Really enjoyed our stay. Accomadation in great condition. We would absolutely return Positive: The property is in a very central position. Very clean. Perfect for a stay in Whitby and surrounding areas. Fully equipped, loved the dog shower. Negative: There’s nothing we didn’t like. As most accomadation in Whitby comes without parking by there is parking close by.

Negative: Cleaning of the cottage was ok, more attention needed on hoovering, cleaning of the floors, dusting and sofa needs a deep clean.
We had a great stay at Penny Farthing cottage. Location is fantastic with pubs and restaurants in walkable distance. The cottage is lovely with everything you need - the little touches such as body wash / shampoo was a great touch plus the dog shower outside was very useful after a run around for the dogs on the beach! Would stay again.

Beautiful interior. Was easy to find and close to all the amenities we needed for our stay. Would definitely stay again and great to know there is a shower in the courtyard for the dogs if we were to bring them next time. The kitchen had everything we needed and there were clear instructions for the bins too. Beautiful place, would definitely recommend.
Our stay at Penny Farthing Cottage was brilliant! Location was fab only a short walk to the beach, pubs and restaurants. The cottage was sparkly clean absolutely spotless! The dog shower in the back yard was a nice touch for muddy paws! The hosts looked after us and we only had to ask if we needed anything We would definitely stay here again
Great location in Whitby, right next to a lovely street of shops and bars. No more than a 5 minute walk from all key areas and therefore the best part of this stay. The home is a really nice space, plenty of space for us with a baby and our dog. The only suggestion for improvement would be the cleanliness of the place which had significant dog hair on the sofa, a plaster underneath the bath and fairly dusty in places. It didnt worry us too much but I know others that wouldn't have been so keen! Overall I would recommend staying here - its very convenient and the long stay car park is close enough also!

We stayed here for a few days while attending a wedding and really enjoyed our time. The house was just like the photos — clean, tidy, and well equipped with everything we needed. The living room was cosy, the kitchen spotless (the dishwasher was a big plus!), and the bedrooms were comfortable and nicely presented. The only small thing to mention is that there wasn’t an anti-slip mat in the ensuite shower, so we just had to be a little careful. The location is excellent, with lots of shops and restaurants nearby, and the beach is only about a 10-minute walk. Just note that there’s no parking at the property, but there’s a car park about five minutes away. The house is down a narrow cobbled street, so we dropped our bags off first and then parked — which worked fine. Overall, the accommodation was perfect for our stay — clean, comfortable, and well thought-out. We’d happily stay here again.
Worst break ever Positive: Sadly what would have been a beautiful property was completely destroyed by such a disappointing dreadful stay. Negative: I was extremely disappointed upon arriving at the property for a 4 PM check-in to discover it had not been cleaned that day, nor had it been maintained properly in a long time. Every room was beyond filthy. Despite numerous calls and emails (under poor WiFi conditions), it was too late on Saturday after 5 PM to have the cleaners return. We brought my partner's elderly parents, both in their late 70s, and it completely spoiled their holiday. We spent hours cleaning until 10:45 PM that night and continued again the next morning. We’re talking food and drinks stains on surfaces, filth from previous showers all over the shower glass doors. Floors not vacuumed or wood floor not cleaned. Horrible filthy sofa, blood stained bed sheets. Dust on bedside tables so thick that’s not from one weekend and the list goes on. We waited until 12:30 PM as promised, expecting to hear from the host and stay team or the property manager about the cleaners. Frustrated by the lack of communication, I emailed to express my annoyance and noted that sending anyone now was pointless since we had already cleaned the property. This is not what you expect when on holiday. I can’t convey how furious I am. It took a lot of self-control not to lose my temper with the agent trying to assist us. The level of uncleanliness was unlike anything I’ve ever encountered in a holiday home. We also attempted to find alternative accommodation, but the area was fully booked for both Saturday and Sunday, making it impractical to move the in-laws twice. If you’re going to advertise a holiday let with inviting pictures the learn to clean and maintain a property as this has been a nightmare and false misrepresentation.
Lovely characterful cottage in the heart of Whitby Positive: It was a lovely cottage, very clean, with everything we needed. It was within walking distance of the main street in Whitby, and also in a very nice area 'behind the scenes' which appeared to have some lovely bistro restaurants. I can highly recommend this cottage and would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for a week over Christmas and it was lovely. The cottage is within very short walking distance of Whitby town centre and minute's from the beach and it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The beds and furniture were lovely and comfortable and the cottage was spotless. We would highly recommend and will return here.

A lovely property, small touches let it down. Positive: Nicely renovated property. Comfy bed. Negative: Dishwasher needed unloading on arrival - we had never experienced this before, especially when cleaning fees are paid. Some tears in the bedding. Heating had disconnected but managed with blankets. Plenty of coffee provided but only 2 tea bags. Some areas like bedside lamps very dusty. Broken toilet brush in downstairs loo. Back door was closed but unlocked on arrival. A shame as the property itself is really nice. Bed was comfortable. Enclosed yard a with dog shower is a nice extra. Handy to have a washing machine if needed. Log burner looks nice although no wood provided.
Wonderful place to stay. The house was perfect and the location couldn’t have been better. If we come to Whitby again, I will certainly rebook here.

Perfect base close to the town centre but far enough from the hustle and bustle to be able to relax after a long day exploring the area. Beautiful coastline, lots of things to see and experience. Dog friendly too!

Lovely place to stay. Located close to the centre of Whitby and easy to find.
It was a lovely decorated cottage, small but nicely done. Location was handy - very central. No views but we knew that and no parking which we also knew and there was a car park very handy to us which still had spaces on a bank holiday weekend so no problems there. The one thing that marred it for us a little was the cleanliness of the cottage - it wasn't terrible but it wasn't perfect either. Things like: previous guests dried toothpaste spit on the splashback in the en-suite, marks on the mirror in the bedroom, dusty bedside tables, lamps and headboard, inside fridge door wasn't clean, brown water in the mugs in the cupboards and crockery generally wet, dirty oven gloves with crumbs inside and the blanket in the living room had a patch of - I don't know what - on it. If the cleanliness bar could be raised a little, it is a great cottage.
The pictures of the place already looked lovely but in person it’s even nicer ! The place is as so beautifully put together and felt Homey and clean. Had a wonderful stay and would defiantly stay again.

Host and Stay were good at giving clear instructions on how to find the property it was in great location which meant we could go everywhere by foot. We had very easy check in. Me and my friends were able to relax and have fun weekend away in Whitby. The house was fairly clean bedrooms were very tidy and welcoming. The only criticism we had was there was water in the sink in the kitchen when we got there and food in it. Overall though I thought it was good value for money.

Although I unfortunately couldn't travel due to a last-minute change of plans, my husband and daughter stayed here and had a wonderful time. The property was in a great location, particularly for our daughter, who was competing in a coastal rowing competition. Being so close to the beach made the weekend much easier and more enjoyable. The owners were exceptionally communicative throughout, keeping us informed before arrival. Their helpfulness was especially appreciated given the late change to our plans. My husband and daughter found the accommodation comfortable, clean and well-equipped, and they thoroughly enjoyed their time in Whitby. Based on their experience, we would happily recommend this Airbnb to anyone visiting the area, whether for a seaside break or a sporting event. Thank you for helping make their stay such a positive one.
It is possible to get to the property to unload if you follow the link host and stay send with the key code 6 hours before AND you are confident with extreemly tight turns and very narrow lane. Just did it in our volvo X40, wouldn't want anything bigger. Otherwise, park outside Botham the bakers in Skinner Street and walk it. It's only 3 mins. Disc parking ( get a disc from one of the shops). After an initial slight cleaning hiccup, lovely property, nicely decorated and clean, excellent position, well equipped except why oh why not provide a t- towel to dry up. Be aware, 2nd bedroom is absolutely fine, but up a steep narrow stair way if you have any mobility issues. Excellent micro bar at the bottom of Skinner Street, Excellent mussels at the Fishermans Wife.
A great two day break in a lovely cottage. Location was handy for car parking and Whitby centre. Accommodation was comfortable, clean and good value for money.
We had a great stay. Very quiet but well positioned in a lovely area of Whitby with lots of shops and restaurants within a few minutes walking distance. We would’ve liked some basic supplies though, oil, salt, pepper, coffee pods, fresh milk etc but there were bathroom supplies. Very pet friendly. Would stay again.

Nice place but needs serious cleaning and dusting. Positive: Location was good the interior decor is nice Negative: The whole property was not clean I had to clean it myself Everything wasn't cleaned properly except the bathroom were just fine. The sheets were not clean. The rest of the rooms and seating area were dusty with left overs like a bag of crisps in the second-floor bedroom inside the side table drawer.
Positive: This was a lovely cottage. we really loved the modern and light beautiful decor and the good central location. Negative: Just the carpet in the living room smelt a bit like a dog had stayed .but other than that, everything was perfect

We stayed for a week at Penny Farthing cottage and we really enjoyed our stay. Walkable to Whitby centre, and good sized rooms, well presented and decorated. Only thing we would suggest is that if you're staying for a week and plan to cook - there are not many utensils/cooking equipment. No oven trays, bread knives etc. Having stayed at other Airbnbs, ones with kitchens usually have these plus basics such as oil, salt, pepper and usually have a welcome basket on arrival. This would be a nice personal touch. Some areas quite dusty but overall clean and tidy. Host & Stay very responsive and we did stay another night as we were really enjoying our time. We would stay again in future.

Penny Farthing cottage was a perfect choice for our stay in Whitby. It is just lovely and is in a fabulous location for getting around town, with plenty of shops, restaurants and bakeries practically on the doorstep. The cottage itself was very clean, cosy and comfortable and the hosts are communicative and very responsive. Overall we had a wonderful short getaway at the cottage.

Great place to stay in Whitby. Lots to do in the area with great walking and transport links. The house was clean, very well presented and lovely and warm. It was very windy and below zero temperatures outside while we visited but the house was warm and cosy. We were able to find free parking due to the time of year and managed to drive to the house to drop off and pick up our luggage. Yes the road is very narrow and you have to know your car but our estate managed it.

Absolutely loved our stay in Whitby. The house is stunning and was spotless on arrival. The location is perfect. The hosts were incredibly responsive and helpful throughout, which made the stay even better. We couldn’t have asked for more and would 100% stay here again. Highly recommend!
Would recommend , very nice home but very basic in terms of facilities, could do with a warning to stop at the shop firs Positive: Very clean , nicely decorated and furnished, comfy beds and clean and tidy rooms & bathrooms Negative: Basic Facilities lacked , no kitchen roll, no tea towels, no coffee pods even there they had a coffee pod machine , no foil. Comparing to other places similar i’ve visited they have usually always stocked these items especially due to it being self catering , this would have added an extra point for me. There were also some dirty marks in the kitchen which I easily wiped up , didn’t think the floor had been mopped or cleaned properly in that area. A dirty glass was also left in the top bedroom. Those issues plus also from previous places i’ve visited sometimes they leave a welcome gift like pack of biscuits, coffee pods, bottle of something etc. This is the reason why I have rated 8/10.

Overall happy with our stay, there were a few large cobwebs on the wall, one in the en suite and the grout in the shower in the en suite could do with a good clean. It’s a great location close to shops and restaurants, very nicely decorated with most things you’d need. No pods for the coffee machine and no instant coffee either which is a little stingy. I’d recommend the cottage to family and friends.

Very high spec , very clean and tidy . Every thing you could want for . Just one thing on the negative, there were only 3 tea bags and three individual milk sachets ! For a 4 person accommodation.

Only suggestions would be - be a little clearer on the parking options. There is a long stay car park at west cliff - parking permits were mentioned and when I asked I was just referred to the digital house guide ( which didn’t cover parking permits). And 2 coffee pods for a booking of 4 - first world problem - but seems a bit stingy!
Penny Farthing Cottage is a wonderful vacation rental. The space is beautifully laid out with all amenities needed for a great stay. It is extremely walkable to many pubs, coffee shops and restaurants. Would definitely recommend to future guests
We loved our short stay in Whitby. The only issue we had was with parking. The instructions were a bit vague and road suggested is for only 24 hours. There is a sign at the beginning of the road which isn’t visible when driving as it is above the car, which resulted in us getting a ticket. We parked at the West Cliff carpark which us a short walk away.

Positive: Excellent location - easy process, lovely house . Better than looks in photos! Everything you need , we wanted to live there ! Negative: Customer service via the host company were lacking when we had a problem ( not with house ). Parking not that easy but we were awre from description.
One of the finest rentals I have ever enjoyed. Positive: Great refurbished period property . Beautifully decorated.lively kitchen . Negative: Just a warning that stairs to second room are steep as it’s a loft conversion.
Positive: Absolutely perfect! The modern decor created a stylish and comfortable atmosphere and the place itself was fantastic. The host was wonderful and provided a super helpful link with all the information I needed. Highly recommended! Negative: One area for improvement would be the sofa, which was unfortunately quite dirty and covered in stains. It didn’t feel inviting to sit and relax, so refreshing or replacing it would really enhance the comfort of the accommodation

Great location in walking distance of beach and shops etc. Very clean and comfortable for 4 people. Not much equipment for cooking and a few coffee pods, tea bags and long life milk. Also note that the check in is not until 4pm and check out is 10am. It’s through a company so several very long automated messages received before and during stay.
Great place, near everything- shops, beach, restaurants etc. the house was beautiful and spotless! Only downside was to park and unload due to an extremely narrow road, But would definitely stay again. Thank you for a great stay.

We had a great stay. A beautiful spacious property and in a great location close by to shops, restaurants and pubs. Check in was easy with a key lock box. The google streetview for the address shows the next street over but the actual street and house is much nicer than what appears on maps!

Beautiful cottage, centrally located but up a quiet side street. Very tight for car unloading, parking on West Cliff free at this time of year. There were a few tea bags,coffee sachets and milk portions to welcome us. Basics such as hand soap and a small shower gel sachet provided.

Had a Fab few days Positive: Great location Negative: Only comment would be that the Guest Book in property needs updating on 2 points:- 1. Hearting instructions, there was a Hive Booklet, which we tried to follow with box in Hallway, which didn’t do anything!! Eventually referred to e-mail I received which directed us directly to heating switch, that WAS actually in the kitchen 2. Guest book also indicated a Parking Permit was provided, after also hunting around in kitchen for this as directed, again email differed by indicating parking permit wasn’t provided. Ended up having to contact Host&Stay for clarification
This is our second time using Host & Stay. Both times, our accommodation has been of a high standard. The team are friendly and the communication is great. We will be using Host and Stay again and would highly recommend.
