Positive: Location was great. Negative: It wasn't the cleanest.. My daughter had to get the hoover out in her bedroom & hoover up chips!

Beautiful Georgian building with gorgeous big windows letting in lots of natural light, well-equipped, and in a fantastic location, easy access to the city centre and uphill areas on the west bank, plus a nearby play park, which was great with a little one. However, some challenges affected our stay. The location on Google Maps is misleading; the actual entrance is on Walker Street, outside the parking spot. The parking is unsuitable, took multiple attempts to get in, and unloading the car was difficult. I wouldn’t recommend using it. The biggest issue was the second bedroom. The bed is completely unfit for purpose, it squeaks with the slightest movement, making it impossible to sleep. Until it’s replaced, this is realistically a one-bedroom property. If these issues were fixed, it would be a fantastic place to stay.

We stayed at Scoresby place in the last week of July 2023. It's a great place for a family with school-age children. It's in a slightly hilly area and on first floor, so not for people with limited mobility. The parking space is right outside the entrance, but it's a narrow road with cars parked along, so an SUV might struggle to turn into the space. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking the evening meal if we didn't feel like going out. There were a few games and books in the cupboard. The whole flat is pleasant and airy, tidy and clean. The kids loved the deep bathtub, which was also useful for rinsing the sand off our things after the beach. The flat is very close to Whitby's shopping area with both independent shops and supermarkets less than 5 mins away. The host is a local agency and they were very proactive with communications and even checked for our lost property after after checkout when I called them up.

Lovely place in Whitby Positive: Excellent location, beautiful building and rooms, everything you need for a couple of days. Negative: Bedside light would useful in smaller bedroom and the light on smoke detector was flashing all night too.

Scoresby Place Couldn't find the property initially. The map link supplied by the property manager took us to the wrong location. Wife checked another travel marketplace and found the location in a different street - Walker Street. Still no sign of named property at the end. By chance we bumped into the owner of the building that the apartment was in - Jameson House, who was able to direct us. We would never have found it otherwise as Scoresby Place is not signed anywhere. The allocated parking place is VERY tight to get in and out of, especially with an estate car and a banksman was needed. The property is Georgian with nice high ceilings, big shuttered windows and some other period features. Living room and bedrooms are bright and airy. Although prepared to a certain standard there were marks and stains on walls and doors and the rug in the living room was badly stained. The bathroom door didn't have a lock and wouldn't stay closed, it kept popping open. The shower had good water pressure though. The inside front door handle is hanging on by a single screw although a newer twist lock has been installed above it. The trim under the kitchen units kept falling down every time we opened the dishwasher door. The bed in the smaller front bedroom was creaky to the point of being unusable. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Whitby but feel that the property needs a bit of attention to merit a better score.

It was a nice enough flat, short walk into the main areas of Whitby (although hilly but everywhere is!). Modern and plain - very much a business let rather than someone's home. Pros: Short walking distance into main shopping/eating areas Had all amenities e.g. cookware, TV, Wifi, washing up liquid, loo roll and kitchen roll etc. Free of clutter Comfy beds Cons: Very tight parking space, we have a larger car and it was quite difficult parking, along with being up a very narrow street which can cause issues if someone is trying to come out. Also someone else had parked in the allocated space when we went out for the day so we had to park elsewhere. Flat is loud (road noise and neighbours footsteps) Odd layout Heavy doors which close loudly, doorstops are provided but still can be tricky trying to be quiet for neighbours or sleeping children. Flooring is spongy and uneven, feels like walking on a soft playground floor, not good for those with mobility issues.

Perfect for relaxing after a long day at work

The location and cleanliness were excellent - we were ideally situated to walk to the attractions and meet friends who were staying locally. It's also a lovely flat - we loved the big windows, so much natural light! The negatives are the parking / finding the place - it's up a very narrow street and it took me several tries to get into the parking space ! Also the bed in the second bedroom is SO incredibly squeaky - it was impossible to sleep in there the bed was so loud, this must be replaced.

I stayed here over Christmas and had a great time. The apartment is lovely and right in the middle of Whitby. The town is beautiful with loads to do and of course in the wonderful Yorkshire Moors. Highly recommend

Lovely converted traditional building in the heart of Whitby Positive: A lovely traditional building in a very well positioned location. The off street parking is a blessing in a town with minimal free parking. The renter sent regular updates in the run up to the stay. Negative: Nothing wrong with the property for me, though i would say the numerous messages referring to ‘damage’ & ‘accidental damage’… i understand the frustration of undeclared damage but the repetition felt somewhat accusatory

Positive: The apartment building and surrounding areas were fairly quiet, very little noise. Directions to property were clear. Short walking distance for Cinder Track and town centre Negative: Too many AI style emails from Host and Stay. Still no oven gloves in the kitchen, despite previous feedback. Still no transparency regarding "damage waiver fees."

Perfect location, comfortable stay Positive: Lovely apartment with character, easy walking distance to everything and free parking space so perfect for days out of Whitby without worrying about parking when you get back (especially with kids). Negative: Only minor thing but there were no oven gloves in the kitchen and didn't have a high chair even though the listing mentioned one.

Negative: Although the property was clean, the bedroom dressing table draw was dirty. The external corners at front of the shower were black with dirt and mould. Also behind the bathroom door. Strips of flooring in the kitchen had gaps between them. The kick boards under the units in the kitchen had not been fitted and fell out. Tried to contact Host and Stay, but they did not return our calls.

Great central apartment with parking. Positive: Great place to stay, clean and comfortable, everything that you could need. Also free parking which is always essential in Whitby. Central to everything, easy walk into town. Negative: Nothing, although quite a few steps if someone has mobility issues.

Ok just a few niggles. Positive: Spacious. Negative: The shower kept slipping down the pole so the water went all over place. Over the door and onto the floor. The flooring was missing in places so it was hard to walk on. Trip hazard. There was no wardrobe in the second bedroom so you couldn’t hang up your clothes.

A Fantastic time in a historic building. We loved the Georgian shutters, the large rooms with high ceilings and the park Positive: Location, the history of the building and the parking. Negative: Not much at all! The only very small negatives I can think of was there were no scrubbers to wash pans and the hoover didn’t pick up very well. But I’m being picky here.

Nice apartment, watch out for the address though! Positive: Clean, comfy apartment with basic amenities for a short stay. Lovely building. Good location for walking into Whitby. Negative: The address they give you is for the front of the house, but your access and parking is at the back – which is on a different street. 25 minutes of confusion could be avoided if the letting company just gave you the relevant address in the first place!

It was a nice pleasant break Positive: The location to the town centre and st hildas church...was a short walk the down side was the steep hill to gain access only from walker street.. Could not use the shower due to its small size and the extractor fan in the bathroom didnt work possibly switched off...but the property in the interior was good...the kitchen laminate floor a section kept moving... Negative: On our first day of occupancy we never had any heating...mix up with the engineer gaining access..

scoresby Place Positive: the location was very good, very spacious and good size double rooms, the history of the building was very interesting, good to have private parking, I'm sure we will be staying in this apartment in the future. Negative: if there was three vehicles parking in the bays it would be a struggle to park either a van or large car.

However, finding the exact location was a bit tricky. Flashing light!! Positive: The bathroom was nice, very spacious. Excellent views from the front. Negative: The parking location isn't great. The bed in the front room creaked with the slightest bit of movement. The fire/smoke detector constantly flashing throughout the night and the shutters on the windows not closing properly letting light in.

Great place located within a couple of minutes of town. The space itself is nice and has a parking space. I had trouble personally trying to find the place because of the number of communications you receive from Airbnb themselves it’s hard to find the directions when you need them in your emails and/or apps. A what3words link would’ve made it a lot easier to find. The flat has every kind of cooking utensil you could need. If you want condiments though you should bring your own e.g. salt and pepper. The walls and floors are clean. I would like to mention though that the second bed is extremely squeaky and if you roll over it will wake you up.

We loved our stay in Whitby, parking is tight but great location so worth it as everything is walkable distance from the house. Would recommend.

Apartment was pristine and in a really good location. Parking was very tight but was right outside the apartment so quite convenient. Hosts replied quickly to any questions. Overall worth the price.

Unpleasant. Positive: Nothing. It was dirty, grimy and stained carpets. Negative: Parking. Stains. Dirt. Hair in cupboards on plates. Broken doors and handles. Broken oven.

Convenient access to town. Spacious apartment but requires improvements. Positive: The apartment was spacious. Having a dedicated parking space was a big advantage. The apartment had microwave, toaster and good size fridge available for use. Negative: Very sparse decoration. Quite bland in colour. Difficulty getting reliable internet for the TV so was unable to watch a programme uninterrupted. Contacted the number given to help but got no response. I didn’t feel that the non-refundable £30 payment for expected damage to the apartment was not made clear on the initial booking. This was only introduced after the booking had been made. We didn’t damage anything but still paid this payment. If this has been taken from each customer I would have expected an immaculate apartment, but the rug was heavily stained, a single chair was stained, the facia boards in the kitchen were loose, and the kitchen door handle was broken. I personally felt that my £30 payment was taken to pay for others damage, but possibly was not being spent on fixing the damage. I also did not appreciate the constant emails giving me the same information in an unreadable format that I could not download to access the key pad code.

Great location.

The Apartment is spacious and comfortable within a truly lovely interior with a lot of interesting history! The only complaints would be locating property as I don’t think it is explained properly on page also toilet seat was broken and could do with an upgrade! We would stay again as location is good and parking space in Whitby is precious!

We had a lovely mini break. The host was very helpful, especially when I forgot to complete the final part of checking in. The apartment is well located, easy walking distance to town and all that Whitby has to offer. The parking space was a welcome bonus and meant we didn't have to worry about parking in the main car park. Inside was light and airy, plenty of room and as described. Having a separate shower to the bath was great. The window shutters block out the light and provide privacy. I would recommend this place. We had a lovely experience.

Positive: Well positioned apartment. A little on the stark side. Free toiletries were non existent.( 1 x sachet of shower gel/ shower gel. 1 x toilet roll and a tiny bar of soap. A great TV that we couldn't watch as there were no terrestrial channels, and we didn't have our satellite passwords with us. Negative: No coffee making facilities.

Positive: The apartment was beautiful, decorated to a high standard, mixing old with new ,the kitchen had everything you wanted if you wanted to use it we only used the kettle and the toaster. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was to die for with its magnificent bath,not that we used it,the shower was good enough for our short stay.The location was great only a 3min walk to the harbour and all the amenities. I would definitely recommend this property. Negative: There was only one wardrobe to share and it was in the main bedroom. It was a little cold,and you couldn't put heating on .

Good value for money, but very difficult to find Positive: The property was clean and secure. The location was okay, once we were able to find it - see section below. The beds were comfy and the lounge area was nice for chatting. We would stay again, now that we know how to get there!! Negative: The location of the property was not adequately described in either the listing or in the information provided following the booking. The address that we were given did *not* help with finding the place, and the first person we spoke to when we phoned did not know how to direct us to the property. This was stressful and unpleasant, particularly as we were tired from a long day and it was getting dark. The 'front' of the property which is where Google maps directed us does not give access to the apartment, and we eventually had to navigate the one-way system multiple times before we we directed on a second phone call to the actual street where the entrance is. This confusion and stress marred an otherwise pleasant stay. The decor was a little sparse, and provision of some basics like kitchen sponges, washing up liquid, tea-towels etc would be helpful.

We would definitely stay there again and have no hesitation in recommending it to other people. Positive: A large excellently presented older style apartment maintaining all of its original features in a very tasteful style. The property was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Negative: Not the easiest place to find. We selected the property because it is in the middle of Whitby, finding it on arrival proved problematic, that maybe down to our failure to follow the instructions correctly.

The apartment was spacious, clean and fresh with neutral decor. The shower was good,which I always feel is important! The smart TV with access to Netflix was appreciated. The location was good, though as with many places in Whitby, there is a steep hill to get up to the property. The reason I haven't given a better score is because there ars a few things that could do with fixing. The bed in the smaller bedroom squeaks so loudly with any movement that it kept me awake, even with earplugs in. Also, in the living room one of the windows was open at the top and we couldnt get it closed which made it cold. The bathroom is nice with a lovely roll top bath but could do with some shelves to put washbags on rather than having to use the floor. Other than the bed, I wouldn't usually have been as concerned about these things, but it's not a cheap property to stay in and you have to pay extra for the damage waiver, so I think they should be addressed.

Not a relaxing place to stay in, but could be made so with a few small changes. Positive: Light and spacious and clean, evidently newly refurbished. Bed was comfortable. Negative: Expensive for the area at peak prices and even with Booking.com discount. Huge security bond required (could be waived at additional cost)! Difficult to find due to postcode confusion, parking and entrance at different postcode to the postal address and SatNav map pin in brochure. Parking very tight and awkward to manoeuvre into. Very characterful property, but made too sterile; bland monochrome decor, no artwork on walls, no books, magazines or information on local area etc. Large selection of glasses in well equipped kitchen, but we would be scared to open a bottle of red wine, incase of spillage. Only oversize mugs for beverages, no cups. Lots of other minor annoyances, like cramped shower cubicle without even a small soap dish to stand your shampoo bottle on. Strenuous walk uphill from Station and town/restaurants and shops.

The apartment is well presented in a fantastic location within walking distance of Whitby town centre. The parking space is much appreciated, as this is hard to come by in Whitby. However, I do have some concerns. I'm uneasy about the additional deposit payment after booking. Airbnb explicitly warns against off-platform payments, yet the host sent me a link to pay a separate company "Superhog" after booking. The options are a non-refundable £25 fee to waive the deposit or pay the full £250 deposit with a non-refundable £10 admin fee. The host claims the fee is for "transferring to the other bank," but it seems unreasonable for a card transaction to cost £10. Had I read the fine print, I may not have booked. Blatantly passing on insurance costs directly to customers feels unfair and leaves a sour taste in your mouth. It also artificially makes the booking appear cheaper upon booking. For the sake of transparency, such costs and fees should be factored into the overall booking.

Positive: The location is ideal. The apartment is spacious and well equipped. Easy to access as per instructions provided. Negative: It is rare to have an allocated parking space in Whitby however it is a very tight space especially when the adjacent space is occupied. Luckily I have a small car but it may help future guests if this were mentioned in the property description.

All in all, exactly what we wanted. Parking was a minor inconvenience, only because it is congested and I had difficulty getting our car into the allotted space given the surrounding vehicles. Apart from this, exactly what we expected.
