A very old cottage with a damp and musty smell. No private ground only communal. Very isolated although near to Holt.
Convenient location, local pub The Wheatsheaf served excellent food just a short drive away. The cottage was clean and cozy and had everything you could need if you wanted to stay home and cook. Bedrooms were comfortable and adequately furnished, although I personally found the beds uncomfortable, too soft, and did not sleep well. But maybe just a personal thing. Other than that I would recommend the cottage.
Really comfortable Positive: Very well equipped Negative: The stairs were lethal specially for my 80 year old mum
We stayed at Sandpipers in Baconsthorpe, Holt for three nights in July 2026 and had a lovely experience. The cottage was quaint, comfortable, clean, and very well equipped, with thoughtful touches that made it feel welcoming from the moment we arrived. Its location is excellent — peaceful and rural, yet perfectly positioned for exploring the surrounding countryside and the beautiful Norfolk coast. We found it easy to reach nearby villages, walking routes, and coastal spots like Sheringham and Cromer.A charming property in a great setting.
We loved our stay, the cottage is exactly the same as the one I stayed in regularly as a child. So the staircase could be challenging for some people. But the cottage itself is fully equipped and very comfortable. The distance to anywhere is short (but you need a car) however I would recommend taking your bikes as there are plenty of lanes and countryside to take full advantage of. While there we visited Holt, Holt Country Park, Sherringham, Sherringham Park and of course a seaside day at Cromer all possible with a car. The cottage is located down a lane that is long and suitable for the most part for one vehicle but there are passing places.
Although the property was in Baconsthorpe, and not Holt as shown on the map, it was in a quiet, rural area surrounded by fields. The garden backed onto a field and was a castle and church within walking distance.
Positive: Lovely little cottage in a very good location for us and the Dog. Negative: Nothing we didn't like
Our stay at Sandpipers was restful and very enjoyable. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable, although the stairs were steep and windy which may not be suitable for those with limited mobility! We took our dog on holiday for the first time and the walks from the cottage were lovely. It was a great base to explore north Norfolk.
A total disaster. Weekend ruined. Took a month to get refunded. Positive: Nothing Negative: Dirty, not prepared, smelly, ill-equipped. Host & Stay awful to deal with. Surprised Booking.com accept this property on website. When challenged, Booking.com agent told us "We're just a travel agent" & hung up the phone.
Overall quite disappointing Positive: Location Negative: Smelt damp and was dirty
A lovely home from home! Positive: A really cosy, homely cottage. Lots of great information about what to do in the surrounding area, and there's everything you need for a comfortable stay. Thank you!
Positive: The property was well equipped with everything you may need & it is in a peaceful location. Negative: .
Cosy and comfortable, a little rough around the edges but perfectly serviceable. The location was perfect for our needs and it was well stocked with utensils and amenities.
