunny and dry which was a bonus. Our cottage was very clean and tidy, lovely modern kitchen and two big bedrooms with on suite facilities. Local pub beside us, very quiet could not hear any noise at all, locals were very friendly. Quaint Staithes museum on hand which was very interesting, bought some local crafts which were priced very reasonable. Plenty of places to visit nearby, great walks for our dog, also the beaches were clean and litter free. Lovely place to stay. Negative: Not a lot I did not like, very minor things, couches in the cottage were uncomfortable, way too small, also wardrobe in top bedroom could not open, no handles on it. Living room blind would not close properly (think at some point a dog has chewed on them previously) Parking was at the top of the hill which was a bit of a hike every day.

Great stay in lovely cottage. Would highly recommend Positive: Fabulous property. Great for 2 couples. Perfect location in Staithes. Close to the beach, pub and to generally wander. The cottage is bright and airy and well equipped ( you just need salt,pepper etc if you intend cooking) although little shop nearby where you can purchase if required. Overall excellent and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Negative: Outdoor area and back door at covered in seagull poop. Could do with jet washing. Although you only need to use this door to take rubbish out. It could be made into a nicer space tho.

We made a huge error in booking this property, without checking out the reviews first, which said basically that the pla Positive: Nothing Negative: Location, at the bottom of a very steep hill. The double bedroom was on the third floor up some narrow stairs, near the good for an older couple with knee problems!

Great cottage just let down slightly by first impressions. Positive: Ideal location. Right next to a pub and the beach. Negative: The downstairs windows were very dirty, not just a few days of dirt. My wife spent the first half hour of our stay cleaning the windows and front door. We honestly could not see through them.The rear yard was unusable due to the amount of pigeon and seagull poo!! Not been cleaned for a long long time! Outside bin was also full when we arrived, so had no where to place or bin bags when they were full.

This is a great little cottage right next to the harbour and the Cod & Lobster that serves wonderful seafood. 2 lovely bedrooms each with a window overlooking the harbour and each with its own bathroom, both with shower and one with bath too. Very comfortable beds 1 king size the other with 2 singles. Lovely crisp white cotton bedding and plenty white towels. Kitchen well kitted out with everything you need including dishwasher (no washing machine or freezer). All facilities v good for this type of cottage in Staithes. Shame then there’s a few little things that could easily be put right - lounge blind needs replacing (been chewed by a dog), several bedroom furniture handles are broken - it’s good quality and handles good easily be replaced, lounge rug could be replaced as it’s a bit dirty and the sofas are past their best. The place is up for sale and could do with a little TLC but it was clean and very comfortable for a short stay. No parking in Staithes so reserve private parking

Nice weather and did what l planned to do. Positive: Location was perfect for me. Negative: The windows where dirty the house was up for sale.

Most enjoyable stay and Staithes itself is such a historic place and a great place for a base to venture to places like Whitby, Robin Hood Bay and for Heartbeat enthusiasts Goathland. Fantastic walks with Cleveland Way walk for those that enjoy walking. Highly recommended.

Amazing place and fabulous location. We stayed here once before a few years ago and it had not been cleaned when we arrived. I am so happy we gave it another chance because it was very clean and everything was perfect. The location is excellent and the house had everything we needed. The beds are comfortable and linens are all lovely. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We can’t wait to return next year!

Almost perfect but needs good quality sofas and a smart tv to get a perfect 10 Positive: A beautifully decorated cottage in a great location . Negative: The sofas were horribly uncomfortable to a point that we wouldn’t stay again. Such a shame on everything else is so perfect.. a modern smart TV in the living room would be a good idea as well. The water pressure was so slow. It would take 10 minutes to fill a pound.

Just returns from a 4 night stay at Sea Haven. Location was perfect, right in the harbour, we would definitely recommend eating at the Cod and Lobster, the seafood was delicious! The house was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. It would have been helpful to have the WiFi password in the information that was sent out, as we had to hunt around for it. A blind on the kitchen door window would be nice for a little extra privacy, as you are directly behind another house and can see straight into their kitchen, but this was a minor thing. Would definitely recommend staying here and I would definitely return .

Enjoyable short stay in a comfortable cottage right in the centre of the village. 30 seconds walk to two good pubs. Very quaint village with a pleasant harbour and beach. Cottage was easy to find and good communication from the host. Recommended.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay. Seahaven is right in the Centre of Staithes close to both pubs in the village and the beach. The cottage is beautiful clean and spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. We would highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing location and cozy home! We would definitely rebook! So peaceful and tons of friendly locals and other holiday makers! We loved how dog friendly it was too!

Ich würde gerne wieder kommen! Positive: Wunderbare Lage, fast direkt am Hafenstrand, allerdings keine Möglichkeit am Haus zu parken, dadurch war das Ausladen und Einladen etwas stressig. Parkplätze in der Nähe sehr teuer, aber dadurch auch kaum Autoverkehr ums Haus. Die Aussicht vom obersten Stock, besonders vom Badezimmer aus, war sehr schön. Der Ort Staithes ist wunderschön, eine tolle Erfahrung mitten in diesem historischen Ort zu wohnen, auch wenn es nur ein paar Tage waren! Negative: Wir ziehen Metalltöpfe den beschichteten vor, denn die letzteren sind schnell verkratzt. Es waren zu wenig Gabeln da, gerade mal vier Stück, wir haben dann ein paar in Whitby dazugekauft. Aber isgesamt war die Kücheneinrichtung gut.

Sea Haven is a well-presented and spacious cottage, offering a comfortable layout and good amenities. However, several aspects could benefit from attention. The dishwasher trays are rusty, and the lack of blinds in the kitchen compromises privacy. The living area is generous, though the sofas are stained and uncomfortable. Bedrooms are a good size with extra quilts provided. Heating and hot water were not activated on arrival, and the system was difficult to navigate—clear written instructions would be helpful. The area outside the back door was heavily soiled with pigeon mess, posing a slip hazard and making bin access unpleasant. Additionally, the kitchen window is difficult to reach. While the cottage has potential, these issues impacted our experience. We have previously enjoyed Host & Stay properties, and with some improvements, Sea Haven could meet the same high standards.

Positive: Lovely quaint property , nice location

When we arrived the home had not been cleaned. Dishwasher full of dishes and bins full of rubbish. The beds were dirty and unmade and we found used tissues in the bedding. The towels from the previous person were on the floor in the showers, wet and dirty. Used shampoo bottles and dirty sinks. The beds and floors were sandy. We were unable to make contact with our host that day and the home was not cleaned until 23.5 hours after we checked in. So, we had dirty bedding and no towels for our first night. We were given a partial refund and the location is excellent. I would have given this place 5 stars if it had been clean but since it wasn’t and the host was hard to reach I would not stay again or recommend to friends or family. A shame as it’s a lovely house and location and deserves better care.

Disappointing; there was no hot water in the property for the first 2 days of pur 3 night stay. Positive: The location Negative: There was no hot water in the property. We lost most of the 2nd day of our 3 night stay trying to convince the host to send a maintenance technician to resolve it.

We had a great stay. Lovely place. Loved the village. Parking as described. Bit of a jam getting out of the village but that was expected with it being bank holiday and half term week. The dishwasher seal was damaged and didn’t want to risk using it, but that was fine, just washed up few bits used. We made the most of the lovely food available in the village. Good communication- everything was great - thank you

Absolutely stunning location in a beautiful fishing village. Everything you could need in the house and easy to get to the cafes and pubs of Staithes.

Great location, beautiful property which needs a few snags sorting to make it perfect. Positive: Perfect location. Beautifully decorated and comfortable. Great views. We felt very safe and secure here. The place was well equipped. We really did enjoy our stay here and would definitely stay again despite the few snags mentioned below. Negative: There were a few snags that need sorting. E.g. windows need a clean. Outside backdoor there is bird poo which is INCHES thick and at face height if you go out there (and splashed on back door window). So we didn’t want to go out there as looked a health hazard. Lots of the handles on bedroom furniture broken making it difficult and impossible in some circumstances to open drawers/wardrobes. One of the bathroom sinks doesn’t drain properly.

Having such a beautiful place to stay in and so close to the amenitie made our stay perfect Positive: Great location.

Good location but no parking Positive: In the heart of the village, with good shower, comfy bad, smart tv and a dishwasher. Negative: No parking or permit for the village as other rentals there. Parking was a 10-minute walk up the hill. Living room furniture was basic.

Be aware of the hidden extra charges with Host & Stay, Positive: This property is in a good central location by the harbour. Negative: This property certainly doesn’t give you a warm welcoming feel. All the windows are dirty, covered in cobwebs and bird poop that clearly never get cleaned. The 2 very small sofas are stained, along with the rug that is dirty and look like dog hair left on it. The kitchen benches clearly hadn’t been sterilised with crumbs and what looked like chocolate raisins left for us to clean up.The dish washer is all rusted inside. The kitchen window and door looked out onto the back of the property and is heavily soiled with bird poo and hasn’t been cleaned for a very long time which was absolutely disgusting. We rescued 8 spiders that with hanging around in the cobwebs inside the property. Also the double bedding was stained and dusty pillows like the property had maybe been empty for a long time. I won’t be booking any properties with Host & stay in the future as I wasn’t happy about the £25 extra charge that I was required to pay 7days prior to my Arrival as the bill I had already paid to booking.com states that it included taxes and charges. I was then welcomed at the property with an email reminder that if I broke anything I must report it immediately to avoid any further chargers. This property certainly lacks an owners personal touch.

Negative: no instructions about heating/hot water systems. bedroom blinds could have been more light excluding - no curtains. having to pay separate insurance deposit fee not clearly mentionned when booking made which said no other fees applicanble. never had to pay a separate charge before over many years using booking.com

the accommodations was lovely. the location was hilly with lots of stairs with carpark a 10min walk away. might have been nice if there were a few board games in the cupboard.

Sea Haven Positive: So close to the harbour. Lovely fishing village . Close to Whitby, Runswick Bay, Saltburn., Filey Negative: The cleanliness of the cooker, sofa, rugs, cushions . Just needed cleaning properly...A little more TLC... Otherwise a lovely stay No washing machine or tumble dryer as per the site suggested.

Ich buchte die Unterkunft sehr lange im vorraus, allerdings wurden die Parkgelegenheit in der Zwischenzeit geändert: man kann sein Auto nur gegen eine Parkgebühr von 7,20 pro 24h am öffentlichen Parkplatz parken, der 8 Minuten Gehzeit (bergauf) liegt (im ursprünglichen Inserat wurde von einer Genhemigung gesprochen, die man erhalten kann; dies wurde jetzt geändert). Zudem hat die Unterkunft keine Waschmaschine, wie im Inserat angegeben; da dies für uns unbedingt notwendig war, mussten wir die Unterkunft wechslen. Obwohl die Kommunikation promt erfolgt ist, konnten wir keine gemeinsame Lösung finden, weswegen wir schlussendlich stornieren und eine andere Unterkunft suchen mussten. Insgesamt: schöne Lage wenn man kleine Häfen liebt, aber für längere Aufenthalte warscheinlich nicht gut geeigent (Parkkonditionen und Fehlen der Waschmaschine).

The house is in a great location in a lovely village, sea views from the bedrooms. We arrived to find a dirty kitchen, and no cleaning supplies to tackle it ourselves. Contacted Host & Stay, very slow to respond. Eventually offered to send someone to clean the kitchen but by this time (2 days later) we were due to check out. Middle floor bathroom light wouldn’t work when the landing light is on. Dishwasher in the kitchen but no dishwasher tabs or cleaning supplies. Also there is no parking permit as mentioned in other reviews. Parking at the top of the village at £6 per day. Has the potential to be a great holiday let, but requires better management and a little TLC. Wouldn’t use Host & Stay again after this experience.

Lovely part of North Yorkshire. Relaxing. Positive: Location. Comfy bed. Negative: Wasn’t very clean. Door handles had come off the wardrobes & drawers in the bedroom so not easy to open. Central heating wasn’t working (electric heaters provided instead). No free parking pass (company providing refund). Windows were dirty.

Nice cottage and location, but…. Great location for sure, and this is a wonderful location. But… the house was for sale and I wonder if this has impacted some of the cleaning (cobwebs, filthy microwave and rusting knives). The biggest issue was construction going on next door and not being made aware this was taking place in advance (otherwise we would have cancelled). Lots of scaffold over windows, and banging/music going on - this would have been in place for several days/weeks. Stayed here before and love this place but this time it was really disappointing and I don’t think we’d return. Feedback sent and awaiting response.

The house was lovely and in a really great location. The listing has some inaccuracies - a parking permit for ‘nearby’ was mentioned in a couple of places which was partly why we chose the property but there wasn’t one and parking was up a steep hill and £6 a day. The guide we were sent mentioned steaming services but there was none on the main TV. I emailed the host about the parking and go to reply, only generic welcome and goodbye messages. We did think the house was great but more and clear accurate listing information would have helped.

Cosy cottage Positive: Good location in the bottom of the village with views of the habour from the bedrooms. Spacious comfortable accommodation. Close to the amenites, a lovely little village with nooks and crannys to investigate through the hidden streets. Negative: The cottage has a small back yard, nothing you would sit in, but it certainly needed cleaning.

We enjoyed our stay on the location was great, the interior of the property was clean, lacked a wwashung machine. Positive: Location was good, right in the centre of the village with views of the sea by the bedrooms. Large master bedroom. Good facilities overall. Clean except for the areas/items outlined below. Negative: The windows were very dirty, as was the back yard, and the lounge rug needs cleaning. Some handles had fallen off cupboards/draws and not been replaced. It could use a washing machine as we discovered it didn’t have one and there was no laundrette nearby.

Without question, the location of this property is absolutely wonderful. As is the view from both windows of the sea, the close proximity to the beach and the pub… wonderful! The house itself was also very comfortable. I don’t usually have any grumbles, but with this stay unfortunately I do have. Lesson learned - read T&C’s in more detail. I frequently use Air B&B and have attended online courses re becoming a host myself, so was surprised when, after booking realised I had to pay a damage deposit of £250 (refundable) and then on top of that either a £10 (non refundable) admin charge or spend an extra £25 for extra holiday insurance that I don’t need. As I understand it, AirB&B offer hosts amazing cover for damage liability. It seemed unnecessary to ask for such a deposit AND the extra charges I incurred after booking. Grumble over. ☺️- Location ☺️- Homely feel ☺️- Views ☺️- Warm and plenty of hot water 😣- Extra costs 😣- No milk, bread, butter etc. 😣- Could be cleaner
