Positive: A wonderful place to stay! The apartment is right by the harbour, with a charming view and close to the ruins. Very spacious, comfortable, and well equipped – the kitchen is perfect for cooking home meals, and the cozy living room feels just like home. Big plus for the parking space just a few minutes away. Perfect for a family stay – highly recommended!
Negative: The bedrooms are located in the attic with low ceilings. This was a bit inconvenient in daily use, as it’s easy to forget and bump your head – especially taller guests need to be careful.

Lovely, cozy and clean house in a good location. The decor was very tasteful and homely, the beds were comfortable and the shower was great! The house is better in real life than the pictures!
The kitchen was well equipped for cooking a proper meal (however no salt, pepper or oil provided, which I’d come to expect in rented houses, so take your own).
We parked on the road just a short walk from the cottage which was easy enough. It was also a pleasant and easy walk into town.
Overall this was a great place for 2 adults and 2 kids.
I didn’t receive the check-in instructions prior to arrival so had to call for these. We also didn’t appear to have an outside bin (after much searching) so were advised to leave rubbish for housekeeping to dispose of. But my queries were dealt with promptly.

Lovely long weekend at Harbour mist cottage. The house was beautiful, everything you need, really cosy and comfortable. Lots of fun things to do in Whitby and surrounding area for a family with young children. We'd definitely recommend a stay here.

Apart from the parking we had a good stay
Positive: The cottage is in a great location and within walking distance to the centre . Very clean and everything you could need for a few days away . Beds were really comfortable too.
Negative: There is a lack of parking especially close to the property. We didn’t go out much in the car incase I couldn’t get parked again as it was just me and my two children .

A great place for a family holiday - the location is perfect for a stroll into Whitby but away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. Having two separate living rooms is perfect for setting up an X Box in one and an adult space in the other! The Nespresso machine was a lovely touch and the well-equipped kitchen made meal prep a breeze ; the attention to detail was impressive - good wine glasses and quality towels made us feel welcome. Overall a great choice for a break. Be sure to head to Staithes for a fossil hunt - much fun was had!

This little place was a lovely find . Everywhere was spotless, comfortable and tidy. It was a short walk into town and the harbour /beach which was great as we didn’t want to use the car all the time. We all slept well too , the bed was nice and comfortable. The shower was always nice and hot, And to have two cosy living rooms was a plus as my daughter wanted to watch her programs and we could chat in the other room . The only thing we couldn’t find on checking out was the bin. There were instructions as to where it was on the pedal bin so I went outside both alleyways but couldn’t find a number 7 bin , every other number but ! … never mind , there was a bin next to the bus stop that we used, all good . First time visiting Whitby and it won’t be the last. We had a couple of lovely sunsets and managed the 199 steps up to the Abbey. Thanks so much hope to see you soon

Nice wee mist cottage stairs a bit not great for the frail
Positive: Very nice great location

The house is in a convenient location (with car parking round the corner helpful) and you can walk into Whitby in a few minutes but still be assured of a peaceful night's sleep. Really comfy beds and well appointed throughout, but an outdoor light would be handy. The place is compact and if you have mobility issues this is not the place for you - the house is set back and up from the main road and accessible via stone steps - but overall we really enjoyed its character and quirky charm.

Nice location but would not stay again
Negative: Host could have answered text regarding parking
And nothing was mentioned about how low the bed rooms were wife is 5ft 2 and still managed to bang her head a few times

Painful
Positive: It was near the town
Clean and excellent kitchen appliances
Negative: Both me and my partner are over 80 Kitchen on second floor up steep winding staircase Bedrooms on third floor again up a steep winding staircase But the worst had yet to come the beams were that low you have to be under four feet to walk about and be even more careful when getting in or out of bed as the ceiling was only about a foot above our heads Needless to say we had a few bumps on our heads
Outside the premises the walkway was full of rubbish and uneven.Steps were also uneven No lights were on walkway so had to use phone torch to see where we were walking at night
Car parking is a near 10 minutes walk up a really steep hill then park on someones drive impossibly for us to do On the first night we came in to find no lights or sockets working so we had no cuppa before bed We made our way to bed again under torch light thank you phone

We stayed at Harbour Mist with our close friends for 3 nights and this house was a perfect place for our base. The space has been used really well for a small 3 story house, we ample living space and a lovely kitchen. The one thing I will say is that the 2nd bedroom with twin beds was a little small for adults , but it was still perfectly form alwith lovely linen and comfy beds. The addition of a washing machine was great for people who get muddy on lovely walks around the area. Another brilliant bonus was the allocated parking space up the road as it was extremely busy with on street parking throughout our stay. There is quite a hill to go up, but just take your time. Would definitely use the Harbour Mist again if we were going to stay in Whitby as a group.

Super little house, beautifully furnished.
We had a great time here. Parking sometimes not possible, so had to park up the hill a couple of times (5/10 min walk).
Careful not to bump your head in the top bedrooms - happened to us a few times 😊.
But house excellent value for money and we were very warm and cosy here .
Loved our time in Whitby, what a place ! 😀

Warm cosy comfy in close to harbour
Positive: Great location. Warm and cosy house with all we needed. Great kitchen for cooking.
Negative: It is only suitable for people with good mobility as there are steep steps
Personally I don't like the artificial fragrance plug ins so took them out

Great location
Positive: Great location and overall was clean with fresh bedding and towels.
We only slept in it so didn't really use the kitchen but it did look fully equipped.
Parking space included.
Negative: Mirror broken on landing
Fridge had a bad smell, the front had stains on it and just looked grotty.
Bedrooms had really low ceilings as they were in the roof so hard to manoeuvre around.

1st visit to Whitby
Positive: Location was great.
Negative: Got a few bumped heads from the beams in the bedrooms. The twin room was a lot smaller than it looked on the photos, not really big enough for a 16 and 19 year old. Would be fine for younger children.

Amazing Modern cosy cottage near the harbour. A must for a holiday
Positive: Location and great cottage with all mod cons. Lovely and homely . Decor lovely and nice to living rooms and two toilets. Lovely hot showers.
Negative: Not enough toilet rolls for the 4 of us.
Cracked mirror and paint coming of in the down stairs living room. No bin in this room too . Toilet hook in upstairs toilet .

Great cottage, perfect location
Positive: We had a wonderful stay at Harbour Mist Cottage for a few days away with the kids in the summer holidays. The house was well located and easy to reach. We were lucky to get a parking space opposite and didn’t need to move the car but the option the use a space up the hill is a great asset. We didn’t have a problem with the low ceilings upstairs and felt this added to the character of the house. Would recommend 👍🏻
GaryBooking.comAug 2026
Positive: Great character with a real Whitby feel. Nice areas to relax and we'll equipped with dishwasher and washing machine.
Negative: The parking is a little way from the house. For elderly or people with mobility issues, the steps up to the property and the staircases inside would be difficult.
GuestAirbnbAug 2026
Lovely clean house in a good location to access all Whitby's attractions.
The kitchen was well equipped, but as previously mentioned in the reviews no basics ie salt and pepper were provided. Also there wasn't any shampoo as advertised in the description. It was great to have our own parking spot a short walk from the house.
Another couple of things that we felt should have been mentioned were the steep uneven steps to access the house and the single beds are really only suitable for children.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would say that overall the house has an overall charm and quirkiness about it.
We loved that ear plugs were provided for the noisy seagulls but to be expected at the sea side.

Positive: A really lovely comfortable house in a great location. Very well equipped. Feels like a home away from home. Will definitely book another stay.
CatherineBooking.comJul 2026
Really liked the property, apart from banging heads on low beams and the sea gulls!
Positive: It was a good location for the 199 steps and restaurants, shops and bars. Its a bit scruffy around the property but good to have a dedicated parking space not far away and we were able to park on the road as well making it easier to pack the car when we left.
Negative: This is not really the fault of the property as such but we didnt get much sleep! There appear to be seagulls nesting on the roof which as the bedrooms are in the eaves right by where we were trying to sleep. There was alot of noise from around 3.30am I am not sure if there is anything to deter the sea gulls but really we did not sleep for three nights.

GuestAirbnbJun 2026
We had such a lovely stay! It is in a great location a few minutes walk right in the heart of Whitby. You can see the boats and marina out of the window.
The house was spotless, really well cleaned, and cute maritime decor! We loved that it has 2 sitting rooms so rhe kids could watch a movie downstairs while we relaxed in the gorgeous upper sitting room.
As others have said the 2nd bedroom with the single beds is only really suitable for children as the beds are small singles and the room is very small and with a sloping room. The beds are very comfortable with new, pristine, good quality mattresses (very important to us to sleep well!).
The parking space is handy as it is hard to park in Whitby, but it is a short walk up the hill, so we had to stop and unload outside the house first.

Positive: Good location. Very well presented property
Negative: Nothing about the house, just the parking was a challenge for walking up the very steep hill with bags

From start to finish the whole process was wonderful.
Booking and checking in was made so simple with the outstanding communication and fast response to messages.
The cottage is beautiful, very clean and perfect for what we needed.
Just be careful if your tall due to the beams in the bedrooms

The location of the cottage is great. Good that there was a parking space available from an incredibly friendly lady but we didn’t need to use it as found space on the street. The space is small but well designed to fit everything you need in. It is a shame that it is a little tired & need of maintenance.

Not what we expected.
Positive: Location, very clean property. Really good, powerful shower.
Negative: No near parking, very low ceilings in the bedrooms which caused many a bumped head. Not able to adjust the heating so at one point very cold especially during the first night but after an attempt to turn it up came on eventually.
Requested an earluer arrival but had it declined, so we couldn't get in until 4pm. On the day of departure, I requested a later check out only an hour and a half, had that also declined but asked if we wanted to book and extra night!!?? Very disappointing. Over charged for literally 2 nights and a day.
MargieBooking.comOct 2025
Great location!
Negative: There are no rails to put towels on so you end up with a wet towel next time you shower;TV was difficult to operate, we were initially given the wrong key code, and although we were told we would be able to park our car somewhere, there was no clue as to where that was!
That said, location was brilliant and we had a great time!
KarenVrboOct 2025
The cottage and location are perfect for Whitby. Our only issue was sizing of the bedrooms and how tight the bedroom with the twin beds was and how close to the ceiling, you basically had to be hunched over. The listing describes the bedroom as large and spacious. My 6 foot three son-in-law and my 6 foot husband did not think it was large enough. We had bets on who would bonk their head the most. My husband won with three head bunks that being said, the kitchen was gorgeous. The shower downstairs was fabulous. The upstairs bathroom was a bit tight and needs a lock, but we enjoyed our stay immensely and Whitby is beautiful. Thanks for hosting us
GuestAirbnbOct 2025
Really handy location. Very clean. Well appointed. We had some storm damage from Storm Any while we were there, but that wasn't an issue. Our only issue were the beds. They are not full length for some reason. We are 5ft 9in and 5ft 7in and the mattresses were too short, with our feet hanging over the edge of the bed. This was an issue for me as I had surgery on my ankle recently and the scar rubbed on the bead around the edge of the mattress. The bedrooms are small, but that's fine as it is an older property. But normal length mattresses would still fit in my opinion. It was an uncomfortable sleep. A 6-footer would really struggle. Otherwise, nice place

Whitby is lovely, stay in a better property.
Positive: The weather..
Negative: 1. Scruffy and weedy frontage. First impressions were bad.
2. No welcome pack.
3. 1 toilet roll in each toilet.
5. No cleaning fluids.
6. No table to take outside, for drink or snacks.
8. Dangerous taking food down stairs for dining table.
9. Lots of rotten wood in property
10. Bathroom smells Musty.
11. Front Bed Room window looks like it's never opened.
12. Back bedroom.. banging legs on posts sticking up at end of bed.
13. Overall.
Could be modernised and made very welcoming.
Would not recommend or book again.
14. Walk to offered free Parking 3 mins..
It was 10 mins uphill did not used.
13. 2am Wed morning. Carbon monoxide alarm going off. Kept reading 00 then 22..rang in, to your number . I was told prob faulty batteries.
Took it down to check
Firstly miss matched batteties and should they not be all the same..also no spare ones in the house anywhere.
I was told by the operative on the phone if it happened again. Email text or call.
If it happens again. I'm calling the fire dept..
E mails bounce
I have no number to text
Phone takes ages to answer

Excellent locations but a few issues. Read all the info carefully before booking!
Positive: Amazing location, exceptionally clean. There was everything in there you would need for a short stay & it’s in a quiet location (except the seagulls). The parking space at the nearby property was a god send, as there is never any on street parking during the summer.
Negative: The bedrooms! It does warn about the low beams but they are exceptionally low & in places where you are 100% going to hit your head on them, I feel like I still have concussion! The twin room is extremely small & feels very claustrophobic. The beds are shorter than standard & only really suitable for small children. The location of the property means it’s difficult for dropping off your bags & it would not be suitable for anyone with any kind of mobility issues.

We had a fantastic stay at harbour mist cottage. It was a short walk from the centre of Whitby. A good location as not too noisy with a good view of the river and town. The host was very helpful with communications about the property and check in and out. The house was quirky with lovely furniture and decor. I would love to stay there again.

The house was a very pleasant place to stay to explore Whitby. The house is comfortable and modern but with a bit of much-needed Whitby quirkiness to it. It’s a quiet area but only a short walk to the centre of town.
The lady who owns the parking spot you can use is very pleasant. It’s a few minutes walk away up a hill so we dropped off luggage first and then went to park.

We picked glorious weather and had a lovely weekend.
Positive: Lovely clean cottage, close to town but quiet. The tap in the kitchen was very wonky, we worried it might come off when we used it.

We had a lovely few days at Harbour cottage. We weren’t lucky enough to get a parking space but the allocated space was a short walk away (up hill as described) and the lovely lady was super helpful.
We had an issue locking the front door from the inside but I think the lock just needed tightening with an Allan key. We managed. Tap in kitchen needs tightening up but still worked fine.
Just a short walk from all of the seaside fun but quiet enough on an evening to relax.
Loved the decor, comfy beds, lovely oven, great shower!!! Thanks for having us.

Conveniently located for central Whitby. Nicely decorated, looked as advertised. The website for host and stay was very useful.
Parking was a bit tricky, as we had to unload in the street. There was an allocated space but a bit of a walk. This would have been the same anywhere in Whitby we imagine, with it being a busy tourist destination.

Comfortable and clean property. Good location a short walk from town.
Positive: Well appointed and comfortable. Parking space is a short walk up the hill from the property and is handy with parking bejng generally a bit tricky in whitby at busy times.
Negative: Nothing in the guest info for heating controller, we had to message to find where it was. (Its in the upstairs livingroom on the table and looks like a clock!)
Upstairs bedrooms have low ceilings- you will need to duck!

Great location, well equipped kitchen and twin lounge areas. Nicely decorated with the exception of the shower which could do with a deep clean. No heating in bathroom or kitchen so perhaps not the place for deep winter, but the upstairs lounge was nice and snug. As previous reviews have mentioned there are steep and uneven steps up to the property, and the bedrooms are height restricted in areas, but the location and available off-road parking was very convenient and we had a lovely time.
GuestAirbnbOct 2023
Location very handy for central Whitby. Parking - got lucky by arriving well in advance of check-in and waiting nearby until a space became available for free on street parking near the property. There is an arrangement for free off street parking at a house on a housing estate which is about 5 minutes drive away up a steep hill. We didn’t use it only as felt it was impractical to park there and carry luggage etc to/from the cottage - nice offer though as appreciate parking is at a premium in town. The cottage is well equipped and furnished with no external noise disturbance at all. Mind your head in upstairs bedrooms!
The living accommodation in this place is truly fabulous and the choice of spaces to chill out was refreshing for the local area, as was having access to a parking space. The place is finished to a high standard and the hosts have thought of everything - including the small touches like a handy Nespresso machine in the kitchen. The upper floor proved more of a challenge for us with height restrictions and space in bedrooms and upper bathroom.
GuestAirbnbSep 2023
Absolutely beautiful cottage. We loved how close to the centre we were and getting harbour views was an added bonus. The decor and interior arrangement was perfect. We felt right at home and didn’t want to leave. The kitchen was equipped and roomy for cooking. Small dishwasher was a nice touch so we didn’t have to do washing up while away. The sofas and living spaces were super comfortable. And one of my favourite parts were the beds were so comfortable we all slept so well. Thank you harbour mist we will definitely come back again 😊

The cottage has been renovated to a high & contemporary standard. We couldn’t believe how much was done to a small cottage to make it into holiday accommodation . Host & Stay were available to us throughout and were most helpful.
Although very lovely, the cottage is not for people with any kind of mobility issues as it is spread over three floors with steps throughout, the outside requires climbing steep steps and the car parking, with lovely people in the area, is an uphill walk away.
We had a lovely few days away.
GuestAirbnbSep 2023
Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the Harbour Mist Cottage. it was clean and beautifully presented. The location was superb, a short walk to Whitby centre. We've stayed in a few airbnbs and with this one we were surprised by the lack of basics. For example, there was no pepper, no cooking oil and only three toilet rolls for two bathrooms. On a more positive note we loved the touch of shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom. The bedrooms are beautiful and the bed linen was pristine. The bedrooms have sloped ceilings, but this wasn't a problem for us as we are not that tall! This property really is a beautiful retreat in the centre of Whitby and we would definitely return.
