Beautiful house full of character and period features. Very central location. Our daughters loved the piano. Stayed cosy with the heating on, as it was snowing when we were there! \nPerhaps not one for light sleepers as there were church bells throughout the night and the window frames banged in the wind in the front two bedrooms.

Hall Garth was a great place to stay for a family hols. It’s a spacious, warm and comfortable house, with large well equipped kitchen. Beds were super comfy too. It was a bit too cold/wet to use the garden but would be great in the right season! The house location is fab - literally a very short walk from Pickering’s historic town centre, castle, church, steam railway and many shops! Although it doesn’t have dedicated parking spaces, we managed to get a spot right outside the house most of the time. I’d be very happy to stay again!

Great relaxing time with family. Positive: Location great. Negative: Not being able to park outside of property.

GuestAirbnbAug 2024

Great home that easily accommodated my family and dog. Lovely location with loads to do. Easy check in and out. Great holiday, thanks

GuestAirbnbJan 2024

Me and my family stayed here for New Year, plenty of space for us all, warm and comfortable location, close to great pubs.

Charming cottage Charming property in Pickering. Steps from Pickering centre and ten minutes from Pickering castle and train station. Great property for a family vacation. Pickering is a convenient base for day trips to North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks and Whitby and Scarborough.

Stayed at Hall Garth in Pickering with the family, including 4 children. The house was easy to find and get into. It was immaculate inside and much bigger than we had thought. The kitchen was equipped with everything you needed and we appreciated towels being left for us to use. The children loved the cupboard of toys! The property is on a quiet street in centre of town and we loved being able to walk out the door to explore. We had no trouble getting parked each day either. We will definitely be staying here again!

Good few days away with family. Positive: Lovely cottage.. Negative: Creepy flooring.. but that wasn’t a problem

GuestAirbnbJul 2023

Beautiful characterful cottage All the amenities in place. Clean Kitchen fully equipped A bit squeaky floorboards and upstairs bathroom doors - adds character but wakes the family up at night 🤣

The house is located in the town centre with easy access to shops and the railway station. The house can easily accommodate 6 people with bathrooms up and down. The kitchen is equipped with all you need for cooking. Parking is an issue There is a B and B next door so I think spaces get taken. We arrived the first day at 5pm and got a space We were very happy staying there and can recommend. The other days all spaces were gone as we got back after 6pm. We have a disabled parking badge so parked on the double yellow lines. Later in the evening a space came available so we moved the car then. It isn't a huge issue but just bear in mind you may have to park away from The house. Across the road is a church or community hall. There is activity going on, one night was a drumming session!!! But a activity was over by 9pm so not a problem

GuestAirbnbAug 2023

Beautiful old house in a great location to explore the lovely town of Pickering and beyond. Lots of space, very clean and as described in the photos. Quiet area with just the church bells and hooting of the steam train in the distance to listen to. Great to have the 2 sitting rooms, the wifi worked well and I just logged into Netflix, Prime and the IPlayer to the Firestick provided, although there is obviously normal TV as well. Parking was fine for the 1st half of the week but the street was full in the end (summer hols) and it was only that we have a blue badge that we parked on double yellows. Not sure where would have parked otherwise? Assume in quieter periods it would be fine. An excellent stay and well worth it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a fantastic stay here over New Year’s! The place was spotless, beautifully set up, and exactly as described, if not better. It felt comfortable and welcoming from the moment we arrived, and it was the perfect spot to relax and ring in the new year. The host was friendly, responsive, and made everything easy from check-in to check-out. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would absolutely recommend this Airbnb to anyone. We’d love to come back!

20 Hallgarth is a lovely period property, right in the centre of Pickering with easy walking access to amenities. Great location for exploring the North York Moors, or the coastal towns of Whitby, Scarborough etc. As described, there is no designated parking and although a bit of a juggle, we did almost always get two cars parked outside the property. You might need to park further down the road or temporarily nose on to double yellow lines like the locals do, until a space in front becomes available. There is a good bus service to Scarborough and Whitby if you fancy a day without the car. For eating out, highly recommend Figaro's Italian restaurant but probably best to book.

MarcusVrboSep 2026

Beautiful, well equipped house a very short walk from the market square and shops of Pickering. Sweet garden- secure, so dog friendly Very quiet area with just the (muted) church bells to listen to. Great walking country- with ability to start on doorstep. Pickering has range of independent shops, great bakers and butchers & market on a Monday.

GuestAirbnbAug 2026

Beautiful period house with plenty of space. Parking is limited and its a first come first served basis. We did struggle to get parked a few times but after driving around for a while a spot would become available close enough to where we were.

GuestAirbnbAug 2026

Location was great for exploring and house would have been perfect had it been clean when we arrived. It was like someone cleaned but forgot to hoover and mop the floors, there was dog hair all over the floors. Definitely a dog friendly house which isn’t a problem as long as cleaning is done well.

SusanBooking.comAug 2026

Third year in this house and disappointed that standards had slipped. Positive: Location and space. Negative: Dust. The beds and kitchen were clean and tidy but the whole house needed a deep clean. Picture frames, skirting boards and corners of rooms all had a layer of dust. The windows were very dirty. All was backed up with photos to Host and Stay.

Cosy, comfortable stay in pickering, ideal for your gateway to North Yorkshire. Positive: It was a very cosy three bedroom house, well equipped and beautiful interiors. It’s Ideal for a families with small children. The kitchen was my favourite part. The location was good in the village of Pickering with shops nearby And within easy driving distance to whitby. Negative: There was nothing not to like.

GuestAirbnbMay 2026

Beautiful cottage with plenty of room, we had everything that we needed. Perfect location to explore the north Yorkshire moors and also at the Yorkshire coast. Pickering is a lovely little town with plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs it has everything you’re likely to need. The only negative comments I would have is a parking outside the property can be a little bit limited.

GuestAirbnbMay 2026

Lovely period house in great location.

GuestAirbnbOct 2025

nice place for visiting North Yorkshire & the railway!

GuestAirbnbSep 2025

The property was spacious, and had lots of character, the kitchen was really well equipped, though the positioning of the table made it a squeeze at times. Bedding and bedlinen felt fresh and clean. Plenty of coat hanging space and storage. Nice little garden, unfortunately it was too wet to use, but would be a lovely space to sit with better weather.

GuestAirbnbAug 2025

I had a wonderful stay at this property! The space was clean, comfortable, and exactly as described in the listing. The location was convenient, with easy access to local attractions. The host was responsive, and made the check-in process simple and stress-free. Overall, it was a great experience and I’d happily stay here again!

MalcolmBooking.comJul 2025

A relaxing break in a charming English country town. Positive: A beautifully remodelled house, nicely furnished. Excellent location close to the centre of Pickering. Parking usually available outside or nearby. Negative: Kitchen somewhat compromised by an over-sized oven protruding into the middle of the room, making it difficult to navigate around a large table. Only 2 extremely heavy chairs provided, and 2 plain benches, for seating. Garden rather overgrown with weeds.

GuestAirbnbJul 2025

Well placed house in Pickering close town centre. No allocated parking but usually able to park outside. Beds comfy. A few repair issues but good place overall.

Fantastisch verblijf gehad. Schone gite en Sylvain is een fijne gastheer die snel reageert op eventuele vragen of verzoeken.

JaneVrboMay 2025

Great location but needs repair The house served our needs for a week. Positives are location in the centre of Pickering, a well-stocked kitchen (albeit awkward moving around the table to sink and dishwasher), renovated bathrooms (only one shower). The place was generally clean. However, I would not recommend staying until the severe damp has been remediated. The two front rooms and hallway had damp crawling up the walls. Clearly, an attempt to paint over it had been made in the past, but it needs professional renovation. There is a moldy smell on both floors. If it hadn't been for that, the place was great. We would have liked more than 2 toilet rolls to be provided, and some paper towel, but these are small comments. We did tell host and stay about the damp.

GuestAirbnbApr 2025

The stay was nice and pleasant.

GuestAirbnbJan 2025

Nice house and very close to amenities. Parking is first come first serve outside the property and we had no issue getting parked nearby. The house is old and could do with some updating in places although the bathrooms were modern. Only one bathroom with a walk in shower, the other bathroom is bath only - no shower.

GuestAirbnbNov 2024

Perfect location for Pickering centre, plus York, Moors & Yorkshire coast, ideal location to explore from. Home was very welcoming and cosy, a perfect place to explore from. All amenities were good quality and very clean. Exceptionally well equipped kitchen. Lots of information left about the house and things to do, very helpful. A home away from home, loved it. Parking was only once not available within the road, but surrounding roads have plenty of other options, so wasn’t a problem.

GuestAirbnbOct 2024

This is wonderful old home, which is somewhat quirky, but that is part of its charm. Outstanding location. We will certainly return. Only notes are that while there are free parking spots on the street, even in off season, it is exceedingly rare to find one available for more than a few minutes. However, there is a pay and display car park about a block away. Other note is that it took us awhile to figure out that the 'caretakers' are essentially the 'hosts' and they are excellent in our experience. From what we can tell, Host & Stay is just a company and when communicating with them it seems you are dealing with an employee in some unknown location. But once having that sorted out it went perfectly.

GuestAirbnbSep 2024

A lovely few days away for the NYMR steam gala, ideal location and great walking distance. A nice little cottage with great history and a cosy atmosphere.

MalcolmBooking.comJul 2024

Loved it so much already booked for next year. Positive: Peace, space and easy access to town and railway. High quality furnishings throughout. Beautifully fitted bathrooms. House was very clean.Pleasant garden with table for outdoor dining. Negative: Awkward arrangement of oven in fitted kitchen compromised seating arrangement at table. Inconsistent and confused communication from management company Host and Stay from the time of booking.

GuestAirbnbJun 2024

Everything was great!

stephenBooking.comMay 2024

Positive: Location was absolutely superb, in a quiet part of town, just off the main street through Pickering and close to everything you need on a break. The character of the house really made a difference to the stay and adds a dimension to a holiday in my opinion. Negative: The floorboards upstairs were particularly noisy and could do with repair or replacement.

GuestAirbnbNov 2023

Pleasant stay

JulieBooking.comSep 2023

GuestAirbnbAug 2023

We had a great stay at Hall Garth! The rooms were a nice size, clean and characterful. We felt right at home! Its located in walking distance to the main highstreet and restaurants/pub. The Host and Stay team were great, proactively sending all relevant and helpful information to help plan our trip. They had a great app/site with lots of helpful info!

RuthBooking.comJul 2023

A very poor experience Positive: Nice location Negative: Property was covered in cobwebs, dust, floorboards need replaced, very noisy, beds very uncomfortable. Bedding stained. Covered in cat hairs. When we arrived it hadn’t been cleaned, management company were not very helpful.

GuestAirbnbJun 2023

Nice place, good location for the steam train and walking to restaurants, pubs etc. Lacked a few basics like bath mats and hand towels in the bathrooms and could do with some paint repairs but overall it was good. Parking was not a problem.

The house is clean, spacious and full of character. Gave 4 stars overall due to lack of parking outside the property.
