The area

Hinderwell is a delightful village located perfectly half way between the seaside towns of Whitby and Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Perfect for exploring the coastline and also the North York Moors National Park, it’s a great base for exploring North Yorkshire.

Head just a a mile in either direction and you’ll be in the stunning coastal villages of Runswick Bay and Staithes. Renowned for their fishing traditions, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time in these charming spots.

Take a trip to Whitby and you’ll be able to enjoy the Blue Flag West Cliff beach, an abundance of mediaeval, narrow streets, fish restaurants, and arcades.

At the Victorian town of Saltburn, you can take the oldest functioning cliff lift in the UK down to the 208-metre pier which stretches out into the sea. Colourful boutique beach huts and high cliffs tower in the distance.

Hinderwell has great bus links. Hop on the X4 bus route and you can visit many popular destinations such as Whitby and Saltburn, and if you’re after some retail therapy, stay on board to visit Middlesbrough.

The closest train station to Hinderwell is located in Whitby and it’s a short 20-minute drive from Honey Cottage. From Whitby there are regular routes to Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Newcastle, along with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway which runs to the market town of Pickering along a beautiful 25 mile route.

“We stayed at Honey Cottage for 3 nights. Very easy to find and very quiet for being on a main road!! Lovely little cottage just right for 2 and a small door. Front garden is fenced and gated - ideal for dogs. Back garden/yard was so cute and would be lovely in the summer. All essentials in the kitchen with added bonus of a small dishwasher. Smart TV worked without any issues. Bed and pillows very comfy. Bathroom was small but the shower was very hot!! Easy access down to Whitby and up the coast to Saltburn. We would definitely stay again.”

“Honey cottage is located perfectly! You have access to buses practically outside the door taking you to Whitby in one direction, or as far as Middlesbrough in the other. There are many walks available to do from the doorstep and the Cleveland Way coastal path is a short distance away - we started at Runswick bay walking to Staithes on one of our days and Sandsend and Whitby on others, there’s always the bus home for weary legs. The cottage is just as described and has everything you need. It is small but perfectly proportioned for a cosy cottage feel. It was just perfect for two of us, but if you don’t mind being cosy it does accommodate more! We would definitely return here as it’s a fabulous base in Hinderwell! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.”
