The cottage was comfortable and a good location; we walked to centre of town in 10 minutes. We may have been spoiled by other hosts but it lacked nice touches we frequently experience, like a welcome pack. The property was generally very clean although there were some cobwebs and pet hairs on sofa - we’re dog owners but wouldn’t let dogs on seating. We easily found parking on the street and it was a quiet residential road. All in all, we’d recommend and would stay again.

Lovely cottage on the edge of Whitby only a short walk and plenty of parking. There is a steep short hill to walk up as a few reviews have mentioned. Loved the enclosed garden for the dogs, house was spotless and looks just like the photos. Just a few things to note the security deposit is more expensive than advertised on here (maybe the advert needs updating) and there are rules about where the dogs can go in the house which again is not detailed on Airbnb

great stay, cottage had everything we needed, well presented, and handy for town. We managed to park close by which was helpful as street parking gets busy. Useful having front garden with gate so we could leave the front door open to let the dogs out. Would highly recommend the cottage and look forward to visiting again

probably the only downside was that the garden was untidy.needed grass cutting especially if going with dogs.might b better not having grass if not being maintained.

Lovely, comfortable and clean. Positive: It was a lovely little cottage. Impeccably clean, and really nicely decorated. The location was perfect, just a 10 minute walk into Whitby town centre. Really quiet area, and we were able to park on the road right outside the cottage, which was really good. The kitchen was stocked with all the plates, utensils, etc that we needed. There was also free WiFi, even though it says on Booking.com that there isn’t WiFi. Really spacious bathroom, we loved the big shower. Bed was really comfortable. We would definitely stay again. Negative: The garden, although brilliant for our dogs, was a bit scruffy. Could do with a bit of a tidy up, and the hedge was so overgrown that the gate wouldn’t open properly. So, trim the hedge, mow the lawn, pull the weeds, and the garden would be as perfect as the cottage.

Lovely home, but since they allow dogs. Downstairs was just a no go for us. Wet dog isn't a pleasant smell at all. Specially when you don't own dogs yourself. Upstairs was more manageable. However even though it's against the rules, the bedroom blankets stunk like wet dog. It's a shame really, other than that. Happy. But the dog owners are what brings this listing down. Also felt like the price was pretty high.

Great little house, perfect location, nice and quiet and only a 10 minute walk to the hustle and bustle of Whitby town, loved the fact you had a secure garden for our dog. Thanks for letting us stay we'll certainly be back sometime in the future!

The location of the Airbnb is brilliant to explore Whitby and the surrounding areas. We had no problem finding free parking on the road, and it was an easy walk to the sights in Whitby. The enclosed garden was brilliant for our dog Chipper. The main bed was very comfortable and the shower was lovely. Plenty of hot water! We would recommend a stay here to others, but do have a couple of points of constructive feedback: Although the listing said kitchen basics would be provided, we couldn’t find any oven gloves or cooking oil, which would have been helpful. The heating system was also quite noisy, which stopped us having a perfect night sleep.

Whitby is fabulous! Our stay at hope cottage was very relaxing in a peaceful street. It was great that we could stay with our two little dogs. The garden at the front of the house was secure and handy. The house was lovely and warm. My husband enjoyed the large hot shower. We had everything we needed. We ate out so didn’t use the cooker or dishwasher but all the cooking equipment was available. The decor was cute and we were comfortable and cosy. The cottage was nice and clean , the double bed was comfortable with nice fresh bedding. We really enjoyed our little get away and would recommend the cottage to couples with dogs. ❤️❤️❤️

We had a lovely and comfortable two nights stay at this property. It was very well decorated, modern and clean and had everything we needed. We really appreciated the enclosed garden for our dog to safely run about in and the property is in walking distance to the harbour where there are shops, restaurants and attractions. I would definitely book again and would recommend a stay here.

Great house for a couple or small family. Good, quiet location in walking distance of the main part of town. Though it's street parking we were able to park right outside the property. The house was clean including the kitchen and bathroom with dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid etc all supplied. There were a few dusty corners in the house so it could probably benefit from a deep clean. Enough stuff in the kitchen for basic cooking. The hosts communicated really well, however they did tell me to go outside of Airbnb to their site to fill in a form and pay a deposit for breakages, however I asked to keep everything in Airbnb and that was fine - I didn't pay any extra deposit.

We have just returned from a weekend break, on arrival the cottage was lovely and clean & welcoming (although my only gripe was the heating is a hive heating system and it would have been nice to walk into some warmth - it was freezing and took the full day to warm up- but that’s me being really picky!) the walk to shops and restaurants was as described a 10 minute walk away, overall we had a lovely peaceful stay, parking wasn’t a problem we parked outside on the road all weekend. The king size bed was so comfortable (my hubby tried having a look at the make to buy one!) the bathroom was lovely and the shower was 10/10.

Great little place but needs some things attending to. Positive: The property was lovely and clean. It was well equipped and had a really good shower. The double bedroom was very comfortable. Negative: The front lawn was messy and there were cigarette butts on the concrete by the window. The bed in the single room was incredibly squeaky, my daughter had to sleep on the pull out bed which meant she had no floor space. Also there was no facility for recycling.

We had a wonderful stay here! Brilliant property for a small family looking for a cosy place to stay all within walking distance of Whitby centre. We had a slight issue with the postcode not taking us directly to the property but soon found it once we had a quick look on maps. All in all I would definitely recommend staying here if you want to be able to walk into the centre (5 min walk) but far enough out so it’s peaceful as well.

Negative: Parking wasent very easy when we arrive had to park down hill from property hard work getting cakes AS 74 with arthritis etc

Lovely cottage in a great location. Positive: The cottage was lovely and in a great location, a short walk from the harbour area. Well maintained bright cottage with nice decor, also with a small enclosed front garden which was very handy for our dog. We managed to park on the street outside for the duration of our stay. All very comfortable. Very accessible to Whitby beach and attractions. Also a short drive along the coast is Robinhood Bay which was a pretty village (steep walk down to the beach) - we really enjoyed a 10 mile circular walk along the cliff tops to Ravenscar and back along the Cinder Trail - fab walk, the first half is fairly strenuous with a lot of up and down steps, but worth it for the amazing views. Negative: The single room bed was comfortable but noisy!-could do with being upgraded. Front garden could do with a little more TLC.

Great little house, could do with a freshen up. Positive: The location is great. The house is a perfect size. The master bedroom decor is lovely. We were lucky with parking and got parked close with no issues. Negative: The house felt a bit tired, it needed a freshen up. The master bed was uncomfortable and creaked every time you moved.

The house is in a lovely situation, just a 5 minute walk into town. The issue is that it needs a bit of updating and the back of the house has no windows, so come mid afternoon it is cold and gloomy, which is why l think there is a musty aroma.

Terrible Negative: There was dust webs all over the place the pans were rusty the kettle did not work. And to sum it up when my wife got in to bed ther was a piece of glass in it which cut her leg

Great location for the beach and shops but we were not impressed with the cleanliness Positive: The location of the property was close to the beach Negative: It wasn’t clean, the high chair and travel cot were dirty, there were used cotton buds on the bin upon our arrival, there was no hand wash in the bathroom. My partner had to unblock the shower as it was overflowing.

10/10 for location! Definitely think the place given its family run, needs a bit of sprucing up in places. But a good house for a few days getaway and the parking was rifht outside the house

The cottage has character and we had been looking forward to our stay, but unfortunately it fell considerably short of the impression given by the listing and photographs. The property felt much smaller than the photographs suggested and, in our view, they do not accurately reflect its current condition. The cottage is now quite tired, with noticeable wear and tear to the walls, doors, paintwork, furnishings and general décor. Our biggest concern was the very strong musty/damp smell throughout the cottage. We repeatedly aired the property, but the smell persisted and was strong enough to transfer onto our clothes and belongings. This significantly affected our comfort during the stay and is something we believe needs investigating rather than simply being attributed to the age of the property. The standard of cleanliness was also disappointing. While the main surfaces appeared to have received a basic clean, there was built-up dust and dirt around and behind furniture and in corners

Unfortunately, the property was not in an acceptable condition for us to stay in. On arrival, we found it to be dirty, unkempt and clearly not properly prepared for incoming guests. Most concerningly, the beds had not even been made, which raises serious concerns about whether the property had been adequately cleaned or the bedding changed following the previous guests. Externally, the property is also considerably more shabby and poorly maintained than we anticipated from the listing. However, we were prepared to overlook the external appearance as our main requirement was very simple: a clean, hygienic and comfortable environment in which we could rest and sleep. Unfortunately, the property has failed to provide even that basic standard. This is not a matter of personal preference or the property simply not meeting our expectations aesthetically; cleanliness and properly prepared sleeping arrangements are fundamental requirements of any paid accommodation.

Disgusting bed linen. Full refund was provided by Airbnb after photographic evidence was provided. We left the property after pulling back the bed sheets and finding numerous stains and hair all over the bedding.

We had a great stay. The cottage was well presented, cosy and clean. A lovely modern bathroom and also comfortable bedrooms and clean linen. Hope Cottage is perfectly located a short 10-15min walk away from the centre down a short steep hill with lovely views. It was a little tricky to find but we had no trouble finding parking once we had.

Nice quiet location, did not have to move our car , as 10 minute walk to the town. Enclosed garden ideal for our dog to wander in and out.

The cottage was in a great location, easy walkable distance to the centre of Whitby. First impressions of the cottage inside was that it was clean however, there was a general odour of dog, dust and cobwebs in the corners of the living room. The fridge could have done with a little wipe over before new guest arrive as there was dry flaky milk in the corners of the door compartments The upstairs did not match the downstairs. The bathroom and both bedrooms were immaculate, beautiful decorated and the beds were so comfortable. I would recommend this property only for the location.

Whitby is a great place to stay, but sort out the garden!! Positive: Comfortable small cottage with decent facilities to make our week-long stay comfortable. Very close to Whitby centre & easily walkable to all the attractions. We were also lucky to have great weather. We really enjoyed Whitby. Negative: The wee garden was really unkempt & the hedge so overgrown you actually had to duck to get in. Pity, as it is a nice, private space to sit out if it it had a bit more attention.

First impressions of this property lead to a disappointing stay. The hedge was very tall and overgrown making it difficult to open the gate . The lawn and garden untidy and the properties windows have not been cleaned in a very long time. Inside first impressions were that the property was superficially clean but the shower was mouldy , sofas and soft furnishings stained and the kitchen floor was sticky and unwashed. A general odour of dog could not be masked by the numerous air fresheners in the property . There is thick dust in every corner and lots of cobwebs. The host was apologetic offering to send a cleaner but the house needs a deep clean as it is showing signs of neglect . I would not recommend this property.

Great location Positive: Great location, being close to town harbour, little front garden for the dog was good. Comfy bed and spacious bathroom. Negative: Windows need a good clean inside and out the garden needs tidying up, the grass is long and weeds are growing over the entrance gate.

Lovely little cottage in a good lovation and only a short walk downhill to the town. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom were modern and well planned. There is no washing machine but for a four nigjt stay this was no problem.if you are elderly or infirm be aware that the stairs are quite steep. The garden is at the front.and up 2 steps. A tall hedge gives some privacy and shade.There is a large Sainsburys a couple of miles away and a large Co oP in town where there are many good seafood restaurants and takeaways. All in all we had a lovely 4 night stay and hope to come again.

Hope Cottage in Whitby was a lovely, cosy cottage. Just as pictured and described. The whole place was clean and nicely decorated. The little garden is cute. The beds were comfortable. The linen and towels all very clean and good quality. Kitchen very well equipped. An extra tea towel would have been useful. There was plenty of teabags, coffee sachets and milk sachets. I was annoyed by the number of messages received from Host & Stay especially the upselling. However that did not ruin my experience and I would book again!

Nice stay for us and our dog for a few days! Close to the centre and parking was not a problem for us!

Great stay 🌟🌟 The location was perfect, just a short walk into town, which made everything really convenient. The house itself felt very homely and comfortable, and we especially appreciated the secure, gated front garden so the dogs could safely go outside. The only addition that would have made the stay even better is a washing machine. We were on a bit of a road trip and, although it was my oversight not checking the listing, it’s the only Airbnb I’ve stayed in without one. It’s not a deal breaker for a short stay, but something worth considering if you’re planning a longer trip.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hope Cottage. The cottage was lovely and comfortable and the area was quiet. It was an easy to walk into Whitby town.There is a hop on hop off Whitby Tour bus which took you round the sights and was informative. Well worth visiting Whitby and would definitely recommend staying at Hope Cottage

5 minute walk into Whitby place clean bed was I tad hard but brilliant place to stay for a couple of days

Property was as discribed, nice little garden to the front. Clean and tidy. A little walk from the main harbour area so you need to be reasonably fit and mobile. The weather was kind to us, always a bonus.

Positive: Location was good - close by town. The beds and room were comfortable. Negative: The directions were incorrect, the link took us to the wrong property, delaying our arrival by 50 mins-1 hour whilst we found a car parking space. By the time we established where the correct property was, there was no parking locally, eventually we found a space.

Lovely time in Whitby, nicely located - quiet and as advertised. Would definitely use again if going back. Added to the charm and enjoyment of the holiday. No complaints - thank you very much

We had a great time staying here in a cute cottage. Quiet location and front garden was a bonus. Comfy beds and lovely new bathroom. Only snags were We found one of the sofas needed replacing and no coffee machine as stated despite pods provided. Overall we would love to return!

The house was lovely, accessible, comfortable and very well presented. There was a very short walk to all amenities including the shops and great fish venues. We are definitely planning on coming back next year!

Cosy cottage with a short walk to the harbour. Very clean house and smelt really nice. My only suggestion would be some anti slip grips on the living room rug but wasn’t a big issue. We will be staying here again.

The cottage was clean and amelt lovely. Free WiFi. The little extra lime tea and coffee and toiletries was a lovely touch. Negative: Sofas were not very comfy however the room doesn't allow big sofas but more comfortable ones would be great.

Great location to Whitby in quiet area although address is hard to find. House was really clean and perfect for what we needed. The single bed is very creaky and would benefit for a couple of extras such as more toilet roll, kitchen roll etc, no hand soap in bathroom… otherwise great stay and would stay again.

I don't think you would be disappointed with the property. We was disappointed with the height of the unkept hedge and garden could be made a lot prettier with some plants.

A lovely little place, 10 minutes walk from the centre of Whitby. Nice layout and more or less everything you could need to use it as a base for exploring the town.

We had a lovely six night stay at Hope Cottage which is an easy walk to Whitby Harbour. It was a welcome surprise to find how quiet it was in the street given it is peak holiday season and we had no trouble parking! A nifty fold out table in the living room and two sofas is all you need and the beds are very comfortable while the bathroom is great with a walk in shower. A pocket garden at the front is also nice to have and overall, we had a really enjoyable stay.

Good location to town. Positive: Location and free parking. Nice bathroom. Negative: Overall cleanliness. General maintenance and upkeep of the house was lacking. Grass needed cutting and path wants weeding, cigarettes from previous tenants were all over the floor outside. Lots of dead flies on the floor, furniture hadn’t been cleaned behind in a long time, strong smell of damp in the kitchen and the upstairs had not been hoovered, I actually had to do it myself. Needs blackout blinds in bedroom.

It's a great little place, perfectly placed. It's walking distance into town, with none of the noise. It would have been top marks if it was not for the extra charges. I would not mind if they were all there, as you pay for the place initially, but they are not. One of the additional costs came up to the same price we paid for the stay.

We had a comfortable stay at Hope Cottage and everything was pretty much as described without any wow factor, it was just OK. The bed mattress was very firm and while the bed was a king size as in the description, the duvet was a standard double which just seems such an obvious and easy thing to rectify, it just seems a lack of care and attention to detail. We stayed in the coldest June week for five years and although the heating kept us warm down stairs, upstairs always seemed cold. The most disappointing aspect was the scruffy state of the garden which did not give a good first impression when we arrived. The grass looked like it has been cut with a strimmer or a blunt pair of shears and the front hedge was very over grown to the extent it was starting to obstruct the gate which is the only access to the property. We did report this to Host and Stay who seem to offer a rather impersonal distant service with bog standard generic messages.

Whitby is such a lovely town to visit - the food, the abbey ruins, and just walking around town. Positive: Self-catering for this cottage. The kitchen was well appointed and we enjoyed preparing our own breakfasts. Negative: It was hard to locate, thankfully some neighbors helped us out. Parking was difficult.
