Honey cottage was situated in a really good location for exploring. It was so easy to walk into Staithes and only a very short drive to Whitby. The gardens were great as they were private and fenced off to keep dogs safe and secure. Unfortunately I felt there was a lot of rules regarding taking a dog but adhered to them although my own dog is used to more freedom within the home. I loved the back garden it was really well thought out and peaceful.

The cottage was in great location for seaside based holiday we needed, small but just right for our needs, great idea to have outdoor shower for the dogs. Lovely decorated courtyard at rear and fenced front garden all secure well equipped kitchen and outside house with freezer and washing machine. Beds comfy and lovely a quiet neighbourhood. Thank you

The cottage was good. Nice to have toiletries and coffee and tea. Not the best location for evenings. Unless you got car
Positive: Very pretty. Ideal with enclosed outside for our dog.
Negative: TV wasn’t great reception. Not a lot to do in evenings. Ended up watching TV.

Positive: We liked the location of the cottage and it was easy to check in.
Negative: Unfortunately the bedding was dirty, it had dog prints on and mud and dog hair. We put the spare sheets on that we're in the cupboard but they had holes in and were dusty and did not smell fresh. We messaged the hosts who said that they would send someone round the next day to provide clean sheets, however nobody turned up. This was frustrating because we were in waiting and expecting someone to come round. We were told that the customer service team would contact us within 10 working days after we put in a complaint, however after 18 days we have no heard back from them.

Positive: Location is great, in between a number of great places to explore.
Negative: A few small issues with the property:
bathroom light inadequate
drinks shelf in fridge has a broken hook which renders it useless
linen and blankets had dog hair on them, with a slight smell of wet dog

Cosy little cottage
Positive: Very cosy. Good location to explore the area.
Enclosed front and rear garden which is good for small dogs.
Wood burner with fuel provided.
Negative: The grill didn't work on the cooker and it really just needs replaced. Bathroom is dark and very restricted in size.

Lovely cottage - booking NOT as advertised.
Positive: We had a lovely stay in honey cottage. Very Good location. Very cosy cottage and was clean. Had a lovely walk around runswick bay and staithes. Walking distance to the badger hound which was a lovely pub and restaurant which was dog friendly.
Negative: When i purchased this holiday booking.com advertised it as free cancellation and pay month before. After booking I got a message from host and stay requesting 25percent deposit upfront and full payment 75 days before arrival. On booking. Com there was no mention of a damage waver however as host and stay policy I had to pay a non refundable £25 fee or pay refundable £200 not returned for 14 days with a £10 admin free. This is so wrong as these term should be quoted on the booking prior to making the booking. A damage waiver is incase of breakage yet either way we had to pay £10 or £25 and why would it take 14 days to return? Just another way of charging more money DISGUSTING.
On a lighter note it Needed more basic necessities in the house such as scrubbers, more than one tea towel, kitchen roll, salt and pepper

Honey Cottage a warm, cosy and characterful. It was very clean and well appointed and I loved the patio garden. A very good base for exploring local beaches. Our dog and a lovely time and so did we!

Last minute short break, we’d stay again
Positive: Cosy cottage, very comfortable. Just the right size for us and our two dogs
Negative: Nothing

Honey cottage is a beautiful little cottage on the North Yorkshire coast, perfect for dogs with Runswick Bay a pleasant 20- 30 minute walk away.
The buses were a great success, pick up just outside made a day in Whitby with our dog so easy.
There is no shop in the village so be sure to bring stocks with you.

Fab little cottage in a quiet, relaxed location that’s perfect for a short break.
Positive: The cottage was really homely and cosy and the perfect size for us and our little dog.
The location was really good as it provided the perfect base for exploring the surrounding areas.
It had everything you needed in terms of kitchen equipment and the patio area in the back was secure and really private. It also included a dog washing tap out the back which was really handy after being at the beach.

We loved Honey Cottage! It’s a perfect stay for two, and so convenient for Whitby, Runswick Bay and Staithes! We had everything we needed in the kitchen and the outdoor space was so pretty and surprisingly spacious!

Ideal cottage for short stay.
Positive: Ideal for short stay and close to the coast. Very cosy and has all you need. Parking space was handy.
Negative: Ideal for two people but the dining area would be a bit cramped if anymore staying.

Negative: Low ceilings! My partner is 6ft 3 🙈😂

Wonderful little cottage in a fantastic location to explore nearby towns like Robin Hoods Bag and Sandsend.
A cute and cosy living room with a wood burner to keep it nice and toasty on the cold coastal evenings.
My partner, dog and I all had a fantastic time and we would definitely stay here again in the future if it was available.

Lovely quaint little cottage. Exactly as described. All the essentials and comfort needed for a break away.
Single parent, travelling with teen, child & the dog - was plenty of room, lovely private rear courtyard, secure front garden for the dog (the bench is placed in the best sun trap). Off street parking.
Lovely added little extras, soap, toiletries, tea coffee & treats for the dog. Made it all feel that little bit special. Thanks for a lovely stay. Will definitely return.

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was very cosy and our 5 year old daughter enjoyed exploring all the quirky spaces.
It’s in a lovely location and in easy reach to explore Whitby and the surrounding coastline.

Although space was slightly smaller than anticipated in the photos the cottage is cute and quaint and in a peaceful location. Great accessibility to walks along the Cleveland way. More attention to detail with cleaning could be made and the mattress in the second bedroom was in poor condition. Great value for money.

Great communication and very responsive host, the property is so nice and feels so homely, a viry nice place to stay. Good location especially if you like to go walking. Highly recommended.

Great little cottage, lovely location to walk to Runswick Bay or Staithes. Good pubs with food.
Positive: Although the property is quiet small it had everything you needed and more. Having the lovely courtyard at the back and bench at the front was great, we could catch the sun anywhere. Only a short walk to 2 pubs. The food in the Badger Hound was lovely, ate there both nights. Great walk to Runswick Bay along the cliff tops.
Negative: Nothing to do with the cottage it was great. What I didn't like was Host & Stay making me either pay £30 for 'breakage' insurance or having to pay a large deposit for damages which I would get back in 14 days minus £10 admin fee. I think this is a rip off and makes me question whether i will book another Host & Stay which is a shame as the ones i have booked have been lovely.

Wonderful stay at Honey cottage. Just perfect location with lots of walks nearby. Cottage was a perfect size for myself as a solo traveller with my dog but would also be ideal for couples. Location is perfect if wanting easy access to walks and beaches.
Check in was easy and the dog treats were a lovely surprise.
Would absolutely come back anytime.

Beautiful.
Positive: Beautiful cottage. VERY clean with everything you could want for your stay. Lovely comfortable beds with fluffy pillows....best few nights sleep ive had in a long time !! Lovely location, ideal as a base for exploring the surroundings. We loved that there was a notebook in a drawer that some guests have written in, it was lovely reading what they had written on where to go and what to do., places to eat etc. We took their advice and had wonderful meals out locally.....just a small idea that made a huge difference....and the owners stay periodically and read the book too which is lovely. They take note and look into any suggestions made by guests and write their own comments in their too.
All directions and entry instructions were spot on.
Negative: Not saying I didint like it...but a suggestion i made was the seating area out the back could benefit from somekind of sun/rain cover....in my opinion....but this is by no means any kind of complaint !!!

We stayed at Honey Cottage for 3 nights. Very easy to find and very quiet for being on a main road!! Lovely little cottage just right for 2 and a small door. Front garden is fenced and gated - ideal for dogs. Back garden/yard was so cute and would be lovely in the summer. All essentials in the kitchen with added bonus of a small dishwasher. Smart TV worked without any issues. Bed and pillows very comfy. Bathroom was small but the shower was very hot!!
Easy access down to Whitby and up the coast to Saltburn. We would definitely stay again.

Pretty cottage, very small and unfortunately without WiFi during our stay, but in a great location for exploring the coast.

Great location for getting out & about & super cute tiny cottage. Would stay again
Positive: Brilliant location for visiting all the neighbouring towns- bus service into sandsend & whitby on the doorstep & Only £3. Lovely walk down to runswick bay. Nothing in hinderwell itself & the local pubs a bit shabby/limited menus.
Property itself teeny & cute, adequate secure space outside front & back for dogs (will bring the dog next time if we revisit)
Lots of extra towels and bedding if needed. We needed to pull the trundel under the single bed out for my little boy, found a spare sheet etc wasn't easy to get back under so had to leave out
Negative: No space to store dry food as the only shelf contains the crockery- cupboards filled with pans etc
Crockery needed cleaning prior to using- guessing not checked by housekeeping? Generally clean but could be better- a house that small should be immaculate imo including corners and under beds - contact lens found stuck to the bath.
Oven tricky to work but sussed in the end- just needed to set the clock- clear instructions were sent after this issue was raised so not a complaint but best putting in the arrival instructions.
TV & wifi didnt work despite very simple instructions, luckily we were out for the most of it anyway.
Little things like replacing batteries in fairy lights- making sure tea & coffee stocked up, salt & pepper & a list of local taxi numbers would be good but thats just my opinion being a housekeeper myself.

Lovely stay in a lovely cottage, thank you.
Positive: N/A
Negative: We loved staying here - we have stayed before and so knew what to expect.
The only thing to be aware of - is that you will have to pay an additional fee for accidental damage insurance - which I wasn't sure is because we took our dog with us - but there wasn't an option to not pay this. It's not a huge amount, but to be aware that you will need to pay it.

Honey cottage is located perfectly! You have access to buses practically outside the door taking you to Whitby in one direction, or as far as Middlesbrough in the other. There are many walks available to do from the doorstep and the Cleveland Way coastal path is a short distance away - we started at Runswick bay walking to Staithes on one of our days and Sandsend and Whitby on others, there’s always the bus home for weary legs.
The cottage is just as described and has everything you need. It is small but perfectly proportioned for a cosy cottage feel. It was just perfect for two of us, but if you don’t mind being cosy it does accommodate more!
We would definitely return here as it’s a fabulous base in Hinderwell! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Worthwhile Staying
Positive: Location is very good for travelling the area. The cottage was perfect for 2 adults and our dog, maybe small if you have a few children. Excellent TV with sky sports, comfortable bed, good front garden with parking.
Negative: Found the bathroom a little awkward as the shower was small for me (6'2) with the slope ceiling, wife managed fine (5'4). The back yard was poor for our stay as there were to many insects around the back door boarding on an infestation and opening the door allowing them in. They were harmless beetles and could be down to local farming but worth mentioning i think in case anyone else doesn't like situations like it.

Lovely place to stay and the cottage was great. I’d like to say that above all the owner, David, was responsive, helpful and quick to sort out the problem of a power cut when we arrived. He was very apologetic and reimbursed us for the inconvenience, without prompting. Host & Stay however were less than helpful - on contacting them in the first instance they sent me a very generic message and then failed to respond to my reply, simply sending me an automated message asking me how my check in went. I had an apology from another member of the H&S team the next morning but by then I’d already sorted the issue by liaising with David and a neighbour. In contrast to the personal and helpful response I got from David - who I only managed to contact after being given the number by the very helpful neighbour, Host & Stay’s service was poor. I don’t have a bad word to say about the cottage or about David, which we’re both great - Host & Stay however were less than satisfactory.
