Cozy little cottage in the heart of beautiful Staithes. The cottage is smart and modern, if a little smaller than the pictures made it look. Communication and check in was easy - parking is abit of an issue if we have young children/dogs etc.

GuestAirbnbJul 2025

Pretty fishing village. The Cod and Lobster was fantastic (book ahead as v popular). Lovely places up and down the coast to visit too, especially Runswick and Saltburn. We arrived on Friday (2 night stay) the lock was stiff to open and when we went to leave for dinner the door wouldn’t lock (catch) meaning we had to get a maintenance chap out using host and stay. They were v responsive and came out in less than an hour and fixed the problem but sadly we had to stay in until all sorted by which time it was my son’s bedtime. Disappointed about this as we had only 2 nights booked. WiFi worked v well. Limited access to mobile 4G/ 5G in Staithes so ensure all docs/ phone numbers are saved to phone before arrival. Kitchen well stocked with all you need and v modern and clean Bathroom def need some tlc..Staines tiles and little mould close to shower and floor there. Shower pressure low too. Overall rooms look bigger online. Beds super comfy and linen and towels spotless.

The cottage was so sweet and lovely. It was perfect for our family during the stay. It had everything we needed. The location is great too. Hope to come back.

Comfortable stay Positive: We have stayed here a few times previously, the cottage is in a great location and is very comfortable. The bedrooms are comfortable and the shower room has under floor heating which is controlled in the kitchen. Negative: The sofa was covered in dog hair and slobber stains which we cleaned up. Fortunately we took our own logs/coal as there were none to get us started. This is worth bearing in mind if it’s your first visit. There wasn’t any information pack which would be helpful with the heating/appliances.

GuestAirbnbMar 2024

This is a very cosy cottage in a wonderful location. Right near the beach/harbour and everything you need. We were 4 adults and 3 dogs and was a bit of a squeeze but we were out most of the day anyway. Great walks and pubs nearby.

Good location, closed to amenities, compact house, wide but narrow Positive: Location Negative: It was fine for three ladies, however had it been two couples it would have been very cosy in the kitchen and sitting area

PatriciaBooking.comMar 2024

Cosy cottage stay close to the harbour, relaxing and good for the soul! Positive: Great location close to the harbour, the narrow street to the cottage is opposite the side entrance to the Cod and Lobster, slightly to the left. There is an excellent kitchen - everything you could need- all clean and well presented. Beds were comfy, good shower, appreciated the under floor heating in bathroom, plenty of hot water. There were 3 of us, all adults and we were cosy and comfortable in the property. Will definitely stay again! Negative: Nothing to dislike, a couple of suggestions: it would be helpful to have some kindling for the open fire, especially for people arriving later in the evening, and it would be helpful to have the location of the switch for the water heater, and the exact location of the cottage (opposite the pub) noted in the otherwise really helpful online guide.

Positive: Location great, no outside space but it’s a very short stroll to the harbour. . kitchen good and well equipped. Bed comfortable. Negative: Bathroom tiles mouldy on grout just need a good scrub with bleach, not pleasant, Sofas uncomfortable and TV too small. Probably would feel a bit cramped with more than two people.

KateBooking.comMar 2025

Perfect for a couple on a lazy weekend Positive: The location was fabulous, and the property itself was very quaint with all the amenities required. Negative: The house was very cold, even with all the radiators on & the bed in the master bedroom felt rather small. The sofa also seemed to have quite a few dog hairs on it.

VERY VERY POOR Positive: Nice location, kitchen was pretty Negative: FREEZING!!! no underfloor getting, house was very cold, emailed to see if logs ir coal was to ve used on the fire ( nothing available on artival), didn't get a reply so fire wasn't used. Slept in hoody the first 2 6 kept a day early because I didn't like freezing in bed. Mould on wall in lounge, mouldy mikdewy wet room. Not pleasant, I think I would have vern warmer in my tent! Not very big, you would struggle with 4 people staying there

Positive: Perfect location. Once the car is parked up the hill in the chargeable car park, you don't then need it again until departure as everything is in walking distance. The accommodation is attractive from the outside, with two wooden benches to enjoy a cuppa with 2 love rosemary planters each side of the doorway, which we used in our cooking. Entering the property you'll find a small cosy lounge with a stunning fireplace and small TV with Sky/Netflix. Also DVDs, books and games to enjoy. Can often hear the seagulls in the distance which was lovely. The kitchen has everything needed to make a delicious meal to enjoy. Lovely having a dishwasher too. Nice touch having a small supply of quality tea, coffee and sugar. Thank you. The bathroom is downstairs with a walk in shower and heated towel rail. Upstairs you'll find two small cosy bedrooms with hangers for clothing and sash windows. One with a double bed and the second with twin beds. The mattress was comfortable. Love the blinds and curtains up there too. Gun Gutter House is perfect for solo or a couple. Or a small family. The accommodation is up a small alleyway, leading down to the Cod and Lobster pub, just a few steps away. Plenty of places to eat and drink in the village. Possibly best to pre book to avoid disappointment. The best thing about the cottage is you can make a fresh cuppa and take the dog onto the beach within a few steps. Lovely late at night or early morning to see the ever changing colours of the sea and sky. Would definitely recommend and would return. Negative: Please refer to all the positives the holiday home has to offer.... This beautiful seaside retreat could be amazing with a little more thought. It lacks attention to detail with cleaning/décor in places. The bathroom had a smell to it and the tiles in there could do with a good scrub. The internal white doors could do with a good clean too. But even so, I would still recommend. The kitchen area was spotless.

Very disappointing and cold. Positive: Was self catering. Kitchen was fine and well equiped. Negative: Filthy tiles in bathroom . Thick dust under bed. Inadequate heating and instructions..Deceptive instructions re parking which said that parking was 5mins away when in fact it is a twenty minute walk up a very steep hill and cost £8.00 a day not the £5 that was said. Also the property had very steep stairs. It should say on website that the property is totally unsuitable for the elderly or very young. Also we were told that towels were provided but not told that you got one each for a week and had to pay if you wanted more. Photos were deceptive, the lounge was tiny and like a corridor. No way 4 people could use this comfortably. All in all if the description had been honest we would not have chosen to stay there.

We really enjoyed our stay in this little cottage. We got takeout from the pub and spent hours walking the rock pools and crabbing off the pier. This cottage was the perfect base and with the fire going in an evening, it was blissful. My advice is take some fire lighters and logs to get the fire going. and some slippers so you can get really cosy.

The cottage is absolutely beautiful so well considered comfortable and stylish. The kitchen is really well stocked with all of the equipment you could need and modern appliances. Located in a fabulous place close to the beach. Unfortunately it was absolutely freezing on arrival, we have stayed in Staithes many many times and have benefitted from some complimentary logs left as we arrived on a Sunday check in is pretty late….. so it would have been lovely to have been left a couple of logs given how late check in is…. We know heating is a challenge in Staithes however with the ttechnology available it is possible to work around. also very difficult to open key box took over and hour, didn’t find hot water switch until the next day. We were locked out accidentally which was well responded to but we were then charged an absolute fortune to have the door opened by someone very local!! Would definitely stay again but in warmer months not for older people or young babies at this time of yr

Positive: Location Negative: Whole house Absolutely filthy. Toilet doesnt flush and when it does it comes up through shower drain.

LaurenBooking.comOct 2026

Positive: Nice little house with cosy fire and everything we needed. Bedding/towels lovely and clean. Negative: Shower room could have been cleaner in general and there was quite an issue with the drainage water did not run away after a shower. Water also came uo the shower drain each time toilet was flushed or the sink was used.

BethBooking.comSep 2026

Location wins Positive: Really good location and very clean. The bathroom/wet room is big and makes clean up from the beach easy. Kitchen is well stocked with equipment. Negative: The front room is exceptionally small which was tricky with two small children - would be great for a couple with or without slightly older children. The carpet up the stairs and in the bedrooms was painful to walk on. There was a very musty/damp smell throughout However- please do not let this put you off for a couple of nights stay at a seaside the location wins out (I wouldn't recommend for longer stays)

EmmaBooking.comAug 2026

Fabulous central location right next to the harbour and the Cod and Lobster. A few minor changes would really help get a Positive: Fantastic location and clean. Lovely fabric and soft furnishings. Carefully thought out and a well equipped kitchen - eating in saved us a lot of money while we were there. Great base for Lifeboat Weekend. Negative: Very dirty frying pan in one of the cupboards - a new frying pan is needed. The outside of the property would benefit from a spruce up. A badly broken and rusted bench needs replacing, removal of rubble and a lick of paint on the door and letter box would really help its overall appearance.

JulieBooking.comAug 2026

Positive: Good furnishings and comfortable beds . Negative: Outside of property was awful. Broken bench and dirty doorstep. Very much lacking kerb appeal. Needs tidying up . Damp outside wall in lounge needs attention.

StephBooking.comAug 2026

Beautiful cottage relaxing seaside stay Positive: Beautiful comfy cottage in perfect place Negative: Unfortunately the milk holder on the fridge door fell of and cracked when we opened the fridge door. We reported this straight away

StacyBooking.comJul 2026

Pleasant house which was well equipped Positive: Near beach shops pubs art centre museum Negative: Front door and front of the house was covered in seagull poo. There was a collapsed wooden bench outside the house. There were dirty marks all over the double bedroom door, the oven was dirty and cushions had blobs of an unknown substance on them. The rug in the lounge was a trip hazard and the shower tiles were stained brown. Check in was far too late and check out too early. I had to ring on the day of travel to get key code and walking directions to the house. My request for earlier check in was declined.

Lovely small fishermans cottage in a stunning village. Positive: Lovely little fisherman's cottage in a beautiful village. The cottage is small but ok for 2 adults. It has 2 bedrooms with twin beds in the second, however I wouldn't want to take the grandkids, especially if it was raining. It would become a nightmare. If however you just need to use it as a base then it would be perfect. The decor and cleanliness was exceptional. We can recommend the Crab and Lobster for food. Negative: There was a broken bench outside the cottage. The Windows and front door were covered in spider webs plus spiders. Good job I like spiders. The shower waste water was slow to run away.

JaneBooking.comApr 2026

We loved the house and its location Positive: Great location. I love the way they had decorated the property. The bedding and towels were super fresh and of great quality. The kitchen had everything we needed and again, really clean and fresh. Negative: The shower room wasn’t as clean as the ready of the house for some reason. But that’s something that can be quickly fixed. I didn’t like the admin we went through to get into the house. Sounded like a foreign call centre and I kept receiving the same questionnaire even though it had previously been filled in. I ended up sending an email and 2 phone calls to put my mind at rest to know if we were actually going. This was the day before.

TookeBooking.comMar 2026

Loved Staithes just not this cottage. Positive: The location. Negative: The property was cold on arrival. And although we got the bedrooms warm, the lounge was constantly cold. Sat with blankets around us. There was no hot water and the shower head needed descaling. No toilet roll. Luckily in time to buy some from the store.

MargaretVrboJan 2026

Clean and tidy nicely decorated with comfy beds. Well equipped kitchen. Amazing location near to the beach just wild and beautiful. There is an open fire but no fuel provided, we would have paid extra to have that in place on arrival. Heating is easy to work and made our stay cosy. Would recommend and would visit again.

A short break by the sea Positive: A great location, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen well equipped and very clean Negative: I put Parking in the search, I think a bit of elasticity was used in the description as the parking is nearly half a mile away up a very steep hill, the compensation is that parking is free in November,

FrancescaBooking.comOct 2025

Very dirty shower and floors, such a shame as looked perfect from listing Positive: The information received before we stayed was good so we knew where it was and how to get in. The beds were comfy and the only room that was on the cold side was the sitting room The kitchen was nice and well equipped apart from a dirty oven and the freezer box (tiny one in the fridge) needed to be defrosted for it to be shut. The decor is nicely done and although no sea view the location is nice and very cute Negative: It was filthy! Despite contacting host and stay when we arrived and requesting the black mould and filth be cleaned in the shower nothing happened and I had to go and buy cleaning products to clean it myself before it could be used and the shower pressure was a trickle! Coffee machine present but no coffee pods No wood or coal to even light one fire 1 loo roll left for 4 people for 3 days Black rising damp in the sitting room Carpets were filthy Mildue stained sheets on one bed I paid more money to book with a company thinking it would have better standards but was bitterly disappointed.

MegBooking.comOct 2025

Great location, shame about the drains being blocked. The heaters were also insufficient. Positive: Great location. Negative: The shower and sink in the bathroom were blocked and smelt. This meant that the person who showered second had to stand in the dirty, cold water of the person who had showered before. The water flooded most of the room. It meant that when we needed to use the loo later we got wet feet from cold dirty water. The shower tiles were also quite mouldy.

The second time we have stayed in this cottage. Communication is excellent, immaculate inside, superb location, hopefully will return again soon Highly recommend

GuestAirbnbSep 2025

We really enjoyed our stay at Gun Gutter House. It’s perfectly situated in Staithes for a peaceful getaway, but only metres from the harbour and local pub! The experience was let down slightly by issues with drainage in the bathroom, and a strange last minute request to pay for (optional) damage insurance which we found to be unusual and little bit cheeky. The house itself was really cosy, tastefully decorated, and well equipped. The hosts were responsive and communication from them was good meaning arrival was easy and stress free. Thanks!

JamesBooking.comSep 2025

Great Positive: Location, decor, comfort Negative: Shower took a while to drain. As it's a wet room the toilet was inaccessible for 30 mins after. Might need a rod! Thanks :-)

EmmaBooking.comSep 2025

Really lovely few days away with my so . Would certainly go back to the same cottage. Positive: Great location in beautiful Staithes. A proper little fisherman’s cottage. Stylishly decorated, clean and cosy. Negative: The curtains and blinds would benefit from a wash, as they have some mould on them, and will probably help with the damp smell (inevitable in an old, dark cottage but a wash would help with this).

GuestAirbnbAug 2025

Staithes is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Small but enough to do and see there and nearby. You’ll see from reviews that the place is small but don’t let that put you off - all the places in Staithes are small as it is a very old fishing village so is all part of its charm. We prebooked the parking at Glendale just in case but it would have been alright to park in the public car park and save a few quid day. Was sunny and therefore pretty busy but that didn’t detract from enjoyment. We drove there from a stop over at Castle Howard and the drive to Staithes from there over the moors was beautiful too.

GuestAirbnbAug 2025

GuestAirbnbJul 2025

GuestAirbnbJul 2025

Be prepared for a long walk up a steep hill to your car very expensive car park no grocery shop within walking distance take everything with you. People constantly walking by window. House could have done with a good clean. Nice pub nearby with good food but expensive beer.

GuestAirbnbJul 2025

Perfect little bolt hole. 30 second walk to the Cod & Lobster!

SteveVrboJun 2025

Great base to explore from The cottage is in a fantastic location in the heart of Staithes. It’s literally 20 seconds walk to the harbour. Being so close to the harbour it was easy to park there and get everything into the cottage without a problem. Staithes is quirky, you should read up about it before deciding to stay there. This isn’t an issue with the property but could detract from your stay if you were unaware of it. The spec of the property is excellent and never once felt like it was missing something. It’s finished to a high standard. We got to watch the sunrise in the summer solstice from the harbour ( and the sunset a few hours earlier). This will be a break that we won’t forget for all the right reasons.

Nice little cottage but with some improvements it could be fabulous Positive: Cute traditional fisherman's cottage. Nicely decorated throughout, particularly the kitchen, which was also really well equipped. Great location. Negative: The house was heated with electric heaters. When we arrived the house was freezing and the heaters didn't really heat it up adequately. We ended up buying logs to make a fire. The shower room was also freezing and the electric shower was very weak so you couldn't warm up in the shower. The pillows on the beds were really lumpy and uncomfortable. The little yard at the back was not very well maintained, with lots of rubbish in it that had blown in off the street. With some updates and changes this could be a fab little cottage to stay in.

This is a lovely cottage in the centre of Staithes. There was no hot water or heating on when we arrived and the cottage took a long time to heat up meaning the first night and following morning were a bit cold which was a shame.

GuestAirbnbMar 2025

Such a lovely cosy place, absolutely spot on communication, in a fabulous location! I will be back!!

GuestAirbnbMar 2025

The house was really pretty and the location was really good for what we wanted. The listing stated free parking, there isn’t any. I messaged and was told to use paid parking, something we had not expected to have to paid for and therefore was disappointed. The house was generally clean, however there were quite a few cobwebs. One of the towels had a mark on it. We didn’t stay at the house for a huge amount of the time as we were out and about. We did enjoy staying there and with a few touches could be amazing.

Relaxing break in a lovely location. Positive: Location was excellent, was fitted out to a good standard, lovely and clean. WiFi was good. Negative: The radiator in the living room, didn’t provide enough heat, which meant we had to use the fire. There was a small amount of coal, but not enough for the 2 days we were there, which resulted in us purchasing fuel from the local convenience store. It might be pertinent to make guests aware to purchase coal if staying in the winter.

Everything you expect for Staithes Positive: Was bang next to the harbour.could sit in the kitchen to eat. Well equipped kitchen. Shower spacious. Negative: Not enough instructions on how to use things. No contact number for host to ask them about any how to use cooker. Towel rack was heatjbf for bathroom and it was so hot it burned you to touch it. What really disliked was Host and stays compulsory large deposit for damage which they held for 2 weeks then automatically took 11 pounds off or to take their insurance for 25. This to me is unfair terms and would not use them again. When booking through you I thought would be using your terms and conditions. Would like to be treated as a complaint.

GuestAirbnbMay 2024

Not the best Air BnB we’ve ever stayed in- house felt quite unloved and not homely at all which was a shame. Needs some TLC- lots of stains on walls, stain on blankets, dusty, holes that need filling in bathroom, missing pieces in all games. It was cold on arrival and no firewood available to start a fire, all local shops shut so unable to buy any, would have been nice for a few to be left or heating to be set to come on for arrival- this would be easy as it had smart thermostat. Loud noise started between 7:30-8am over the weekend right outside due to fisherman fixing crab nets so no lay in unfortunately. It’s also the only place we have had to pay extra after booking for insurance so beware of this extra cost. Parking and dropping off bags was really difficult. Despite the above, it’s in a great location right near the beach and good pubs. Bed was super comfy and they left extras for us such as tea, coffee, milk and toiletries which was nice. All in all probably wouldn’t recommend.

Charming cottage in great location in Staithes. We had a lovely time although wouldn’t stat at another airB&B serviced by Host and Stay out of choice. Lack of instructions although paid an extra £25 (rather than a large deposit and £10 admin fee) for insurance as a hidden extra cost which I’ve not experienced before.

Great location in a beautiful village 25m from a pub! It's small but more than adequate for a few days stay. However the listing says there is free parking on premises. There isn't but there is parking close by for 40 minutes but you then need to park a 7/8 minute walk away up a steep hill. This is free in January and February though.

AndrewBooking.comNov 2023

A good stay at a nice cottage but far too many emails from host and stay. Negative: Nothing really for the host but we got hit with a £60 parking fine on our first night because we bought a ticket for the public car park and was fined because we were on the adjoining private one. In the dark and pouring rain the signs are not enough. We won't be returning to this place it made the whole trip a lot more expensive and left a sour note. A warning about this issue could be put in the cottage details. I'm sure we are not the first.

Nice stay in Staithes. Positive: Traditional Cottage in a good location. Comfortable bed, warm and good shower. Negative: The shower room tile grout is need of good clean. Damp in the shower room. Steep stairs. They charge an extra £10 for looking after your £250 deposit (Shocking). Which is not mentioned on Booking.com or you have to pay £25 damage waiver. £6 or £10 for 24 hours parking.

A weekend in Staithes Positive: Location is based next to the Cob & Lobster at the harbour. The 1 road/street is also close by, which offers the other places to drink or dine. It is a well maintained periodic house with all of todays facilities. Negative: The staircase carpet, which runs into both bedrooms is rather rough to walk on bare footed. Also the shower part of the downstairs toilet needs re-grouting.

GuestAirbnbSep 2023

A compact and nicely renovated cottage, good shower in wet room, good kitchen diner, cosy sitting room, comfortable double bed. This cottage is situated behind Cod and Lobster in a shared passageway, you can park nearby for dropping off luggage. No parking nearby, car parks at top of village. We have been coming to Staithes for several years and love the village.
