“If you are visiting Beamish this is a great place to stay. Atmospheric cottage, true to the 1820s but with everything we expect today, eg microwave but hidden in kitchen cupboard. Wonderful bath! Easy access to the museum from the garden so felt we were ahead of the queue in the morning.”

“Drover’s Rest is a beautiful cottage in its own right, but being able to step out of the gate and straight into the immersive world of Beamish gives it a particular magic. It’s furnished thoughtfully to reflect its setting in the Georgian farm recreation, but with more hot water, central heating and cooking facilities than the original residents would have enjoyed! The location is extremely peaceful, with beautiful views and starry skies - we encountered red deer on our way back one night. We absolutely loved our stay in 1820, and will definitely return - I hope the museum extends its accommodation to the 1900s and 1950s areas too.”

“We had a wonderful stay at Drovers Rest Cottage at Beamish. Despite reading some previous reviews about the cottage being difficult to find, we actually found it very easy to locate thanks to the clear signposts. There is a gravel track leading up to the cottage, but no problem if you’re in a 4x4. The cottage itself is beautiful, full of character and charm, with lovely antique furniture throughout. The views are absolutely amazing and really add to the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. It feels like a special place to stay and is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. One small point is that the bedroom was quite dark at night due to the dim lighting, but this really wasn't a problem for us and certainly didn't affect our stay. One of the real highlights for us was having access to Beamish Museum. Being able to visit the museum so easily and enjoy it at your own pace is a real treat and made the stay feel extra special. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Drovers Rest!”
