The area

Matlock occupies a beautiful position in a stunning limestone valley and offers a wealth of attractions for the whole family.

Once famed for its hydro and spa treatments, Matlock's central location, scenic surroundings and public transport links make it a popular base for exploring the Peak District and Derbyshire.

Pioneering industrialist John Smedley developed the attractive market town as a fashionable spa in the 19th century, and his legacy lives on in buildings such as Smedley's Hydro and Gothic-style Riber Castle.

There are plenty of things to do in Matlock. In the heart of Matlock sits Hall Leys Park with its boating lake, riverside walks, tennis courts and skateboard park.

In Matlock town centre, there are pretty streets full of small, independent shops, and a host of cafés, pubs and restaurants in which to relax.

Matlock has excellent rail links to locations all across the East Midlands with direct routes to Belper, Derby and Nottingham.

A number of bus routes can be found operating in Matlock. Direct routes can be found running to Alfreton, Ashbourne, Barnsley, Chesterfield, Derby, Sheffield and Wirksworth. A bus stop is available close to Rock End which offers a direct service into Matlock town centre.

The nearest airport is East Midlands, 34 miles away from Matlock.

“We had a lovely stay here. The house was spotlessly clean, spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It's a beautiful property and furnished to a very high standard. The parking space at the back is (as described) a little tricky to get into but perfectly manageable.”

“We had a fab stay in Matlock. The house is really lovely and had everything we needed. It’s very spacious and well decorated. The beds and sofas were really comfy and the house felt cosy. We walked from the house to Matlock Bath, Ladygrove woods and Lumsdale waterfall - all easy to get to, and lovely walks, but obviously a pretty big hill to make it back up! We did get the bus up one day which cost £2.80. The parking at the back is a little tight, especially to turn around, but we managed it (in a Skoda Elroq) and didn’t really use the car during our stay. We appreciated the touches for our dog such as outdoor taps, mats, bowls and the gate that closes in the back to shut off access to the outdoor stairs. Overall, lovely stay, would definitely come back and recommend to others.”
