Great location and easily accessible, some noise from the upstairs flat that woke us each morning and main front door always unlocked (separate lock for flat itself). Cosy and clean, great local area, nice decor and loved being able to take the dog with us.

Positive: Had everything we needed and landed on a hidden gem for location. 3miles of beach at the end of the road for our pup to run about! Definitely recommend walking 2miles along the beach to Saltburn, for bars and cafes, but Marske itself has a spot on selection!
At least one of the rooms looked like it hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived. The listing also said it was a private garden, perfect for our dog and 3 year old. During our stay, people from the flat above were in the garden. The decor and the flat itself is beautiful, we were just disappointed with these aspects.
La description faite du logement est fausse. Positive: Le logement est très bien situé tout prêt de la plage. Il est propre. C'est assez simple de se garer dans la rue. La chambre 1 est très spacieuse. Le village est agréable et les gens très accueillant. Negative: Il est stipulé qu'il s'agit d'une maison alors que c'est un appartement en rez-de-chaussée, le "jardin" n'existe pas , c'est une courette pour sortir dans la rue partagée avec l'appartement du dessus donc impossible de laisser sortir notre chien. La chambre 2 est minuscule, le lit inconfortable et on se cogne sur le cadre en bois chaque fois qu'on essaie d'en faire le tour car il est à 40cm des murs de tous les côtés. La taille du logement convient bien à deux personnes mais certainement pas à une famille et encore moins avec un chien.
The apartment was as previewed in the photographs and I have no major complaints! It was a lovely location, on a private street with parking and short distance to the beach. The rooms were lovely and adequate for a small group or family. My points would be that the experience did not feel very personal as it is run by a company. They barely provided any supplies that I thought would be expected in a self catering Airbnb (such as salt and pepper, kitchen spray and sponge). There are plenty Airbnb's which provide this, and it is a basic commodity in the kitchen, therefore I was a bit disappointed when I was told they don't supply these. The walls were thin, so I could hear the neighbors upstairs which made me feel quite exposed, and the home fairly non-private. I also did not feel it was super clean. The couch was dusty, with dog hair still present, and there were still father's day cards in the living room from the previous guest the weekend before...IT was Ok, there are better Airbnbs.

We enjoyed our week at the retreat by the sea. Its a beautiful property 2 minutes walk from the lovely marske beach. We ate and drank at lots of local businesss. From fresh seafood at the seaview restaurant in Saltburn to delicious pizzas at the local italian in Marske (Base). The only slight downside is that being on the groundfloor, you do hear noise from the neighbours upstairs. But overall, the house really is lovely with beautiful furnishings.
We have just returned from bank holiday weekend at retreat by the sea and loved every minute. The apartment is beautifully finished and spotlessly clean. There is everything you could possibly need and it’s so light and spacious, we visited with our two small children one aged 4 years and 7. months and we had so much room. Our 4 year old didn’t want to leave the holiday house and in honesty neither did we. The location is perfect right by the beech and a short walk to the village centre. We had no problem parking when we arrived. We would not hesitate to book again. Thank you so much
In a lovely position near a very beautiful beach. The flat is tastefully decorated with a cosy lounge and clean. The accomodation has a constant change in levels and rugs that are quite slippy not good for anyone who is unsteady. There are basic things missing, no wardrobes but shelves in the large bedroom, the small bedroom has 2 small draws and a rail on the ceiling to high to be of any use …. no shelves, draws or wardrobe, the bed is uncomfortable. The dining space is small especially for 4 people. No grab rail in the shower Towels provided are small and thin, bring your own.
We’ve stayed here before and would return again for the great proximity to a lovely beach, and also some nice pubs and restaurants. Being pet friendly is a real bonus.
Fantastic location, within easy reach of the beach, Valley Gardens and local amenities. The accommodation was exactly as pictured, tastefully decorated and very welcoming. Our only niggle was the lack of practical storage space. There was no cupboard space available for groceries or dog food (we were travelling with a large dog), no hooks in the bathroom for hanging towels, and nowhere to hang coats or dog leads. As we had a few rainy days during our stay, somewhere to hang wet jackets and dog-walking gear would have been particularly useful. These are relatively small things, but a few additional hooks and some accessible storage would make a real difference. Of course, these might be less of an issue for guests visiting during the summer or travelling without dogs. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and the location really is excellent!

Negative: Didn’t read the reviews prior so was unaware it was an apartment rather than a house with a shared courtyard. I wouldn’t have a chosen this property had I known - just our preference. Also we had a few issues with the boiler, were left 1 toilet roll & no complimentary toiletries.
Nice flat in a good quiet location we enjoyed staying. Positive: I liked the furniture and fittings. The flat was clean and comfortable. It was good value. Thoughtfully presented and short stroll to the beach. Nice location. Negative: Small details but quite inconvenient. No hand towel or hand soap in kitchen. One toilet roll , one tiny bar of soap, one small body wash sachet. Not enough for four people over four days. A bit mean.
Our stay at the Retreat was lovely. The accommodation was perfect, clean, well-equipped, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The bedrooms were a good size and it was great to have the small outdoor area for the dog. The location is amazing, it's a quiet road yet only a few minutes walk through a lovely little park to the beach, and a few minutes the other way to the shops. We would definitely stay there again.
Positive: The location and the Retreat was excellent. The bedrooms were adequate for the short stay. Negative: The combination boiler proved faulty. It gave very hot water and overnight it didn't heat up on demand. I contacted the maintenance manager and a temporary solution was achieved (I refilled the water system). All's well that ends well.
Lovely place, perfect for a couple. Positive: Comfortable place and plenty of facilities. lovely place to stay for a few days. would be great for a winter visit with out the dog. Negative: Main bed a bit soft but that's a personal choice. Shared garden which was not highlighted or obvious when staying especially with a dog and not wanting to encroach into the other persons garden area. no openable windows in the main bedroom at night (patio doors only) meant it was very warm, but again that's due to the heat at the time.
This is the second staying at this property. So close to beach, and to the centre of marske. We shall be back

Definately will be back. Positive: Beautiful, property,great position, beach down the road, bus stop around the corner nice pub round the corner. Negative: Unfortunately the boiler kept de pressurising whilst we were there so hot water issues. But managed to to pressurise the boiler with guidance. Staff at host and stay were very helpful. ( boiler needed specialist but bank holiday. ( these things happen)
Lovely and comfortable Positive: Close to the beach and town, everything was in walking distance. Parking outside. Negative: Problem with no hot water. I had to call host and stay. The hot water would only come on if you released the pressure lever in the boiler. But you had to do this every morning! That doesn’t seem quite right so perhaps the boiler should get checked .
Positive: We absolutely loved our 3-night stay at Retreat By The Sea! The location is fantastic—peaceful yet incredibly close to both the beautiful beach and the town centre. The property itself has a lot going for it; it is spacious, features tasteful decor, and boasts a very comfy bed alongside a great shower. A massive plus for us was the lovely little courtyard garden, which was absolutely perfect for our dog. The space itself and the stellar location completely won us over, and we would definitely recommend it for a coastal break. Negative: While we had a wonderful time, there were a few minor maintenance issues and missing comforts. A major annoyance was the sofa; the feather cushions were constantly leaking, shedding feathers all over the lounge, and were so spiky they kept poking us. The bedroom pillows were also quite flat. For a 3-night stay, being left with only one toilet roll (and no holder), two dishwasher tablets, no kitchen roll, and no oven glove felt a bit stingy. Additionally, the bathroom window has poor frosting and no blinds (meaning neighbours could potentially see in), there are no hooks to hang anything, the crockery felt tired (with only one prosecco glass), the TVs are very small, and the boiler kept losing pressure. You can also hear people moving about upstairs, including some loud music one afternoon. Most of these are very quick fixes for the owners to make it perfect!

Great property Positive: Very clean and comfortable.. Close to the beach. Everything you need apart from a few fire lighters and a couple of logs would have been great. Bedrooms a good size. Decoration and cleanliness were exceptional. Negative: There was some noise from the upstairs flat, opening and closing the shared front door etc. But didn't spoil anything. Also it is not 'you get the whole house ' as stated in the hype but a downstairs flat. Had to clean the glass on the log burner.

Positive: Whilst the location was ideal, and the finish of the property was lovely, there were a number of issues. It was a real plus to be offered discounted stays on the days either side of the booking too. Negative: There was no hot water or heating on our final day, meaning we could not shower (or warm up) after going for a run, so had to drive the 5 hours home feeling uncomfortable. The guy upstairs was very heavy underfoot, would stomp quite loudly coming up and down the stairs and dropped what I imagine was his phone onto the floor numerous times at night. He would also leave the front door to the properly unlocked, leaving the wind to blow it open. On two occasions I had to go and lock it in the middle of the night (once at 2am as the door was banging and a cold draft was coming under the door). Parking was tricky on a couple of occasions too. Shame we also had to bring our own logs if we wanted to use the fire.
Unfortunately it was clear when we checked in that the Airbnb hadn’t been cleaned. It had a really strong smell and loads of dog hair everywhere from I’m guessing the previous guests. They were also late sending us the details to get into the apartment and wouldn’t let us check in early due to apparent “advanced cleaning services”. We ended up having to cancel for a full refund and find somewhere else nearby as the smell was making us feel a bit sick and they couldn’t get someone out to clean properly until the following day. Also very difficult to get in contact with the company running this property.
The property itself is very nice but poorly managed. - Customer service was unhelpful, and ad somewhat misleading. - Boiler failed due to pressure issue; I fixed it myself late at night, but the host ignored my message afterwards. - Missing oven gloves made oven unsafe, also missing bathroom hand towel; requests were refused. One bath towel small, one had a hole. - Water discolouration issues were dismissed by the host, they made it our problem. - Constantly tried to sell us "early check-in". Normal check-in is 4pm, so they're basically selling a normal check-in time as a £40 add-on. - Only one sofa, ad showed two, log burner faulty, some dirty plates and cutlery, cracked wine glass, missing coffee machine, oil, salt and pepper. - “Private” garden is shared. - Found someone else's sock, razor and a bag under beds. - One French door couldn't be opened. - Bedside table missing a leg! - Threat of fines for late check outs and damage, but no real support during our stay.

Excellent, comfortable property. Positive: The location was perfect, on a quiet road, 2 minutes walk to the beach and 5 minutes to the centre of the village. We had been worried that we may struggle to find a parking place but there was always lots of room. The place was spotless and the kitchen was very well equipped. The bed was comfortable and we slept well whilst we were there. If we’re back in Marske we will certainly use this property again. Negative: We would have liked some coat hooks.
The house is nice and the beach is great. We were allowed in late as the cleaner had just arrived, a little disappointed that we weren't given a later check out to make up for it.
Amazing Accommodation Positive: This was the most amazing accommodation. We just didn't want to leave. It is set in the best ever location, with a very short stroll down to the sandy beach, and whether you want to go to Redcar or Saltburn, it is such a fabulous walk along the beach, given that it is central to both. The place was so cosy with everything you needed, and the little garden at the back was so pretty. The beds were comfortable, and the place was lovely and clean. The local shops were lovely to look around, and the train station was a short stroll up the high street. One to book again in the future.

A perfect stay by the sea. The apartment is modern and cosy. The beach is just a stone’s throw and we loved spending time on there morning and night. You can walk for miles along the sand. Highly recommend.
I was dubious booking this place as i had read some negatives.. but, we had a great time. It was clean and comfortable..everything there that we needed.
This place really was the ideal location for us - so close to the beach with the centre of Marske not far away too. Top tip: additional free car parking available at the nearby Windy Hill Car Park - ideal if you need EV charging too!
Positive: The Flat was nice on arrival, the lounge lovely, and the location great for a beach walk to lovely Saltburn Negative: A £25 none refundable damage payment. The kitchen already had a broken cupboard. There were only 3 wine glasses and broken prosecco glass pushed to the back of the cupboard.The rest of the glasses were dirty There were very limited utensils in the kitchen and no oven gloves.there was nothing there to be able to wipe down surfaces no hand wash in the bathroom, and the bath had a hole in it not even a bin bag in the kitchen bin. The pots and pans were not the cleanest, and the under sink cupboard was also lacking a good clean. Lots of cobwebs and dust and the plastic plant near the rear bedroom had not seen a duster in .months. The rear bedroom was also very very small and the bed was very uncomfortable and didn't feel of good quality Overall disappointed with the lack of care and cleanliness and attention could have been so much better with a few more welcoming touches like a dishwasher tablet to start you off a dish cloth and some surface spray some hand-wash in the bathroom more than 1 toilet roll between 4 people. We have emailed the property but we have had no reply.
Not coming back Positive: The location near the beach. The Ship pub around the corner. Negative: There's a ventilation problem in the bedrooms as before I went to bed I opened the bedsheets and they were all wet. There's no actual proper ventilation in the rooms which is probably the reason. The mattresses are probably covered in waterproof materials so we woke up in a puddle in the other bed too. Then the other bedroom you should hang some decent curtains as they're see through and offer no privacy. Also, last night we cooked a meal but the saucepan I left on the side is leaking water and another in cupboard is absolutely disgusting with food burned in the bottom. There should be a plunger so we could actually go to the toilet. Overall we feel you've overpriced this stay. Especially the lack of ventilation is very uncomfortable as we couldn't sleep in the soaked bed.
Charlie was really proactive and very helpful, providing clear instructions and information. The apartment is in a great location, just a short walk to the beach. Clean & comfortable. There are a few minor wear & tear things that need addressing like the chip in the bath and floors but nothing that stopped us enjoying our stay. A slightly later check out would be great, especially on a Sunday but again this didn’t effect our stay as we already had plans to leave early. We really enjoyed our stay and will no doubt return. Extremely Dissatisfied The property has not been maintained to a reasonable standard and the cleaning schedule is inadequate. We completed a ‘first impressions’ feedback but I don’t think it has been looked at. We have not had a reply. We can provide full details of all the issues with this property along with photos. We are in the process of sending a formal complaint.

Amazing location, 5 mins from the beech, no problems parking, very easy to find and access the property. I did not realise that the property was a ground floor apartment (perhaps I just didn't look closely enough), it wasn't too much of a problem but there was some noise from the upstairs flat (assuming they have laminate floor up there instead of carpets!) , wasn't excessive or anything, just unexpected. The area was very peaceful and quiet overall. The property itself was very nicely laid out and clean and tidy. If I was being picky I would say the flooring throughout needs replacing and the bath needs resealing and mending but these are very minor issues and is more an aesthetic issue than functional. Overall we enjoyed our stay. 😀
A lovely place, great location with the beach a few minutes walk plenty of space to relax, shops a few minutes walk we parked the car and went everywhere on foot including the perfect walk to the next town. The downside is the place is a little rough around the edges and could do with a spruce, although very calm and relaxing. There were no bin bags provided, no kitchen cloth to wipe the sides or kitchen spray to clean the sides and no hand soap. All of the above making it difficult to clean up after yourself if you had wanted to cook (we didn’t). Also the early 10 am check out on a weekend made us feel rushed (check out in most places is 11). I would recommend this place and would probably stay again if I was in the area.
Really disappointed Negative: We booked through Booking.com and they marketed this as a 2-bed house. This is not a house, but a ground floor apartment. We could hear the people above very easily, once being awoken by them shouting. The property was not very clean and it is generally tired and grubby. There is still a crack in the bath that I saw someone on a previous review mention.
We felt that to be asked for yet more money in case we broke something was a bit of a con. £300 with £10 not refunded or £30 non refundable. The place is already on the expensive side as it is. There could definitely be a superking in the main bedroom and the second bedroom is a very small double. Which could benefit from curtains as it’s very very light. The tv in the living room is really small, could do with an update. There is a crack in the bath which I reported, I cut myself on it. Great position for the beach and nice and quiet.

Host & Stay insist on a damage waiver policy which is easy to overlook. As a long term user of Air BnB I have never come across this before and it took me unawares. The accommodation itself was perfect. We came across a minor issue with the flat (the CO alarm was out of battery). I found having to communicate via Host and Stay frustrating compared to talking to the owner directly.

Comfortable and stylish flat. My impression of this property was that thought had been put into the furnishings and decor. The bed linen and towels were lovely and clean. The modern kitchen was fully equipped but not a drop of cleaning fluid was provided which was, I think, an oversight.

Little gem A pretty little gem. The place is immaculate. Lovely modern decor, super clean linen, clean bathroom. Nice space to be in. Little garden- not big enough for children but I don’t have any. Does have a cute table and chair to sit out if the weather is nice. The town is well equipped with some takeaways, shops, restaurants etc. The beach is gorgeous and a stone throw from the house/studio. Lovely little community garden in front of the property. The downside is the on road parking. Due to it being so close to the beach others park their in the day but it didn’t detract from a well priced, well positioned stay on the N/E coast. Pretty and a lovely walk to Saltburn along the beach only a few miles.
