Had a lovely stay in this gorgeous house The living area was perfect for a social holiday The bedrooms were fabulous with a bathroom for each , which is very hard to find The location was perfect :A 10 mins walk into Whitby and to top it a super Chippy just on the same road If you are going with family or friends I couldn't recommend it enough The communication was brilliant, I messaged a couple of times to ask questions and the response was almost immediate Thanks for having us We loved our stay

We loved this accommodation. It’s perfect for a group stay, we came for a surprise trip for our dad’s Birthday. We all had our own bathrooms per double bedroom and a toilet downstairs. We haven’t found many affordable accommodations that have this. The open plan downstairs made it so we could all spend the evening together. Location was perfect, away from the centre so no noise but just a short walk away. Our son loved playing out in the courtyard, will be perfect in the warmer months to sit out with a drink. We will be back!

Good location...but minor issues need addressing Positive: The location of this property is great, very central only a 10 minute walk into Whitby. The property is spacious enough we were a group of 6 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 dogs. All the bedrooms had their own ensuites/bathrooms which is very handy for a big group. Negative: The double mattress in the 4th bedroom on the 2nd floor is awful the springs have gone and the bed sinks in the middle...very uncomfortable (we resorted to sleeping on the sofa) the plumbing/pipework also needs some attention the kichen tap makes a terrible noise and leaks water everytime someone uses the toilet or taps upstairs...plus the hot & cold taps are the wrong way around!! The property only has 1 parking space which if there is a group of you its likely you have more than 1 car and in the Summer months finding anywhere nearby to park is a nightmare. The nearest carpark is 10-15min walk away and costs £9. Stains on the lounge carpet - a good deep clean would be good.

Really lovely house in a perfect location to wander into Whitby. It was really clean and modern, all the rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfy. The only thing would be one parking space for a house that can have four or more couples isn’t ideal, as finding spaces away from the property isn’t easy. Obviously this isn’t something the hosts can change but it does need to be thought of when booking if any guests may struggle.

me , hubby , 2 sons and girlfriends had a great stay at Whitby Positive: We liked the location , it was 5 mins walk into the centre of Whitby very convenient. The beds were very comfy , with nice clean bedding. We liked the fact that 3 bedrooms were en suite , there was a downstairs toilet too. The only cooking we did was to make bacon sandwiches on the Saturday and Sunday morning so cant really comment on the cooking side. We had some nice meals out , White Horse and Griffin and Abbey Wharf and visited lots of nice pubs. Negative: There was a terrible smell when we entered the property , smelt like mucky and damp , we opened all windows and doors , think the source of it was the mucky mop and bucket left in kitchen, put it outside and smell went. The carpets especially the lounge had lots of stains on it , its about 10ft square , would cost a couple of hundred quid to replace. The sofa also had stains on it . The lounge area is not big enough if there are 8 adults , there were 6 of us and it was a squash. The bedrooms had no drawers or wardrobes, 3 of the bedrooms had a small rail with a few coathangers on them , could have done with a lot more hangars, looked in shops in whitby to buy some but couldnt find any . We think there could have at least been drawers at the sides of the bed. Fortunately we had a spare bedroom so we was able to put our bags etc in there, one of my sons and girlfriends lived out of their bags. We stayed in this house 4/5 years ago and feel it really needs a bit of TLC, perhaps a lick of paint and some deep cleaning. All in all we had a great time in Whitby and would probably stay there again if a few minor improvements are made. If it was my property i think just a few minor adjustments would make it so much better !

lovely place perfect location will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Whitby Positive: close to town 10 minute steady walk, less than 5 minute walk for pub. every room was spotless. lovely open plan kitchen, lounge ideal for a group stay. Negative: I don't like putting anything negative about this place, but at a push an extra tea towel would have been ideal, very hard to find any faults.

Good base for a short stay in Whitby, with all the facilities needed for a group of friends. Positive: Modern, clean accommodation, 10 minutes walk from town centre. Each bedroom has its own bathroom so good place to stay for group of friends. Large dining room table for breakfast. Negative: There is little storage or hanging space in the bedrooms. Could do with a refresh of paint here and there. Only one parking space so other cars need to be parked in pay car park 5 minutes walk away at cost of £9 per day.

Lovely place to stay, few issues though. Like some said in previous write ups finding the cuttlery draw was a challenge. Maybe better labels on the draw itself would have helped, as its hidden above a draw containing every saucepan you could imagine.. so we also used the plastic cuttlery, and had to go in search in the local supermarkets for a bottle opener. Then we found the drawer... Also there isnt enough seating in the lounge to accomodate 6-8 adults, and the chairs in the kitchen are uncomfortable. So seating everyone was an issue. But other than that the accomodation was clean and well presented, ideally located for visiting Whitby.

Lovely house - bedrooms and bathrooms are of a good standard. Close to centre and some nice pubs and bars for food. Wo Positive: Lovely bedrooms and bathrooms Negative: Dirty settee and dirty grill. Also the kitchen floor needed a good clean tiny rear seating for a house to sleep 8

Great location Positive: Arrived to a broken kettle and fishy smell, reported Monday, quick response to messages but slow action - new kettle arrived Wednesday. Beds were comfy. Lack of storage (no draws for clothes) which was a challenge for a weeks stay. Kitchen could do with some more cups/pint glasses etc for a house that sleeps 8. Great location slightly out of town so quiet but with town/pub/restaurants/shops within easy walking distance

Positive: There was 8 of us and we all had our own bathrooms or showers. The beds were clean and comfortable. Plenty of seating in the lounge and dining area. Negative: The walls were dirty. There was digdirt left just outside the patio door. The dishwasher didn't work so we had to wash everything again by hand. We found very dirty pans in the cupboards and had to wash everything before we used it. The outdoors seating cushions were left out so we're wet and covered in bird muck.

Great location, comfortable stay. Positive: Great location, and mostly a very comfortable clean property. Subject to the comments below, I’d have no hesitation in recommending it. Just a short walk into Whitby centre, 10 minutes, but far enough out if you like a peaceful night. Negative: Top floor front bedroom is in desperate need of a new mattress. We literally had to put pillows into the dips to get as comfy a nights sleep as we could. This complaint seems to have been raised on many reviews for quite some time, and given most people will have opted to pay the £50 non refundable security deposit, you’d like to think the issue would have been dealt with before now,along with replacing the badly stained lounge carpet. Also would benefit from some cleaning products, washing up sponge etc, and some oven gloves. Property sleeps 8 but not sufficient seating, or parking.

enjoyed the stay at Hogarth's everything was as per details The house was perfect for a mixed group of ages from adult to infants very private and quiet apart from the seagulls in the morning ;-) perfect location for all within walking distance to main Harbour and all other main points of interest. Albeit the house accommodates up to eight people only one car park space but a public car park within a ten minute walk and is reasonable price for 24 hour parking would certainly recommend this Airbnb and very responsive hosts for all queries

Lovely little house perfect for two families of four with children aged 8-13. En suite bedrooms were a plus point. Loved the walk to all the shops and sights. I would stay here again!

Great family holiday with the grandchildren would stay here again. Positive: The location was a little further out than we usually stay but the house was lovely with an outside area to relax in on a night. The beds were very comfortable and it was peaceful. It was a fantastic holiday. We were 3 adults and 4 children. Negative: Nothing at all

Few minor issues but overall a great stay. Positive: Great place to stay, great location. Only used one bedroom as other family members couldn’t make it. Has everything you’d need. Negative: A few things that could be sorted out. One of the bathrooms had a bit of damage round the bath, the living room carpet could be changed as it has quite a lot of marks. Iron board was broken. But all minor things that didn’t really affect our stay as it was only a place to sleep really.

A lovely place with plenty of space for groups or larger families. All appliances and amenities worked well, and no issues with hot water even with multiple people using showers. Good location with just a short walk into the main town area, but peaceful and private.

Positive: The property was very clean and well presented. It was very spacious and accommodated 6 people and too pets easily and comfortably Negative: There wasn't anything to dislike

Great house in a superb location, a 5 minute walk from town. The Abbey was really close by too. The house was clean, tidy and perfect for the 7 of us and one dog. If all Host and Stay properties are like this you won’t go wrong.

LOVED our little getaway this week. 2 families of 4 with children ranging from 7 to 14. Great sized rooms with ample bathroom space with a bathroom for each bedroom. Towels included- great quality as well as great quality bedding too. Excellent kitchen area with tea, coffee, milk, dishwasher tabs and everything else you could need. We cooked basic foods while there- everything worked as it should. Furnished enough so we had everything we needed, included bed-side light in each room, but sparsely enough not to be cluttered. Great finish on everything. Water pressure good all over the house- in all bathrooms. Good wifi connection. Will definitely book again- amazing price for the location and facilities too. One minor drawback is the check-out time at 10am seems very early as check in isn’t until 4pm. 11am would be more comfortable but this didn’t impact on my 5* score rating. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Fabulous holiday in a beautiful home. Positive: Having read some of the previous reviews we were prepared to feel a bit disappointed…but this house is just beautiful! Every bed is extremely comfortable, quality hotel standard. All bathrooms feel really luxurious, gorgeous complimentary toiletries. Lovely kitchen and lounge area, all immaculate! Kitchen well equipped with everything you could ever need. Quiet location. During our stay we learned that Hoggarth Yard is a development on the site of the old Hoggarth lemonade factory. A lovely holiday in a very well looked after home. Highly recommend. Negative: There is nothing not to like. If there is any comment at all to make here, the kitchen could do with a few more tumbler type glasses, but that’s about it.

Great location for a stay in Whitby, easy walk into the town itself along the waterside for the most part. Modern, three storey, comfortable house, decorated in a contemporary style. Good for couples or family. We were 7 adults and we could all be accommodated to dine together, but we couldn't all fit together on the sofa (to watch a film, say). TV all streaming, no traditional terrestrial channels (that we could find). Good secure, easy access parking for one vehicle. Would suggest that if you have a longer stay (ours was 3 nights), you are likely to find that bedroom/clothes storage is limited. Quiet, private courtyard-style area, peaceful surroundings.

Our family get together in beautiful Whitby Positive: The house was lovely and in an ideal location. The en-suite bedrooms made us feel as though we were in a hotel. The beds were really comfortable and the house warm and cosy. Negative: Car parking was limited for a two car family. Only one parking space but car parks nearby were recommended by the host. The house(s) in the complex were new and space was utilised for accommodation so very little space for parking. It got really busy as tenants were dropping off at the same time.

A brilliant house for six adults. Three ensuite rooms and a brilliant social dining and living space downstairs. The walk into town was about 10 minutes passing a couple of pubs on the way.

on the whole not a bad place, great location. the issues were general maintenance and cleanliness of certain areas.

Ruined by Host& Stay Negative: The lock was broken on the front door and I was not informed until I arrived at the property. The lock couldn’t be repaired or replaced on the day of arrival, the maintenance guy visited the property on at least 3 occasions that evening. A bolt was fitted to the door and the locks on the patio doors were changed so we could use that as the main exit/entrance. I had to cancel a restaurant reservation as we were unable to leave the property until the bolt was in place. This was not resolved until after 6pm and I contacted Host& Stay and was given conflicting information. The lock was replaced the following day but this did intrude on our stay/plans. I have contacted Host&Stay to make a formal complaint and they have not responded. I am not impressed with their customer service at all and the lack of concern for the position we were put in.

Shaky start with dirty dishwasher contents, tap was loose but fixed straight away. Accommodation was a good size, good layout and location was perfect.

Negative: The front door key was very stiff to get into the lock and turn. On arrival 1st thought it was the wrong key

The house was as described with everything that you might need. The location was super, just a 5-10 min walk to the town but far enough away to be peaceful. The hosts communication and welcome was excellent. I would definitely recommend and return.

We had a fantastic stay at this lovely Whitby accommodation. The space was incredibly roomy, with a comfortable couch and a small outdoor area perfect for relaxing. Everything was spotless, and the beds were very comfortable, ideal after walking all day! The location struck a great balance: peaceful and tucked away, yet only about a 10-minute walk to the heart of the action, with the waterfront basically outside the front door. There's also a pub and shop conveniently nearby. Our host was friendly and helpful, even when we couldn’t find the cutlery drawer (entirely our mistake!). The check-in and check-out process was smooth, and thoughtful extras like washing-up liquid and dishwasher tablets were provided, making the stay easier. We’d definitely stay again! 😊

We had a great stay in the property. The open plan kitchen is great for socialising and the amount of bathrooms is a bonus. The property is in a great location with a short walk into the centre. Would recommend.

Overall nice property just requires a few minor details like more refuse sacks, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, we couldn't find the cutlery draw but Dale responded straight away, the kettle didn't work but again a minor detail, it didn't spoil our weekend

Good location to enjoy Whitby Positive: All bedrooms with bathrooms Negative: Not enough seating downstairs for the number of people. Kitchen utensils could be cleaner, plus need more drinking glasses

The place was not prepared before we got there as it seems like they had new carpet laid in the lounge area and it was not cleaned/hoovered afterwards and all the furniture in the lounge were stacked up on each other so we had to put them back in place, we also hoovered the carpet and the rest of the downstairs area and clean some of the kitchen drawers. It was disappointing that we had to do all that work after paying all that money for cleaning fee and also after a very long drive to get there. The house is a nice place and suited our needs but the sloppy cleaning let it down.

A really nice stay! Positive: I had a really nice stay! The space was perfect, with plenty of room for everyone to spread out and be comfortable. It was exactly what we needed, and everything was clean and well-maintained. I would definitely book again in the future! My only suggestion would be to provide actual cutlery, as the plastic utensils weren't ideal. Otherwise, a great experience!

Great location, away from the busier side of Whitby. A lovely walk along the river to access Whitby centre and the Abbey.

It was ok but property needs some attention. Wouldn’t book with Host and Stay again. Positive: Good location. Short walk in to the centre of Whitby. Liked the fact that each bedroom had its own bathroom. Negative: Lounge carpet had horrid stains on. One of the beds had broken springs and couldn’t be slept on. The baking trays were dirty and very stained - need replacing I didn’t like the fact that 7 days prior to arrival, Host and Stay try and get more money from you for damages. There was no mention of this when booking.

Whitby is always a good place to stay, location was O.K. Positive: Property was clean, The Rat on the Patio. Negative: NO CUTLERY PROVIDED, apparently been none for Months not good for a self catering stay. Told it was hiding in a Cuboard, it was well hiden because no-one found it on our stay. Only one car parking space.

This could have been an amazing holiday but the negatives made it awful Positive: The location was good. Negative: Where to start ? On arrival it smelt of wet dogs, the living room carpet was absolutely disgusting huge stains, the sofa was stained and stunk of dogs there was dog hair everywhere. The cleaning was terrible , the light shade in the front room had May 24 written in the grime!! In every single bedroom there was evidence of previous occupants , hair scrunchies, sweet wrappers and even a letter warning us about the state of the place left by previous occupants!! ( which if the place had been cleaned we would never have seen it!) The bedrooms did not have any storage space , just a hanging rail in some and not even that in others . No drawers in bedroom to store clothes lived out of suitcase which we were unable to store in the room. The top room at the front had a mattress that was totally kn@ckered. To the point that I thought there were slats missing in the base, the slats were all there but the mattress had collapsed . There was something wrong with the water supply . If anyone ran water anywhere in the house the kitchen tap would start running and wailing like a fog horn . We reported to owners management firm and were told they would get the carpet deep cleaned and to enjoy our holiday! The thing is looking back over the past reviews the same issues were raised last year and have not been addressed including the stained carpet . An expensive and uncomfortable experience. I have come back to edit this review as I left out an important issue. When I was booking I asked if there was a cot and high chair available, I was told that they would make that request. Some weeks later I made contact again to confirm the cot and high chair only to be told that they would ask the owner and eventually contacted me to say neither were available at the premises. By this stage it was too late to change the booking as we were arriving in around a week. I asked for a room to be a twin room, again this was agreed but didn't happen. felt like they had our money, just get on with...

Positive: Modern clean great location. Negative: Faulty shower, loose pipes to roll top bath. No maintenance on a weekend.

Excellent location. Property was spacious. There was a distinct drainage smell on arrival. We had quite a few niggles with basic upkeep, eg loose taps, a mattress needs replacing, a shower not working, sink not draining, unclean oven/hob. If these were sorted my rating would have been much higher.

Nice house, easy to walk into town. However the downstairs area hadn't been vacuumed. The floors and chairs were full of crumbs and a few dog biscuits and we had to mop down the outside table and chairs too before we could use them. There was a dribble of washing up liquid provided, but no other cleaning products, not even a dustpan or broom. Slightly disappointing, as the cleaning fee was listed as £125. One of the TV remote controls was missing...we reported this immediately and were told it would be sorted out the next day, but nothing happened all week. The house was lovely otherwise and the location was great.

Hoggarths Retreat is very well placed for a holiday in Whitby. It has one parking space which is easy for accessibility. The house is warm and comfortable with a small private patio. It is in a quiet spot, peaceful and well equipped.

A pleasant stay, great location, but wouldn’t return to this property. Positive: The location was great. Communication was brilliant. Little touches like tea coffee sugar and milk provided. Toiletries in the bathrooms. Plenty of clean towels. Negative: It’s in desperate need of a thorough deep clean. The oven was dirty, the sofa was grubby and stained, as was the carpet. The bathrooms weren’t cleaned properly. Some of the toilet seats were loose, the tap next to the free standing bath was loose and didn’t really work. The kitchen ceiling needs urgent attention as there must’ve been water damage and has a botched unsightly repair. The smaller bed on the first floor couldn’t be used as the mattress springs are broken. The cords on the blinds in some rooms are broken. The whole place was grubby and needs some tlc.

Lovely break would stay again Positive: Location and size and comfort Negative: Property didn't appear to have been fully cleaned on arrival - there were some newish stains on the carpets - the last occupants tin foil and crumbs remnants were still in the oven so we didn't use that and floors didn't appear to have been completed - having said that beds were lovely and comfy etc and it may have been an issue as originally my arrival time was 7.00 pm and we then brought that forward - although we did inform the host and had confirmation the property would be ready for 4.00 pm

Enjoyed our stay but feel that the house is lacking a little bit of talc Positive: Location was excellent beautiful house with plenty of space and bathrooms Negative: On arrival the house was very cold due to the heating not working, the house was not very clean on arrival all the pots and pans were filthy, the freezer was totally frozen up hence the door wouldn’t shut properly, one of the hairdryers didn’t work.

We had a wonderful time in Whitby and our accommodation was very much a part of the experience . Positive: Breakfast N/A Location was very good. Negative: A couple of niggles. The dishwasher dispenser did not work properly. I could not get the TV working as it should. The heating requires a bit more info as the weather is turning colder.

Positive: It was comfy and well equipped. Lots of bathrooms! Negative: The admin. After booking through booking.com, they have their own booking form and there is a non-returnable £10 admin fee for a returnable deposit or pay a £15 insurance deal. Lots of emails. For a 2 night stay there was 1 dishwasher tablet, and 1 tea towel. No hand towel in the downstairs loo. Hair dryer in my room didn't work. Just seemed too much like hard work to stay there and not particularly welcoming. On day of departure got an email reminding us to go by 10am and saying the cleaner would be round shortly afterwards to check and if we were still there we would be charged extra - really! Have a bit of confidence in your cusomers. We aren't the enemy. I won't be going with this company again - I want to be somewhere for a restful stay.

Really enjoyed it and would happily stay again Positive: The house was well presented and clean location was good (no uphill climb to return)😀 Negative: Nothing per se, however there was a lack of cutlery which if we had wanted to cook and eat in the house would have been a nuisance. Also whilst bedrooms were lovely if we had been staying longer than a few days there was no drawer space for unpacking. Also some pre-existing marks on carpet whilst not an issue meant there was a niggle in case it was thought we made them.

Negative: The parking was a tight squeeze for bigger vehicles like mine. There was a foul smell coming from somewhere in the living room/kitchen area. Couldn’t figure out where from. Other than that, all good

Expected better quality for the price we paid Positive: Location, comfy beds, showers, coffee machine. Negative: Couldn't get hob to work the first night, downstairs area and stairs in desperate need of redecoration, small yard full of weeds and nettles - some at least 5ft high, stains on lounge carpet, filthy light fittings in lounge and had to live out of bags as no drawers in bedrooms.

Great location, great house, great host

Unfortunately we feel we paid over the odds as it clearly needs a deep clean and some general maintenance doing. The photos are obviously from when it was brand new and it’s had a lot of hammering over the years and just not been kept on top of. It would be lovely once it’s had a deep clean and the general maintenance such as repainting of the walls, filling off the cracks and remedying of the leak from the kitchen roof lights. The location is great and all the facilities are there. But unfortunately what ruined our stay was that it clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly when we arrived.

Lovely place to stay, but if a damp problem in the kitchen but didn’t spoil our stay. Only gripe I had was quite a lot of messages with regards to fines for this, that and the other, I never quite felt left alone to enjoy my weekend.

Positive: Location , kitchen facilities, towels and bedding good , comfy beds . Negative: Needed a light bulb at the top of the stairs , a bit dangerous and had to leave a bedroom door ajar for light , Showers in both bathrooms a bit awkard to use .Had problems with the TV channels. Bedroom on 3rd floor bit awkard it has no storage for clothes or space for suitcases . Last morning spotted a small rat in the outdoor space .

Beautiful property in a good location. Just a few niggles that wouldn’t ruin a stay by any means and easily fixed: An information book would be useful, some leaflets etc. A sweeping brush. New lick of paint. Like I say I’m sure by the main holidays these things will of been sorted and then it will be a 5*.

I did think there would have been a welcome pack there was a coffee machine no pods and maybe some milk would have been nice
