A great find Positive: Location, roomy, well equipped (for the most part), comfortable, dog friendly and easy parking. Negative: Complicated heating system , having to unblock the shower drain on day one
Beautiful friendly village with a very welcoming pub just a few doors away. Lovely little area outside to enjoy and the enclosed communal grassed area was great for letting the dogs have a runabout. Cottage was lovely and clean and had everything we needed.
Super spacious and stylish cottage in great location, only marred by some gaps in key information. Positive: Very nice spacious and stylish cottage, superb location in a quiet yard off the green in beautiful Hutton-le-Hole. Excellent pub, bakery / café and folk museum a few steps away. Smart new kitchen (well equipped) and bathroom. Comfortable beds. Useful garden area, great for dogs. Host and Stay were prompt and helpful when we couldn't access the wifi, which is vital here. Negative: Online guide / app with detailed info is a very good idea to make the stay hassle free, but there were important gaps / out of date info, e.g. we couldn't activate or adjust the heating at all, nor find Freeview channels on the TV. The owner was changing the internet / wifi while we were there, without telling us or Host and Stay. Hutton-le-Hole has no phone signal so the wifi is the only way of communcating.
Positive: Location is great, there is a good sized outdoor area for relaxing/dining as well being enclosed for your dog to walk in
Not as relaxing as anticipated due to no secure outdoor space for the dog Positive: Whilst the cottage and location were good there were a few problems encountered. Heating- only the radiator in the living room was on , which was far too warm and couldn’t be turned down. Cold bathroom and bedroom as those radiators couldn’t be switched on. Dog friendly - no secure place to let the dog off the lead as there are gaps around the perimeter( chicken wire not secured) and gaps in the gates. I have a beagle so even with 90% recall she would have been off if she had the scent of something. No dog bowls, blankets etc Digital guide book- could do with instructions on how to use the shower and details for the nearest convenience stores.
A great cottage in a gorgeous village, let down by the hosting service. Positive: The character of the cottages and the surrounding village is stunning. The beds were very comfy, and the bathroom was lovely. Negative: Everything related to the booking service 'Host and stay' was abysmal if I'm honest. Replies often came within an hour, but they were often completely inaccurate or unhelpful, and seemed to be written by a bot. One of the times, Charlie replied saying that a communal space advertised on the listing wasn't available, before following up with the total opposite and hour later. Numerous advertising messages about unrelated discounts and experiences. We arrived to unmade beds because Host and Stay gave the manager the wrong check-in dates. We asked Charlie if the property could be decorated for Christmas and received nothing but "I'll let the owner know right away" for six weeks. This question remained unanswered until we spoke to Sam, the Manager on arrival, who was very helpful and did everything she could to remedy the situation. I'd strongly encourage the owners to find a new hosting service.
Great little cottage for our family of five. Such a cute village and great pub very close by. Beautiful countryside right on the doorstep. Lovely cafes too for us to try. Just a shame that there was a problem with the internet for the entirety of our stay. This would normally not have been an issue for us but with no phone signal, no internet signal and no television it felt a bit impractical and I’m glad we weren’t there for longer - due to this issue.
Perfect accommodation for the three of us one of them being 95....
Lovely stay. Positive: The property was warm and welcoming when we walked through the door. It was clean throughout. Negative: It was great. If anything probably could do with a couple more pans for cooking.
A beautifully renovated cottage featuring excellent off-road parking and exceptionally well-appointed fixtures and furnishings—a magnificent little retreat nestled in a stunning village.
Lovely place, well thought out with great outdoor areas. The dog loved the communal areas and looking for rabbits. Nice pub within 50m what more could you want.
Excellent Positive: Really nice
Super restful, quiet and comfortable Positive: The village is absolutely stunning and the location near all of the village amenities. The property itself was newly refurbished, clean and very comfortable. Negative: My only (very minor) point is that it would be lovely to have a coffee machine included. However, I did notice on the last day that a cafetiere and 'coffee bags' were provided
Positive: We had a lovely stay and will be back the cottage is very comfortable with everything you need Negative: The cottage was fine and I couldn't find fault it was a shame the pub didn't do food in the evening on a Mon and Tues We went to lastingham and the food was very good
Positive: Heather Cottage. Outstanding property. Very comfortable and well equipped. Kitchen excellent. Water hot. Beds comfortable. Bedrooms are bigger than they appear in photos. Enclosed grass area perfect for my obedient spaniel, not so good for less trained spaniel or dachshund who discovered that they could escape into neighboiring field of sheep through gaps in wire and had to be kept on leads. If you're going for the dark sky area, the property offers a fairly good view of night sky.
Excellent cottage, clean and tidy, in a beautiful location Positive: Excellent property Negative: Everything was lovely
We had a lovely stay at heather cottage, it was nice and quiet, set back from the road The beds were comfy The kitchen was clean and well equipped It was nice have 2 large gardens that the children could play in The laundry shed was very handy Close to pubs and several cafes
Positive: Comfy beds. Good location. Free WiFi. Good shower. Negative: Small property for 6 adults. Front door was stiff and hard to close. Didn't like communal laundry and parking. A sign to find the property would be good as difficult to find.
Just off the main road through the village and very close to the local pub but quiet and private. Handy for the places we wanted to visit.
Absolutely loved our stay and hope to be back in the future. Many Thanks. Positive: Lovely cottage in prime location of village, good secure parking facilities. Everything required for stay was available including hoover, ironing board and iron. Very comfortable beds with all clean linen and towels etc available. Negative: Only reason for one mark off on cleanliness score was we came across a couple of cobwebs ( appreciate in the country and old buildings ). One hanging down from ceiling in bedroom corridor and one behind toilet in bathroom. Did not put us off at all but just for feedback reference.
Positive: Really nice location and the building conversion had been done really well. Negative: There was no sign to indicate where it was. Everyone went to the pub and asked. Just a name plate on the gate is all that's needed. The name of the actual cottage you stay in is buried in the mountain of messages you get so Moorland cottage gets strangers trying to get in there. We were in heath, but I'd missed that bit.
Exceptionally good long weekend. Large enclosed area for dogs to run Positive: Comfortable, spacious and very clean with all amenities provided. Negative: Nothing.
lovely location and had everything that we needed for the stay
Idyllic location and cosy, modern cottage Positive: The cottage is exactly as described, spotlessly clean and spacious. The garden was perfect for us and it really is an ideal location for exploring. WiFi was brilliant. Negative: Maybe an iron/ironing board could be added but I wasn’t too bothered about not having to iron 🤣
Great place for a weekend away Positive: Lovely cottage in an amazing location. It was updated, clean, and comfortable! Negative: The property was missing just a few basic amenities (paper towels in the kitchen, hand soap in the bathroom) and there was no mention of a gate so check in was initially a bit confusing.
Positive: Cosy, comfortable and quiet Negative: Have to be careful of sheeps pooh so not to bring it into the accommodation. Would have liked chicken wire on gate to let dog off lead. But that's being picky as had a lovely stay
Excellent property, excellent location. Will be booking again. Positive: Heather Cottage was fabulous, very clean, beautifully presented and great location. Felt welcoming. Great location too. Negative: There was not anything to dislike.
A gem of a place in a chocolate box village Positive: Gorgeous - clean, quiet, beautifully decorated, warm, comfortable Negative: Ideally for the dog I would like a contained garden, but everything else was perfect
Lovely place to stay. Would recommend
We had a wonderful stay at Heather Cottage. Beautiful surroundings and a cosy cottage. Plenty of room for our family of 5 and large dog. Lovely outdoor space to let the dog run off some energy. We didn't do much cooking but the facilities were great. It was exceptionally clean. There were basic things like tea, coffee and milk sachets provided as well as cleaning cloths and dishwasher tablets. It was beautifully furnished and the smart TV was a nice touch to watch movies in the evening. I think adding a selection of family games would be a nice addition but that's my only suggestion. Would recommend.
We had a lovely stay here, cosy home close to a local pub and some nice walks. Really lovely decor, would definitely recommend!
Positive: Lovely place
Cottage was fantastic , village and surrounding areas great . Pub in Lastingham superb Positive: The cottages are great , although a small village a bit tricky to locate , perhaps need a sign on the front cottage? The neighbours we very use to re direct is . Not a major issue Negative: The management company were very poor . Never sent the code for the lock box, but sent the after welcome , which had no code , which then had a phone number and email if a problem . The mobile services is poor in that area , so difficult to ring, but did get a part message on phone . Sent email , with the use of neighbours wifi . Urgently needed code as getting late and raining. No reply . Lucky the owner of the place walked by, as happened to be in village. Password code didn’t work for wifi. I asked and was given another wrong one. Never received a a response with the correct one . Nice neighbours shared theirs. The cottage is very nice and a great set up . The village is amazing , the management company ruined the experience with their poor or lack of urgency. Still waiting for lock box code and wifi password!
A nice area but had no phone signal at all and to make matters worse there was no internet at all which is very important because having no phone signal meant we were reliant on having WiFi. We were only informed on arrival that the internet was down which was very very inconvenient as the tv ran off the internet as well so sat in the cottage twiddling our thumbs as the pub next door shut its doors at 6pm We wouldn’t stay there again because there’s nothing to do unless you like long walks.
Perfect Positive: Everything Negative: Nothing
Lovely cottage, private location Positive: Property and location was lovely. Lovely cottage with stunning views and all amenities Negative: The only negative comment I would leave is finding the property. There is no signs to let you know where it is we spent 40 mins trying to find the place and also no phone signal in the village, had to access bakery WiFi to get a signal to call the host to find out how to find this hidden gem. A sign up on the wall or gate to let you know this is the moorfield cottages holiday let etc would be helpful for anyone visiting in the future. Other than that I can't fault anything.
We really enjoyed our stay and had a lovely time. Positive: It was comfortable and cosy. Kitchen and bathroom are new. There is an EV charger (TAP). Negative: The nice kitchen lacks some bigger pots and pans to cook for 5. No washing up liquid.
Really nice cottage a bit more info would have been nice and access to support. Positive: Location was fantastic easy walk to all eateries etc. Really comfy and well equipped Negative: Over the bank holiday weekend we were staying and there was no way to contact anyone. We had a problem trying to work out how to turn the shower on and couldn't get in touch with anyone. We eventually worked it out but it wasn't really obvious. A note in the guide book saying 'press button on side of control for rose/hand held to turn shower on'. This would be really helpful. Also the instructions for the heating in the guide book did not match what you actually had to do.
Positive: Everything
Comfortable home from home in an idyllic Yorkshire village. Positive: It is all about the location - it was wonderful to be in the heart of such a lovely little village. The house was also very cosy and clean. Negative: It would have been useful to have a few essentials in the kitchen - washing up liquid, cooking oil etc. The nearest shop is a drive away so this would have improved what was otherwise a lovely place.
Had a fab time here. Cottage is stunning with a brand new kitchen. Surrounding area is beautiful. We will definitely be back xxx
Lovely comfy cottage Positive: Heather cottage was really lovely and practical. Comfortable beds and living area, good size bathroom, easy parking and great location. Negative: Kitchen and eating area were very smal l
Fantastic location just off the main street through the picturesque village. Ample parking and lots of (shared) outside space. There is a good pub (serving food) a stone’s throw from the cottage and a couple of tea-rooms open for breakfasts, lunches etc.. Nearest shop/supermarket is 7 minutes by car. This was a new listing and only downside was a couple of key items that were shown on inventory were not to be found in the cottage (corkscrew and hairdryer). We were told this was an oversight and the items were on order. Other than that, a perfect stay and highly recommended.
Beautiful location, lovely decor in bedrooms and living area, beds really comfy. Kitchen and bathroom unfortunately need more attention - cooker not clean and had a dirty baking tray in it which was worrying as the first people to use the place. Sleeps 6 but lacks equipment to cater fully in the kitchen. Extremely dusty skirting. Also, could not find a hairdryer. Cleaning equipment or kitchen spray as a minimum would have been useful especially for longer stays.
