Great place for a couple and dogs. Positive: Location great central location for walking, cosy and warm, clean and tidy. Lovely to have a bottle of wine waiting for us. Negative: Could not pick fault with it.

Great local pub as well Negative: Be aware that Host&Stay ask for either a non-refundable £10 admin fee and £250 damage deposit, or a £25 nonrefundable damage waiver fee.

Excellent property, very comfortable, will definitely be using again. Positive: The cottage was excellent, very clean and had everything we wanted. The location was good for where ever we wanted to travel. Excellent dog walks and very good pubs. Negative: The back of the property was very untidy and needed to be sorted out. The door lock also needs to be looked at as difficult to lock.

Lovely cottage in a remote and quiet location. Ideal for a refresh and relaxing few days away. Positive: The cottage was well maintained and cosy. A nice bright lounge and good size kitchen for two people. The bedroom was large with a lovely en-suite. The hosts had provided bits to get us going, such as dishwasher tablets and tea bags which was great. Good facilities, comfy sofa and bed. Negative: I didn’t like having to enter the property from the rear. The entrance area was a little untidy. It would also have been good if the garden space was more secure, it was fine for our dog if we went out with him, but sometimes the gate had been left open where it’s a shared entrance. Inside the property I also found the stairs to be very steep and the bedroom was very light in the mornings.

Positive: The location is in an idyllic village that would suit anyone wanting a break from the rigours of normal life... I stayed for work purposes, so found it a little remote, but that was purely the fact that I needed to make calls and work on emails. The wifi password had changed so i was incommunicado for an hour or so, until the neighbour came around to let me know what the password was. There is no phone signal at all, anywhere in the village, which would be great if it wasn't for me being away with work!!

Cosy cottage in a great location. Positive: Fantastic location. Cosy, warm traditional cottage in the heart of the village. Nicely decorated with good fixtures and fittings. Lovely bathroom with underfloor heating. Loved the old photos of the cottage. Great walks from the doorstep as well as slightly further afield. Good parking opposite the cottage. Negative: There is no outside garden to sit in (we checked with a neighbour) so for us, definitely a winter choice rather than a summer one. The property is accessed from the back which needs a good tidy up. Totally accept the need for recycling bins but should be better organised and tidier rather than placed on rotting tables. Discarded mop and axe not attractive by the stack of logs which seems pointless as the fire is not usable.

Negative: Shower was difficult to regulate but OK when you got the hang of it. Cups were a little stained.

Positive: Very comfortable stay, everything you need and more. Beautiful bathroom, comfortable bed, and cosy, comfortable lounge area. Great kitchen and Charlie (host) communication was excellent!!!

The cottage is a really cute little place. You have to go in through the rear entrance which is quite narrow. The kitchen and sitting room are very homely with lots of tea and coffee. The stairs to the bedroom are very steep but to be fair the cottage description did say that. The village is very nice with a good shop and a couple of pubs. We really enjoyed our stay.

Enormous potential - needs improving further with regard to the external spaces and bin management. Positive: It's a beautiful village in a fabulous area. I liked the cottage interior apart from the niggles listed below. The crockery was quite nice. Loved the Rosella mugs! Negative: How long have you got? The initial entry sequence around the back was most unimpressive - walking past services, wheelie bins, other open bins and so much old junk that should have been skipped years ago. There was no bread knife supplied and no man sized towels either. The main living room light wasn't working. The internal step is a tripping hazard. The attractive external sitting area shown on Booking.com for this property didn't actually exist, so the cottage exterior was actually misrepresented. That's unacceptable. The lack of an external sitting area and the mass of wheelie bins was a massive disappointment. That desperately needs to be re-organised by the introduction of a bin store that needs to cover up the unsightly external services too. The stairs are extremely steep and don't comply with modern building reg's. I expect you'll tell me that these are the original stairs, so that would explain that. The grille pan was left in a disgusting state by the previous tenants but your cleaners couldn't be bothered to wash it. I cleaned it for you. There were no instructions for the oven or hob but I figured it out. The TV's are installed far too high in the living room and bedroom - I will probably have to get my neck worked out by a chiropractor due to having to tilt my head up so high to view them. What on earth were you thinking? This is a cottage not a pub bar or an airport departure lounge!

Highly recommended Positive: Extremely well equipped. Location excellent. The cottage has had massive improvements from the pictures you use to advertise, I would suggest you update the picture as doesn't do it justice. Bed room and the bathroom very spacious and comfortable. Would recommend. Negative: Stairs were steep but knew this from reading other reviws. Lots of logs stacked near the back door with no burner , maybe remove or re install log burner. Back door full glass panel which does let a lot of light in but could do with a curtain or blind for an evening. None of the above impaired on our stayand would definitely book again!

Rosella cottage. Positive: A great little cottage in a nice little village with a pub and village store. It had everything that you need for a great stay. Negative: The location of the key box should of been a bit clearer. Searching the front of the property and asking neighbours then found it was at the rear. Reading the comments lots of people had the same problem.

Positive: Lovely cosy cottage! Bedroom was so nice and the bed was so comfy! Little cafe across the road and a pub a 3 minute walk away. Had a really lovely weekend here!

Fabulous Break

Nice location. Positive: Upstairs was bright and airy, Good shower. Nice quiet location, Plenty of parking. Close to amenities. Negative: When entering the cottage it had a horrible smell about it (Downstairs), Like a mix of dog and cooking residues. Microwave dirty, Build up of dirt/dust on kitchen floor some, surfaces and ledges. Outside area separate to cottage along a pathway through a gate and once realised,only used once as it was slightly overgrown and not really appealing. Cupboard liners for crockery were old, stained and grotty. Generally messy and cluttered downstairs. We checked out 2 days early in the end as it wasn't for us and as the weather got warmer we didn't want to sit indoors in a non ventilated living room! Note. I know it says dog friendly, we don't have dogs but are dog lovers, We have stayed in 2 other dog friendly cottages in the last 12 months that were very well kept to the point you wouldn't know if one had been there or not prior to your stay.

Cottage itself is lovely, situated in a very lovely part of North Yorkshire. However, our stay was disrupted by having to deal with the cleanliness issues we encountered upon arrival, mainly within the kitchen; it simply had not been cleaned at all from previous occupiers. Looking at a few reviews elsewhere on the internet for this property, it unfortunately does not appear to be a ‘one-off’. We raised these immediately with ‘Host & Stay’ but after a day or so, it was informed to us that the issue was not able to be resolved during our stay, prompting further action from our side. While we did get our ‘cleaning fee’ back (as a result of escalating to Airbnb, hot Host & Stay refused to refund anything). It doesn’t really compensate not being able to use the cottage as a self-catering facility and the amount of time spent between Host & Stay and Airbnb trying to get the issue resolved, which did spoil our time away somewhat. While the 20% discount on future stays with ‘Host & Stay’ was appreciated, it doesn’t unfortunately tempt us based on this experience. Overall, lovely property in a picturesque location but just a shame on the experience we had. Hopefully others will differ and be much better.

Peaceful and relaxing few days away at Rosella with great pubs & tea rooms close by. Positive: Beautiful location, easy to find, with good parking, great local amenities. Rosella Cottage was cosy and welcoming and well equipped. In this day and age, there was an excellent, all important great Wifi signal, absolutely no mobile signal (this can be considered a bonus!). Negative: An overhaul of the kitchen equipment would be a bonus - with the addition of some sharp knives, and a bit of maintenance on the cooker. Would also have been handy to have a couple of rugs/blankets in the living room.

Positive: Great location. All facilities needed. Negative: It might be helpful to indicate that the property is outside of areas of mobile coverage.

Rosella Cottage is a little gem of a place. It's cosy yet spacious, with everything you'd need for a great few days exploring the North York moors. We'd highly recommend xx

Rosella cottage is very well located in a beautiful village. Don't be confused by the listing - it is in the village of Rosedale Abbey not in Pickering. I spent 4 nights there in July. The surrounding moorland up above the valley is just fabulous. I spent many happy hours cycling and walking over the moors and through local villages. The half hour drive to the coast around Sandsend/Whitby/Robins Hood Bay is in itself very scenic. Rosella Cottage has absolutely everything you might need. The lounge is cosy and comfortable and the kitchen small but very well equipped. Upstairs the bedroom feels very roomy and luxurious having a surprisingly high ceiling and a lovely large en-suite shower room. I would definitely recommend and hope to return sometime soon. Although access is via a coded key safe, a neighbour who looks after the cottage is charming and helpful.

Rosella is perfectly situated in the middle of Rosedale and has all the amenities you could need. Check in and out was straightforward, and there was a lovely guide to everything we needed to know about the cottage.
