Sleeping up to six guests, Oliver's Den is a beautiful Victorian, dog friendly stone house located in the popular historic town of Alnwick. Perfectly situated, the holiday home is close to the town centre, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, along with the famous Barter Books shop so you’ll be ideally placed to explore.

About this property

Beautifully renovated to the highest standard, Oliver’s Den has stunning interiors throughout, giving the property a wonderful, homely feel. This family and dog friendly property boasts a well-equipped kitchen, welcoming living room with log burner, and a dining room on the ground floor, all of which with the perfect mix of traditional and modern.

The living area has two fabric sofas, a flat screen TV and a cosy log burner, so you can retreat here after a fun-filled day exploring Alnwick.

The shaker style kitchen is an olive-green colour which complements the otherwise neutral colour scheme. Fully equipped for self-catering stays, the kitchen has modern appliances, dishes, cookware and utensils.

Ideal for socialising, the dining area includes a large wooden table and stylish blue, velvet dining chairs. You’ll also find original wooden flooring here, adding real character to the space.

On the first floor, you’ll find two bedrooms and the family bathroom. Both bedrooms boast king size beds, individual colour schemes, and ample storage space so you can make yourself right at home.

Head upstairs to the second floor and you’ll find the final bedroom which is great for little ones. Benefiting from comfy twin single beds and sloped ceilings, this room has plenty of style.

Modern and sophisticated, the family bathroom has a bath and overhead shower, WC and basin. A separate WC can also be found on the ground floor.

The area

With cobbled streets lined with independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, the market town of Alnwick has charisma and personality in abundance. If you’re a keen reader, head to the old railway station and you’ll find one of the UK’s largest second-hand bookshops. As night falls, venture to one of the lively inns to enjoy live music.

Alnwick also has some of the country’s top attractions including Alnwick Castle, which was the location for the famous Harry Potter film franchise. Discover a realm of adventure by taking on the Dragon Quest or complete broomstick training in the very spot where Harry Potter had his first flying lesson. Head to the Artisan Courtyard to have fun dressing up in medieval costumes and get a feel for 14th century life. You can also explore The Alnwick Garden where you’ll find 12 acres of magnificent gardens and the world’s largest treehouse restaurant. There is also the newly opened (Spring 2023) Lilidorei here. This is a big tourist attraction for families as it’s the world's largest play structure.

The closest train station is Alnmouth, which is just a short drive from Alnwick so local towns in Northumberland can easily be reached via rail, including locations further afield including Edinburgh, Newcastle and London.

There are a number of bus stops throughout Alnwick. Hop on the X20 which takes you through to Newcastle with stops in beautiful areas of Northumberland like Alnmouth and Amble. The X18 route travels between Newcastle and Berwick-upon-Tweed with stops in Morpeth, Amble and Seahouses.

The nearest airport is Newcastle International, 34 miles away from Alnwick.

“Generally an excellent property, good facilities and easy to walk to the main street of Alnwick. When we stayed there were unfortunately ongoing issues with the wifi which sometimes didnt work. The property is managed by a company who werent v. flexible (the property wasnt booked the day we were leaving, but no late check out possible (despite offering to pay for it) with no clear reason given. Outside of these minor points, we would recommend.”
