A perfect location
Positive: Property is ideally located with gorgeous views , courtesy of the living room floor to ceiling windows. The area is quiet, house is very inviting and works surprisingly well for families with small children.
Negative: No dislikes
Perhaps only comment would pertain to the downstairs bedroom which is quite bright in the night.

The stay at Cottage Sandside No 3 was wonderful for me, my wife and my daughter. We felt at home in the accommodation from the moment we arrived until we left. Although the accommodation was in the centre of Whitby's tourist attractions, i.e. close to Whitby Abbey, harbour, 199 Steps etc, it was very quiet, relaxing and restful. The weekend we were in Whitby happened to be the Whitby Pirate Festival, so the town was full of people dressed up as pirates. I recommend the accommodation to anyone who wants to discover Whitby and the surrounding area. Thank you!
GuestAirbnbFeb 2024
Lovely location if you’re ok with steps and slopes - which is essential for Whitby! A lovely little street and very close to the 199 steps.
We stayed three nights as a family of four (kids 6 and 8) and it was lovely, but snug. The kitchen is well equipped but small, especially as there isn’t an entrance hall, boot room or utility - plenty of space for a long weekend, but I think we might have felt a bit cramped for any longer.
The kids loved their bedroom in the loft and the views were beautiful. Probably would have been tricky location if our kids were younger - but great for our age!

Brill place to stay, the only downfall was parking but once we managed to find a parking spot our time here was ace, the kids loved it.

Positive: beach view
Negative: difficult to get to with lots of bags and things for a baby.
not generally ideal for children as on three levels and tight stairs.

be aware there may not be more than one toilet roll and no welcome pack with things in.
we didn’t even have any washing up liquid.
only one t- cloth for drying pots.
no milk for tea on arrival.

Positive: The property itself is stunning, attention to detail is 10/10 really lovely property and views.
Negative: As stunning as the property is, we had two days of problems with the heating in the attic room where our three year old slept. The rest of the house has central heating control but the attic has one electrical heater which has manual control locked and is remotely set by the owner. I tried to get in touch the first night to change it from 7 degree and to no avail, tried again the second night and finally on the third night it was rectified. We stayed four nights. 7 degree is just not acceptable while zero conditions outside, out little one became unwell because of this. Please have the heater unlocked for manual control for the next person so they don’t have to go through what we did, if it wasn’t for this it’s a cracking place to stay.
I know others have mentioned this too and we were aware but the access is pretty difficult, had to park on the other side of the water and walk up. It’s a difficult check in and out because of it but I’d say well worth the hassle, the property and location is stunning.

The location. was fantastic - not only beautiful but ideally situated for the Abbey, Brewery, local shops and restaurants etc. It wasn't the easiest to find and with a young family packing and unpacking took some coordination but apart from that our stay was perfect. I'd recommend researching car parks in the area as the one closest is small and is usually fully. The others are a good 20min walk from the property. All fine, if you're prepared.

Perfect for much needed rest and relaxation
Positive: Stunning property, all the decor and touches were just beautiful! I traveled with my Mum (70s) Sister (50s) Myself (40s) & My Daughter (teens). The property and location was perfect for us all.
Little touches made eveything easier (ie milk, sugar, tea & coffee etc) and the butter biscuits went down very well with the youngest of our party.
Thank you for a wonderful stay - I hope we are lucky enough to be able to book and come back one day, soon.
Negative: Absolutely nothing! It was amazing!

Great place to stay! Soothing sounds of the sea, even with a gale, it was wonderful listening and watching Mother Nature through the beautiful windows in the home! Relaxing, comfortable and quite convenient to restaurants and shops! Loved the decor! Thanks for the coffee tea and snacks! Very much appreciated!

We stayed for Christmas, it was just what we needed after a difficult year for us. We were looking for somewhere right on the beach, to capture the serenity we needed ....we got just what we ordered!
Parking /access is a bit tricky as reviews state , but don't let this put you off ! A little tip, if you park on the corner of the Duke of York public house, you can access the property to drop off your bags with a 2 min flat walk, before moving your vehicle to the Abbey. This removes The 199 step walk with juggling luggage !
This property is a must if you want a traditional beach stay with awesome fish and chips a few feet away !
Communication from host 5 star.
Nothing to fault.

Positive: The view.
Negative: This is the 2nd property we have booked through booking .com this year where the property owners had external control of the heating, on both occations we have paid a premium to sit with a blanket on our knee with no control of the heating. We are a couple in our 60s and live in the real world. The next property we book through any site will be one where we have control of our environment.

Had a wonderful week at No 3 Sandside (September 2023); Getting luggage into the property took a bit of working out but if you are fairly fit we would recommend dropping a person and your baggage off in the turning circle for the abbey at the top of the steps and then you can park your car in the abbey car park; I then waited for my other half and we managed to negotiate down the slope rather than the steps with our suitcase and other belongings; House is wonderful - views out on the beach and harbour so peaceful and relaxing and spent many hours watching the boats come and go; Peaceful at night and everything you need in the property; Whitby is fab, loads to do and lovely eating places and pubs; would recommend Duke of York right next door and we visited Pizza West, Cosa Nostra, Trenchers and the Magpie - all of which were fab (recommended in guidebook).
All in all a wonderful property and a wonderful place.

If you like scenic views this place is perfect. The lounge is better than on the photos - way more spacious- perfect.
Kitchen equipment and crockery all lovely and high standard.
Thanks for biscuits milk and coffee etc.
Most places on air bnb don’t supply foil or baking paper or enough loo paper which I always think is a shame. I’d rather no biscuits and enough loo paper!
It’s tricky to find in the dark and the pavement flags in the steps are loose but these are NOT the properties responsibility- it’s council stepped paving but honestly a trip hazard in the dark with suitcases.
Whitby is an amazing place for a weekend.

We’ve stayed in many luxury apartments and cottages over the years but this one probably had the best views.
Positive: This was a luxury holiday accommodation with stunning views minutes from beach, shops, pubs and restaurants. Would definitely recommend
Negative: The only fault we had is that the wifi network and password displayed in the property was incorrect and different from the back of the wifi box so couldn’t get on the internet straight away. Minor problem.

This property has a nice view but the property was not cleaned to a good standard for the price paid
Positive: The view is lovely and the bedrooms are good sized. Location is good.
Negative: The house did not feel clean at all. The bathmat had brown stuff all over it. The downstairs bedroom stank of cigarettes. There were some black bin bags and sellotape just on the bedside table so I don’t think it was properly cleaned or tidied. It was also clearly unhoovered as it had big bits of rubbish under the bed. It was also not child friendly at all! There were no doors blocking any of the stairways. This meant the ground floor bedroom and living room had no barrier between them too so there was no sound barrier at all.
GuestAirbnbSep 2026
The place was just as stunning as advertised. Falling asleep to the waves was the best. The beds are comfortable and the living room is just perfect. It’s in a very walkable area. But if you have issues with walking down and uphill I would be cautious. Parking is a bit of a nightmare and cost can rack up. I suggest bringing a wagon if you pack heavy like me because it will be a bit of a walk and you can’t drive up to the air bnb. They only provide starter amenities so I would suggest bringing toilet paper. There isn’t a store close by. There is one about a 10 minute walk away. We did absolutely love this place and would come back in a heartbeat!

BEWARE: Beautiful apartment but horrendous parking situation. Be wary of bookings in August; see previous reviews for info on August Regatta and unbearable overcrowding generally at this time of year.
Horrible time to visit.
The apartment is lovely with incredible views. Communication was also good with a helpful interactive guide. The kitchen could do with a deep clean in the drawers (hair and food inside), areas of the lounge were dusty, and the bottom bedroom has a musty damp smell, but clean overall.
The parking ruins the experience - the long stay car park is tiny (we waited 45 mins for a space) and is a considerable walk up a narrow, cobbled street with hills - absolute nightmare with luggage. Horrendous with kids and I’d say virtually impossible for anyone with mobility issues.
Check regatta dates - thanks to a previous review we avoided and secured refund for that date, but we should have been informed by the host upon booking. Check in is too late. We won’t be returning

Positive: Beautiful view across the bay .Near little shops .The property is well appointed and decorated with high-end finishing touches , well thought out, and gives a cosy seaside vibe .
Negative: Property was not clean, and had to get a cleaning team sent out .The customer service was however excellent and they sent a team within an hour or so They property is in a lovely location but there is a steep slope to get to the property and when sandy people were slipping over .You can't park near the property, and parking at the lower end of town is £13.50 per day . When you arrive, if you can get through the street, you can park before the slope and offload, this I found out from a local who had been very helpful . then move to the car park as mentioned .We parked in Church St car park as the other is the Abbey, and you have 199 steps with your stuff, etc .Church ST is the nearest .Today, when checking out, it was very problematic as lots of people walking on the road as narrow streets with hardly any pavement , lorries delivering, and other holiday makers trying to get their cars the nearest that they could .The upstairs room has low celling and stairs near where you get out of bed , this is not safe for young children .There are little steps up to the lounge from the kitchen and a half staircase leading down to the larger bedroom .Going upstairs the stairs are narrow and slightly winding .

A beautiful home in a stunning location. We’ve stayed on Sandside before but in another home, we both agreed this one was superior! We’ll be back!

Really Lovely view. Clean Property. Stylish decor.
Positive: The view and living room concertina opening doors.
Negative: We stayed at the property for only two days so the propertie’s arrival and departure times impacted our enjoyment . Therefore, if I were able to change something, then I would recommend the owners tighten up on their changeover/cleaning period. We could not see any reason why it should take six hours to complete this task. If better scheduling of the cleaning was put in place, then access to the property could happen earlier, for example, from 2pm (instead of 4pm) and secondary in importance would be to have the leaving time at 11am (instead of 10am).
So our recommendation would be to have a three hour changeover/cleaning period to clean the property (instead of the current six hours).
Whitby
Positive: Loved the view. It was immense and so close and handy to walk into Whitby. Lovely decor inside. Bifold window is a bonus
Negative: The bed upstairs is ridiculously uncomfortable. Its small and we both had bad backs. They need to invest in a better mattress. And quality pillows. Considering what we paid.
There is no door leading to other couples bedroom so that made them uncomfortable. As they were woken with us using the toilet. There's also a mirror facing bed so you can see them sleep. Also we could not use livingroom when they went to bed. Once again due to lack off a door for privacy and noise
Also very bright downstairs due to window on door. Slight damp smell downstairs. Towels need to be improved as they were discoloured

We had a great stay at No 3 Sandside. It is a great spot on the front with fantastic views.
It’s expensive for the size of it but you are paying for the views and the location so you look outwards not inwards.
Parking can be a bit of a challenge, I used a beach trolly to bring my luggage etc from the car. A slightly earlier check in (4pm) and later check out (10am) would be helpful, especially given the nightly rate.

We had a lovely stay at Sandside No. 3. It looks out over the beach and harbor of Whitby, and the sound of the waves is constant and delightful. It's near the bottom of the 99 Steps and walking distance to just about everything in town. Although there are often a lot of tourists on the pedestrian-only part of Church Street leading up to the 99 Steps, the crowds disappear at the end of the day, there's almost no one on the street before 10:00 AM, and we were never bothered by noise. The home is tidy and bright, with a nautical theme, the kitchen well-equipped. The hosts were highly responsive. Parking is a bit complicated since there's no dedicated parking at Sandside No. 3 and the fairly small public car park in Church Street is often full. (The car park at the Abbey has plenty of spaces, but requires a journey on foot up and down the hill that may be difficult for some visitors.) That aside, we really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Sandside No. 3.

Fabulous location, lovely property, disappointed with Host and Stay
Positive: Lovely accommodation, fantastic location
Negative: Cleanliness could have been better, no storage space for food in the kitchen. Very disappointed that we had to pay insurance cover, have never had to with booking.com previously, will not be booking with Host and Stay again, we had paid for £500 worth of cover but we were still warned that if we forgot to report any damages before we left we would be charged again. Also too many unnecessary reminders to vacate the property by 10 am which all felt very patronising. Will stick just with booking.com in future.

The property was absolutely stunning, spotlessly clean and 2 mins walk from shops and restaurants. Unknown to us when we booked, it was Regatta weekend ! We had a great view of the races from our sitting room, and lovely views of the sun rising and setting, it was idilic.
The quirky furnishings in each room were right up my street, we totally loved them.
Regarding parking, we parked at the long stay in Church Street 5 mins walk away £10.80 for 24 hours. On departure we drove the car up to the top of Church street to load up, you’re allowed to for access. If we had known we would have done the same on arrival.
Our accommodation was the icing on the cake, making our short break in Whitby fantastic.
This booking was well worth the money, we will 100% be booking again in the future.

The views and sounds from the harbour into the living room and top bedroom are worth every penny.
We couldn’t have picked a better place.
You’re in the heart of old Whitby.
One tip would be: Dont park at the Abbey to drop/pickup bags, depending on the time of day as the street leading to it can be crowded, you can drive to the start of Henrietta St to drop off, then park up at the Abbey car park.

A stunning cottage with the most incredible views. Had everything we needed, was very clean, full of charm and character, warm, cosy… you feel right at home. Perfectly located to enjoy everything beautiful Whitby has to offer.
