Hi, I’d just like to say thank you. My wife and I really enjoyed our weekend away, and it made our first visit to Beamish feel even more realistic. I would definitely recommend anyone contemplating a visit to do so, and would highly recommend booking one of the cottages. Cheers, Charlie & Amy

This was such an amazing cottage - being in the heart of Beamish loving museum was a dream come true for my Wife! Having such a wonderful view to wake up to, and such clear dark area for stargazing was magic!

My partner and I had a fabulous stay at The Drovers Rest. We arrived at 4pm on Monday afternoon just as the place was beginning to close up for the day. As the accommodation was inside the gates of Beamish we had the freedom to walk around the different areas to familiarise ourselves with the places we most wanted to visit when everything opened up on the Tuesday. This felt very exciting and certainly added to the allure of the place. All the staff were amazing. Eric the Station Master was wonderful. Our only disappointment was the intermittent Wi-Fi and the television which wasn’t hooked up in the property. The whole area has poor reception so if you had any business to attend to during your stay you might be stuck. It didn’t affect us too much but it maybe something that Beamish could work on for families visiting for the future.

I'm unsure whether any of my points will be taken up. Both of us are in our early seventies, not the level of fitness or stability of a 30 year old! BATHROOM: No anti slip mat in bath No grab handle over bath/shower for older people to use - a bit on the dangerous side imho The shower curtain tricky to close, ie to prevent water on floor No Hairdryer - my wife certainly welcomes the use of one, to be told by AirBnB that we should go to main reception in a museum to see if they would lend us one was not especially helpful The mirror in the bathroom was very small and mounted very low, so if you are over about 5'6" you have a problem GENERAL The lighting, esp upstairs was very dim, I'm not looking for super bright LED's, my question is, has ANYONE from AirBnB tested the place out? Not very warm on arrival Difficulty in actually speaking to someone at AirBnB - pick up the phone NOT via email Following up for feedback went on and on, you (AirBnB) might want to think of the recipient

Fantastic cottage equipped with all we needed, very clean and comfortable easy check in but check out was stressful as the key safe wouldn't open. The location was beautiful with fantastic views and a lovely seat and bench to sit on, my only issue was we didnt realise how hard it was to access without a car and a wheelchair in tow .....also as we didnt have a car we had to keep our suitcase with us after checking out at 10 am and wanting to spend the day in Beamish. Would certainly recommend a stay here as long as you have your own transport to get to there. The cottage was a fabulous experience. Ps any clues as to why my daughter and I woke up just after one am with the bed shaking was it a ghost 👻 or an earthquake . thanks for a lovely comfortable stay and organising such lovely weather 😊

Beautiful place to stay right in the heart of Beamish museum

AirbnbDec 2025

If you enjoy Beamish museum you will love staying here, beat the queues for an early start!

AirbnbDec 2025

The property is well located for easy access into the Beamish museum, and is very quiet and tranquil. The Beamish museum is a fantastic place to visit, and their staff are great. Bed comfortable, place was clean. However, we suggest some improvements. The toiletries supplied are inadequate. More towels are needed. Seating needs another comfortable armchair. The bath needs a nonslip mat. The shower curtains are ineffective. The lighting is dim and needs a couple of lamps. Our big issue though is how the failure of the electric supply, caused by using the oven and kettle at the same time, was handled. We were without power from reporting it to Home Stay at 6pm to 8:30am the next day. The resolution, by the Beamish team, was a simple reset that Home Stay ought to have known about.. Could have been fixed in mins. Raising a complaint with Home Stay met with a response of “not our problem”, no compensation for our spoiled first night, just a future discount. Disappointing

Wonderful stay!

What a beautiful place to stay at Beamish. The place was comfortable, the view was pretty, and the fact that you were already at Beamish was great. We would stay there again. If you don't have a car it makes it a little tough coming and going from the property after closing, but it's doable. Overall really great stay and highly recommend.

Amazing location, right next to Pockerly hall, 3 min walk to the tram stop. Beautiful cottage, just the right mix of old decor and furniture with modern comforts. Very comfortable bed. The cooking equipment in the small kitchen was a bit sparse, all the lights are quite dim - great for atmosphere, not very good for reading! (A lamp would have been useful.) A map of beamish in the cottage would have been helpful. Once you get through the main entrance there's no signpost to the accommodation so it's not clear which way to go. But these small negatives don't outweigh the positives - overall it was a brilliant experience.

The location, within the Beamish Open Air Museum was idyllic, but arrival instructions were sparse, resulting in some confusion, when confronted with a roped off Level 7 Car Park! The Map, issued to Museum Visitors, should have been available, in the Cottage, as it was difficult to get your bearings without it, when venturing on to the site. More information on how to exit the site, during our stay, for example, for an evening meal, would have been very helpful. We appreciated being able to leave our car parked at the cottage, after checking out, at 10am, to give us time for another walk around the site, before we left at Noon, but there appeared to be no information in this regard available.

Enjoyed the convenience of staying within the grounds of the museum & seeing the recent expansion of the fifties area. Was an easy check in & out. The Host & Stay staff were very responsive during the booking of the property. All in all a good stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Drover’s cottage and Beamish. The cottage and setting are lovely and perfect for stepping right in to Beamish. Already we are singing its praises with family, friends and anyone who will listen! We do have a couple of constructive comments: - On arrival at Beamish you need to turn immediately right in to Row 7 and drop a rope blocking the way. You then drive along bumpy roads/paths, for almost a mile, following green signs for Guest Accommodation - A lid is needed for the kitchen bin. - Instructions for heating controls would have been useful. - An extra armchair in the living room as the sofa is very cosy for two, regardless of your size! Having said the above we would love to return.

Fantastic location, felt very peaceful and great for star gazing , good dark skies location. Thoughtfully designed. TV was temperamental due to signal buffering but it was a good location for switching off and reading or just appreciating the surroundings.

Really enjoyed our ‘unique’ stay at the Drover’s Cottage. Felt special to be staying within the Beamish museum grounds. Suggestions for hosts; put private signage on gate, we had visitors from the museum wandering around the garden; remove the TV it doesn’t work and looking at previous reviews it’s never worked. Again agree with previous comments about dim lighting however gaps in bedroom floorboards mean that it’s never pitch black. Excellent communication with hosts as were instructions for access. Take provisions if you don’t want to venture out in the evening. We can recommend Black Horse and The Stables and of course the fish shop in the pit village. We would recommend and would stay again but probably in Potters as bathroom upstairs. Thank you for memorable staycation Host and Stay.

Cottage was lovely, but no broadband which meant no television. The property wasn’t as advertised and as such I would like an appropriate reimbursement- say £20 per night for the lack of advertised amenity

Excellent, close proximity to the museum and how much fun so roam around when all the visitors have gone Positive: The property was superb, giving the experience of living in a time gone by, a very spacious property, the kitchen was well catered for with every cooking implement you could possibly need. Negative: A little dark inside, as I’m in my 60’s my eyesight is not that good so brighter lightbulbs would have been more ideal.

Being able to stay inside Beamish Open Air Museum was fabulous. it was like belonging. We walked around the Georgian landscape in the evening and watched Beamish main street wake up in the morning. The cottage is beautiful, simply and tastefully decorated and furnished in keeping with the Georgians. It had a comfy bed and was absolutely spotlessly clean, with a big garden outside. It's In a secret spot but close to everything too and so well thought out. We loved it and hope to come again, we had the very best time.

Lovely themed cottage, pristine. Very quiet private area. Beautiful cottage only down side was no TV access and the lighting is dim and areas. Also, if you if are tall it's very easy to constantly hit your head on the lantern lighting. Easy and quick access the the museum with private parking next to the cottages.

Absolutely beautiful! Will certainly go again Positive: Loved how easy it was to get into beamish! The view from the cottage was stunning! So peaceful , even when the museum was open! Need to advertise tbem mor nothing on tbe website about the cottages!! At night it was unbelievable to think we were in tbe grounds of a living history museum!! Negative: Nothing!! Except we couldn’t get the tv working!! If we’d have stayed any longer we’d have emailed tbe host!

cottage had no heating , no hot water and no tv signal Positive: location was good... Negative: facilities could have been much better

We had a lovely stay at Drovers cottage. It's situated in the 1820s area of Beamish and is incredibly peaceful, especially in the evenings and early morning. Having access to Beamish was fab. Once the museum is closed, you are politely asked to remain in the Georgian area (1820s), only. This was fine for us, but you only get full access to Beamish during opening hours. The cottage had everything we needed, a well equipped kitchen, nice bathroom (with excellent water pressure) and all very in keeping with the Georgian period. A really lovely stay and we would happily return!

What an absolute delightful experience! Staying in a 19th century cottage right in the heart of Beamish museum was so enjoyable. The interior is so inviting, great furniture and layout complemented by a brilliant kitchen and lovely bathroom. Upstairs, the very large bedroom is such a pleasant surprise, very spacious and the bed is so comfortable you are guaranteed a good night sleep. Perfect location to visit Beamish Museum.

AirbnbApr 2025

The Drovers Rest was well equipped and set in a wonderful location within Beamish Museum. Being able to explore the museum at your leisure both during open hours and after was a real treat. Whilst there are limited options for eating during open hours, once it closed, you need to leave the grounds to find anywhere to eat. We recommend the Stables at Beamish Hall, a short drive away. Make sure you take food with you, especially Coffee for the cafetiere. Once you enter Beamish Museum the Accommodation is well signposted from the top of the car parks. Mobile phone coverage is patchy but wifi coverage both within the cottage and the museum is good.
