Fantastic property, great hosts. We will definitely be returning! Positive: We came to Whitby for the weekend to celebrate our son's birthday, and I'm so glad we did! Our hosts were super helpful & had great communication. We left an item behind, which they looked for and agreed to post back to us. Décor was lovely, beds were comfy & the outdoor area was a bonus. Location was great. All in all, it was great value for money, we would defiantly come back. Negative: As I'm sure all the other reviews will mention, the only downside was the number of steps, both outside & inside the property - something to bare in mind if you have mobility issues. Other than that, nothing negative to say.

More than enough utensils and crockery Really comfy beds Great showers Secure garden for the dog Negative: Wasn’t a dislike as such but could really do with one more of the yellow chairs no one more dining chair …there isn’t quite room for 4 adults on the sofa so one of us ended up on the floor and all 5 of us couldn’t eat at the table The heating is super efficient so we ended up with the window open….. you could save some pennies by turning it down a fraction

Positive: We stayed as a family group of 5 and I have to say this place was perfect in every way. Perfect location with only a short walk to the town centre. Beautiful and well kept accommodation with everything you need and more! The garden was a little suntrap and a lovely place to sit after a busy day exploring Whitby. We would highly recommend Mallard Cottage and would definitely rebook in the future! (Although not a problem for us, some could struggle with the amount of steps and stairs) Negative: Nothing everything was great

Great place for a stay in Whitby Positive: Perfect location for visiting Whitby and with the bus and train station within a few minutes walk it’s easy to see the surrounding countryside. Plenty of good restaurants nearby as well. The accommodation is well appointed and comfortable and great for families or friends especially with the two bathrooms. I would happily return. Negative: It’s quite a climb up several steep flights of steps to get to the front door.

Great location but not very clean Positive: Location was great and it has a parking spot. Negative: The property wasn’t very clean on arrival, particularly the living area. We found bits of food and small shards of broken glass on the floor on arrival. Also the blind in the living room was tied up and couldn’t be used so we felt very overlooked by people in other properties in the evening. A stair gate wasn’t provided even though we requested one prior to arrival. We did contact host & stay on arrival to request this again if possible and was told that they would speak to the maintenance team the following day and would be back in touch but this wasn’t followed up.

Positive: Location was excellent for the town & amenities We had our non verbal autistic grandson with us, who needs peace & quiet & it fulfilled this very well Negative: Parking is restricted - we were allocated 1 space but had 2 cars therefore we had to park our car in the marine car park (chargeable) but there is no choice

Whitby visit Positive: The cottage was close to the centre and had 1 designated parking space. The 3 separate bedrooms were really comfy, allowing a good night's sleep, and the location was very quiet. Negative: Unfortunately, we arrived at the property to a significant leak from the top floor sink, resulting in water leaking through the middle floor ceiling. We rang the hosts who acted upon this immediately, sending someone out. STEPs - there are a lot before you get to the property and inside the 3 story property itself. I live in a bungalow, 😆 It gave my legs a good work out, however mum found it a bit tough. Although it was generally clean and tidy we found empty Carling cans under the sink and outside on the table, no big deal, but a cleaner gets paid to check. Also, all the beautiful curly light/lamp fittings we full of dust.

overall it was nice, just the steps were a bit of a problem. I should have read details . Positive: Box wouldn't open in torrential rain. Holiday maker nearby let us shelter with our luggage in his hallway whilst he made a phone call to emergency number who eventually reprogrammed the number and we got in, soaked to the skin having hauled all our luggage and bags up 39 large steps in torrential rain. Two of our party need walking sticks which. enabled them to get up the steps. As the key didn't work first time this made our experience longer in the rain , all in all this made things very traumatic for us all, as we are all pensioners, one of our party is 90 years old and has cancer. so as you may imagine it was not a good start. Negative: The steps up to the cottage, very steep and hard going .

Lovely place to stay in Whitby Positive: Great location, so quick to walk into Whitby. Also had a parking space. It was clean, modern and had all the facilities needed. Bedrooms were all good sizes. Negative: As others have said, there are a lot of stairs going up and down, so I personally had to limit my journeys up and down the stairs.

Mallard cottage is definitely not suitable for any one that is wanting a relaxing stay or has any form of mobility probl Positive: The property itself was very modern and clean and in a good location and had its own parking space Negative: The property is wrongly named ‘cottage’ when it is in fact a town house set over 3 floors. The living room and kitchen are on the 3rd floor, 2bedrooms and bathroom on 2nd floor and 1 bedroom and garden access to the ground floor and access to each floor has quite steep steps. That’s after you have climbed 37 steps to actually get to the property. Travelling with 3 aunts all in their 80,s made it impossible for them to even reach the property let alone climbe another three flights of steep stairs to reach the lounge in the property. After a couple of attempts in trying to get my aunts up to the property (one aunt has COPD and other 2 some restricted mobility) we had to abandon our stay at Mallard cottage. However all was not lost as speaking to Host and stay manager Kayleigh she was amazing and very sympathetic to our situation and without hesitation arranged an alternative apartment, that was only 1 min away from Mallard cottage and was beautiful, all on the ground floor.

Excellent short break. Would recommend to people with good mobility. Positive: Location Negative: 49 steps to get to the front door. Poor lighting to property.

It will be a visit that aded to the memories! Positive: We had a great stay. Son over from the States so wanted to impress, which Mallard Cottage did. Location good, not far from centre. Negative: The steps and stairs were an unexpected nightmare for my husband who has mobility problems, would be better to have been warned!

We were two couples and had a wonderful time. It had everything we needed. Positive: It was clean and bright with modern furnishings. In a lovely spot, just where we like to be. Negative: Not enough seating for everyone to sit in a more relaxed manner. Maybe a different configuration. Lots of kitchen area, not much living space. But everything was comfy and clean.

My partner and I would certainly stay there again and have recommended it to friends Positive: The property had everything to make your stay comfortable. Decorated and furnished to a good quality. Negative: My elderly parents were with us and father has walking difficulties. We had not realised when we booked it that there was a steep incline before between 30 and 40 steps before accessing the property and on one of the days when it rained his walking stick slipped on the stairs.

Great stay Positive: Mallard cottage is beautiful, well kept and very modern. Great to have a dishwasher. The bed was extremely comfortable, with crisp white linen. There was plenty of hanging space and drawers in the bedrooms. Hairdryers are supplied so no need to take your own. There is also complimentary shampoo, body wash and soap. Negative: There was very little to no space in the kitchen to put food as all the cupboards were taken up with crockery, glasses etc. There was a blanket in the living room that appeared to have very short dog hairs on it, this may have been an oversight though as the rest of the property was spotless. We have stayed in other apartments in the past where a welcome pack is available on check in, usually a pack of biscuits, big pack of crisps and other bits and pieces, Mallard cottage didn't offer this at all, and although its not essential, its a welcome touch when arriving after a long journey. Be aware there are lots of steps up to the property, we knew about them beforehand, however nothing can prepare you for dragging suitcases and other luggage up and back down them.

A well-kept apartment with just the right amount of space in the rooms for a quiet weekend with friends. On-street parking needs quite a bit of luck, but that’s due to North Yorkshire Council’s annoying parking policy in our nicest seaside towns (particularly annoying for out-of-town locals, like me!). Everything is comfortably walkable from the apartment and our queries were dealt with promptly.

Mallard Cottage was ideal for our group of three female friends. We had a room each and two bathrooms to share. The allocated parking space was brilliant. We loved the contemporary design and there was everything we needed in the kitchen area. Not that we needed to cook a meal on our short stay because the fish and chips in Whitby is very good and there are other lovely places to eat out.

Positive: It was very convenient to the train station. It had good places to unpack our clothes. The beds were comfortable. The TV was nice. We enjoyed the gym membership (oops, I mean all the steps that helped work off all that good Whitby food). Negative: There were no drinking glasses and the kitchen would not have been enough kitchen counter space if we had cooked as usual. It would be good if the dishes were stored more conveniently, but I can see why it is that's way.

A lovely little house in a great location with all of Whitby a short walk away. As it states there are numerous steps so you must be comfortable climbing multiple flights of stairs in one go. We were aware of this at booking and no problem for us. No storage space in the kitchen at all other than in fridge which wasn't great for a 9 night stay but we worked around it by putting jute bags on the floor behind the dining table for cereals etc. Fantastic water pressure in the shower was a bonus. A lot to do locally. Without car recommend walks to Robin Hood Bay and bus back and to Sandsend out to castle there and back (both c.15km). Also walk from Grosmont to Goathland (Heartbeat and Harry Potter) which can do on the steam train but quite pricey. We drove to Grosmont. Also car to Dalby Forest, Falling Foss or Wykeham Lakes. Escape room and puzzle rooms at latter for rainy days as well as loads of water sports. Also 10 pin bowling etc at Scarborough for rainy day. A fantastic holiday!

Beautiful accommodation. Everything was of the highest quality from the blinds, furnishings, mattresses and kitchen. super clean - everything looked brand new. Ideal location only a few minutes from Whitby Harbour. Nice outdoor space. Felt right at home, comfortable and had everything included that we could ever need. Only down side (which is at no fault to the host) there are quite alot of steps leading up to the property. Not a big deal for us but had parents with us in their late 60s who found it strenuous at times. Great place and would definitely return in the future, hosts were so helpful and responded quickly to any queries we had. would 100% recommend this place to others. thank you 😊

Was a little difficult to find as the address is incorrect, but once found a lovely house and we had a lovely time! Living area is on the top floor so a little tricky with little ones but great that a stair gate was provided. Overall, a lovely stay and find!

We had a wonderful stay at this coastal house for my boyfriend's birthday weekend. The house was impeccably clean, beautifully located, and provided everything we needed for a memorable getaway. It's definitely a 10/10 from us—highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful escape super close to Whitby harbour.

Location, location, location! Positive: As close to the centre as you can get! 3 story house with excellent furnishings and fittings. Help always available via Booking.com and people running the accommodation. Can’t praise it enough! Negative: Only thing I would mention is that the approach to the property consists of many uphill steps, possibly not suited for anyone with a walking disability! Mind you, we were 3 aging pensioners with new knees and back problems and it didn’t deter us from going out! Again, 5 out of 5

Great stay but be prepared to climb the stairs Positive: The location is amazing! In walking distance of everything. It’s very big and the rooms are big. There’s every appliance one may need. And it’s dog friendly Negative: The steps 😂 steps to the property then more steps inside. Parking was also an issue and getting to the property was quite difficult due to parking of other vehicles. The walls are quite thin so you can hear a lot of the neighbours noise.

The apartment is in a great location for access to the town, only a 5 minute walk down to the front. Very handy getting a parking space included. The photos accurately reflect the apartment, which was nice overall. Comfy living area with a good kitchen, and smart TV. It wasn’t the cleanest apartment we’ve stayed in. Quite a bit of dust, and hadn’t been hoovered very well based on things we found around the place. Also missing basic things you’d hope to find for a short stay, like washing liquid or dishwasher tablets. Overall though it was a good stay based on the size and location.

We loved it! Positive: The location was fantastic, short walk away from the centre, beach and shops. Negative: Downstairs toilet a bit clonky when sat on, small bed was not as comfortable as the two doubles which certainly were!

Positive: Cleanliness, well equipped, light and airy (it was warm outside during out stay) the location was good but the living area is on the 3rd floor following 3 flights of steps outside to get to the front door. But this is Whitby afterall!!!

Lovely clean modern house a short walk to the centre of Whitby. We had 2 cars and didn’t realise only 1 secured spot so just be aware to check where free parking is as it’s a busy town. Would visit again thanks Jane

Great location and facilities Positive: Fantastic location, very modern and comfortable. Great facilities. Negative: Although we read about the stairs, it was difficult to navigate all our luggage up and down them. But certainly good exercise! Outside space could have done with a bit of a clean (bird feathers and droppings).

Parking was advertised as on street away from the property. In the details it did state there were keys to a Parking bollard. It took two phone calls to get the Parking clarified. There is one Parking space at the property.The property has obviously had some thought put in to it however, the garden was full of weeds as was the area around the front door, paint work needed some attention, stains on carpets and the main living room smelt of smoking. The bedding and towels were clean. It had everything you needed for a few night stay.The property is in a good location, central to all amenities, but use the address and not the postcode in the instructions, as this sends you to another location.

Great place to stay - spotlessly clean, centrally located so only a few minutes’ walk into Whitby, comfortable beds and good showers. \n\nOnly improvement would be some curtains to the lounge. The privacy curtain/voile is very sheer and not everyone wants to be looked on by neighbours opposite when unwinding.

Positive: Very clean, modern and nicely decorated. Lovely that a few basics were provided like coffee, tea and dish cloths etc. Owner replied quickly to messages. Excellent location being with 5 mins walk of the centre. Negative: There are quite a few steps to get to the property, this was fine for us but my parents would have struggled. We would definitely visit again though. The positives by far outweighed the steps!

We had a nice stay at Mallard Cottage. A bonus was the allocated parking space and it is ideally located within easy walking distance to the town centre and shops. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were of poor quality and very soft and small. The bathrooms were good and the water pressure was very good. However, some of the grouting and sealant around the showers and bath needs attention and the shower screens had soap marks and mould on them. The lounge/kitchen area was comfortable with a great smart tv. It was well equipped but some of the crockery and pots were not clean and the oven door and trays were dirty. The outside area for the property needs attention. There were weeds in the artificial grass area to the rear and in the paved areas. At the front of the property it was a similar situation in the planted beds and paving. A good tidy up here would make all the difference to first impressions on arrival.

The property was very modern, clean and well presented and in the perfect position for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equiped. We would definitely stay again!

We had a great stay at the property. The house is approximately a five minute walk from the center of Whitby and all it's amenities. The property itself is great for a break at the coast with comfortable bedrooms and a good kitchen and living area. Areas within close walking distance for on street parking if more than one car is present. The host was very responsive and had a great property.

Fab modern house on the edge of Whitby town centre Positive: Location just out of town centre was ideal, we got a car parking spot on the main road next to park and never moved the car again during our stay, House was over 3 floors and all mod cons catered for, we will always look to book here when planning a Whitby trip. Negative: no issues really could do with more kitchen prep space but we ate out mostly so not an issue, if you have mobility issues this is not for you, lots of steps up to property and over 3 floors within.

Mallard Cottage is a really lovely modern property. It is located centrally in Whitby and was nice and quiet when we stayed. I would reiterate what other reviewers have said, that there are lots of steps - up to the property and then 3 flights inside the property as the lounge/kitchen is on the top floor. so ensure you are fit enough to stay at the property. The garden is a nice space to chill out with comfy garden furniture. Would stay again.

Clean, comfortable and excellent location. Positive: Excellent location and very comfortable. Well equipped and finished throughout. Generally very clean, though did find a pair of old pants under the bed! Wouldn’t live here as the amount of steps would get frustrating over time, but for 4 nights it was fine. Would definitely recommend it overall.

Whitby's a lovely place to visit and this was a great apartment to stay in while doing that. Positive: Great location, very close to town centre (but far enough away to be peaceful). Well equipped and laid out apartment (though the town-house style and the location itself did mean quite a few steps to be climbed... Extra exercise thrown in for free!) Negative: Rather too much emphasis on 'breakages' and damage waivers and the like for me... I appreciate these things have to be said but it did make me rather nervous/paranoid about the stay!

Lovely property, comfortable, and great location with the town centre, train station, beach, and parks just a short walk away. Kitchen well stocked but no cupboard space for your own food etc. There are three flights of stairs to access to property which we didn't see mentioned on the description or photos. We were pleased to find there was a parking space, as the online description describes 'on street parking' and the welcome pack advised parking a few streets away.

Nice property about 5 mins walk from the train station. It is in a quiet location, spread over 3 floors with lounge and kitchen on the top floor. Furnishing were very tasteful. Garden was a very nice bonus. We had issues with car parking allocated space as the security post was damaged so it couldn't be removed. Apart from this we were very pleased with the property.

Positive: The Cottage was modern and it's location was good. Negative: The 40 steps up to the cottage were a surprise to us. It was not acceptable for my 80 year old mother in law. The cottage smelled of weed when we arrived and it took 2 days with every window open to get rid of the smell.

Great place to stay Positive: Overall it was an amazing place to stay. Many stairs so not good for anyone with mobility problems. Negative: The standard of fixtures and fittings very high. Cleanliness high too. Only thing that let it down was the quality of mattresses did not match the rest of quality.

Positive: Central location with bonus of parking space Negative: Living room area not cleaned, scraps of food on floor, dining chairs dirty, grill pan in oven still had foil in it covered in grease 🤢, utensils not cleaned, outside decked and paved area very dirty! Algae covered paving, deck covered in leaves and twigs, glass balcony surround covered in bird droppings, Astro turf covered in weeds , hence did not use which was a shame as weather was beautiful. Key for bin storage area didn’t work.

Great location and a nice modern property.Beds where great and comfy. Kitchen storage was very limited and cupboards overfull of crockery leaving no room to store food.Garden was in need of upkeep. Overall a decent stay which we enjoyed.

Immaculate property in great location 2 mins from train station. The property felt more like a home not a rental, with little touches such as cosy throws pictures & ornaments. Spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, warm & cosy. Lovely bathrooms with powerful showers. Quite a few steps to property & as accommodation is on 3 floors not ideal for anyone with mobility issues but great for us. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic location and lovely stay! We felt right at home and I certainly could have actually lived there permanently! Haha! Nice and clean and modern with a walk to the main part of Whitby just a stone's throw away. We're planning on booking again in the summer. The perfect accommodation!
