Very dog friendly house in an excellent location within walking distance to the town centre.
We stayed here for a long weekend, the house was as seen on photos if not better. Very cosy and perfect for 5 adults and 2 dogs. Everything was clean and convenient and only a 10 minute walk into the town with lovely pubs on route to stop in. Would definitely come back again. Thank you
Thoroughly enjoyable from arrival ‘til departure. Positive: Very good location, private parking in the town centre is definitely a bonus. Lovely modern and stylish property, we were particularly impressed with the toys etc provided to make our canine friend very welcome. As an accommodation provider myself I would be happy to recommend Hoggarths to others, we hope to make a return visit. Lots of local places to eat, and a very vibrant town even in winter ! Negative: No complaints ! Our next stay would be for longer.
Second visit here. Love the location and short walk to pubs and restaurants, especially our favourite pub, The Middle Earth. Will definitely be returning here, it’s great for us and Dog friendly.
Great dog friendly place to stay. Easy to find and only a short walk into the centre of Whitby. House was clean, details for getting in where sent in plenty of time
Great home for exploring Whitby and surrounding area. Positive: The location was good, within walking distance of Whitby town. Dog friendly, with dog bowls, a bed and toys. The home had parking right in front. Lots of places to get food within walking distance. Negative: The carpet was very dirty in the living room area
We can’t wait to come back Positive: We love this little gem of a place, it’s really great for the kids and our dog. We’ve stayed 3 times and will always come back to this place as it’s so clean and a great bit of space for us all.
Lovely comfortable propery and great location from which to explore Whitby and surrounding area. Positive: Great location. Very easy to find foot paths to take dog for walks on. Liked privacy . Very warm and comfortable in the property. Soft linen and extra blankets. Liked the information online pack and additional paper guides. A very comfortable stay and a quiet area. Negative: Wasn't always easy to work out which key fitted which door - They could be colour coded or labled? Shower door had potential to leak as it would not shut securely - had to put towels on the floor at side of bath to soak up any drips from shower door. Although it was lovely to get correspondance from host I didn't like having to pay the unrefundable damage waiver of £35 as the only way of getting directions and key code. For the price we paid I would have assumed the damage insurance would be included.
Entering the courtyard the house looked good , unfortunately only parking for one car so extra guests had to pay for parking away from the property.Entering the property nice and easy with clear instructions, once in the property the smell of animals hits you ,clearly animal friendly place , dog bed ,toys, food and feeding station all present . Unfortunately the smell was throughout the property, unbearable . 3 bedrooms clean and well furnished however the single bed is broken dipped in the middle, leaving the guest sleeping in that room with disturbed nights sleep not good when you have paid a lot for a premium stay in Whitby . Good shower however leaked leaving the bathroom floor soaked and slippery. Kitchen good amenities with plenty of pans and cutlery although the knives need sharpening. Walkable to all attractions in Whitby . If the issues were addressed may stay again but as it is at the moment definitely not due to the smell!!
We've just returned from this modern clean and tidy home to stay. I found it ideal for our short 3 night stay with our two year old labrador it was home from home with nice touches of a provided basket full of toys. An enclosed yard to the rear gave security for the dog as an outside space. The shower was something else in a clean bathroom and with great water pressure. Parking right outside the front door within a courtyard so saved on town parking and convenient for access. A short walk along the harbour into the centre of town and beaches was only 10 minutes away. If I was to return to whitby, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and I would recommend anyone to stay here.
Was expensive for what we received and experienced Positive: The location, being dog friendly, the garden area and the on site parking was what sold this for us. Negative: We had issues with the parking, another car used our space. So we had to park elsewhere for 2 nights. The mattress on the double bed in the front bedroom was terrible, the springs can be felt and it was an awful nights sleep x3! Downstairs, entire ground floor wasn’t clean. The carpet had a number of stains on. The rug was very grubby. The corner of the coffee table had been chewed. There was a musky smell to the whole room. All window blinds throughout were thick with dust, dead flies in the windowsills. And the seagulls nesting on the roof opposite provided a 24 hour scream fest.
Lovely place that has everything you need and very dog friendly. Walkable distance to shops and restaurants. Would definitely return!
Had a great stay lovely property great location Positive: Facilities were very good . Property very clean tidy with most equipment that you would need. Would return and recommend Negative: Being dog friendly we did on occasions get a a whiff of dog odour.
Hidden little gem Positive: House was a little gem. it was like a home from home. The place had everything that was needed. Even the little touches of making sure that there was tea, coffee, sugar and milk for when you got there. Short walk to the harbour as well. Even a box of toys for the dog and dog bowls, even though we had come prepared. Loved this place. Would we come back? Yes we most definitely will be. Negative: Trying to work the TV out so it wasn't blaring the neighbours with the sound bar every time it was switched on
Very nice property. Positive: Lovely property, within walking distance from the town centre. Well maintained, and all the facilities you would need. We were a family of four adults, a baby and a dog, and there was plenty of space.
Family gathering Positive: Very centrally located, 5minute walk to Whitby town, house very clean with everything you need for a home from home, parking directly in front of the house for 1car. Nice extras like coffee and milk sachets on arrival. Garden area is small but does get the sun so a nice area to enjoy a coffee. The house is also dog friendly, we did have a dog but if you do they are well catered for with food bowls/lead and toys even a dog bed and the house has no doggy smell for those who don’t take a pet Negative: Although the property is very clean, the stained carpet in the lounge area was a bit of a disappointment. The very strict arrival and departure time are a bit of annoying, especially if you are travelling long distance
A Little Gem Positive: I stayed with my hubby, two kids who are older and our little dog. This is a little gem of a place. All the basics were there for us to use, like dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid etc. Lovely furniture, decorated lovely and very comfy and homely. The bedrooms are so spacious, clean and the beds are comfy. The bathroom is fab and has a lovely shower. There is also the bonus of the downstairs toilet too, which is handy. It is only a 10/15 walk into the main bit where shops and pubs are and the same to the steps of the abbey. There is also two pubs closer to the property, only a 5 min walk if that. Highly recommend The Endeavour pub. We defo want to visit Whitby again and would not hesitate to stay here. Negative: The carpet in the main living area is very stained and could do with being replaced with lino. The rest of the house is lovely though. :) We also left behind our dogs lead, which we didn't realise until we stopped half way home to stretch our legs, doh! haha!
What a fabulous little place. Perfect for 3 girlfriends and 3 fur babies to explore Whitby old town, new town, Robin Hood’s bay and Snaithes today. All beautiful places with a visit. House area was very quiet, cosy little courtyard and a stones throw from the old and new town bridge. Had everything we needed, with lovely crisp bedding. Beds were very comfortable and the open plan kitchen dinner lounge was great. Thank you we had a great time and look forward to another visit. KLC & doggies
Good Positive: Good location Negative: Needed rail in wardrobe in third bedroom o ly suitable for a baby
Amazing stay and location Positive: Myself and my husband was very impressed by this property and its location! It was clean and very comfortable. Only a 5-10 min walk to bars, pubs and attractions! We had a great stay and will def be back in the future.
READ REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING Positive: Good location, and being able to park right outside the property. Beds were comfortable and rooms had plenty of storage. Negative: As stated by previous guests, no hand towels and toilet paper . Housekeeping did a poor job, dishwasher still had previous guests items in it. Kitchen pots and pans need replacing, mugs in cupboard had lipstick on them, and there are still only 2 teaspoons ( also been raised since January this year. No instructions for central heating!! Chatbot Charlie is a waste of time, and it's clearly the one responding to reviews, the issues raised are not being dealt with by Host and Stay or the property owners.
Comfortable and beautiful Positive: We loved our stay, the property had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable. The decor was lovely and perfect location Negative: I would suggest a different draining board as we were constantly worried the plates would fall off and break. Also as much as it’s a nice touch to have a dog bed, dog toys and bowls, I would suggest removing these just because if they’ve been used by a different dog it can be an infection risk.
Positive: Great location, clean and comfortable house with everything what you need during your stay. Highly recommend!!
Relaxing 3 night stay in Whitby Positive: Clean, comfortable and spacious home from home feeling. Easy walk to town but in a very quiet location. Negative: Nothing
A visit to Whitby after a stay in York. We love Whitby’s vibe and location Airbnb needs maintaining, smaller than described and very very dark downstairs. Cluttered interior with excessive furnishings and someone else’s dog beds, bowls around. Too many plug in air fresheners for my Asthma. Rims of both toilets very dirty Dust/ debris behind bedside cabinets Lack of hand wash and washing up liquid for kitchen No outer rubbish bins/ recycling opportunities. Someone’s prescription medication boxes left in a bag in the property. Mould/ black shower curtain- mentioned on previous customer reviews On the plus host did deal with a dog howling/ crying at the house next door. We airbnb lots and this is not one we would return too.
Very central, quiet location, catering space
Positive: The layout, facilities and location near to Whitby town centre were excellent. Negative: Everything.
Lovely location and excellent value for a comfortable stay Positive: Nicely decorated, good bedding and towels all provided. Spacious bedrooms and living room. Nice to have own parking space Negative: Faint smell of dog which I guess comes with pet friendly accommodation.
Beautiful home close to Whitby Harbour Positive: Very clean! Lovely home close to the harbour, close to all of the shops, restaurants and pubs. Walking distance to everything! It had pots, pans, cutlery, glasses etc to make the stay even better as we were able to bring our own food and have breakfast every morning. Negative: Nothing, loved it!
Hurragh for Hoggarths yard Positive: Beds were very comfy, plenty of pillows, shower/bath was a good size, house was warm and roomy. Kitchen had everything you needed except a coffee machine - did have a kettle, coffee, tea, sugar & milk supplied. Great location without being in middle of everything but close enough to walk everywhere. Negative: Only 2 teaspoons, the bt hub info for wifi isnt correct but it is on the physical router.
Positive: Home from home. A couple of little extras needed, such as hand towel and scourer in kitchen beds were very comfortable. Bowls and toys provided for dogs. Only a few minutes walk to centre of Whitby Took a while to find accommodation as there were no directions. Negative: See above
Poor cleanliness in the property. Attention to detail needed. Positive: Size of the property very good. Parking outside property good. A short walk into Whitby. Dog friendly. Comfortable beds and pillows Negative: Cleanliness of the property is poor. Dirty mould black grout on tiles in the bathroom where shower bath is.As is the shower curtain . Old food bits in the grooves of dining table. Dog wee patches in the yard not cleaned away. Skirting boards dirty. Seat pad in window is filthy, needs washing. Only 1 tea towel supplied. No hand towels supplied. The rugs and carpets could have been vacuumed more still bits and crumbs all over them. It could do with a deep clean and some in house maintenance on the property.
Positive: Great location and clean Negative: Nothing
Positive: close to everything Negative: back door was a bit tricky to close nothing major
Positive: Spacious and comfortable. Had everything you need. Great location. Excellent communication from the host before our stay. Negative: I there wasn't anything I didn't like
Great few days in a comfortable house but spoiled by lack of attention to detail. Positive: Great position with an easy walk into the town. Spacious and nice to have a place to sit outside even though it was very small. Negative: Dog smell when we arrived. Had to buy air fresheners and scented candles. No locks on bathroom doors We didn’t really cook but the pans were in a very bad state. When stripping the beds before leaving we found one had no mattress protector and another had a very stained one. Not nice!
We visit Whitby quite frequently and in the past it's just been bnbs etc , but now we have the dog we obviously go dog friendly and tbh it's brilliant you have the place to yourselves, you can decide to cook or eat out, were we where was ideal as we stumbled across a little dog walk just up the Rd ,it's basically a big loop but you're able to leg you dog off the lead, you are a little out the back ay of the town centre so to speak but it's 15min walk. The place is perfect for two or four with a couple of dogs I would say. Clean , a good size plenty space and a bonus for parking even though it's only one allocated space. We will definitely look at booking this again.
Host & Stay use AI for their communication and customer service. An AI agent named ‘Charlie’ responds to messages with a stock reply. I raised a serious issue about a broken bed frame and only received ‘rest assured we will send a maintenance person asap’ message but nothing was done. When I raised further points I got a stock reply along the lines of ‘please do not hesitate to reach out’. Well I didn’t hesitate, but it didn’t result in the problem bed frame being fixed during our stay. Warning to others staying in the Whitby property - check that there are no missing slats on the bed frame before sitting on it. Otherwise you may fall through the gap like one of us did. Also the kitchen hobs had not been cleaned properly. Apart from that the property was in an ideal location and would be good value if not for a bed that was broken.
Lovely cottage in great location. Positive: Location, parking spot, no steps up to property, good size, tea and coffee and milk for when we got there.
I had a lovely visit to Whitby with my son & daughter and her dog gravy. The accommodation was very homely, clean and comfortable. This was my 5th visit to Whitby and my son and daughter would love to come back for another visit. I would definitely recommend staying in a Hostandstay
Really unclean, white shower curtain turned black with mould. Layers of dust over all the light fittings, walls, surfaces etc. Was a shame as would be nice if wasn't for the dirtiness of the property.
Lovely place to stay, near to amenities, clean and comfortable, everything you need and more ! Positive: The location was perfect for us, within walking distance of the town. Parking available in front of the house. Clean welcoming place to stay with everything we may need. Clear instructions available for appliances . Plenty of storage available for clothes etc. full length mirror. Lovely hot shower . Felt like home from home …. It was our second stay at Number 5 . Negative: We’re happy with everything
Positive: Lovely location, good size house for our family. Negative: Shower curtain needs changing as moldy
Good location but needs a good clean. Positive: Good location, comfortable beds, allocated parking space. Negative: Unclean. Very clear it hadn’t had more than a quick surface clean in a long while. Many dirty dishes in cupboard, dirty pans and cutlery too. upstairs bathroom very worn, mouldy and generally unclean (poo mark on toilet roll holder). Dirty bathroom bin with no bin bag in it. Dirty floors (not ideal when travelling with a crawling baby). Dirty trays in oven. Arrived to an empty washing up liquid bottle and no sponge to wash dishes with. Could be lovely but needs a deep clean.
Enjoyable. Positive: Parking space. Negative: Wi-Fi was unobtainable.
Very good shower curtain let it down Positive: Everything Negative: Dirty moldy shower curtain
Family time in a loverly house in the beautiful city of whitby Positive: Location ,warmth ,space needed for a family of 5 a short walk into Whitby I would highly recommend this place it was a find for us. Negative: No tvs in the bedroom and the one downstairs isn’t a smart one only 1 tea towel and not enough toilet roll and bin bags but don’t be fooled this isn’t a game changer we are just being picky plus only one space to park so cost us £40 for the other one .
Really nice accommodation a short walk from the centre of Whitby.
Excellent Positive: Lovely property, great location. Would recommend Negative: Couldn’t work out heating as was set on timer. Went in January on a cold and wet weekend so was cold in afternoon.
This place was amazing …. Spotless and so homely ….. with Whitby about a 5/10 min walk away it’s an awesome location….. from years of working away from home the first thing I do is check the bed and the shower and it’s was awesome the beds were so comfortable and the shower was top notch ….. everything else was amazing so this stay was more than we imagined and believe me we didn’t want to leave definitely going back
A great base to explore from and to recharge the batteries. We will definitely be back! Positive: Modern and homely, a brilliant location in the centre of Whitby. Negative: Nothing
Good value, nice place, well located Positive: Clean, lots of facilities, close to whitby centre, private off street parking Negative: No issues
All very good, definitely stay there again. Positive: All good, location great, facilities were good. Negative: Nothing
Positive: The place was clean, spacious and well equipped. It was in a lovely location just a 10 minute walk in to Whitby town centres. Negative: There was nothing not to like.
Lovely place in great location
Stayed here for two nights, the house was very close to town but secluded in its own yard so you couldn't hear the noise from the road. The house was lovely welcoming with a cosy feel. Clean and smart. We will recommend to friends and will likely return. Home from home feel
Positive: Brilliant location! The bathroom and bedrooms were lovely. Bonus finding a downside toilet too. Negative: Carpet downstairs and rug looked old and mucky. Only one side of the toaster worked
Comfortable, spacious house in central whitby. Positive: It was really easy. Communication prior to arrival was clear and we were given the details to access the lock box for keys. The house was well decorated and comfortable. The bedrooms were big and the bathroom was lovely. We had everything we needed for our break away. The location was perfect, we were close enough to the town that we could walk into the centre in 5 mins, but were far enough out that it was quiet at night. The addition of a parking space was a bonus. Overall, we had a lovely stay and I would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere in whitby. Negative: There wasn't anything we didn't like, the house was lovely and location was fab.
Lovely house only a few minutes stroll into town with onsite parking Positive: Excellent location. Well equipped kitchen. Really comfortable beds and pillows Negative: There was nothing to dislike
Positive: Great location, beautiful house Negative: The carpet was really dirty with really bad stains. I think this needs to be cleaned or replaced. The place wasn't as clean downstairs as when we stopped a couple of years ago.
Cleanliness let stay at property down Positive: Good location on site parking Negative: Cleanliness was poor
An enjoyable two days Positive: Spacious, near town centre, well stocked with plates, pans, cutlery etc. Fantastic shower Negative: Nothing
great location and property Negative: There was a strong smell of dogs
It was what we hoped for Positive: Location was great Negative: Nothing
Lovely house in a good location! Perfect for exploring Whitby!
Positive: Everything OK no problem, but your cleaners could do I better job, just the finer points Negative: As above
Positive: Spacious, tastefully decorated, well equipped and very comfortable. Negative: Nothing
Lovely house, location spot on,communication excellent Positive: The location, the house was lovely, very spacious ,would highly recommend Negative: It’s not that I did not like the house, would recommend a wooden floor instead of carpet ,that’s just my opinion
Clean and comfortable home, every thing was available for a pleasant 4 night stay. Walking distance to everything in the main Whitby centre.
Positive: The entrance to Hoggarth Yard is easily missed. Access is through an arch way under a building. A quick call to the company & they explained it. Everything in the house was as expected. It is large house lots of space. There is a single parking space right outside the front door. The previously reported issues of poor mattresses & leaking shower are all fixed. There are lots of condiments in the kitchen, herbs & spices too, but it's long life mini milk pots in the fridge. The shower, wow! The water pressure is fabulous, the bath wide & deep. Lots of storage in the 2 main bedrooms, 3rd bed could fit a medium height adult. Heating is easy to use, push button up up for on & down for off. The Fleece, 5 mins from the house, is a great little pub, lovely & friendly staff, great choice of gins too. They sell sandwiches, pies & pizza too. There is a chip shop 2 mins from Hoggarth Yard. Walk further & lots of food choices, though they tend to close early evening. Carry on round & over the bridge into Whitby for more food options. We ate at The Pier pub, very large portions, reasonable prices & pleasant staff. This was our 1st visit to Whitby & we will return. P.s. no, there isn't a coffee machine. If that's a deal breaker for you, then I suggest taking your own with you, or you will miss out on a great house!
Lovely visit to Whitby the accommodation was cherry on the cake. Positive: Very welcoming.. comfortable and everything you can possibly need, great location, clean and fresh, gorgeous house well worth a stay at. Negative: Nothing!
A comfortable stay Positive: Excellent location. Short walk into the town. Very near the harbour. Everything provided for a comfortable stay. Clean and cosy. Parking was included for 1 car. Negative: The shower door has not been sealed properly so the floor is soaking and runs towards the door. The wood near the door is rotting so you could tell it had been like that a while.
Nice house, but could have been much better if the beds were more comfortable with better quality mattress. Positive: Clean, tidy … good facility’s and location. Negative: Mattresses are too ‘cheap’ and too soft … could feel the springs .. they need to be at least as good as a travel lodge (but not worse, as these were). For info … Water leaking onto floor from shower screen over months (that could have been easily sealed) has rotted the bottom of the bathroom door frame and probs the landing floor under the carpet.
Positive: The location was perfect Negative: The noisy workmen drilling and generator noise that kept us awake for 2 nights
Slightly disappointed Positive: The house was very clean and tidy Negative: The shower screen leaked all over the bathroom floor and nearly out the door every shower. I did contact you after reading reviews about the shower leaking, and you assured me that it was fixed, so imagine my annoyance when it clearly wasn't. The double mattress was really uncomfortable and desperately needs changing. The curtain pole was broke one the front window in the lounge and was just lent up. Although there were blinds, it would have been nice to be able to close the curtains. No coffee maker, as stated
Great location, with benefit of parking Positive: Location, parking and comfort Negative: Nothing
Lovely comfy house Positive: Decor and cleanliness and the bonus parking spot Negative: We arrive and put ice in freezer went out and came back to find it was melting realised it was all switched off and took us a while to find where to switch it on - Shower screen doesn't close properly
We had a great weekend in this lovely property. It is in a great location and the parking is a bonus. Comfortable and quiet property, and the hosts were great. We would definitely return.
Lovely comfortable house very close to facilities - super break Positive: Great location, guaranteed parking by the front door, sociable space and a bonus to have an outdoor space. Very short walk into the centre, nicely decorated. Negative: Very minor points - shower spilled a little onto the bathroom floor - coffee machine was missing (but the host planned to replace this on changeover)
Very nice Positive: Two comfy beds, it was clean and comfy living room. Negative: Single bed mattress was awful. Little pot in the courtyard was full of water and fag stumps. And I've not had part of my insurance returned.
We had a fantastic stay at No. 5 Hoggarth’s Yard. The location is perfect for walking into Whitby town centre. The house itself is beautifully presented and is exactly how it looks in the photos. The master bedroom is a very good size. The third bedroom is quite small but it wasn’t an issue for us. I would definitely recommend this property for anyone visiting Whitby and I’m sure we’ll be back!
Great space and location just need to get the smell sorted (ditch the carpets downstairs) as per other reviews and this would be awesome
Positive: It was lovely place to stay . Negative: Everything was amazing
Whitby Weekend Break at No5 Hoggarths Yard Positive: Accommodation was spacious, comfortable & well equipped! The downstairs loo was a bonus as was the parking space right outside the front door! The accommodation was very central, just a small walk into Whitby! Everything we needed for a lovely short break thank you! Negative: Nothing everything was great
